My retinopathy has completely halted after 3 rounds of PRP treatments. There have been no major changes in my vision. I have noticed just a little more light sensitivity and issues with seeing at night from more lasers. Thank you for asking! Have you experienced retinopathy? Have you had any PRP treatments yourself??

@@JillianBoileau I was diagnosed with retinopathy several years ago. They haven't done anything though so I guess they felt it's not that bad. I take my health stuff seriously now but like many I didn't always have the knowledge and technology etc to do a great job. Did u watch the Dr B UA-cam about reversing complications? He turned 90 recently.

Is it on his Diabetes University channel?? I know he talks about being able to reverse many complications in his book. Yes, he turned 90 on June 17th. It’s amazing!

@@JillianBoileau I'm aware. Sloppy fact checking I guess. I've also seen his referred to as being an Endocrinologist in a so-called professional intervuew/article/site.

I guess I should have only went by the information he published in his book. That makes me a sloppy fact checker 🤦‍♀️ I’ve just read it so many times and didn’t think about verifying it. In my opinion, he knows more than any endocrinologist. In fact, I’ve given his book to many of my former endos and none of them seemed like they were going to read it. It’s so sad. They could learn so much!

No I don’t follow his program 100%. I have learned so much from reading Diabetes Solution and use a lot of his recommendations, but I also believe in doing what works best for yourself. Some of his recommendations are too much for me to handle with my lifestyle. My last A1c was 5.5. It could use some work, but I’ve had a lot of changes in my life over the last year, so I’m not too upset about it. I’m currently using Humalog with the Mobi pump (Tandem). My latest endocrinologist is happy with my diet. In the past, I’ve come across several who didn’t even question my diet and were happy with my numbers until I told them I was on a low carb/high protein diet….then they panicked. It’s ridiculous! Thank you for all the questions! Do you follow Dr Bernstein’s program? If so, how is it going for you?

I use the Dexcom G6 and I take about 25-30 units of insulin a day.

Yay! I’m excited for you!! It seems like you are talking about an infusion set with an angled insertion. They are called Comfort Short Infusion Sets. If they work with the t:slim, I’m sure they will work with the Mobi. I’ve never used these, but I’d be interested in trying them one day. I’ve read that they are made for active individuals or those with a thinner layer of fatty tissue. Please let me know if you try these out with the Mobi!!

That’s a good point, except that if you send used Omnipods back to Insulet, they will recycle them for you! I forgot to mention that in this video. Sorry about that!

Hi! I almost always insert my Omnipods on the front of my body and I love to sleep on my stomach, so I do lay on the pods quite often. The only time it bothers me, is if I get a bad site and I feel pain right after the insertion. The site stays sore the whole three days and laying on it just makes it worse. This only happens about once every four months or so. Any other time, I can’t tell I’m laying on it at all. These sore sites happen with all pumps for me, not just Omnipod. I’ve never had any occlusion issues that I’m aware of. You’re welcome! Thank you for your support ❤️

The main reason wound probably be Control IQ over Smart Adjust (the auto-modes). While I don’t use this too often, I feel like it’s one of the main reasons someone would get either one of these pumps. Let me know if you have anymore questions!!

Hi! I wouldn’t remove them just because I like to keep all of my medical supplies together. You want them handy for emergencies on the plane or in the airport. Never pack them in checked luggage! I’m sure the auto injections are safe to go through the scanner, but it’s your right to keep them in your medical bag. As far as I know, you can use any type of bag as a medical bag. I’m sure a lunch box is just fine. To be certain, you could call the airport to check their guidelines. Hello! My eyes feel fine now! I’m actually on the second round of treatment now. I had my right eye treated a couple weeks ago and my left eye will be treated on Wednesday. Originally, my doctor thought I’d be good with one treatment, but further testing showed that to not be true. They are hoping this will be the last round, but it’s hard to know for sure. The most concerning thing I go through with these procedures is my sight isn’t quite what it usually is until a couple weeks later. It’s almost like my vision seems a little dull. You just need to remember that it will take time for your eyes to heal and your vision to go back to normal. You will notice some side effects in that process, but everything will be fine if you give it some time. Thank you for the feedback! I’m glad this video was helpful!! Thank you! I’m so used to being connected to a pump! I hardly notice it!! It has never bothered me and I move around quite a bit while I’m sleeping. The thing with the t:slim is the clip doesn’t work well and it tends to fall off occasionally so just make sure you get in the habit of grabbing for it before you get up and you will be just fine 😉 Also, please check out Tandem’s next pump (set to be released anytime now) which will be tubeless and still uses them same algorithm as the t:slim. I take a bolus prior to working out. I dose it right before I begin my warmup. If I workout later in the day, I don’t need as much, but I enjoy working out early. Also, cardio doesn’t spike me as much so I bolus on the lighter side the days I do cardio. Mild cardio, such as, power walking will even drop me a little. Just be careful with the boluses because every workout is different!!! I have this topic on my list of upcoming videos!!

Yes I would love to watch a video about this. It’s so hard esp bc they are both so little I don’t want to over bolus but also don’t want them running in the 300’s while they play.

Hi!!! That’s a great idea for a video! I’ll attempt to get a video on this topic out within the next month. So, I don’t use Control IQ on a regular basis, but I do from time to time. It isn’t perfect, but can be used as a tool when you are having a hard time with blood sugar fluctuations or are busy with life. The pump does “fight” me when I’m trying to keep my blood sugars lower, but there are a few ways around this. I’ve heard of types 1’s being able to keep blood sugars in the 90’s most of the time on C1Q, but I believe that is with a lot of micro boluses. I have not come close to perfecting this technique. I’ll get started on this topic.! Thank you for the suggestion and I hope I can help and learn something along the way

Hello! Sorry, I'm just now seeing this! I have used R insulin in the past when I was on multiple daily injections. Now, with my pump, I use an extended bolus to cover my low carb/high protein meals. It works similarly to how R would.

Thank you for the feedback! The t:slim x2 uses 3 ml t:lock cartridges. They hold up to 300 units of insulin. I believe they are the only cartridges made to be used with this pump. The Mobi will use cartridges that will hold up to 200 units. I imagine these will use the same t:lock technology as the t:slim’s, but I cannot currently find any other information on this.

Hello! The only pumps I have firsthand experience with are the T:Slim and Omnipod 5. The only reason I would mention O5 to you would be because it’s the only company currently putting pumps (or pods) on the market that are tubeless. I love T:Slim for so many reasons and I really think their automated mode (Control IQ) would be a great option for your situation. Since I love Tandem so much, I have to let you know about their next pump coming out….ua-cam.com/video/ZsUmtTvIlvk/v-deo.htmlsi=o9huCD9W-xyAFehV. The Mobi is set to be released in January 2024. It will be tubeless and uses Control IQ. If you can wait, I really think this might be the best option for you. If you can’t wait this long, please look into Tandem’s Choice Program. I also have a video explaining how you can try Omnipod at the same time as another pump, such as the T:Slim, with no commitment it’s linked at the end of my comparison video. There is one more option I have to suggest to you and your family. Have you heard of DIY Looping? It’s not something I have any experience with yet, but I am very interested and have done a lot of research. Please look into it! I am planning on taking this route in the future, but I have some roadblocks to deal with first. You cannot use any pump for this so please research before you get tied down into a warranty. (FYI you can use Omnipod DASH (tubeless) for this process. I hope this is helpful to you! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Yes, you are correct! Tandem confirms this on their website. The cost being $999 was the latest news when I uploaded this video, but now the Tandem Choice program is a much better decision for everyone at only $199!!

Hello! Yes, he does advise against using a pump, however, using one makes diabetes quite a bit more manageable for me in my current situation. I'm a mother with two young children and I can't always get to my insulin and a syringe safely for a correction dose when I need to. I'd also have a hard time pre-bolusing R insulin 40 minutes in advance right now. I've only been on a pump for four years, so I haven't had any issues with malabsorption yet. If it does happen, I'll go back to MDIs. I've thought about taking a break from my pump just to see how I'd feel about it now, but I also really like the flexibility with my basals. Maybe in another year or two I'll give it a another shot!! Thank you for your comment!!

You can have malabsorption too with MDI if you don't rotate sites properly

An injection does not compare to an indwelling infusion set as in 3 days your body begins to reject the intrusion. This reaction is largely absent with injections.

I was starting to notice a slight reduction in my overall vision a few months before the surgery, but nothing too bad. I feel like since the procedure, it takes longer for my eyes to adjust walking into a dark room. It's something that stood out to me in the beginning, but now I hardly notice it. I don't think it has improved, but I've adapted to the change. Thank you for the question!

I had the extensive laser surgery on both eyes due to bleeds before having the procedure done in 1984. That really complicated things. Thirteen laser treatments in the left and twelve in the right. My night vision was very poor and doing anything in low light conditions was difficult. I carried a double A battery flashlight on my belt all the time. Driving on an asphalt road in the rain was terrifying and I would have my wife drive under those conditions. I had the treatment when I was 35 years old and am now 74. Have had cataract surgery on both eyes. Complication with the lens in the left eye, it was repaired and they put in iris hooks in that eye. Left eye does not dilate or contract very much as a result of the hooks which means wearing sunglasses when the sun is shining and being outside. Appears like when you turn the brightness way up on your television and everything is washed out. Sounds contradictory but that is how it is in my case. I have not had to have any further laser surgeries but my field of vision (peripheral vision) has gotten worse so I'll be losing my driving privileges in a few days. Grateful for the treatment 40 years ago or I would have been blind for those 40 years. Vision is adequate for everyday tasks and can still read a tape measure for my wood working. I did not keep near enough diabetes control since diagnosed in 1970. I can say I did not have all the tools and technology as I have today. Currently using Dexcom G6 and Tandem tslim with control IQ. Total game changer as far as control. I will not go without it for ANY reason. Sorry for the not all positive aspects. Stay in control as much as you can is my advice. Good luck to you.

I was wondering, when and why did you switch from insulin injections to a pump? What are the pros and cons of a pump?

@@taylorhughes2380 GREAT QUESTION!! I switched from MDIs (multiple daily injections) to a pump in 2019. I was a new mom and having some issues with nighttime lows. I had just started using the Dexcom G6 CGM a couple months prior to help alert me of the lows, but wanted to take the next step and test out the Basal IQ system that Tandem was offering on the T:Slim pump. Since then, I've upgraded to the Control IQ technology. It's a hybrid closed-loop program that adjusts insulin based on CGM readings. PROS: easier and faster to dose insulin, you can set multiple basal rates for different times of the day, less math (with the help of the bolus calculator), you can use an Automated Insulin Delivery System (depends on pump) when needed. CONS: sites can be ripped out easily, pump failures are scary and can be life threatening, more waste with site changes, getting dressed can be a challenge and so can figuring out what article of clothing to hook the device to. I also get a lot of questions about my "pager". I don't really consider this a true con because I enjoy educating people about my diabetes now. It's something that would have bothered me in the past when I was self-conscious and didn't like people knowing about my illness. I think I'd probably consider the questions to be more of a advantage now!! In addition to this, its so easy to spot other diabetics now and comparing pumps and CGMs can be a great way to break the ice and find someone to relate to as a diabetic!!!

It was just cleared through the FDA and is expected to be released in early 2024. The warranty for my T:Slim expires tomorrow so I will be waiting for the official release date for the Mobi. Hi Jillian, I really got a lot of your video. My T Slim pump warranty is expiring at the end of this December. I have had Type 1 DM for about 50 years with no complications so far. I recently switched DM docs and my current DM doc’s CDE met with me recently to discuss how I am doing. She is also a Type 1 and wears a Omnipod and really likes it. However after watching your video my current thought is leaning towards sticking with Tandem with the hope of switching to the newer Mobi system when it is available next year. I talked with a Tandem rep earlier today who also has diabetes and told me they will help out in the event something goes wrong with my TSlim before I switch the Mobi which will be before my TSlim warranty expires. I agree with you about their amazing customer service. BTW I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes while I was attending SDSU.
