  • In this video we delve into the compelling arguments of the legendary Christopher Hitchens against religion. Unapologetically articulate, Hitchens takes us on a thought-provoking journey, challenging age-old beliefs and scrutinizing the foundations of faith.

It’s just not interesting. The default position is the default position and not only has religion not met it’s burden of proof, it also fails to present itself as a plausible hypothesis. Craig is much ado about nothing. Lennox is even more lost in his own presuppositions. It’s super dated stuff at this point.

      If you haven't already done so, do yourself the enormous favor of watching Christopher and Stephen Fry oppose the question "The Catholic Church is a Force for Good" in the youtube video which you can search for under that exact title. So the Bidens are the picture of morality. And joining nato,urging Ukraine to join as well so we can put weapons on Russia's borders, forcing them to react is cool, oh most Americans dont know that cause the major news spinned it another way, awesome? Big countries like them and us won't allow weapons on their borders. We was about to do the same thing over the Cuba missile crisis if they didn't stop. Oh, do you think out borders should be wide open for anyone to come in? Do you know the problems millions of illegal immigrants in all our states is causing? And the mind-boggling amounts of money we are spending just on these two issues I've raised? We're broke. If you think it's OK, just go to a major city and invite a bunch to your home and quit locking your doors. Would you do that? Well, that's what our country is doing. I don't like Trump either but he's is the best choice for the country, if you actually vote what's best for the country or do you vote for who you like better and screw the country. The hell with the country, I'd rather have someone that supports a pride parade down main st.😅

    Fear of death drives sane people to religion. Get over it and enjoy your life, and become a positivity

    • @jamieshannon9019
      @jamieshannon9019 2 місяці тому

      First of all, that's not your idea. That's a thought of freud. Secondly, people fear death, whether they're religious or not. But let me ask you this if people were gonna get together to create a religion to help them with their fear of death. Do you think they would add in the whole? You're gonna burn for returnity unless you do everything right? Probably not because that doesn't sound too comforting. I think atheist in their heart do believe but they've talked themselves out of it. Because it's a scary thought to know that what they do. Matters and that they might have to answer for something. And it also gives you a good justification to not have to do anything because Hey, nothing matters, if there's no higher mean or higher power. This is it than why not just do anything.. You seem to hold dear. Some of the early moral commandments from the bible like show that steel. And I doubt you're Jewish but. I guarantee if someone still something for you. You would have a reaction claim. It's a moral and not like it. 50 out your wife was having an affair. I bet you wouldn't like that either. Well, why is that? Why is that immoral? Were you getting this concept of moral at just your opinion? But yeah, every human being has that in them Stop eating such a simpleton and think about it longer than five minutes Because a lot of Christians are not scared to die at all. But many non-believers in atheists are scared today, which makes no sense. Because it doesn't matter, you just go away. You're gone so the rational logical thing to do would be just to end at all. Why not if the nothing matters. You can say you believe things like that. But that I guarantee you do not live your life like that. Guaranteed it, you get up. You have goals. You do things, why do you do that? When people say you have potential. What the hell is that mean? Is that some kind of physical material. People actually live a lot different than they say You just don't wanna be judged or ever told it something you're doing is wrong and nobody does. And I haven't even touched the design argument of the planet in people. It's so overwhelming to walk away after learning these things and thinking. There's no creator is either complete total ignorance. Or will for wilful blindness. There's not one thing in your life that you look at or you cannot tell. It was designed from your iPhone to t. V to your car to buildings. Anything. We take it for granted, but we don't need to meet designer. But we know it was designed and yet you look at the most complex thing that exists the human body the brain. The fact that we can reproduce. Make babies the planet is perfectly calibrated for life. You can believe all these things are accidents. If you want to, but that's actually mathematically impossible. So at that point it's more reasonable to believe that there was a creator than to not believe. There's way more evidence and at that point it's just denial. And by the way, you can stop making accusations about what this church or that church did because number one every single institution is corrupt. Some degree and number 2. You've probably never been in a church. Or entire life

      @jamieshannon9019 2 місяці тому

      Yeah, that's
      Freud idea Hypothesis, maybe some people, but that is not really true. Number one, if you're scared of death, why would you make up a religion? That's supposed to make you feel better about death while at the same time. If you don't do things right. You're gonna burn in-hell for eternity? That doesn't really seem to be something to make you feel better. Plus a lot of faith-based people are not even scared today. Anyways To say those beliefs are only based off. Fear of dying is way to simplistic. And just not true. However I do love freud

    I came to realise that a lot of people on the planet need religion because they lack the intellectual capacity to deal with life in another way. Thinking for yourself is no easy task and believing is so much easier.
    1) Some-thing can only come into existence out of a state of no-thing. Otherwise some-thing couldn’t be anything else than every-thing. The state of no-thing on the other hand has the potential to manifest every-thing. Therefore, some-thing and no-thing are of equal value. Not surprisingly the same result is obtained in mathematics but I prefer my own thought via a philosophical approach. Thinking for yourself has proven to be a great way to keep devils, angels, goblins, leprechauns and god(s) at a distance, but that aside.
    2) There are good reasons to compare the coming into existence of universes with something we all enjoyably know: ejaculations. Most spermatozoa are destined for the drain and only one amongst the million losses viable. We are living in one of the universes viable for life, probably amongst many failed or disabled universes; hence the absolutely not miraculous fine tuning of our cosmic surroundings. We’re lucky and we are translating our luck, a very common human characteristic, into pride, prejudice and the preposterous idea that a super being is overseeing each of us and sad or happy depending on the position of our hands above or below the sheets.
    3) So, the absolute beginning from the very first universe must have started from a very fine tilting point in a state where there was no difference between some- and no-thing. Quantum mechanics has learned us that energy can be borrowed for such a short time that the balance between the two states isn’t affected. Unimaginable stretches of time and evolution have done the rest in a trial, error and rarely, but in view of the incredible time lapses, unavoidable success way. We perceive the end result like a magic trick. Conclude that the pigeon out of the head is pure wizardry until the magician explains every step of the astonishing experience.
    4) if an all powerful god existed, why in the name of the one no one should believe in, would that being make the billion of years detour instead of just creating a made and ready universe? Unless you reject the fact, no, no longer the theory, but the fact of evolution. If that’s the case, then you are worshipping a god created or accepted out of pure and maybe even wilful ignorance.
    5) if god existed there would be no need to prove his existence because he / she / it would be perceived or at the very least be experienced by believers and non believers alike and since that’s clearly not the case it’s safe to say that god(s) are man made and not the other way around. That’s also why there are approximately, at present, 4.300 religions with matching super bff to suit different cultures, regions and tribes.
    6) Seneca, ancient Roman philosopher: ‘for common people religion is true, for wise men false and useful for rulers’.
    The story of Jesus, his miracles and resurrection
    Ask 1000 followers of Kenneth Copeland if he can heal the sick, paralysed and disabled. Well, you know the answer.
    Ask 1000 followers of Copeland if he could resurrect someone from the dead. You know the answer
    Ask 1000 followers of Copeland if they witnessed a resurrection performed by Copeland and at least 100 will testify on their life and the life of their children that they witnessed a resurrection done by one of the biggest spiritual con men in our day and age.
    Should give you some idea about the value of testimonials in Jesus time.
    People turn their wishes into beliefs and from that principle all religions are born.
    Let's also not forget that resurrections where far from exceptional in the days of the Jesus. I wouldn't go as far as to say: 'one resurrection a day kept the gravedigger away', but still.
    Jesus was a mediocre prophet and so delusional that he convinced himself to be the son of a non existing being. And it’s because of his mediocrity and the fact that his ‘teachings’ serve the rich, rulers and common people alike that he became so popular.

      @@AngelOrrandMoreI'm a Catholic my good brother. Jesus is the truth my friend. The one who conquered death. The Bible is clearly a holy and spiritual book that was giving to us by God. All the people who wrote it claimed to be divinely inspired and that one book is the most sold book in all of human history. That name Jesus stands above all names. And that book will be here until the very end. Us Catholics not only have a book from Heaven but we have supernatural miracles here on earth that not even NASA nor top Nobel piece prize winner in science could explain. Supernatural miracles that defy the laws of nature, of time and space. Miracles that should not exist yet they stand strong in beautiful Catholic churches all around the globe. Those miracles are not there to pursade the unbeliever. Because we understand to a non believer even if one were to rise from the dead he would not believe. Even if God himself appeared to you , the non believer would think it was a dream. Those supernatural miracles that science cannot explain are there to further strengthen the church and God's people to show us that the things of God are from another dimension and no scientist, scholar or laboratory can deny what we know to be true to the depth of our core. We all must face death and judgement for our sins. But on that day I will have the blood of Christ and Jesus by my side. Hope he has mercy on us all.

Also consult Numbers 31 where a whole tribe of people, including the elderly and children are slaughtered. The only survivors were the virginal women, who were later raped by the “just and perfect” Moses and his men. Is that what you want your children reading on Sunday?
      Biblical morality is pure horror, and if christians really followed all gods commands, we would need to build a lot more prisons.
      People were moral long before christianity was invented, and it will exist long after its gone.
      True morality comes from tht heart of each of us, no matter our belief or lack thereof. No matter our origin, our color or culture... Christians do not act from the heart, but from fear of punishment or groveling for favors and rewards.

    When I hear christians talk on some of the atheist shows I often think it would be advisable for the hosts to ask, do you want to believe what you believe? If the christian is being honest 99.9% would say yes. Wanting to believe something indicates a confirmation bias. Many atheists like myself grew up with religion and wanted to believe it but the facts got in the way of continuing that belief. Maybe some atheists have a confirmation bias against religion but I think atheists generally stand on much firmer ground in limiting confirmation bias compared to christians (and theists in general). In order for atheists to arrive at their position on god they had to be willing to be objective and skeptical--whereas the vast majority of christians can't be honestly skeptical of their religion.

    I typed the first part so you dont have to, here it is: "The catholic church holds ot better for the sun and moon to drop from heaven. For the earth to fail and for all the millions on it to die; in extremist agony... Than one soul, I will not say, will be lost, but should commit one denial sin, should tell one wilful untruth, or should steal one furthering without excuse." Enjoy!

      Show me the centaur worshipers threatening to overthrow democracy, or demanding that they be allowed to discriminate against LGBTQ people. If these arguments can help lead a single person to a life without (or at least less) bronze-age ignorance, more power to them.

    I know I am not going to live forever and neither are you, but until my furlough here on earth is revoked, I should like to elbow aside the established pieties and raise my tumbler 🥃 of Johnnie Walker Black high above my head in honor of the brilliance that was Christopher Hitchens, his legacy ensures his immortality, oh, how much I miss him.

    Scripture of the Day... *"GET WISDOM AT ANY COST"*
    Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction;
    pay attention and gain understanding.
    I give you sound learning,
    so do not forsake my teaching.
    For I too was a son to my father,
    still tender, and cherished by my mother.
    Then he taught me, and he said to me,
    “Take hold of my words with all your heart;
    keep my commands, and you will live.
    Get wisdom, get understanding;
    do not forget my words or turn away from them.
    Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you;
    love her, and she will watch over you.
    The beginning of wisdom is this: Get a wisdom.
    Though it cost all you have, get understanding.
    Cherish her, and she will exalt you;
    embrace her, and she will honor you.
    She will give you a garland to grace your head
    and present you with a glorious crown.”
    Proverbs 4:1-9

      *"UNWRITTEN"*
      I am unwritten, can't read my mind
      I'm undefined
      I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand
      Ending unplanned
      Staring at the blank page before you
      Open up the dirty window
      Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find
      Reaching for something in the distance
      So close you can almost taste it
      Release your inhibitions
      Feel the rain on your skin
      No one else can feel it for you
      Only you can let it in
      No one else, no one else
      Can speak the words on your lips
      Drench yourself in words unspoken
      Live your life with arms wide open
      Today is where your book begins
      The rest is still unwritten
      I break tradition, sometimes my tries
      Are outside the line
      We've been conditioned to not make mistakes
      But I can't live that way
      Staring at the blank page before you
      Open up the dirty window
      Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find
      Reaching for something in the distance
      So close you can almost taste it
      Release your inhibitions

    Religinuts claim, 'God created the first two people perfect.' However, perfection is, by definition, incorruptible. And that also takes free will into account... the perfect will ONLY make perfect choices.

    • @Doc-Holliday1851

      perfect does not mean incorruptible by definition. I've just looked it up in every major dictionary and found no instance of those two being related. You can make something perfect that is capable of being ruined. likewise you can make something (at least theoretically) that cannot be ruined which is imperfect.

      You're just playing with semantics to support your puerile beliefs. On the basis of LOGIC, that which is perfect is incorruptible. @@Doc-Holliday1851

    The Bible tells us we are born sinners (John 3.3) unless reborn again by the Spirit of God. It declares humanity is totally depraved; that is, all of us have a sinful nature that affects all parts of our being (Isaiah 53.6; Romans 7.14). The New Testament tells us only through rebirth will humans see the Kingdom of God. It further tells us through rebirth our past sins will be washed away and we will never sin again as we will be one of God. Now I have trouble with all this. Why does God allow babies full of sin to be born? God created the Devil and created all sin so why does s/he perpetuated it. And you can't tell me a Serial Killer who is reborn will never kill again. If you believe that then invite Chris Watts, or David Berkowitz, and or Jeffrey Dalmer over for dinner at your remote cabin in the woods.

    Religion (superstition, faith, ritual) offers the species another evolutionary advantage. Faith simplifies our lives by letting us not have to test reality constantly. Superstition and ritual do the same: If something works 2 or 3 times, it'll probably work in the future; so we should probably keep it up until it *doesn't* work any more. And religion itself can make life beautiful. Some of the greatest music, architecture, plastic art is religious.
    Who was it who spoke of a selfish gene? Well, I suspect there's also a religious gene.
