    the way I use TDS is like this: there is a base TDS of your water, mine is around 100. After I treat it and let it sit for a few hours this drops to around 50-60. This is the base I go with. If it's lower than 50 I add mineral salts to bring it back to around what I need it to be based on what I have in my tanks. Now I add this to my tank and this will be the base value. When this value increases it could be a few things but most of the time it is nitrites. If my base value was 100 and now it's 200 I'm pretty sure I have at least 80ppm NO3 in my tank and it's time to do a water change. A tds meter will never tell you how good your water is, but it can tell you how much it changed since last time you checked. How it changed ? Very good question, for that you have the other tests ... But testing takes time, 15-30 minutes to do all the tests in one tank and if you have multiple tanks it can take you a whole day. A dip with a TDS meter takes about 5 seconds max and, if you know your tanks and your water you have a really quick way to figure out weather you can have a problem in your aquarium(s) or not and weather you need to make other tests or not.

      tds is really important, my guppy and goldfish are very happy in the rain, they spawn a lot and are very active.

    Thanks for returning your videos to UA-cam. I really appreciate your knowledge, and I hope to implement your ideas into my next tank. It will be 90 gallons, and I know a couple of biocenosis baskets will give my fish a better life.

    I pay $37.45 per 1000 gallons, my monthly water bill is 200 per month! I should also list the toxins. TDS and a test kit 14 in 1

    Why doesn't the cobalt register on the TDS meter if cobalt is a mineral? The meter doesn't really detect minerals, but instead whether or not it's a charged particle (ion)?

    Many thanks for this! Could you please make a video that explain the difference between TDS, salinity and conductivity? Also how do these effect fish if I want to keep fish originating from low lever areas vs High levrl areas?

    look at videos for peat treatment of water for discus fish it will remove calcium with out removing gh i hop this helps with no water wastage

    Oh know you dont dose kno3 but how bad you think is the higher tds that resolve from dosing that stuff. I noticed the nitrat stayed the same while dosing cause its getting used from plants and bakteria but the tds got higher and higher

    Can you suggest a better method of measuring water quality? Are meters better than strips?

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums
      @anoxicfiltrationplenums  3 роки тому +2

      Yes meters are better than strips but cost more and the meters will have to be calibrated every so often.

    My tap water is very hard with a gh of 12 and I wanted to use a tds meter to compare my tank and tap water. I have yet to own one but the water treatment report from my city for 2020 has their tds listed as 390. I have been told that high tds can cause fish disease much like tuberculosis. Do you have a range of tds that I could aim for that would keep my fish from having health issues?

      watch my new UA-cam video on how to make chemi-pure yourself and it will help you to soften your water. Use maybe 200g of resin though.

    What are your thoughts on using an anoxic filter as natural swimming pool filtration?

  • @angelprince01
    @angelprince01 4 роки тому +1

    Hi Sir, I have successfully achieved full denitrification in my aquarium using a certain technology that I have developed myself, and I have stopped doing water change since January 29. As of yesterday, however, my TDS is already 150 (vs tap water of 75). Based on your discussion, TDS is not a determinant of clean water. Do you leave your tank with high TDS and your fish stays healthy? Also, may I personally consult with you on facebook?

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums
      @anoxicfiltrationplenums  4 роки тому +3

      It seems that TDS is not all that accountable for fish health meaning that TDS of 250 is not really all that high because in most cities it comes out from the tap that way. If you have come up with a new technology for denitrification I would really suggest that you keep it quiet as long as possible until you do enough research before you put it out to the public. I’ve seen too many people get beaten up by the public which pretends they are the experts in all fields of aquatic microbiology. When I first introduced the anoxic filtration system to people you would not believe how vindictive and mean people are. You can reach me : drklnovak@hotmail.com , good luck with your new system.

    My tds from tap water used to be 250 now coming out at 850.. I figured it was just calcium then started losing fish, after watching this video few months ago I checked my tap and my nitrates coming out of tap were through the roof! My fish tank had lower nitrates than my tap water.. i had to buy RO unit.

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums
      @anoxicfiltrationplenums  6 років тому +4

      209Control you must live in another country becauseTDS over 500 is not permitted in United States by the EPA. Anything over 500 is considered not safe for drinking purposes for humans.

      Kevin Novak no sir I live here in the good ole USA.. central valley California to be exact. I've called the city and they said it's a high mineral content. I never knew there was an actual law for tds levels in our tap water but I will definitely look for it. I know a few people, that started getting rashes but since I had water softener I guess I never felt the effects. Ps: I dont use soft water in my tanks just tap water prior to getting treated.

    What is orp at the bottom ?

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums
      @anoxicfiltrationplenums  3 роки тому +2

      At the bottom of what? If you're talking at the bottom of the Plenum, then I think that's a question you should be asking Father Fish or the people who use the DIANA WALSTAD method and ask that same question. What is their ORP at the bottom of the substrate that's next to the aquarium glass. See if you get an answer.

    You should have made your video 38 minutes long. so those people who believe low tds readings equals good water quality would stick it in their heads. XD
