Can't say that I do not approve of that.

"After a tragedy it is perfectly natural for a ranger to become a war guy."
Is that a Crown of Candy ref? :D
Hell yeah. Not a seed guy anymore.

First of all, how dare you!
I love it.
Also really like this class mix. I do feel like a DM facilitating the building of this class could let the player buy things like explosives and then this could be a fun Gloomstalker/Kensai multiclass for better powerbuilding, but you would still run into the armor issue and like you always say, you can't rely on the DM giving you stuff for accurate builds.
But maybe it would be fun to revisit a build under the assumption the DM will allow some magic items from the books? Idk the criteria, but it could be a fun to do.
Totally expected rogue (assassin)/fighter/artificer (artillerist), and was pleasantly surprised to see ranger.
why would he be an artificer??

Ooooh I love how you are sharing your thoughts process! Please do it more in the future, it really help understanding your choices and who knows, maybe you'll receive less heat from your toxic "fans" doing so!
I heard the Crown of Candy reference, and I also love my peppermint seed turned war turned back into seed guy
"A robin by any other name would still tweet" - Clearly as a former robin, he is still a robin, and to be a robin, you must shapeshift, meaning he is a druid
The worst thing about a cool helmet is that it would hide a handsome half-orc face.
Pros: Relentless endurance is sorta like a Lazurus pit, free darkvision for nightwork, intimidation and a boost to strength and con. Plus half orcs are hot
Cons: You lose the free feat, and with no starting boosts to the stats you need you're gonna be pressed for ASIs.
Verdict: Half-orcs are hot, play a half-orc Red Hood
Given Jason's, one could say, recklessness when fighting in melee and his use of venom to bolster his strength, I would argue that a level or two of barbarian would have fit quite nicely into this build. You could even go with three levels if you want to emphasize his anger issues (berserker) or his return from the dead (zealot).
Jason Alt-Build
Race: Half-Elf because of his mutation in the Lazarus Pit and from Venom.
Background: Urchin
Class Breakdown:
Rogue Thief 12
Barbarian Berserker 8
Feats:
Tavern Brawler or the Unarmed Fighting UA
Sharpshooter
Crossbow Expert
While not optimal because they don't synergize perfectly, you'd get 8 skills, 4 of which have expertise, solid damage at range and good melee options, along with rage standing in for Venom, and he would have good mobility though not as much as his brothers, being more of a bruiser than a boxer.
While thematically appropriate, you're choosing between three weapons at any given time- unarmed attacks which can't benefit from Sneak Attacks(from Tavern Brawler since Unarmed Fighting is a Fighting Style and neither class gets one), crossbow attacks which can't benefit from Rage, or finesse weapon attacks. You could also use a finesse weapon to attack and then fire the crossbow, but you wouldn't have a free hand to reload it, and unarmed attacks don't trigger Crossbow Expert.
@@soysaucerb yeah, it is a drag, but my line if thought is for weapon switching is Jason hits hard at a distance, and is more brutal up close, so while SA doesn't synergize and Rage doesn't help the Rogue abilities really, it would be close to it.
Honestly most superheroes are more like Monsters than PCs in terms of abilities and prowess.
Rage absolutely does help the Rogue abilities, as Tulok explores in his Jason Voorhees video. Summary: If you're using your Strength modifier to hit with a Finesse weapon (and using Reckless Attack to get advantage), you're satisfying the requirements for both the Rage bonus and Sneak Attack.
@@soysaucerb oh wow, missed that, that's good to know. Thanks!
@@soysaucerb I actually like the barb-rogue mix for this when you look at the sneak attack and the issues with reloading. It means if you have no free action to draw/store the knife you need to use the possibly less damaging fists that don't get sneak attack but you are rewarded for using that free action with the knife accurately.
That depends on how the DM adjudicates the ammo property though, because I would personally say you can draw the knife but must put it away before firing, and maybe let a player roll some slight of hand to reload while carrying the knife. But like Tulok usually says, you can't assume the DM will let you do something just because it's cool.
The closest thing I'll get to a Red X build.
No don’t say that, he’s never outta the running
I just want to recreate my favorite Chaotic Neutral boy
Finally! Love red hood! Also, fun idea. Building the Winchester brothers from supernatural. They are monster hunters but have raised the dead and have made deals with devils and angels. Also if he hasn’t seen it Turlok would get to research by binging. Idk if people consider that for some builds. Good show btw
They don't use much in the way of magic themselves, unless you want to count Castiel as a summon. They get their magical items from others and the closest thing to a spell they use is the Exorcism ritual, which is more lore-based (and probably a combined Religion and Performance check). There is a Monster Hunter sub-class which seems on-brand (though I would stop at 7th level. Alternately some levels of Ranger given that they spend a lot of time tracking things down and are called 'Hunters' (this means you'd be dex-focused which works better with the suggested multi-classes). You could certainly argue for a Warlock dip for Sam, though his powers kind of disappear after doing one big thing with them. Some Rogue levels might be good for Dean given his general handiness (and propensity to backstab), and I'd argue Lore Bard for Sam as he went to College and it shows. Assassin Rogue for Dean, maybe, for the feature that lets you create a false identity. He does that a lot. It also fits given that most of the fights are decided by a well-timed sneak attack.
You could take Variant Human or Revenant for either of them. Lord knows they've died enough. Disguise Kit and Thief's Tools proficiencies in there somewhere, and between the two of them there should be Investigation, Perception, Religion, and Arcana proficiencies. Probably both of them pick up the Crossbow Expert feat.
I'd call Dean a Monster Hunter 11/Assasin Rogue 9 as this gives him both Extra Attack 2 and Infiltration Expertise (fake IDs). You can use a dex weapon (your hand crossbow [gun] or a knife) with little worry about losing out on damage as most of that comes from Sneak Attack and Superiority Die. The Indomitable letting your re-roll a saving throw is pretty great and in-character, too.
I know I suggested Lore Bard for Sam, but given the lack of magic he uses post season five you could just take the Scholar background instead and use the same build for both of them.
I know you made this like 3 years ago but thanks so much!!! Red Hood is my all time favorite Batman character and I'm so glad you used that mega DnD brain of yours to give me some neat ideas! Keep at it!
I love this build so much, I personally built Jason as 11 gunslinger 9 assassin and worked with my dm on his bullets being magical. However I know you use only official content as well if it exists there’s probably a homebrew if it somewhere and CR as much as I love it is glorified semi cannon homebrew.
If I were to rebuild Jason using only official stuff I’d probably make him something close to this and I really enjoy that
"Am I a war guy now?" *quiet sobs*
I TOTALLY forgot this channel was like the whole place i found out about Dimension 20 (thanks for that vid btw, huge effect on my quarantine for the better) and then you dropped that reference here. Thank you.
Can I just say, I appreciate the alternate options you go over. It's nice to get a peek behind the curtain every now and then.
Loved the crown of candy reference
Love that crown of candy reference
For his batarang, he uses a GUN!
Honestly, the build has proficiancy in all martial weapons so it could use darts for flavor, they just wouldn't be super good.
Red Hood actually uses pistols as his primary weapon, though. It was just a play on a Smash Bros meme from the Joker moveset reveal. Incidentally, the other Joker was the OG Red Hood.
You could also easily replace Archery for Unarmed Fighting as the chosen Fighting Style if you want to be a bit more versatile in your range. Just be mindful that your punches aren't magical unless you somehow got that one magic tattoo from a recent Unearthed Arcana, which is unlikely.
Red Hood? Nah nah nah. Silver hair. That's my fun little nickname for Anderson Cooper. Now THAT would be a cool build!
I feel like the concept is to alien, doing it would feel predatory, you know?

1:31 actually he did die and was brought back to life when Superboy prime punched reality. The Lazarus pit was a retcon made for the movie because they didn't want to explain Superboy prime when he has no consequence in the story except bringing Jason back to life
So he didnt die and was brought back by the pit. Ok thx
@@umbracolt6364 even in the movie he died. He died in the comics and movie his method of resurrection was just different
Small part of the audience hearing War Guy: I understood that reference!
I feel like Jason was a War Guy waiting to happen. Definitely wouldn't cut it as a Seed Guy
Can we get a Sterling Archer build at some point? curious to see what you would make with that.
Inquisitive rogue lore bard? Low wis, but extra high charisma and slightly low dex good con and strength.
I need the whole cast as a DnD party....

I really appreciate the Crown Of Candy reference
Been looking forward to this build for a while!
My favourite DC character! Thank you Tulok!
Thank You was waiting for this tutorial for a long time
Great job as always! But god, that Undead Warlock build would've been incredible to see in action - he's even got a built-in Form of Dread in the form of taking off his helmet to reveal his Robin mask! Either way though, I honestly went in expecting Gunslinger Fighter, and in both the build and the Alt options, I'm pleasantly surprised. Looking forward to seeing what else you've got in store!
Jason Todd is one of my favorite characters thank you for giving your idea on making him in DnD.
I made my own version prior to this video and you gave me alot of ideas on hiw to reflavor and retool him. I forgot about Gloom Stalker so that may save me a couple of levels.
I honestly though this would be some kind of fighetr/artifer/rouge, but this was so much cooler. I never expect ranger to be a part of it but I'm so glad it was. You content always amazes me!
YES THE BUILD IVE BEEN WAITING FOR
Nice. I was looking for a multi class for Droop the goblin. This has made the path clear. great vid.
I made a knock-off Red Hood for a Spelljammer campaign last year. I like the build you went with, but I personally went with a Variant Human Inquisitive Rogue / Kensai Monk multiclass. My pistols, daggers, and shurikens were my Kensai / Monk weapons and I grabbed the Sharpshooter feat to buff them up a bit. Some of my unarmed strikes were flavored as pistol whips since Jason likes to get personal sometimes. My DM was also fortunate enough to give me a Rope of Climbing that we flavored as a grappling gun.
*GASP* BEST BIRTHDAY EVER. Thank you for this!
Ive been waiting for this
This is my second favorite comic book character ever! Thanks for building him
really really fun effective build, I like it!
Your scripts are so subtly clever, i cant get enough of them
I would like to help the algorithm by thank you for the build! Love Red Hood.

Thank you, I thought I saw something. Went back and then forgot the guys name. Cant wait for that build to come out, let's hope it'll be here sooner than the Anderson Cooper build!
Thanks Tulok, this'll help for an antagonist in my current campaign
The quotes made me smile big time
Honestly I like this build. Tempted to try it myself in the future
Kool thanks for the build.
The cheesecake joke was great. Thanks for the fun build as always!
You should do one for Dr Manhattan or Phoenix
He did Phoenix a while back! It should be on there.
It’s pretty awesome that the initial Red Hood arc took Jason from being hated to beloved. #DecemberTulokRewatch
Nice! Red Hood is one of my favourite characters in comic books, possibly in media in general, so it's gonna be fun to see what you've come up with. My guess is Monk and Fighter will be involved somehow.
Edit: Well, I was completely wrong. I can see how that combo worked out perfectly, I might just have to "borrow" this build for a future campaign, this looks like it could be a ton of fun!
Strength as a dump stat as a 235lb beast, I was skeptical but man I love this build!
"it's perfectly natural to become a war guy" I see you Liam.
Great video! I would be happy to see you busy doing a Baki Hanma build and Yujiro Hanm too. In my opinion it would be fun!
Yas! Good one for sure, one my players wants to do something similar so this is perfect
OH MY GOD THAT WAS A CROWN OF CANDY REFERENCE
Havent watched yet im execited to see it but i want to guess artificer, rogue combo, his highest stats would be dex and int probably and he would use his various gadgets to greater effect in stealth. Plus he always pulls out those pistols when he really wants to throw down.
So cool!
My favorite Dc character ... Thank ,, Tulok ...
My Tiefling Lurker of the Deep Warlock use a Flintlock pistol as Arcane focus ... give from his Patron ... It work make gun into arcane focus
YES FINALLY!
I love the Crown of Candy refrence
"After tragedy, it's perfectly natural for a Ranger to become a 'war guy.'" Shoutout to Liam Wilhelmina, love seeing Dimension20 stuff elsewhere!
I love the little Liam reference
Liam really did get to Redhood levels of Edge. Great build though. Red hood is my favorite robin
Yo the reference to Liam from Dimension 20 @ 4:10 was so slick😂
I can't wait to see Tulok tackle the rest of the Robins and Batgirls, they deserve love too,I'm especially can't wait to see him Tackle Tim as I think he's more an Artificer than Jason but it still makes sense for Jason to be an Artillerist.
Now I'm waiting for Timd Drake
I was honestly thinking armorer artificer, not the guardian but infiltrator, get a ranged weapon you can reflavor as a gun, get good AC, increased movement speed, and stealth, sure Jason's armor wouldn't normally classify as heavy armor, but the infiltrator armor is designed to be a more sleek style heavy armor based on its descriptions. As well as the ability to have multiple infusions on each piece allowing for night vision healmet, boots of elven kind, and plenty of other things.
I think you'd need that level in monk to round things out. Jason Todd is an unarmed monster even if he's not as good as Batman, plus the martial arts feature would let you use DEX for athletics stuff. The red helmet can just be a flavored mask and probably still have some kind of infusion on it
This is actually a pretty amazing build if I say so myself
You know what also starts with an R? Rambo, and it's time for vengeance.
Appreciate that Mean Girls reference.
Tulok I am still waiting for this Bane video
I will say, I didn't know all you were pulling from, but I actually think you could have snuck in some Hexblade Warlock, given his comicbook counterpart actually does have magical Swords called the All Blades, powered by his Soul. Or honestly, the Undead Warlock could have worked with Pact of The Blade, but you're right on the no Fireball thing. Though, to be honest, Jason doesn't really have anything I would call "Fireball" level in character, but I do like seeing my boy shine.
Interestingly enough, I'm playing an Artillirist right now, and could realistically make this build for my Elemental Plane campaign. So...thanks!
Was that a Crown of Candy "War Guy," reference I heard?!?
Finally, the best Robin
I loved this video. 😍 But what about having him take a few levels of Oath of Vengeance Paladin? I mean... it fits thematically 🤷♂️😄
Finally my favorite DC character love the build glad you didn't do undead warlock since the who lazarus pit bringing him back was just the movie reason not the real reason he was brought back granted the real reason is kinda ridiculous eitherway love the build.
"There wasn't any way to get hand to hand combat"
Wait, Rangers don't have Unarmed Fighting in their fighting styles? Tulok, you're using CFV, people can just swap those two around to get what they need off Jason
Agreed. +2 to hit barely matters by LVL 10.
They don't unfortunatly, only warriors do.
I'd allow it tho, definitely not broken.
@@marmato9332
...Paladins have it too, why would Rangers not have it?
@@mikhailthegreatestdragon3627 Paladins don't have it either.
It's a fighting style so both Paladins and Rangers could have it but rules as written only Fighters can.
Isn't unarmed fighting retired anyway?
I have never clicked on a video faster
love the dimension20 reference
Jason is obviously a Mystic dragon rider wtf. This is a fun build
Oh shit got real, as soon as I saw red hood I never clicked so fast.
I’m liking all the DC builds, and for reliable news, go to the DC universe to find Clark Kent! er, I mean.. Anderson Cooper!
I probably would have gone Gunslinger/Artificer, although the ranger is a nice touch, might have tried to fit that in there too. Still, solid build!
Ooh, a variant human. So exciting.
Swarm Keeper's confirmed to be in Tasha's, so once it comes out you should make Squirrel Girl
at 0:34 he shows a build for clay from Shaolin showdown
ok i was unaware of this joke
so im red hood for halloween on saturday and i freaked out when i saw this
Great build, Kensei Monk arguably works better for ComicJason since he was trained by the All-Caste and has the All-Blades for magic weapons.
I never knew I needed something so bad till I saw it....thank you
I think this build could also be used for Deacon St John, hero of Days Gone, with a few adaptations. Ranger covers the archery & tracking, Artificer the crafting of various bombs & bike repair. Still, if you wanted to do an official build for the character, I’d support it. :)
Oh I saw that Clay Bailey title card you sneaky rogue
YES!!!
Liam made a great War Guy but Jason will never make a good Seed Guy.
