Begin: ~~~ The two cheaper units tested and compared in this video failed to yield correct salinity readings because these two units actually measure TDS (Total Dissolved Solids). For reasons unknown to me, the respective online sellers advertised them as salt meters or salinity meters, which in fact they are not. So just a heads up, Salt Meters or Salinity Meters are not the same as TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) Meters. ~~~ End
In this video we will test if the cheap salt meters sold online can give accurate salinity measures. We are going to be comparing it with a salt meter from Koi Medic, a well known brand of salt meter that me and friends use for years now.
Hopefully this will shed light on the interests of some people who are wondering on how these cheap salt meters perform. I classify them as salt meters on the reasoning that it is advertised as so. The title on the ads indicate that they are salt meters. For unassuming buyers, that alone is reason enough for them to have an interest in these items.

School of Baccarat oh, for sodium nitrite purity a device will not do. You will really have to do it in a laboratory and run it with the right reagents to be able to account for its purity.

i have purchased a TDS device the same as the one you showed but when i googled about it it said it cannot measure salinity but total disolved solubles so not sure if i need to change it

Hi sir, do you think a traditional refractometer is more accurate compared to the cheap digital salt meters?
For our purpose, the difference from the accuracy of a refractometer will not really be an issue. Then there's also the technique in the actual use of the refractometer, one needs good experience in order to have a confident reading from it.

You used water from "refilling" station. Does it mean it's 100% salt free? Is distilled water a good medium to test salinity?
Also for your 2,3 and 5 % test in the small container, we assume you use a proportionate amount water. 2% @400ml, 3%@600ml 5etc.
Can you do a review and comparison of submersible pumps ? (Periha, rio hf, hailea or equivalent)

For this model of Koi Master Salt Meter it cannot be calibrated.

They do work it's just you have to callabrate them with the included buffers every so often as they do knock off track alot the same as PH meters so you always have to stock up on the buffers for them! The normal salinity meters at £17 I think is cheap as chips I was actually worried that would work correctly being so cheap so I can only imagine what these cost!
