Top 50 MAME games for your MAME Cabinet

- This list is merely my opinion. There are many games out there,and we all have our personal preferences. This is mine.
In order to make this list,the games must follow two simple rules...
1#They must be fully playable on your average MAME cabinet,and must not require any special controls or extra equipment.
2#They must closely resemble the arcade game style as much as possible,therefore RPG's (Chrono Trigger,Final Fantasy,etc.) and some Action Adventure games with higher RPG aspects (Zelda,Actraiser,etc.) do not qualify.
I made 2 seperate videos for shmup games...so you won't see any on here.
I do not own the rights to the characters, music, or footage used in this video,nor do I claim to.They belong to their respective owners.

I'm surprised not even a single Metal Slug made it. That whole series is an arcade staple.
Even though I ADDORE the metal Slug series, it's easy to see it more like a neo geo staple more than a mame one, because it basically sums up how neo geo is great and works

It seems we have similar taste! I was looking for a good list of mame games to add to my retro pi and this is exactly what I was looking for! These games are awesome and most of them will definitely be added to my collection! I'll have to check your shmup video next!

Good list, I always like looking at these to find good games I may have never heard about. These types of lists can easily be over 100 games long so don’t feel like you missed any, that’s what the comments section is for.

Guy makes list of his favorite games, people argue about why he didn't include their favorites. Tale as old as time. The comments are useful for finding other good games though lol.
Because they didn't read in the description that this list is only his personal opinion and not carved in stone along with the ten commandments
Nice list, im modding my arcade1up machine and i dont want 9000 games, i honestly just want like 25-50 games that are good that I will actually play. this is a really good list.
You need to try Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, it shits on all of the Beat em ups you mentioned including Turtles in Time.
I never realized how many beat'em ups where at the arcade lol
too many fighting games in it for me, games like 1942,time pilot 84,bank panic,mr do,space invaders part II , rainbow islands ,continental circus,frogger just to name a few should have been there lol

This is identical to the previous MAME top 50...I just made it 4:3 with a bezel and added scanlines, as all future videos in this series will look this way I felt it necessary to make these changes.

This is base on nostalgia and personal gameplay favorites. I have all neogeo, cps1, cps2 including all mentioned here.

I like the list, however I also included Wild West C.O.W. boys of Moo, Spiderman The Arcade Game. Cadillacs & Dinosaurs, The Punisher, Biomechanical Toy, Radical Bikers X, T.H. Strikes Back, Elevator Action Returns., Dungeons & Dragons...

Good list, but no Wrestlefest, Marvel vs. Capcom or Metal Slug? Guess you'd need more slots maybe a top 100.
Add Robo Army, Magician Lord, The Punisher, Red Earth, Ninja Kids, Elevator Action Returns, Caveman Ninjas, Bad Dudes, Spiderman The Video game arcade, Alien 3: The Gun.
dunno about time killers... I guess it was an interesting concept to be able to hack of your opponent's limbs in a fighting game and have it affect the gameplay, but other than that it's purely a curiosity. the rest of the list contain some really great games (only a couple I wasn't very familiar with)
I’d put outrun in top 10 along with r type,space harrier,virtual racing,operation wolf to name just a few .
Good list. I would have added Afterburner, Golden Axe, Outrun, Shinobi and Streets of Rage (Bare Knuckle).
Sinistar should have been one of the highest ranked games on this list. Good choices, though :D
my first few acrade games i played on real machine as a kid, one of first games i played in this life, and not even one on this list :( outrun, terminator 2, spiderman video game, pacland, asteroids, marble madness, moonwalker, marvel vs capcom, 1943 battle of midway, alien 3 the gun, phoenix, , arkanoid, after burner 2...
Does anyone remember a arcade game where you play as a kid and you shoot fire balls or hydokens? I remember him looking like gohan but idk

Hmmmmm...so killer instinct should run on raspberry pi 3? I would think it should yet I have read In online forums killer instinct doesn't run right in Mame on raspberry pi. Anyone try it ?

Really good list, nice variety, but!!! Yes there is a but, no Gun. Smoke??? To be honest it wouldn't have been in my top 50 up until a few weeks ago, hadn't played it in years, spotted it in Capcom classics and I can't stop, its brutally hard but fair, you die because you're not good enough unlike most arcade games that kill you with cheap stuff that you couldn't possibly predict, you have time to react in GS, I just panic.
Bubble Bobble 39! That's absurd. That game is one of the best games ever made. Certainly worthy of a top 5 ranking on this list if games...

it's a personal list, so it really depends on personal opinions, but is Time Killers there as a joke? the game is pure garbage, I can't really imagine anyone having it in their Top20 arcades ever.
Been trying to setup an PI arcade cabinet, and honestly I have to say MAME is a nightmare... Sorry for venting. Countless emulator versions which of course require according romsets, obscure rom file names, bugs, proprietary bioses and 20 years of outdated internet forum posts as a guide. How you got some of the naomi based games to work is beyond me.
know this is kind of an old comment, but, have you tried batocera? runs like a charm, it is basically a linux distro and it uses Retroarch to handle most emulators (goes from ATARI 2600 all the way to WII U) and comes preconfigured most of the way, like, 90% is already there.
regarding NAOMI, I have tried it running just for guilty gear XX like it was nothing, but i don't see why it should give problems with other games.
Its as simple as installing, getting the bios (plenty of info in youtube about that and gets updated frecuently), getting the roms (or even the full romset) and configuring controllers (once for all platforms). if a rom is not working with default config, 99% of the time just had to select a different core and that is it or i was missing files for the game to run (CHD).
I spent more time downloading than actually doing any config, took me maybe 2 hrs to have it running, including downloads and research.
Note.- the only thing i have not tried is installing windows based games (maybe i will try with River city girls), mostly did retro games since that is what i built my cabinet for in the first place.

You like using HLSL or just stick with using an effect PNG setting like the 1x2 png?
Most older games look quite nice like Dig Dug and others, but I can't seem to get the fighting games to not look so jaggy. Any advice on settings and what you like?
Thanks. Yes, I do use HLSL for mame,and I have found that some games look better than others on occasion. The best advice I can probably give you, short of going through every setting, is to google HLSL presets and try out what's out there. There are a bunch of people who have tweaked and fine tuned it to perfection,and a bunch who are...not so perfect. Everyone has a different idea as to what looks good and what doesn't.
When it comes to consoles,I google 'scanlines' and find an appropriate image, then attach it to the bezel/overlay. It's less stress on the emulator,it gives the same look,and it's customizable. If I don't like how it looks,I just try a different scanline image.
A good thing to do,because horizontal games don't always look good with the same settings as vertical games,is to keep your settings seperate. Create a 'vertical.ini' and a 'horizont.ini'...place them in your config folder,then modify them seperately.
If you still get jagged corners,then look at the settings 'scanline_size' and 'defocus'...maybe those are the culprits.

When it comes to the fighting games on here, imo King of Fighters 98UM is way better than 94. Also, best version of SF2 is Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. I'd also throw Garou on that list. Pretty solid list though

the only part that sucks(but understandable) is it still depends on your phone specs. ofc that means lower-end phones cannot play roms of games with somewhat demanding graphics, especially if they're 3d(tekken 3, etc.). if you're not having those problems then congrats, you have a good phone.

Too many side scrolling brawler, i think 10 or more. And no shmup? Really, DoDonPachi, Raiden , Galaga 88, Space Invaders or R-Type, at least one of them should be in exchange for any of the side scrolling brawler in your cabinet. Metal Slug?

helmet098 there are good torrent with more than 1000 compatible roms
helmet098 they all are reliable, it all depends on what. version of mame you have. plus you have to make sure you have all the bios files. Don't forget the chd files for games like killer instinct 2 and street fighter 3 strike. Don't stop just on mame, get demul emulator to complete your collection. For games like mvc2, power stone 1 and 2. Crazy taxi. If you Google you can get demul with included bios files, that's what I did. Runs perfect as original arcade board.

yeah..its got minor sound issues in the menus,but it runs pretty good actually during matches
I play the Tekken games on the psx emulator with shaders in my cabinet much more stable :-)
