You are amazing. I didnt have any of the tools used in the video on hand but used rubbing alcohol as a substitute and it worked just as fine. Thank you so much.
Thank you for the tips my drift is so bad I’m definitely gonna try this on my next off day. Question tho can I pop off the joystick cap without removing the black cover?
Can 't be positive, but if it isn't engaging the button, there's a chance that the rubber has "rolled" underneath the button and is gettting in th way. You can try pushing it gently sideways, up and down to try and wiggle the rubber back into position. If that doesn't work, you might need to disassemble to get assess to it. ua-cam.com/video/PYiUcXwBxtk/v-deo.html

Second time that I come here, thanks again. I opened my controller and did the same as you and it's working like a brand new one, a tip: calm and calm when you remove the black part
I have tested this process, and I duly award it the Robert Miles Seal of Approval. I used a an air blower as well as 99% isopropyl. For best results, before you push the thumbstick back on, try to work the top of the big conical spring onto the bottom end of the thumbstick. Just press the first coil or two on there with tweezers or a small screwdriver and then just turn the thumbstick around a couple turns clockwise under compression, turning that direction that will open the spring a bit and allow it to work its way up. Then turn it to the proper position and push it into place. I didn't do that the first time, and the spring must have got cocked at a funny angle, because it slightly interfered with the motion of the stick plus made pops and creaking noises. Before you put it back together, it is a good time to clean any other human goo off all buttons and disassembled parts, just to give things a head start on not getting re-contaminated for a while.
I’ve seen this process multiple times from different sources, but watching and hearing things like about the adhesive and watching you take it off gave me enough courage to go in and fix it myself rather than buy a new one. I was like “Fuck it, we either fix it, or break it TRYING, and get a new one anyways.” And holy shit, the “seizure” reading of my stick’s movement is noticeably better. Even when idle, my controller would read the input of my stick like “🔄⬆️⤴️↘️➡️🔂↕️⤴️⬇️🔃↙️🔄⬆️↩️⤴️⬅️↩️➡️🔃↖️⤴️↘️🔁” like it would cancel any sprinting I’d try to do, I’d move backwards while in VR Sword fights, I just ended up dropping VR for nearly a year. In short, THANK YOU SO MUCH for helping guide me with both instructions and courage and confidence to do DIY tech support. You’ve earned yourself a like and Subscriber
"Fix it, or break it trying" is the right attitude, cause if it's not working, what do you have to lose? Great job on getting it back up and running. Thanks for the support.
Mine comes off pretty easily at this point, cause I've taken it apart so often to clean it. If you have a thin flat screw driver, you can work it around carefully. Also, the first time you remove it, there's some black tacky material holding the plate to the cover. Not a lot, but it feels like its stuck. Just use care. Good luck!
I’m gonna try this later and hopefully it works cause I reallly hate drift like really really hate it. Since I was stuck with drift on my switch. Update: so it indeed does work and all I had to do was clean it with a brush and 99% isopropyl alcohol. Also be sure to put back the spring on the joystick or else the touch inputs on the stick will always be triggered
Tbf its better than the quest 1 controllers, i have to peel out the inner ring then remove the oiter ring just so i can take out 2 screws just so i can detach the faceplate

Another great instructional Oculas 2 repair. At least 3 times a week I meet players that experience drift. I sure this video will help alot of people in Pop One ... Thanks Ima_Rainbow
Always appreciate the support.

Just tried this… and fixed a months long problem, for my daughter! She is soooo happy! Thank you!
Happy to hear that! If it ever gets worse and cleaning doesn't fix it, you might try rebuilding the joystick. ua-cam.com/video/mDLT1LdX_ag/v-deo.html
Been struggling with drift for months, although i lack the contact cleaner, a wipedown and the SNES cartrage treatment did the trick, tysm
Dude I gotta thank you, I've been constantly buying controllers on Xbox because of drift and I knew oculus ones would cost more so I wanted to try looking for a solution instead of a replacement, this tutorial actually was super clear and easy to understand, it worked perfectly and I'm actually really grateful of your amazing video. I'm a 16 year old who's awful at listening to instructions and the fact it worked perfectly for me should be proof that this guy knows what he's doing, you've just earned a new sub! 🙏
I'm glad I was able to assist. Great job on fixing your controllers.

Glad I could help out. That's a long time to live with drift.
Oh my god you're an absolute lifesaver, thanks dude.
Happy to help
I attempted to clean the thingy, and it worked. I don't want to live with constant moving in vrchat anymore and this saved me from buying a new thingy or more trouble to contact the Meta help whatever it is.
Thank you
Glad to help you, help yourself. Be well.
I have vrchat and I used to play a lot until I got stick drift and It was unplayable stick drift. I'm so greatful you made this video now I can play with my friends and not drift to the side constantly I appreciate this so much it made my entire week 💕💕💕

A big "MERCI" from France, I thought that my issue was in the sensors and I was lookin g for recalibrate the controller.Surprised that this issue is so common.
You're very welcome. Glad I could help. This is probably the biggest issue everyone has with their controller at some point.
I’ve had drift stick for about 1.7 years and I thought that it was just a permanent glitch until today where my I asked my friend about my glitch and he told me about drift stick. At first, I thought he was making things up until I searched it up and found this video. I did everything like he said except for the compressed air part. I didn’t have any and my mom said she can’t buy me things now since she is struggling with money. So I blowed as hard as I could, and put everything back together. I joined the game, doubtful that it was gonna work. When I realized it worked, I literally started jumping up and down from excitement that can finally play so many games normally again. I want to thank my friend and this video for helping me get passed drift stick. Thank you @Ima_Rainbow!
Great job on getting it working!
Worked for me without the contact spray or brush, Got the compressed air and it works like magic, Cheers!

Glad I could help! That's exactly the right attitude. If something's broke enough that you're gonna have to replace it, no reason not to try fixing it. Great job.
@@ImaRainbow appreciate it!
@Lj-plays-vr I used a homemade mix of rubbing alcohol and water
Works great ! I used brush and keyboard air spray. Only thing I would say is make sure you pull straight up on black cap, don’t “peel” it like opening a can. The top right has a hexagon plastic plug - u don’t want to bend that or worse ! Other than that it works awesome , thanks.
Glad to know. Good work.
Shiii I think I alr bent it cause it's not going in

Thank you for the tips my drift is so bad I’m definitely gonna try this on my next off day. Question tho can I pop off the joystick cap without removing the black cover?
Nope, won't fit through the hole.
Did it work well?
HOLY IT WORKED!!!!! ive never taken apart any electronics but it was so easy and i feel like a pro now lol.
Glad I could help! Good job.
My left thumbstick doesn't click when I press it in, it just feels really mushy.. is there a way to fix this? Very informative video by the way!
@@ImaRainbow well, it does register when pressed, there's just no clickiness like the right controller, you would almost not know you're pressing it in unless you're wearing the headset at something happens
@@victorsvidss Yep, it sounds like something is hindering that button.
@@ImaRainbow that's odd. I was trying to figure out what mechanically is preventing the click, it feels like something got stuck but it's far inside the joystick thingy
@@victorsvidss Only way to know for sure would be to open it up and see what's wrong.
Thank you, your video was short and easy to follow. following the guide almost completely removed all my drift (and i put a deadzone so the little spurts of drift is even less noticable). keep up the good work! ^-^

My joystick is loose and the touch sensor no longer works.
Sounds like you need to replace the transducer. I've got videos for that too. Parts are available on Amazon.
I think this genuinely helped! Although it sometimes has some hiccups at times it is far less aggressive now! Thank you so much for this video!
If cleaning doesn't get you there, you may need to replace the transducer. I've got vids for that too.
I have the worst drift you could imagine on my right controller (makes me spin full speed to the left sometimes, even when im pushing it right) usually nothing I try even comes close to fixing it but this video got me pretty close. Taking the controller apart like this and spraying down in it does seem to stop the drift for a few minutes, but unfortunately it always returns for me :(
Sounds like the transducer has problem beyond being "dirty". Have you tried cleaning it a few times and do you always get the same drift back? You're probably looking at a controller replacement, I have yet to find a replacement transducer on the open market. The controllers are $70. I can try to assist some more if you want to hit me up on discord. Ima_Rainbow#5693
I have the same problem…started drifting after a couple months…the contact cleaner worked for like 8 months but now it only fixes it for like 10 mins every time…and the controllers are all sold out on the website =( any idea how I go about sending it back to oculus for replacement (even though it’s going to be the hardest week or so of my life without VR =\)

@@martinrages Figure I was playing about 20 hours a week for 6 months before mine started acting up on me. (420 hrs is a reasonable estimate.)

Always happy I can help. If you ever need to dig deeper, I just published a complete teardown and rebuild. ua-cam.com/video/d8Mez8Y9a8w/v-deo.html
Thanks for the positive and constructive input. I've never had a problem with spring, but plenty of other folks have and this might help them out.
@@ImaRainbow Thank you for posting this video, it was a big help!
I didn't mess with the spring away all. I left it where it was,, you used alcohol?? Where and how?
Hm. I don't have the "Nail Power" to take the plate off for the first time. Feels like I'm splitting my nail and not taking off the cover.
Good luck!
Thank you, the contact cleaner suggestion worked! Very clear instructions.
Great to hear!
I hope it works too.
@@ImaRainbow thanks a lot. I didn’t know you could take off the black plate to get to the joystick so easily.
