Michael is a masterclass - first embarrassing his dad by long ovation and lastly with genuine kiss, you can see proud Kirk there and great relationship between those two
Check out Burt and Kirk's other Oscar appearance together in 1959. This clip shows their first in 1958. In '59 they do acrobatic feats! I only came across it searching William Holden, who opens the show with John Wayne.
Douglas and Lancaster both look great here; this was done before both men had an onslaught of health problems: Douglas suffered a well publicized stroke that affected his speech and Lancaster also had a debilitating stroke around 1990 that caused him to withdraw from public life.
With the exhibition of their musical number from the late '50's Oscar telecast, this is actually quite elegant. The idea that the "Amadeus" screenplay beat out "Killing Fields," (a great film among a field of great films) among others, gives me hope that Mankind understands that Atrocious Genocide is negative, and the Arts, which help us to understand the Enigmas of Life, are positive.
Young kirk Douglas looks kinda like Jack palance ,makes sense both Russian origin. I feel jealous I wish i had that kind of relationship with my late father the way Michael Douglas has with his.
There was no competition whatsoever, Amadeus had one of the best, if not THE best screenplay of all time. Entertaining, intricate and overall masterful. Peter Shaffer being overlooked all the time annoys the living shit out of me.

Two of the greatest Hollywood legends
Plus Michael Douglas
I'm a new fan of Burt Lancaster. Truly a great Hollywood legend. Great actor!
what love between father and son! beautiful
The word legend is used for everyone these days but these two guys are simply legends rip Kirk and Burt 🙏
I'm 55 now and remember this kirk and Burt scene, it's always stayed with me, seeing now just great.
It made me so happy that the one nomination Splash got was for Best Original Screenplay. They respected one of my favorite movies from childhood
Watching TRAPEZE with Burt Lancaster is awesome

Burt 'I don't know why I'm laughing Lancaster' and his 'leetle' friend Kirk Douglas two giants of the silver screen who will never be forgotten
I love Burt's laugh!
We will never see their likes again.
Yr so right there, legends they was.
Places in the Heart and Amadeus both had great screenplay. Michael douglas was the only actor in the Douglas family to win oscars and an Emmy Award.

MrImiller07 because lanchaster smoked 2 packs a day since he was a teenager and kirk also smoked but quit in the 1970s
Both top actors,

Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas. Gosh, those names together and in that billing order are symbols of a generally classic movie. God bless them.
Co-hosted by Michael Douglas. : )
Amadeus is one of the most touching historical dramas I ever watched.
Geez, who did you have to be to get a standing ovation at the Oscars back then? Nothing but polite applause for Kirk and Burt?
Young kirk Douglas looks kinda like Jack palance ,makes sense both Russian origin. I feel jealous I wish i had that kind of relationship with my late father the way Michael Douglas has with his.

But he won. His brother Anthony was another fine writer.
Two all time greatest ever 7
tough guys!
Que leyendas
R.I.P. Sir Peter.
Amadeus is awesome.
They all see to comment on Burt and Kirk below instead of the nominations and winners!
bad year at the Oscars when "Beverly Hills Cop" gets a screenplay nomination
Gene Siskel chose that nomination as the worst of that year on his If We Picked the Winners special of Siskel and Ebert.
That's the only nomination in the best original screenplay category which the writers
of "Beverly Hills Cop" ever got for a long time.
gunfight at the o.k.corral.
i love. burty
For Original Screenplay the list should have been:
Beverly Hills Cop
Places in the Heart
Broadway Danny Rose
Splash
Ghostbusters
3:46 Academy official looking pissed that he had landed the "backstage hand off the Oscar role" that year.
LOVE
KIRK IS ON STILTS
What's the musical background to Benton's win? It's famous but i can't remember the title!!
This is a very late reply, but the song is La Golondrina.
2:11
I seriously do not think that Beverly Hills Cop deserved to be nominated to Best Original Screenplay. It was good, yes, but not Oscar-worthy
even michael bills burt before kirk.
Splash and The killing fields should have won, they were better than Places in the heart and Amadeus
none of those films was better than amadeus.
It broke my heart when Kirk said: "who were those kids?"
