    Air Hogs brings back their 4ch helicopter, the Helix 360, this time redesigned and renamed Axis 400X. The Helix 360 is my favorite toy-grade helicopter, so I'm very excited to see them bring it back out as the Axis 400X. :)
    Enjoy!

    I'm glad they are improving with these toy grade RC helicopters. I remember back in 2008 or so, where you couldn't control where the helicopter went. So I used to add small weights on the front to make it go forward. Now I'm using hobby grade helicopters with collective pitch ranging from $200 to $400. I thank Airhogs for getting me started with this hobby.

    Ryan...this is my first helicopter. Never flew one before and I love it. Yeah, I crashed it a lot but it really is pretty easy to fly. You are so right about trying to fly it outside. It doesn't. thanks for the great video.

      Norfolk Southern GP38-2s Railfanning I'm not sure. Maybe it didn't sell well, or maybe they only manufactured a certain number, and when those sold out, they didn't make more.

    I bought a broken helix 360 online and removed the charging cable from the transmitter and made my own usb charging cable out of it back when I first owned one. I have since sold it but this video has made me want to purchase another used one off eBay if I can find a good deal on one. As you, I also learned 4 channel flying with it. Thanks for the review!

    IF THIS HELI BEHAVES ERRATICALLY AFTER CRASHING:
    This can, if you crash it hard enough, have its cyclic control stuck on full right, or full back (or, less likely, full forward or full left).
    The cyclic is not a proper swash plate but two U shaped bars operated by servos that alter the angle of the rotor disc by acting on a larger cylindrical drum that moves the rotor blades and flybar.
    .
    With big impacts, those U shaped bars can end up with one upright portion of the U stuck *inside* the 'sleeve' on the rotor assembly that they use to alter rotor angle. When this happens, the rotor will bind and 'click' over as you spin it. The heli will also fly full[whatever angle it's stuck on] after you take off. Don't panic, read on.
    To fix, disassemble the shell with an eyeglasses screwdriver, pry apart, and pry the upright 'leg' of the U outside of the rotor cyclic 'drum', then check for free rotation of the rotor without binding. Make sure it is still located on the peg protruding from the servo. Unsticking it from the drum can also have it popped off its servo peg/dowel.
    I have crashed this now so many times in 5 days [first rc helo ever, let alone 4 channel... that was maybe a bad idea] that i've removed the screws from the canopy shell so i can fix this condition quickly and just .... not bothered to put the screws back in. The canopy deforms easily enough to make this a 1 minute fix.

    Im coming from my ol Airhogs Reflex. I would like to have whatever is most similar to the Reflex cause that thing was awesome. Should i get a Axis 400x or 300x?? Thanks

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 років тому

      +Jake Tuohy Haha, the Reflex was my first 3ch helicopter! That was a weird little thing, and they've gotten much better since those days. The 300X is 3ch, so it would be similar to the reflex. The 400X is 4ch, so it would be a step up, and harder to fly, but faster and more fun, and would be good to learn if you want to continue on in the hobby. :)

    Picked up one after I saw your vid! I too had the helix. Got a question though. It rotates left all the time and requires at least 3 full turns to trim and hover correctly. Any suggestions on this?

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      Dave's Aquarium You might check the tail rotor for damage or warping, etc, or just replace it with the spare and see if that's any better. Otherwise, I wouldn't really worry about it… if you're able to trim it out, that should be fine.

      I hope there is because if you notice on the box each one has the amount of stars as the name implies. Ex: the 200x has 2 stars, the 300x has 3 stars and the 400x has 4 stars. So I'm hoping for the 5 star heli.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 років тому

      +Detectingthe North The sun emits infrared rays, so if you fly it in sunlight there is a good chance that the sunlight will take over control.

      @Xenro66 9 років тому

    you should design a small course for micro quads that is easy to build to the same measurements and start some kind of league where we can all build our own try to do it the fastest. like a 4x8 space with lots of obstacles and you have to have the quad pointed certain ways during it.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      Keury Ramos I don't recall for sure, but it's fairly common for stuff like that to occur with single-rotor helicopters, since they create torque in one direction, they tend to turn faster in that direction.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      kendall connolly It's all completely random... doesn't matter what store you order from... they all use the same shipping couriers. They basically just fill a shipping container until it's packed, and then ship it off, so it's random luck wether your order is one of the first or last placed in the container. Smaller orders tend to come faster, since I think they toss those into nearly-full shipping containers, whereas bigger shipments have to go into the emptier containers.

      K your opinion. I HAVE 2 air hogs heli's and both are twitchy and very squirrely including my axis 200 and ive kept them both . I think i just got a refurbished bad one from the mall. The gyro blade was just way to touchy and i never could get it to hover for more than 2 seconds without it making wide circles around the room. So take it for what it's worth, just me telling you not ro waist your money on one particular product.

      @theimacman  9 років тому

      Henry Matthews The Gyroblade is awesome and one of my favorite Air Hogs ever. You clearly got a bad one, and even said so, so there is no reason to tell people not to buy the product. The product itself is great... you just got a dud, and that can happen with all RCs. :)

    • @theimacman

      +Elephant123 You need to use the trim buttons to stop the spinning.

      +Elephant123 We have two of the Axis 200's. One spins wildly after a charge and needs and 15+ presses of the right trim button before it flys good. The other works pretty good with very little adjustments.

    how much money do you think they are actually saving by using infrared vs. 2.4ghz. I will never buy a infrared copter ever again, can't even truly take them outside

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      Raymond Dietz I've wondered that same thing. It's really time Air Hogs moves on to all 2.4ghz. I read countless reports of people buying their kids IR helis for Christmas, and the kid immediately took it outside and it flew away (because the sun was basically controlling it). Not only does IR limit our options, but there are clearly a lot of people out there that simply don't understand that you can't fly an IR heli in the sunlight. :/

      The V931 is likely the better perform. The V915 is pretty big, slow, and clumsy. It's fixed-pitch with a flybar, whereas the V931 is collective-pitch, flybarless, and smaller.

      mark sommer I just got the new Air Hogs Star Wars RCs, and they all have USB pass-through on the transmitter now. So, while it's not a true USB charger, you can connect the transmitter to USB, and then connect the RC to the transmitter, and it passes power through to the USB, instead of running down the batteries in the controller. :)

      Spin Master is the mother company of the Air Hogs brand. And they still make helicopters: airhogs.com/products&cat=cat_ah_fly

    • @bobboberson2024
      @bobboberson2024 7 років тому

      Yes, Spin Master is the mothership. But they really only have ONE legit heli - the Alpha. The rest are all drone style. There are some still floating around at retail chain warehouses or shelves - like the Axis 400, still avaialble at Toys R Us. But they are all on the chopping block. Or chopped. :(
