Dude when your daughter was holding them and told us what kind of tortoises they were and that she was going to put them in the box? That was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen 🥺😭 thank you for giving us this wonderful wholesome content. That warmed my heart so much!!
I love the way you share information to help people better care for these amazing animals. You do more good for turtles and tortoises everywhere than you know. Thank you for your constant effort.🖤🇨🇦
Very true. I wish I had these demos when I had a turtle I rescued. It would have been soo helpful. (I found somebody who actually raises turtles in order to save the poor thing from my ignorance!😉)
@@kng3785 At least you were able to save the turtle, and find someone to help. The service this family does for the species and those who love them is invaluable.🖤🇨🇦
I bought the same habitat for my two baby box turtles. It’s a great peice of work for the indoor times. We also painted it too to get rid of the cedar wood smell
This is brilliant. I want a tortoise bad. I'm thinking like a testudo. I'm doing lots of research and your channel is helping and educating me immensely. Thank you for all your knowledge.
I have a very similar, but larger enclosure in the same style and it's great for my male horsfield's tortoise. It sits right by my desk and over time, Luka decided not only are people awesome, but now he bugs me to watch reptile UA-cam.
The enclosure looks so nice. My question is how long before the substrate needs changed and the whole process begins again to get all the trees and shrubs correct again?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. It helps the people just getting into it! I am preparing to get a hatchling and have a large plastic container but was considering one of those but was not sure about it holding the humidity. Thank you for sharing. Look forward to seeing more helpful information! . Once again thank you for sharing.
Thank you for this presentation. I just purchased one of those tortoise habitats and needed ideas on how to decorate. Totally love it. Love your videos. Very educational. Love how theres family interaction. Very awesome!💯❤️❤️❤️😊👍
Awesome video! I have the same enclosure, my husband made a stand for mine with storage underneath and for the light stand he extended it with extra wood on the back. I do have to take the light off for feedings and maintenance but it’s easy when you have other surfaces to set it on. We mounted the timer for the heat lamp and uvb on the side of the stand and my baby Hermanns is now over a year old and loves it.
I saw those for sale good idea expecially if they are kept outside. Thanks for sharing now we know about them . I just want to share something I did that has worked great. I bought a above ground on legs four feet by three feet garden or flower box . All I did was buy some safe stick on flooring to seal the bottom after I painted it . Has worked great. Thanks for shating👍👍
1:01 I have one of these and my North American Ornate Box Tool clawed the wood until she got splinters and was all bloody! We had to change to a plastic tub.
I have 4 of these that I use both indoors and outdoors (on a covered porch). They work great for a temporary house while they grow up/until I feel they are big enough to be in a tortoise yard in the great outdoors. I love that you can combine 2 together for some extra space as well! I also did not find the lamp attachment useful and left it off and did exactly as you did and used the zoo med lamp stands instead
I have this exact enclosure for my two baby red-footed tortoises. When I got them they were 36 gm and 48 gm. Today they are 144 gm and 176 gm. The enclosure has kept together well. I mist often. My substrate is a mix of cypress and coconut soil about 2-3 inches deep. They love to dig in it. I like the light stand you have. I must look for that. I will set up an 8X4 enclosure in home over the next year
Nice enclosure, it looks perfectly sized for hatchlings and yearlings. IMO, the windows and available plastic liner make it superior to the Zoo Med enclosure I had for my Redfoot when he was a little tyke. Torticus gives it 3 out 4, because he not sure what's up with that short spotlight-hanger. 🐢👍👍👍
@@hazelholland3921It's much too small for an adult. Even a small species like Indian Star, Russian, Greek, or Hermanns, need a lot more space as adults. It's a great enclosure for young small tortoises as was mentioned in the video. And you can link two of these boxes together to double the space, but even that is probably not enough room for a single adult...
Hahaha!! I looked away from the video for a second, and when I looked back, there was your daughter IN the turtle box!! (@5:29) 😂 I was like..."How in the bleeeeeep?!"
Thank you so much for your sharing. We love your video and your girls so so much. We will feedback on your suggestion on a lamp stand and will update it in future production. Thank again for your valuable suggestion.
Great video. I would love to learn how you guys do maintenance on these terrariums/ indoor setups. Like how often & how much of the substrate you change.. How do you determine if your UVB bulbs needs to be change. Also advise on what to do when they have respiratory infection .. Etc.... Hope you guys will make a video on this.
I had bought this exact setup off of chewy earlier this year, put it together and decided it wasn’t what I was looking for and sold it without using it. I wish the plastic tray came up a bit on the sides to accommodate more wet/damp substrate. Maybe I have such a strong preference towards the Waterland tubs and the attachments that come with it, however this enclosure is a good cheaper option .
Hi it William thank you for the in input on the cedar tarnish home I like this so much I had to buy one myself. Hopefully my tortoises will have their own party or to thank you turtle.🐢
I work in a gravel yard some of our piles of loam and gravel are multiple stories high from stacking with loaders and excavators. Our lot is right in the middle of a huge marsh land area. We get turtles mostly snappers that climb the piles of gravel and loam ALL day long legit hours sometimes takes them 2 days once they reach the top they lay eggs it’s crazy lol out of all the spots they choose the huge piles it’s funny watching them climb the steep slopes with no problem
I have three of the other brand ones just like this but that bottom is such a huge upgrade! It has been a pain trying to waterproof the bottom on these.
I found conflicting info on the use of cedar for tortoises and it potentially being toxic. Would love your opinion on this as I am shopping for enclosures and torn between fir or cedar.
I would love some advice! is this a good enclosure for a baby leopard? I’m getting one next week and I want to make sure I have the right enclosure. Thank you!! 🐢💖
What can I use that’s tortoise safe to weather proof the box? I’m using zoomeds box that’s similar but it’s weathered now. I live in SW FL. Caesar will split and the hardware rusted
I’d recommend just building a pen like we’ve shown in some of our videos out of pressure treated lumber. You can find examples in the habitat builds playlist.
Greg’s turtle haven channel posted a video with this brand tortoise table. He had the same issues with the screws.Interesting that he made drainage holes in plastic bottom as he will keep this outside in all weather. I wonder how it will hold up down in Georgia?
Do you think this could house 1 russian tortoise (about 6 inches)? Is the mesh okay if you put a lamp right on top or do you need to hang it? Appreciate the feedback and love the video guys!
We have this one in our RV and it is great! Unfortunately, we can’t add a second one to give him more room since the bunk isn’t big enough, but it’s been portable and light, and we use coconut fiber sheets as our base to save weight.
Is there a type of tortoise that is small enough to live in this enclosure also when it gets older? I really have one but I don’t have much space so this is as big as i can get.:.
Hi. By your recommendation we purchased this habitat for our Russian tortoise. It is set up with deep enough substrate and all the things needed. It’s been about a month now and every day our tortoise is scratching walls trying to escape. What would you recommend we do?
Any ideas what someone could use that’s nontoxic, for bumpers for the sides of a tortoise houses. My friend has some that bang their shells against the walls of their enclosure.
I have a 6 month old red footed tortoise. Would you recommend this for that type of tortoise? Also, I’ve heard cedar is bad for tortoises. Mind shedding some light on that?
Hello I have the exactly the same house as what you've put together and they are so easy to do I put mine together on my own but I was also told by Google not to use slate in the tank because it gets too hot and it will burn the bottom of the tortoise so please be careful.

Good hint. I’m terribly allergic to cedar smell.
I have box turtles too, also same enclosure… my question is can I use the same Mercury lamp he’s using for my box turtles ??👍🏻 thx
what paint did you use?
so i currently have this exact tortoise enclosure. i got it last september. it is decent for keeping a small species indoors.
