      +Adrian Larkins its really really not. ebay has one for $60 and 2 more for $120 right now, just checked.

    • @asadb1990
      @asadb1990 8 років тому +8

      +Adrian Larkins not really as anyone who wants it can easily torrent it. I just did a few min ago. But to be honest, the truly valuable comics need to be in perfect condition, in original wrapping and needs to be in very limited supply. For example, a superman comic which was only given to like 50 people (say the movie staff and some of the financiers of the movie) at a special superman movie (first one) event would be worth millions but only if it was in perfect unopened condition. Because man made stuff is worth a lot more if it is kept in perfect condition. Now if an ancient artifact comes in then one can expect some defects and scuffs.

    • @asadb1990
      @asadb1990 8 років тому +4

      buster20010 well to be honest Johnny lowballs every customer. My guess is he relies on the consultation fee from the shop more than the revenue from his own shop. I have seen many times he lowballs rare toys in like mint condition. Often times, he quotes at half the retail price. In my opinion he is a fraud. And with most toys, one can easily sell them on ebay for real cheap.

    This was a book that I have no lie owned three different copies. I presently own one. Going to these pawn shop people with that book is just ,well,suspect in general. Might have been staged. But this book,albeit was a one shot story line money grab at the time was endearing ( to me at least especially as a kid)Ali and Superman in a GIANT sized book was Awesome. ALI WAS HUGE at the time.
    The story ,to me as a kid at the time was fun.
    But the book itself was fun due to the celebrities on the cover AND chart inside the cover telling you who they were by numbered identification. NOW ,the sad parts it's now May 1st 2022. Ali has been gone for quite some time, and, sadly,Neal Adams the legendary artist of this cover and many more covers and Batman stories ,died on April 28 ,2022 just a few days ago.
    I hope anyone seeing this will look him up and give more reverence to this book and his legacy. And it goes without saying, but I'll say anyway, Ali was the Greatest!Keep your comic books out of pawn shops read and enjoy them .

    note: that's not the first printing, it's the 'distributed to toy stores' reprint done by western/whitman publishers; note the DC logo is missing from the cover. :) the reprints - at the time - were known to be worth less (especially with Marvel's Star Wars comic reprints), but over time it would still be worth a lot. kids not into comic books would usually throw these away. and my own whitman copy is very dogeared. ;)

    135 LMFAO. That dude was probably punching himself in the ribs when he got home and saw just a Benjamin, Andrew Jackson, Hamilton, and Lincoln in his wallet..

    The “expert” didn’t notice it was published by Whitman, not DC, which lowers the value significantly.

    I have an original of this comic. I say "original" because I think this version is a re-run or 2nd printing or something on account of the "Whitman" brand stamped on the cover. Mine has "DC" on the cover, no Whitman. I do have a giant size poster of the cover that has "Whitman." But I'm pretty sure for the book itself Whitman was pressed after the original DC. I can't help but wonder if the "DC" version would be worth more.

    Things like comic books and baseball cards have very easy to check values. They make price guides for them that any pawn shop should have on hand instead of calling in a buddy to ask. But that doesn't make good television i guess.

    Why is the Whitman reprint worth so much? You can see where the DC logo was covered over and the Whitman logo slapped over it. And to think I used to have 10 of these!

    Okay people, pay attention. at 0.20 you'll see "Whitman" logo over DC logo... this was NOT the original printed version. not sure how long it came out after original print run, but technically it's not the "first version"... shouldn't have gotten THAT much. sorry... and, John Wayne was the actor who wouldn't agree to his face being used.
