One thing scoops of ice cream and guitar pickups have in common; a double is better than single, and a triple better than a double. Really outstanding sounding system and great demonstration of it Aaron!
Love these guitars. But the placement of the preamp seems like it would be right where my arm would want to be? Of coarse I’ll never have to worry about that since I’ll never probably be able to afford to buy one.
Great review as usual. The thing I did not like on the original 3 way system was the lacking of top end and attack of the internal microphone. The "new" preamp sound is way better to my ears, but I still prefer the AP5 PRO feel.
I like the AP5 pro sound in regards to how natural it is but I prefer the feel of the PG3 because of that face sensor. It adds so much power and immediacy.
Truly a perfect sounding system. The new version also sounds better and more balanced to me. Many thanks for your great reviews. I have one more question. Do you actually use a compressor on your floorboard with a harder attack (or in general)? Thanks and regards Patrick
That’s great Aaron, I have the thinline with humbucker on the way after true hybrid didn’t suit me. So you prefer this as a live gigging guitar to a Martin fitted with an anthem ? High praise indeed? Looking forward to plugging the thinline in 👍
Cole Clark is the one guitar I’ve never tried. Sounds and looks great! Thanks for the in depth review. How is it for looping? Does it pick up the room noise at all? That’s obviously a big issue for me these days.
One of the best for looping. If you are in a noisy room you probably want to use a Soundhole cover as the system is very sensitive but that’s why I love it. I don’t have an issue with it. In fact sometimes I like hearing the ambient sound through it.
I have same guitar but sunburst coloring. I know what your saying about low end. The low end for me is the Low E string if I hit it by accident when strumming and on a chord that the Low E is open that Low E really takes off and very pronounced. So need to use my high pass filter on my Boss AD-10.
Interesting. I used one of these for about 6 months and enjoyed the strumming sound. Over time I found I couldn’t play lead lines with enough body/mid range to give me the note articulation I prefer. Love the guitar, love the pickup but I’ve moved on for the time being. It’s a very clever pickup and guitar design.
I’ve got the latest one. I found the previous version a little scratchy in the tops. This new version is the best strumming sound of any pickup I’ve heard. I’m playing with an excellent guitarist/saxophonist/mandolin/instrumentalist. I needed a slightly more ‘honky’ mid range articulation to differentiate between the two guitars. I’m currently using an Eastman L-00 style guitar with an Anthem and an LR Baggs Para EQ. After your review, I’ll go back and give the CC another run. Great guitar and pickup combo!! I often listen to your reviews when I’m looking for something new. Thanks for all your effort.
I did agree but not anymore. The guitars all have slightly different voices as the pickup is so responsive. My latest guitar only needs a HPF at 80hz where the previous one was at 120hz. I think it’s best to do it at the mixer depending on the guitar.
Hei! I have a question :) if i use this pickup pg3 do you think i need guitar pedals like Tc helicon bodyrez and Nux Optime Air?? Because i have this pedals. Thanks in advance like ur channel :)
@@aaronshortmusic oh, haha thank you. There is a pawn store in Sydney, were their aren't many musicians, and lots of fairly well off people, most of whom took up hobbies during the covid lockdown, and don't know what they got into. Guitarists don't go into pawn stores that much any more it seems, only marketplace, but marketplace has become the most expensive place now because everyone looks and sells at a premium there now. This store has Taylor's, Gibson's, Gretch's, a custom shop Telecaster etc. 2 rows of mint condition guitars and basses. This was basically new, it literally hadn't even been set up yet, for $1200 aud, with the case and extras inside. I own a 2nd hand store that buys records and books, Many well off people couldn't be bothered listing something and taking questions, they just want stuff gone. It's like taking stuff to the tip, but you get a little bit of cash, to them. I'm a happy boy.
No , angel 3 much better... its my work horse and the humbucker on the hybrid even better, then the fat lady from the brad and adam era fat lady 2 series ...fuck me even better!! how do i know?.. i have them all so your comments here dont warrant that much and here i am hoping this is not a paid review? early guitar are just that better
I have owned an Angel 2, 3, humbucker, hybrid and FL2. Anyway it doesn’t matter what my preference is since we all like different things. You don’t need to be disrespectful.
Best sounding pickup I've ever heard. Great demonstration.
Thank you. It’s excellent!

I agree and when you build a pickup system INTO a guitar you get an ice cream sundae with cream and sprinkles on top! I’m off to the gym…
Such great guitars. Excellent review of the new pick up.
Thank you!
Thanks for the explanations! I really like the new sound in direct comparison to the previous version. Seriously considering getting me a Cole Clark

Not at all it’s on the top of the guitar and if you look on the used market you can find these for very reasonable prices.
Very informative, thanks! How do you like the acoustic sound of the guitar?
It’s good but not my favorite of all my acoustic guitars.

I have compression on the VL3x but it’s barely doing anything.
Thanks for the review, very helpful. Curious as to what kind of wood your guitar is constructed from?
All Blackwood
Lovely
Great guitars!

They are both excellent but this has been suiting me better.
What do you think of the Thinline? I loved the look and tones on the True Hybrid on there videos.
@@im58woody The thinline is cool but it has a thinner neck. I prefer the Angel myself for solo acoustic shows.
I actually might slightly prefer the sound of the pickup system on this guitar to the way it sounds on the external mic.
I was thinking the same…

Can you buy it and retro fit?
Great review as always!
You cannot install the PG3 in another brand of guitar or at least I wouldn’t be the one to try it lol!
@@aaronshortmusic
Ah ok - stick with the Anthem then!
@@SteveSingerFowkes The Anthem SL is an amazing aftermarket option but the Cole Clark is a complete package for me.

CC should have always had a HPF switch around 90hz.

Not really. It sounds great with some simple EQ and a nice reverb!
Do you run this through the Gigmix?
No I run into the TC Helicon VL3x direct to PA.
Just bought this guitar, woo hoo.
Congrats!

@@markeric1337 That’s great! The Cole Clark guitars are much cheaper in Australia than the USA because they are made in Australia.
Do u find cole Clark guitars are built pretty heavily? I really like the pick up sound here though
It’s no heavier than an equivalent Martin size.
