Purchased a 'faulty' quest 2 for a pretty cheap price here in Aus. Turns out the stick drift was just unbearable, the guy wanted to get rid of it. 20 bucks, and your youtube video it was fixed!
Very helpful! Only problem was the focusing of the camera lol, but with the help of another video I was able to successfully take apart, repair, and put back together my controller!!! It works like new!
Great tutorial I was super scared about having to do. this but my left controller had stick drift and it was almost unusable. but I'm glad to say my controller works fine now almost like it's brand new. The only problem I had was unscrewing the screw near the trigger. The Ripon ribbon cable was also difficult but it just took a lot of precision and time but I definitely recommend doing this if ur controller has stick drift.
Thank you for the tutorial, I'm getting my replacement thumbsticks soon. The only thing is that the camera focusing on and off got really annoying to me watching the smaller detail stuff. I just don't understand why tutorials like these don't just use a camera where everything is in focus.
I tried this as well, and while being careful I did not rip any of the ribbon cables, however, I did pull the entire piece off while trying to remove said ribbon. Controller is now useless and I purchased a new one. Be careful guys, the slots are so tiny, and not all are guaranteed to be seated on the board properly, with the ease in which it seperated from the motherboard, it felt like it was tacked only.
@@NarcolepticCanadianFlyer I wish I’ve seen this sooner, cause I’ve just cooked my controller by accident ripping the ribbon cable off the motherboard whilst trying to take apart the grip.
@@myth1kl. I still have the replacement stick for the right side, which is starting to drift as well. Half afraid to attempt it again, will wait until it's alot worse. At least the right one doesn't walk me off building tops.
Good guide, but I can imagine maintaining camera focus was challenging. The fact they require a near complete disassembly to replace a component with such well documented high failure rates across numerous devices, is tremendously frustrating.
Yes, it's unfortunate that it's a complete tear down, but on the upside, after doing this twice, it's pretty easy now and I could do it again in 10 to 15 minutes.
That strap! When I change batteries, I like to remove the strap, wash it in the sink with a little hand soap, then hang to dry for about 10 minutes. It keeps them whitish and takes just a few minutes.
All I’m gonna say is that I had the driftiest of drifty controllers and what I did to fix it was I used rubbing alchohol with a Q tip and put on the joystick and after I blew into it real hard and then it fixed drift. Hope this was helpful!
Before I saw the tutorial I tried to take the face plate off and I got to scared that it was gonna break so now there is a gap between my home button and the plate
Take the other side of the grip off and free the ribbon cable. Makes it simple. I tried for ages to get the cable in but my tweezers where just not up to the job. Not sure why you didn’t do that ? Good vid nonetheless 😊
So I have managed to open controller and the T5 screw driver that is meant to fit all of the screws inside, fits all of them except the to silver ones that are at an angle at the top of the controller. The screw driver literally won't fit inside of the screw, it's like they're a slightly smaller size, a T4 or something...??
R.I.P. The cable that supplies the plug has broken. They are destroyed, at least they were still walking, now they are dead 😓😓😓 I tried replacing parts. In vain.
The pack I opened at the beginning of the video is linked in the description. It is a package of tools and parts that comes with a set of replacement analog sticks.
Hello, I hope that everyone who sees my comment will help me. I am from Iraq and I have a qwest pro. I cleaned the left hand control and the flat strip inside it was torn. I bought the left part from eBay. I know that it does not work, and when I open the control, there is nothing, just cameras and a joystick. It cost me $100. Where can I get one flat?
Do you mean the socket for the ribbon cable? Or part of the ribbon cable? Either way it would mean you'll need more, more difficult to source/match parts.
Repair at that point would likely require a professional, or someone with a lot of experience repairing electronics. Sourcing the exact parts would be potentially as tricky as the repair, however, it would likely be cheaper in parts -- if not more expensive in time and stress.

Those solutions do help, but in the long term, the drift usually returns and worsens.
Nice job.

It's a very difficult angle on some of those screws, I don't think it's a different driver though.
@@substatica it was a different one for me, t4
Yo man I was messing around with the thing the ribbon cable went in and it fell off what do I do??
Good video but your auto focus on the camera needs work. A lot of blur to get thru. Keep making the videos.
the people who made these are sadists, they knew there would be stick drift.

I found a way to fix, my way is that if you know its going forwards try to guess it and go backwards at the second, same with backward
does it calibrate itself or do you have to calibrate it
Good tutorial
I have done it... it works.... but it is a holy fuck :-)
When I installed my new joystick, it only turns me around 180 degrees 😅 pls help
Go into the settings on your headset and calibrate the dead zone on the controller.
@@substatica Thanks! Your a life AND money saver
I use wd40 and it works like charm.
The WD-40 Electronics Cleaner solves the issue for a while, but it will return. Traces on the potentiometer circuit get worn off.

what do i do if the connecting peice for the ribbon cable is gone
does it stll work?
is there any other methods i can use?

is it cheaper to get a new controller or the parts?

What would be a great place to get it fixed
I can't imagine taking it somewhere would be cheaper. They would charge $50-$100 to do anything to it.
