F.P. Journe: A Retrospective Part 1

- To say François-Paul Journe is the most prominent watchmaker of the last three decades might not be an overstatement. Inspired at an early age by the work of the great innovators that came before him, Abraham-Louis Breguet and George Daniels, the sheer breadth of his horological inventions over his long career has proven his mastery of the craft and left an indelible mark on watchmaking history.
François-Paul rarely gives interviews now and we are privileged to have him reflect on his life’s work with Wei. In Part 1 of this retrospective, François-Paul shares his early fascination with the tourbillon and constant force mechanisms, eventually crafting his own watches that incorporated these two components which enhance chronometric performance. These early creations would garner the respect from the watchmaker many regard as the 20th century’s greatest, George Daniels, who called François-Paul “the best”.

Probably one of the best interviews I’ve seen. Thanks Wei and the Revolution team. I was especially impressed with the respect and cordiality of both gentlemen at the beginning of the interview.
This is one of the rare interviews where i see fpj opening up. Great job, Wei Koh!
Thank you for the interview. I'm looking forward to part II
Terrific interview! You can sense that François-Paul was very comfortable to have this friendly discussion while sitting in his favorite brasserie. The conversation was very relaxed and intimate, and we were able to learn new details about the early days. Bravo!
Can only imagine how it felt to receive such high praise from George Daniels - FP Journe is surely the secret horological child of Breguet and Daniels . I Only wish I could wear one of his pieces - it must be like wearing a modern moving da Vinci
Thank you Wei, there was Breguet then Daniels and now Journe.
What a nice interview, Mister Journe seems a nice calm man though his reputation says the opposite.
Great job, keep them coming please.
What a gap in time between the greats. Breguet - G.D.
Great to bump into you at Zurich airport yesterday Wei, all the best.. and Happy Birthday!!!
Julian, Malaysia
so nice to meet you
This interview is pure gold , thank you
Les interviews qu'on aime ! Merci
Incroyable, le meilleur interview avec FPJ que j’ai vu, merci Wei
Super Wei, bravo pour le niveau de français ! M Journe a l'air très simple, c'est toujours captivant de l'écouter.
So the key to François-Paul is a good Pinot. Well done. Looking forward to Part 2.
Great interview, unfortunately was unable to follow due to the white subtitles on white back drop....
Agree. The subtitle could be done better. But great content as usual.
And excellent conversation
What a great interview! I loved it!
What an absolute treat this is. Thank you! 🙏🏻
Mind blowing video! I am speechless!
Les interviews françaises de Françoise Paul sont tellement plus élégantes. No pun intended.
Conversation incroyable et utile! Merci !
Sincères amitiés ,
Très petit constructeur de "clock's on wrist ", amateur Roumain au UK.
What a passion
Fantastic interview. Great job, Wei et al!
Great interview! If only I could read...
Very informative interview.
Splendid interview Wei!
Enjoyed how much FPJ shared with you especially that bit about the no name tourbillon with the remontoir d'egalite made for Dr Gschwind. That was funny :)
Interview plein d’authenticité et de sincérité
Bravo
Translation issue: hello Wei, great work; it is really hard to read the subtitles due to the back ground and the small lettering
Great talks , the Best
Wei’s French still amazes me!
Incroyable
top-notch interview, thanks a lot Wei for it. François-Paul is a living legend.
Wei is the G of horological journalism!
Great interview. Bigger subtitles though
Bel entretien. Continue comme ça Wei!
I love your Videos! ❤
Is there anything that Wei can't do? I'm impressed of how fluent Wei is in many languages and his knowledge. This is so much better than Hodinkee.
Subtitles very small size fonts and not readable change it immediately so that viewers will appreciate thanks god bless
Way to go Wei--you are one of the best in the industry
I can’t find part 2. It it out yet?
Turn subs in black color and increase the font size. We don't want to miss out on this amazing conversation
Incredible interview - one for the true watch nerds. What a shame that fake negotiations for Rolexes get more views.
Really poorly done subtitles.
White text on a white table cloth. Who ever said FP wasn’t difficult? But then I used my glasses and a loupe to see it. 😊 Kind of funny in a way. Once you really look, you see the beauty of the words and appreciate what FP did to unknowingly make Dr. Daniels mad.
Please republish this video with larger font subtitles that are in a color that contrast with the background so we can read the subtitles. Right now, it’s white font, small size font, on a background of a white tablecloth. Unless you speak French and don’t need the subtitles, I don’t know how the viewer is supposed to understand what I can only imagine is a great interview!
Can’t see the subtitles clearly enough
🔥
An Asian speaking French with Italian gesture, BRAVO!!!
The maestro smiles with much difficulty. I wonder if JS Bach was the same way.
Master
Please post another version with proper subtitles.... virtually unwatchable.
First:)
So fucking hard to read!
Monsignor Journe is as great as Miles Davis. Easily.
Can't he or does he not want to speak English, I wonder.
the subtitle is horrible, very bad choice of colour.
