Nothing tops that 80's era ! I know technology has evolved light years since then, but walking into an arcade back then was like going to a concert, with all the bells and whistles , different pinball machines ,the food, neon lights in the dark! Thank so much for posting, was a wonderful walk down memory lane with those glorious sounds of Robotron, Galaga& asteroids. Video quality is exceptional. Never seen asteroids so 'crisp'.
My father is 50+ years old and its crazy how good he still plays Wonder boy. You can still notice his crazy muscle memory. He rushes through so many levels. I still cant do that after many attempts. I am losing that skateboard like after few seconds and he clears multiple levels with it 😂. And he is also pretty good at the karate game coming next in the list.
I'm 47 years old and used to play many of these in the 'video game parlours'. This is the best summary of the golden age out there. These are the games that were popular back then and I'm impressed you made the effort to show how each one plays.
just curious, can you remember how much did you have to pay for a game? in China in the 90s, it was like 1 rmb = 3 coins, it was not cheap to the children, many children got addicted to it lol.
@@1984zAm Hi Zam, yes it was in the early 80s, 20 cents (New Zealand dollar) for one game. About 15 US cents at that time maybe. Not expensive for one game.
Same age, and I can say I played all these games. I eventually worked at an arcade for 5 years in the early 90s during the Street Fighter 2 revolution (this cabinet was really the renaissance of the video game arcade that placed arcades as the central hangout at any mall). Games in the early 80s cost a quarter per credit (25 cents USD) and have been all throughout until the late 80s and early 90s when cabinets became more complex and sophisticated (Outrun, Afterburner, any gun game).
I really do love lists like this. They are like talking about the greatest sports figures in any given sport. There will be different names given, but all were great. Love it!
I can definitely see a reverence for the classics in this list. I think I've grown more critical with age for arcade games. If they became grindy or frustrating, I'm less likely to hold on, but ones with good stories that have a beginning, cut-scenes, and and end I favour more. The look and feel of walking into a dark arcade with electrifying lights and sounds all around is an indescribable, breathtaking experience.
I'm less fussy when it comes to story and cut scenes, my main thing is playability. I still prefer games that with skill you can play for ages, rather than ones designed to kill you no matter how good you are, and you need to feed quarter after quarter into it to continue.
Wow!! yes indeed the perfect list and very well put together, I so remember waiting for the school lunch bell to ring and suddenly a mad dash of us kids running across the road to be the first into a shop with a games room at the back, really just 2 one was ASTEROIDES and the other was GALAXIAN and that's where all my lunch money went, today at 54 I just bought a modded ps2 and I have yet to play, but my main reason to buy is hoping to find our childhood Arcade Gems on this, games mentioned above and of course the number 1 of all time PAC MAN these midway arcade where can I find them, you just created the perfect list and I really want to bring this to my living room 🤗
Great compilation I like to see all the post "crash" games of the 80s, ie 1985+ Pre 1985 classics tend to get a lot of attention, but the 1985-1990 period saw a lot of innovation in arcade games and genre changes
ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!! ALL MY FAVOURITE TOP-10 GAMES IT'S BETWEEN 1985 AND 1990 EXPECT STREETFIGHTER II! BUT THE FIRST STREETFIGHTER RELEASED 1987! THE BEST GAMES RELEASED THE YEARS YOU SAY!! IT'S MY INNER THOUGHT , BELIEVE THAT!
When I was 10 years old in 1988, I met this kid Tony up the street, his parents owned some coin operated businesses, they had this room with 5 gallon buckets of quarters, they would leave for Mexico or wtvr for weeks at a time and... DUDE WE'D RAID THOSE BUCKETS AND HEAD TO THE ARCADE FOR DAYS!!! It was insane! GOOD TIMES
I think buddy is going to keep it a secret...I like the overlay too because of the rounded edges...that subtle radian would allow you to cheat the LCD screen a little better and mixed with some scanlines...that is why I built a MAME cabinet with a K7000 CRT 25".
Aside from the missing ones others have mentioned, I'd add Choplifter, UN Squadron, and Crystal Castles. Also Foodfight is hilarious. So simple in concept but still so much fun.
I was a total arcade rat as a kid in the 80s. Any time I could muster quarters and free time in the arcade was quality. I kept a tally and if memory serves I got to play 44 of these. I was not big into racers, brawlers, and fighters, but would give them a try regularly. Personal favorites not on the list are Zaxxon, Spy Hunter, Elevator Action, Dragon's Lair/Space Ace, Pengo, Star Castle, Phoenix, Mappy, Gorf, Tron, and Moon Patrol. Those games had art styles and game play that were unique as well. Just too many to appreciate. Still a gamer in my 50s.
Pretty good list. I spent much of my youth playing these games in the early 80’s…if I had to add some of my favs that’s missing it would be: 1. Star Wars arcade 2. Tron 3. Moon Patrol 4 Bagman
WWF Superstars was one of my favorite arcade games. It was the first wrestling game with real wrestlers from WWF. I could finish the game without losing one life bar.
Here are a few I remember being cool. --Mario Bros, Toobin, Paperboy, Yie Ar Kung Fu , Marble Madness, Rygar, Heavy Barrell, Commando, Off Road, Spy Hunter, Super Mario Bros, Fatal Fury 2, Shinobi, Hard Drivin, Moon Patrol, Excitebike, 720, Dragon's Lair 2: Time Warp, Fatal Fury 2, Art Of Fighting, Samurai Showdown, and Time Crisis.
It's so crazy considering nowadays that u can put literally 10s of thousands of Arcade games in your device now which is like 1000 arcade stores put together lol
Thanks man, this brought back so many memories of going to arcade straight after school. Used to love king fu master and defender especially. Great video
Hey there - loved the video. I was wondering what emulator you used as I love the CRT effect with the rounded edges and would like to try it - also what spec machine ? I tried this before and the filter mad the game too slow so I'd be interested in in hearing about your setup. Thanks !
I'm still building my ultimate emulated Arcade libraries on three different devices. · One full of 900+ Japan/Korea games (example: Double Dragon, KOF, Metal Slug, Puzzle Bobble, Street Fighter) · Another full of 100+ US/EU games (example: Gauntlet, Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam, Rampage, Smash TV) · The last one featuring 400+ games from the golden-age below the year 1985 (example: Donkey Kong, Marble Madness, Pac-Man, Q*bert, TRON)
I played haunted castle on one of these coin machines and it looked real good, back in 1989. little did I know it was a Castlevania 😮 but I have not seen one of his existence anymore 🤔
Ooooh so that's what you call "awesomeness"! And thanks to those legendary titles, we have a HUGE hobby we call GAMING. Bless them (and you) for what they gave us...Shit load of fun!!! Keep the good work man.

So many arcade games I love that weren't here, but it's also hard to argue against the inclusion of most that are here. Enjoyable video in any case, thanks.
Personalmente me faltarían Paperboy, Toobin y Psychic 5, también metería alguno "pre-Space Invaders", Break Out o Gun Fight por ejemplo. Pero muy buena la lista. Me sobrarían el de las tortugas ninja y NBA Jam.
Good times right there! 😎 Dear 80's ~ Wow.. this arcade list has some serious nostalgia sensory overload! Remember being an 80's kid going to the arcade with family and friends. First games played were Pac-Man and Galaga. Followed by Bad Dudes at the local pizza joint. Than when Double Dragon I and II came along.. that solidified the Beat-Em Ups! The Simpsons, TMNT, The Avengers and X-Men where the 4 player kid party games of the late 80's. Hello 90's ~ When Street Fighter II came out it was bye-bye Beat-Em-Ups. Capcom and Snk (Neo-Geo) seemed to take over with many games. Then Mortal Kombat comes out, everyone was in shock and awe when they caught glimpse at the blood and fatalities. Killer Instinct probably had one of the most impressive arcade attracts of the time. Time Killers, though not a great game was always remembered by my cousin and I for the creepy voice announcer and intense sound effects. Than the birth of polygonal 3d fighters comes about, Virtua Fighter I and II, Tekken, as well as Soul Edge. Virtua Fighter II became the main attraction at the mall arcade with a huge screen and a sit down arcade station. Motocross and Cruis'n USA were pretty damn fun and who didn't love the bikini chick in Cruis'n 👀. The Memories ~ Arcades from back in the days were a special time that you could never really replicate nowadays. Remember watching older guys tear it up in competitive games and placing their quarters on the arcade dash to signify "I'm up next!". My buddies older brothers showing us how to cheat on Skee-Ball to get maximum tickets at Bonkers to get mini squishy troll toys 😂. Luckily having that cool aunt that was heavily into video games bringing you out on weekend arcade excursions and having all the good nes games at Grandma's house. An lastly, the fond memory of how mum would ask if you want to go to the arcade at the mall so she can abandon you for 2-3 hours with a giant cup of quarters.. while she goes shopping 🤣. "Ah the good ol' days!"
The 80´s arcade games are total nostalgia. When I hear the music and sounds it takes me back in time. Got a few on my PS5, who needs God of War Ragnorak when you have Pac Man, Galaxian, Galaga, Frogger, Moon Patrol, Track & Field et al. 🔥🔥🔥
Really great trip down memory lane, and I thought it was pretty bang on (maybe not the order), until....no Dragon's Lair?? The game might have been pretty basic in that the moves were all fixed, but that game absolutely mind fried arcaders when it came out in 1983. No game had more "quarters up" than that game. People would stand around and watch the game play for hours. You can't have a greatest hits list without that game. But, this was a great video. Thanks.
Cutest game play music belongs to Bubble Bobble. Surprised Rygar wasn't on the list as well as Dragon's Lair. Everybody has a love story on how that machine affected them. LOL
So good. Some standout memories - that bad ass "slap" as you landed the roundhouse in Karate Champ, using a coin to slide over the button on Track&Field to make him run super fast. Daytona the sense of speed. Street Fighter II the huge crowd of people who were always watching the matches.
When the Arcade 1up came out with Star Wars, I had to get it. No regrets, it is just like the arcade, just a little smaller. I played the heck out of that when I was a kid.
Some more i remember now: Puzzle bubble, power spikes, bomb jack (just because it's really classic), robocop, Roland goes digging (amstrad cpc), Phoenix, flying shark, Green beret..
Very nice how this was put together. So many great memories from most of these games. Depending on the game, puts me in a different arcade experience back in the day.
Other great arcade games not mentioned here (Listed based on what I’m thinking of first): 1. Mario Bros. 2. Jr. Pac-Man 3. Mappy 4. Bosconian 5. Gaplus 6. Pac-Mania 7. Donkey Kong 3 8. Rally-X and New Rally-X 9. Crazy Taxi 10. Altered Beast 11. Millipede 12. Super Pac-Man 13. Pac-Land 14. Star Wars Arcade 15. Star Wars Trilogy 16. Baraduke 17. Mr. Driller 18. Moon Patrol 19. Joe & Mac and Joe & Mac Returns 20. Galaga ‘88 21. The Namco Arrangement games 22. 1943 23. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 24. Rampage World Tour 25. Paperboy 26. Primal Rage 27. Spy Hunter 28. Sky Kid 29. Tower of Druaga 30. Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors 31. Street Fighter Alpha 3 32. Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age Heroes 33. Tron 34. Sinistar 35. Pac-Man 👏 👍 Algunos otros q recuerdo q nunca faltaban en los arcade q viste en los 80s y 90s eran: International Superstar Soccer, Bad Dudes, Moon Patrol, y Robocop.

Arcades in the 80s ruled. I can remember fast food venues and snooker halls having arcade game areas and kids just crowding around watching people play.
I spent so many hours and quarters playing so many of these games in the 80’s 😀
Great compilation
I like to see all the post "crash" games of the 80s, ie 1985+
Pre 1985 classics tend to get a lot of attention, but the 1985-1990 period saw a lot of innovation in arcade games and genre changes
ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!! ALL MY FAVOURITE TOP-10 GAMES IT'S BETWEEN 1985 AND 1990 EXPECT STREETFIGHTER II! BUT THE FIRST STREETFIGHTER RELEASED 1987! THE BEST GAMES RELEASED THE YEARS YOU SAY!! IT'S MY INNER THOUGHT , BELIEVE THAT!
wow, that list takes me back. Great times, and when times seemed easier and less complicated than today.
GOOD TIMES
Anyone know if the animated overlays used here are available to download anywhere? . They look great
I'd like to know the answer to your question as well. The arcade cabinet is a great too, Can't find it anywhere on the net.
I think buddy is going to keep it a secret...I like the overlay too because of the rounded edges...that subtle radian would allow you to cheat the LCD screen a little better and mixed with some scanlines...that is why I built a MAME cabinet with a K7000 CRT 25".
@@dennyhaynes3 hi there, I bought a cabinet about 6 months ago 1000 bucks well worth it. All these games are on it. Great purchase. QualityArcades
Excellent list. Some notable exceptions for me: Battlezone, Scramble, Paperboy and Time Pilot.
Aside from the missing ones others have mentioned, I'd add Choplifter, UN Squadron, and Crystal Castles. Also Foodfight is hilarious. So simple in concept but still so much fun.
I've been playing Choplifter lately on my MAME cab. It really is so good. He also missed Rolling Thunder and Shinobi.
Such a wave of nostalgia. I love all those games and still play them regularly.
Gracias. Cheers and keep it up, Chur from NZ :)
Thanks to you as always ;). Have a merry christmas.
@@TROldSchoolGamer Merry Xmas bro 👍
Pretty good list. I spent much of my youth playing these games in the early 80’s…if I had to add some of my favs that’s missing it would be:
1. Star Wars arcade
2. Tron
3. Moon Patrol
4 Bagman
Tron. Hell yeah.
Add Exerion and Phoenix
Spy Hunter 1983
Asteroid game 1979
Pong game 1972
Aliens arcade game
Moon Patrol....ou yes!!!! And Scramble,Gyruss...
Really nice vid footage of games and attention to detail on each arcade machine. Nice
Clásico de clásicos y grandes joyas de leyenda!!.🕹️🕹️👊🏼
Very appealing presentation with the control boards and a zoomed in gameplay. Glad to see Mr Do in the list.
WWF Superstars was one of my favorite arcade games.
It was the first wrestling game with real wrestlers from WWF.
I could finish the game without losing one life bar.
Poppycock!
I LOVE THE WAY YOU DID THIS ❤❤❤!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH ❤❤❤!!! I LOVE CHILLIN WHILE THESE PLAY😊
Me encantan que pongas todas las marquesinas con las artes originales de cada juego, eso me gusta mucho! Que suerte poder verlo así jeje
Here are a few I remember being cool. --Mario Bros, Toobin, Paperboy, Yie Ar Kung Fu , Marble Madness, Rygar, Heavy Barrell, Commando, Off Road, Spy Hunter, Super Mario Bros, Fatal Fury 2, Shinobi, Hard Drivin, Moon Patrol, Excitebike, 720, Dragon's Lair 2: Time Warp, Fatal Fury 2, Art Of Fighting, Samurai Showdown, and Time Crisis.
Battle Toads, Bad Dudes, Crusin USA, Killer Instinct, and Golden Tee. Techmo Bowl,,,Very popular games as well
I remember as a kid nearly every corner store had a street fighter or Mortal Kombat Arcade Cabinet.
What’s crazy is how NO corner stores have Arcade cabinets now . I guess they don’t want kids hanging out there anymore .
It's so crazy considering nowadays that u can put literally 10s of thousands of Arcade games in your device now which is like 1000 arcade stores put together lol
Where did you grow up?
There used to be an arcade machine at the cheap store? Holy Christ I would not go home if arcade cabinet exist
Brisbane Australia@@crieverytim
Thanks man, this brought back so many memories of going to arcade straight after school. Used to love king fu master and defender especially. Great video
Hey there - loved the video. I was wondering what emulator you used as I love the CRT effect with the rounded edges and would like to try it - also what spec machine ? I tried this before and the filter mad the game too slow so I'd be interested in in hearing about your setup. Thanks !
Gracias no me acordaba de operación wolf ,que recuerdos cuando hiba con mis compañeros de curso a los arcade . Gracias !!!
No mention of ‘Spy Hunter’, one of the best arcade games of all time.
Didn't even seen Gorf either.
最近のゲームは複雑で、遊ぶと疲れます。しかし、レトロゲームはシンプルで楽しいです☆☆☆
Thank you very much for uploading. This was a pleasant trip down memory lane.
I'm still building my ultimate emulated Arcade libraries on three different devices.
· One full of 900+ Japan/Korea games (example: Double Dragon, KOF, Metal Slug, Puzzle Bobble, Street Fighter)
· Another full of 100+ US/EU games (example: Gauntlet, Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam, Rampage, Smash TV)
· The last one featuring 400+ games from the golden-age below the year 1985 (example: Donkey Kong, Marble Madness, Pac-Man, Q*bert, TRON)
There is a lot of games on that list that I don’t miss playing.
Two of my favorites that didn't make the list are Moon Patrol and Ladybug.
My first thoughts absolutely!!! Add Crush Roller :)
Great selection there. My top 50 would include StsrWars (sit-down cabinet), Tron, Jackal, Battlezone, Scramble
This brings back so much memories 👍🏻, miss my childhood
looking at these games made me realize how awesome my childhood was
Very cool........Rygar and Pac land deserve to be on the list, as does commando
Which shader are you using ? Really Nice…
Dude, your video Rocks! Never seen such a Rad compilation. Gonna share for sure. Thanks!
Great List. So many great titles, only so much space.
I would also have considered...
*Hard Drivin/Race Drivin
*Ikari Warriors
*Dragon's Layer
*Star Wars Arcade
*Tron
*Cruisin USA
Cruisin' USA was awesome. San Fransico Rush was decent too. I could play Ikari Warriors for hours. I still hear the theme song in my head.
Dear 80's ~
Wow.. this arcade list has some serious nostalgia sensory overload!
Hello 90's ~
When Street Fighter II came out it was bye-bye Beat-Em-Ups.
The Memories ~
Arcades from back in the days were a special time that you could never really replicate nowadays.
Señor , estoy de acuerdo...
You can’t forget about Mappy. That, Dig Dug, and Galaga were my OGs
Mappy is my all time favorite
@@happycat4838 I really like the bonus rounds
So many memories man thanks for remembering my childhood.
Fantastic! Well done. But where is Tapper? Thx
Phoenix and Astro Blaster were my go-to's back in the day, here in the UK. So nice to be able to run most of these on a humble Pi 3 4 years later!
Increíble video, Radik, uno de los mejores recopilatorios de hitazos de Arcade. Muy entretenido.
Great list! Played so many of these classics!!
LOL
Oh you said it...dragons lair was the best unique game in the arcade back then
So good. Some standout memories - that bad ass "slap" as you landed the roundhouse in Karate Champ, using a coin to slide over the button on Track&Field to make him run super fast. Daytona the sense of speed. Street Fighter II the huge crowd of people who were always watching the matches.
I'd remove a few and replace with Star Wars, Mario Bros, Spyhunter and a few other classics, but still a very solid list.
Those were the exact three I thought should have been on here. Well done!
I was wondering if anyone else loved Star Wars. That was my go to!
When the Arcade 1up came out with Star Wars, I had to get it. No regrets, it is just like the arcade, just a little smaller. I played the heck out of that when I was a kid.
Excellent video, thanks. It’s the sounds that really bring you back to the arcade.
Hermosos recuerdos!
Muy buen video!
Saludos desde Argentina 🇦🇷
31:46 man, you have good taste lol, I'm really happy that you have the same opinion as me
Que gram recompilacion,me encanto, felicidades y por cierto que front utilizas en este video para que se vea las arcades con su marquesina??
glad i got to see DD, Smash TV, MK2, and SF2 roll out.
too good.
Some amazing games that take me back. I’d have added Shadow Warriors and Shinobi 😊👍🏻
Shinobi, definitely! When I finally beat that game in college, it was like a medal of honor
Ahh, great walk down memory lane. Thank you for uploading this.
They're all good, but it's missing my favorites: Beast Busters, World Heroes 1&2, Mappy, Space Gun, Aero Fighters & of course, Spy Hunter.
Gratos recuerdos...gracias 😅

A good list!
Para mi tambien Mario Bros es top 1
Altered Beast! yes please. So good.
I would add to your list NARC
I had a Super Pac-Man growing up. I knew the best pattern for getting way up there. Dad sold it for a Juke Box. What was he thinking! Still have the tabletop Galaxian though.
What frontend and emulator you use? arcade cabinets Look great!
Pac-Man 👏 👍 Algunos otros q recuerdo q nunca faltaban en los arcade q viste en los 80s y 90s eran: International Superstar Soccer, Bad Dudes, Moon Patrol, y Robocop.
Any idea on whats that frontend? Looks really nice with the arcades !
Good watch but how does Dragon's Lair not make the top 50 ?
If it's true, it could be in this TOP perfectly. The most successful ARCADE laserdisc.
@@TROldSchoolGamer Dragon's Lair needs to go in down towards the bottom. Just omit one of the fighting games as there are too many of them cluttering your list
Where is flying shark? Love the video! Keep it up!
Good list, but there are many games that I remember people going crazy for that really need to be on this list. Bad Dudes, Pit Fighter (terrible game, but it was a big deal at the time), Moon Patrol, WrestleFest, Commando, Virtua Fighter
Bad Dudes was epic
Arcades in the 80s ruled. I can remember fast food venues and snooker halls having arcade game areas and kids just crowding around watching people play. We all dreamed of playing these games at home someday and when the sega and Nintendo systems came out, it was the beginning of the end of the classic arcades. Great memories and god bless emulators and Mame ROMs.
Arcades in the 80s and 90s you mean
