    Had a friend make a venom character. He's just pretty much straight hexblade, but rather than a weapon we have it be tattoos. His patron is the soul of a dead ancient shadow dragon that lives on him in the form of the tattoo. He gains powers and levels by absorbing treasure into his tattoos, joining them to his body, thus replenishing his patron's hoard.

      Who am I talking about, Kugrox? Am I talking about Ray Kane's friend's PC, or am I talking about Venom?
      You're focusing a little too hard on the "consumes treasures" aspect of the character. It could just as easily have been a possessing ghost that eats the souls of the things you kill to grow stronger, or even a Symbiotic entity evolving to combat new threats.

      Funnily enough, reading over the Blackrazor sentient weapon, it's basically Venom. It's a +3 greatsword, usually CN, brutish, domineering, needs to be fed souls regularly, and can potentially take control of the wielder. Though it does throw you some pretty sweet benefits. Honestly, I'd totally be the Venom of the party wielding the Blackrazor, teaching it to only eat the souls of bad people XD

    a easier build to make for this would have just been to make a full Circle of the Spore druid, maybe dipping into warlock a bit if you really wanted to make it something more alien, but spore druids make a way better Venom then this build. for those who dont know, Spore Druids have a Symbiotic relationship with their spores, and they can exchange their wild shape for a form where their spores can create a protective barrier that gives them a ton of temp hp, you could flavor that to be the venom 'suit'. Druids also get the cantrip "Primal Savagery" which is a Bite or Claw attack that does a ton of acid damage at later levels, seeing as venom's attacks are mostly strong bites and claw attacks, that seems perfect. If you wanted to go fully with the spiderweb root, then get the Cloak of the Arachnid or whatever its called.
    If you want to play as Venom, just go with a spore druid, pretty sure that the creators of the subclass had things like Venom in mind when making it from how close it actualy gets to just being venom.

      How about the Undying patron, as by level 6, you automatically heal up to 13 hit points with a single death saving throw success, meaning, you no longer need 3 successes to not die, you instead, only need 1, and are immediately back in the fight. Which is perfect for a symbiote since he can keep the host alive through pretty much anything. Ill be building my Venom to be more of an immortal tank type character, more focus on pressure and survivability

    Another, though less optimal, race to play as venom is the Dhampir lineage. The book mentions something like a parasite giving you your abilities, the lineage also basically gains spider climb for free, dark vision, and 3+ to your stats. You don’t get that feat though- is a nice way to dodge needing the spider climb spell so you don’t have to drain your precious spell slots, Dhampirs are also generally speedier at 35ft to start so that’s a nice little touch

    • @Kugrox
      @Kugrox 5 років тому +1

      I took the Mystic class and flavored everything to be Psionic Butterflies (Based on Psylocke from the X-Men)
      I also made an Artificer Warforged, and flavored all the spells and tech based abilities as ki attacks and built my character to be an Android from Dragonball Z. Basically the stats reflect that of a warforged and the abilities reflect that of an artificer, but he APPEARS to just be a normal teenage dude, because he's a highly sophisticated android. I know some people will say how can an android exist in a world without future tech and the answer is permanent polymorph like any dragon would have, or magic, or who cares its for fun. Basically just flavor everything you do, don't change statistics, just describe everything how you want. For example he doesn't have a cudgel but I gave him one for weapon damage purposes, flavoring that his normal hand attack deals the damage of a cudgel, this works because it doesnt change any game mechanics, and it makes him sound even more terrifying since he just looks like a normal kid, who happens to hit like a truck. The only downside is, if someone disarms your "Cudgel", they are actually cutting off your hand. Luckily, you're an android, and it just reattaches.
      And then finally I created a Death Knight by making a wizard from the necromancy school, and stocking him up on Strength to wear platemail, he does less spell damage in favor of hard hitting melee attacks, lacks hit poitns because he's a wizard so high constitution was required to balance him out, and of course his army of the undead makes him a death knight. 16d6 at level 4, you can't go wrong.

      I’ve done something similar where I took a shadow monk and, well, I took the name literally. The whole character’s gimick was that he could control shadows (as well as his own body, as he himself was a shadow golem/construct of sorts). So I reflavored all the monk abilities into him just manipulating shadows in some way. That just covered class though-the actual power is supposed to come from the race, I’m just having trouble balancing said homebrewed race.

    My Venom is 6 level Beast Barbarian and 14 Level Spores Druid. It gave you power like a Venom who attack with a claw, it can climbing, jumping, and absorb a lot of attacks while using rage and spores symbiote. The downfall is that it can't cast spells while raging. Although you can alternate all the vines or whip spell into more gooey things rather than a plant, like a thorn whip, just like a web. Also, primal savagery works well on the basic attacks.

    I feel like the Dhampir race could work really well. Quote the Dhampir racial traits:
    “Dhampir Origins:
    1. You are the reincarnation of an ancestor who was a vampiric tyrant.
    2. Your pact with a predatory deity, fiend, fey, or spirit causes you to share their hunger.
    3. You survived being attacked by a vampire but were forever changed.
    4. **A parasite lives inside you. You indulge its hunger.** “
    “Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness as shades of gray.”
    “Spider Climb. You have a climbing speed equal to your walking speed. In addition, at 3rd level, you can move up, down, and across vertical surfaces and upside down along ceilings, while leaving your hands free.”
    “Vampiric Bite. Your fanged bite is a natural weapon, which counts as a simple melee weapon with which you are proficient. You add your Constitution modifier, instead of your Strength modifier, to the attack and damage rolls when you attack with this bite. It deals 1d4 piercing damage on a hit. While you are missing half or more of your hit points, you have advantage on attack rolls you make with this bite.”

    Alternative build proposal, Take Simic Hybrid as your race of choice, taking the Nimble Climber feature, then at 5th level get the grappling appendage
    build Venom as a berserker barbarian, treating the exhaustion as venom exhausting Eddie's energy
    you get unarmored defense, reckless attack, danger sense (spidey sense)
    eventually you'll get persistent rage, which could be interpreted as Eddie training his body to handle stress
    Maybe multiclass into warlock for arms of hadar if you really want AOE
    pros- less M.A.D, extra strong, versatile climbing, extra durable, mobility options
    cons- exhaustion is a bitch, no aoe, no spells

    Episode 59 of the Fire Emblem stats: Eddie Brock.
    Venom's weapon skills are very similar to Spidey's. He's a great brawler and archer (as the best equivalent to webs). Unlike Peter, he has a strength in heavy armor since the symbiote suit is surprisingly durable. He's bad at authority because he works solo most of the time.
    Venom is fast and strong but he has weak resistance and he's not a charming guy to be around.

    My own take on the character uses the Simic Hybrid for wall crawling an a pair of grappling appendages. Started monk for two levels and then went three levels of spore druid. Funnily enough, the jump spell works along with the Monk's step of the wind ability multiplying your jump distance by six. My Venom has twelve strength at level five so that's a seventy foot plus horizontal jump. Vine Whip allows Venom to pull enemies to him and if he up on a wall you can yank them ten feet in the air before letting them fall on their butts. Primal Savagery fits the aesthetic as well though most of your attacks will be coming from the grappling appendages. From there you can take druid to four for an ASI and then keep bumping that monk till you get extra attacks.

    Well I really think that the Order of the Lycan
    Blood Hunter can be a better combo, just for the possibility to transform and getting big claw also with the flaw of :
    Bloodlust (Special)
    If you begin your turn with 14 or fewer hit points, you must make a DC 8 WIS saving throw or else move directly towards the nearest creature to you and use the Attack action against that creature, determining targets randomly if there is more than one possible target.
    If you are unable to concentrate, you automatically fail this saving throw.
    You can become out-of-control and attack allies without thinking of that, good for role-play.
    With the :
    Blood Curse of the Eyeless
    When a creature you can see within 30 feet of you makes an attack roll, you can use your reaction to roll one hemocraft die and subtract the number rolled from the creature’s attack roll. You can choose to use this feature after the creature’s roll, but before the DM determines whether the attack roll succeeds. The creature is immune if it is immune to blindness.
    You can ''blind'' target with eye-webbing so it's more likely to be in the style of the spider side that Venom learn how to act and battle.
    also that just level 3, others level give speed, jumping, (not swimming sadly), and of course more attack and buff of the stats... And create Fear effect.

    Wouldn't Barbarian make more sense than fighter for Venom? Or is it the lack of a good Totemic Tradition? I figure given you're already going for a Spider adaption it might be better to go Totem Barbarian. Yes you can't cast spells, but when he gets up close and personal Venom rarely uses his webs. Taking the Bear totem first also mitigates your AC issues.

    You don't have Prof in Heavy Armor since you multiclassed into Fighter. So no Platemail for you.

    • @Kugrox
      @Kugrox 5 років тому

      Could start off as fighter then multiclass into warlock, then flavor the platemail as just being part of your symbiotic body, IE, your symbiote created this armor for you. And finally, keep in mind this build is of course, just a draft. If you, for example, chose to roll stats, its very likely you'd have your low dump stats the same, but even higher physical stats. Meaning you wouldn't necessarily need to take ability score improvements, and instead, could take feats to either super power your symbiote, or, use them to boost your armor proficiencies if you didnt start as a fighter.
      Heres the question i've been debating with. I know I want to make a symbiote type character. But do I want to make a SYMBIOTE or a man WITH a symbiote...Meaning do I want to have to jump from host to host when one dies. Could be some very interesting game play there.

    Or just play the Synthesist Summoner from Pathfinder. Preferably the chained version because unlike other cases the unchained version is a nerf because one particularly salty creator of Pathfinder has a personal vendetta against this class and wants to prevent as many as he can from having fun with it. (Which is odd because it's not really 'op' in that ninth level casters like wizards, witches, arcanists, clerics, druids, etc. are still stronger.)

      Unarmored defense, high movement speed, astral arms represents tendrils... yeah, I'd say that class has the "meat" of the build down. Keep a couple levels of warlock for the essential spider-climb, cosmetic shapeshifting and maybe some more slime spells and you'd have a pretty solid Venom build.

    I have one issue with this video. You said two slots per day, but warlock slots refresh on a short rest

    • @Kugrox
      @Kugrox 5 років тому

      Not every campaign allows short rests, so take this video as just a rough draft, when you build your final venom character, it will inevitably be different. For example I wont be focusing on Charisma, instead taking Dexterity for armor, and if you roll stats, which, for a character thats supposed to be overly powerful like Venom, you might as well, you're pretty much guaranteed to get a host of powerful attributes that matter, and can then forego future ability score improvments in favor of of feats.

  • @HinchaGeek
    @HinchaGeek 5 років тому

    Correct me if im wrong, but doesn't the ability score improvement relates to the level of the character and not the level of the class? I saw that you added Ability Score every two levels at some point. Im not pissing on your build I just wanna understand the rule better

    • @josephperez2004
      @josephperez2004 5 років тому

      Checking on it, some classes appear to gain Ability Scores more often, notably the Fighter. I think it's sort of a generic buff for classes that are less complicated or don't get as technical.
