      It's such a great guide! I'm so glad you had access to it. I wish more endocrinologists knew of it and could recommend it to their patients.

    Hi Jillian, new subscriber here. Great job on your channel. I’ve been following Dr. B since I found his book in 1997. I’m about to give the Omnipod a try and I plan to combine it with Regular insulin by injection for my high protein/ low carb meals. My basal insulin requirements overnight are very different than daytime so I either wake up high or have to set an alarm for 3pm and take a bolus EVERY NIGHT. I’m hopeful the Omnipod will do a good job and allow me to get better control overnight.

      @ajnolan7416 Welcome and THANK YOU SO MUCH!
      You've probably been under pretty good control if you've been following Dr B for that long. Good for you!
      I used Omnipod 5 for a bit, but wasn't a fan of the Smart Adjust auto-mode at all! The algorithm just wasn't aggressive enough for me. Hopefully you can make it work for you. If you do have troubles, I'd suggest sticking with manual mode and getting your basals dialed in correctly. Also, please look into DIY Loop with an Omnipod Dash.
      I think it's great you are using Regular insulin with your meals! I've done this off and on over the last few years, but I've been sticking to extended boluses with my pump lately. This is mostly out of convenience, but I'll admit, it never seems to work as good as using R insulin for low carb/high protein meals.
      Please check out my Omnipod Playlist, if you haven't already!!

    Dr Bernstein is NOT an Endocrinologist. I know many believe he is but he isn't. I'm 100%sure about that.

      I did not realize that! Several bios I have read stated that he is an endocrinologist. Thank you for pointing this out!

      @@JillianBoileau I'm aware. Sloppy fact checking I guess. I've also seen his referred to as being an Endocrinologist in a so-called professional intervuew/article/site.

      I guess I should have only went by the information he published in his book. That makes me a sloppy fact checker 🤦‍♀️
      I’ve just read it so many times and didn’t think about verifying it.
      In my opinion, he knows more than any endocrinologist. In fact, I’ve given his book to many of my former endos and none of them seemed like they were going to read it. It’s so sad. They could learn so much!

    Hi Jillian, thanks for the video, Dr. Bernstein really changed my life as well. I was wondering if you can make a video with more specifics on how you combine the Bernstein method with your Tandem pump with CIQ. From your other videos I think you use the sleep mode to make the pump keep you in a tighter range but that’s still not as tight as Dr. B recommends. Doesn’t the pump “fight” you when you want to keep your bg’s a little tighter? If so how do you fight back? So maybe a video about how do you cover a low carb high protein meal during the day would be very helpful. Thanks again for your videos!!

      Hi!!! That’s a great idea for a video! I’ll attempt to get a video on this topic out within the next month.
      So, I don’t use Control IQ on a regular basis, but I do from time to time. It isn’t perfect, but can be used as a tool when you are having a hard time with blood sugar fluctuations or are busy with life.
      The pump does “fight” me when I’m trying to keep my blood sugars lower, but there are a few ways around this. I’ve heard of types 1’s being able to keep blood sugars in the 90’s most of the time on C1Q, but I believe that is with a lot of micro boluses. I have not come close to perfecting this technique. I’ll get started on this topic.! Thank you for the suggestion and I hope I can help and learn something along the way

      Hi, do you use R insulin?

    • @JillianBoileau
      @JillianBoileau  3 місяці тому

      Hello! Sorry, I'm just now seeing this! I have used R insulin in the past when I was on multiple daily injections. Now, with my pump, I use an extended bolus to cover my low carb/high protein meals. It works similarly to how R would.

    I might not listen 2 this to the end so...r u currently following his program 100%? Your last A1c? Pump? CGM? Which insulin r u using? Is your doctor supportive? How much insulin do u use daily? U just saud his wife was a nurse. I'm pretty sure his wife was a psychiatrist.

    • @JillianBoileau
      @JillianBoileau  3 місяці тому

      No I don’t follow his program 100%. I have learned so much from reading Diabetes Solution and use a lot of his recommendations, but I also believe in doing what works best for yourself. Some of his recommendations are too much for me to handle with my lifestyle.
      My last A1c was 5.5. It could use some work, but I’ve had a lot of changes in my life over the last year, so I’m not too upset about it.
      I’m currently using Humalog with the Mobi pump (Tandem).
      My latest endocrinologist is happy with my diet. In the past, I’ve come across several who didn’t even question my diet and were happy with my numbers until I told them I was on a low carb/high protein diet….then they panicked. It’s ridiculous!
      Thank you for all the questions!
      Do you follow Dr Bernstein’s program? If so, how is it going for you?

      I use the Dexcom G6 and I take about 25-30 units of insulin a day.
