Yeah I have to agree with you on that, it pretty much contradicts the whole purpose of the x-ray ability if it only works in certain areas in specific spots.

Wow, I never even knew there was a second row of energy tanks above the first lot in the UI! God knows how I beat this game as a kid. I'm getting my ass handed to me by the quicksand in Maridia right now. My middle aged thumb can't take it, haha!

@@matthieumartelct After acquiring the speed booster you also get the ability to do these yellow boosts. It's an upgrade that you get which you don't know existed at first. You just need to run with the speed boosters on and when you turn blue press down on your controller. If you then press the jump button you do this yellow boost upwards. If timed correctly you can also do this in other directions. While pressing the jump button you can also press right or left for example you'll do a sideways yellow boost. The timing is kinda tricky though.
This mechanic is taught in an optional room near the start of Brinstar where you get the Super missiles. On the floor are some blocks that break when running with the speed boosters fast enough. Then you fall down and a birdlike alien teaches it to you by showing it themself. Hope this helps :)
Heh, my first time replaying this game in decades and the only Energy Tank I was missing was #5 that is hidden up on the ceiling. Thanks to your video I was able to find it again.
That's an interesting one to miss. Ever play the originsl 8 bit Metroid? That tank is in the same place.

At 01:09 (tank #6), you jump the wall and shoot the button to open the door. I’m trying to replicate that but it’s not working. The shoot won’t get through the door to open it. What am I doing wrong?
You need wave beam
Such bs that door doesnt open on the legit cartridge.
You can hit it with whatever but it doesnt open.

Funny my first time playing I only missed one energy tank (the one in crateria where you start). Then on my second playthrough i found that but i missed the one on brinstar that you shoot up at the ceiling next to a morph ball tunnel
I can't get out of the room with reserve tank 2 in it! I'm stuck and I've tried shooting everything and setting bombs everywhere.
shoot up as soons as you leave the room containing the reserve tank 2, in the ceiling there is a breakable block.

You know what really sucks about Super Metroid?? that when you are done there is nothing like it before or since so your basically screwed,best game ever made,played it when it came out and play it ever few months or so, dont get me wrong, there are other great games out there but nothing like this one.

its in quicksand, the quicksand that takes you to that specific room is in the large room filled with those black snail thingys.
I cant find my way to the area at 5:19 for Reserve # 4.. I've looked everywhere and dont see how to get to it

I think you can only get the wave beam after your Metroid "pet" saves you and gives you all its energy. Then you cant double back but go foward and continue fighting Mother Brain and continue going foward

i just cant do the 4:38... i always hit the ceeling before the spikes, i tried every pixel... my rom is corrupted?
That's weird. It's the very last spot to the right you can possibly stand on so you shouldn't hit the ceiling. By the sounds of it you got the shinespark feature from the speed booster down pat? Try going into that a little bit earlier and then walk as far right as possible before going up? 😣

Holy shit. I actually managed to get all of these on my first playthrough without a guide. Came here to make sure there wasn't some sort of secret 3rd row of energy tanks I was unaware of.
After stumbling across the one at 0:55 I was almost positive I had missed some.
But how did u get charged on the jump for the reserve tank on wreck ship? I have the run booster.
do a super bomb in the gravity suit area. Do it outside the room you get the suit. Then if you dont know how to charge. Be sure to start running until you turn purple. Then press down. Now go to the end of the hallway and press up and B (Or try A if B doesn't work)

You need Gravity Suit
You actually dont need the gravity suit, do speed booster on the upper part without water, then shinespark through the wall and that is it.

Maradia. I believe in the room after beating that worm mini boss. Could be wrong but it's a huge room with purple metal pipes.
The big room with the grappling hook blocks along the walls or what I would call purple pipes where you have enough room to do a speed booster after super bombing down through the floor...underneath the purple pipe floor you can see 2 large quicksand pits underneath in which you can sink down into. These are 2 different paths to where you need to get to
They both take you through a room full of quicksand that forces you to sink down. Once you get all the way down you get dropped into another room. That's where you find the reserve tank along with a few other items. You can only do 1 path at a time. You'll have to backtrack to that purple pipe room again to do the other path when you get back there. Both rooms look similar.
None of the items are hidden inside the walls so no worries there. Just don't miss any otherwise it's a big waste of time having to backtrack again
I just finished the game. And let me tell you... It was complete... Hell! The hard thing is that I have to collect all of the items, and plus, I used my ZNES Emulator, so yeah. However, it was fun to play that game. X3

civilwildman If you go to the top of the other side of the room you can get across with the grapple beam as well
For energy tank 12 you can actually start from the other side after speed boosting. There is one route in there that will make you fall into the sand but you can jump before that one part onto a different route and it will lead you right to the energy tank
Yes, but the way it's done in this video is SO much easier. I was having trouble figuring out where to jump. I was so mad when I saw you could just enter from the obvious side! 😂

I was missing 13. Check that one. If not. Check over ones you're positive that you got. If you're unsure. Go over all the spots.

that was my 13th. I was missing the one in lower norfair right before ridley behind that green monster and has the bugs that give light.

Hi im a bit late to comment but I just wanted to say thanks for this video and all the others, me and my dad have been playing this game on the original super Nintendo and its amazing, definitely better than today's games
I recently got interested in the Metroid series. I started playing Super Metroid for the first time last Thursday. It is my first Metroid game, and I love it. I always look forward to playing it when I wake up in the morning. I will definitely be buying all the other Metroid games!

Thanks for sharing. This is one of my favorite games. It came out when I was at college. I remember that I wrote a letter to Nintendo Power Magazine to ask about the tank locations. There was not internet so it was hard to find any information or guide of the video games.

I remember getting lost for hours and hours in Maradia just exploring. Then my mind was absolutely blown when I finally figured out how to not only get to the end of the game. Still one of the most epic endings I've ever seen
I missed E-tank #5 and reserve tank #1, but I found every other tank without help, so I would say I did pretty well considering it was muy first time playing súper metroid :).

I think the reserve tanks are pointless. It's no different than having an extra energy tank.
Mrpastry909 Though I generally agree, they can end up saving your life in the second phase of the Mother Brain fight. If you take too much damage and fall below three Energy tanks worth of health, MB's beam will end up killing you if you don't have at least one full Reserve Tank.

Ya it's a bit of a pain in the butt sometimes. Wall jumping off the left hand side like he did in this video is best so you can get yourself up to the ledge up high. Usually I use the shell of the dumb turtle monster on the ground and fail lots lol.
After that it's fairly easy to jump off the ledge to the right and grapple beam onto the block. Then just don't fall lol. I like to fully extend when I'm spinning so I can fling myself up in a slow manner and then fall onto the energy tank

It's the room where the chozo statue drops you, just before the gravity suit room. Use a power bomb near the chozo statue and you will find it.

Tank 6 impossible to get
Yea wall jump is your friend. I recommend mastering it. Makes the game much much easier. Then it's wave beam to shoot through the metal gate to hit the blue switch
There's also another way to get up there without using wall jump which I never use personally. Where the spikes are on the ground next to the wall...bomb the ground above to expose the spikes, then lay a bomb on the right most spike (you'll have to take damage obviously) and a metal platform should start to rise from there to which you can ride up to put yourself in range to shoot the gate and jump up

I honestly had no idea the spring ball was a thing.
