I don't mind the black actor so much as the awful black shrilling sing that Ariel does .... also is it just me or does Ariel's face looks stretched and weird in that trailer??
I have a quick question, like why is Hollywood pushing the woke agenda onto all its movies and show?
No hate or disrespect, but if they see it's not working why do they keep shoveling it out? Why can't they just ignore the Twitter mob, stop race swapping characters, and stop trying to be woke?
If they know that the audience doesn't like it, why do they keep doing it?
That's the question that no one has been able to answer me, honestly.
I've been enjoying the new LOTRs... needs a little more action but the old ones didn't have the best acting either🤷♂️

2nd of all bad media takes your money in order to make more bad media.
Yeah I'll stick with 2nd hand criticism and spend my money on good media.
I’m hardly even doing that part anymore. I’m about as tired hearing about it as I was watching it.
I also believe by sprinkling in all different races, sexes, sexuality, etc... the studios can shield themselves from any and all criticism by immediately crying "RACIST! BIGOT! SEXIST!" when in reality, the product just sucks.
Yeh they just exploit woke to give them a defence from criticism
Facts
The problem is that this tactic actually destroys the world in question. If every species in the LOTR prequels is black, and white, and asian, they all start looking the same. They lose their individuality in the world. If a Danish mermaid in the 13th century is actually an African American - the world looks a lot less like Denmark in the 13th century. If Anne Boleyn is a black woman, she's obviously not Anne Boleyn.
The forced 'diversity' is tokenism, it's lazy, it's racist, and it's the exact opposite of REAL representation. There's thousands of years of black/African history, folklore, and fiction to draw from - and these companies are hundred billion dollar media goliaths - but the BEST they can offer for black/African representation is some random blackface characters dropped into European stories?
They use minorities as shields and it's disgusting. They're the real bigots.
We've seen this exactly with The Rings of Power, Star Wars Obi Wan etc

It’s amazing how Galadriel would be called a prefect example of “toxic masculinity” but yet she’s a prefect representative of how they seam to want woman to act
This is all about gender roles swapping and them using any lie to accomplish that.
And those type of women today poll as most miserable because it is unnatural.
It’s ironic how they don’t actually celebrate feminine qualities, they celebrate masculine qualities in women.
@@fakename3208 Yes, that's deliberate. As to brainwash the people into behaving masculine for women and feminine for men. All in order to stop both genders from being attracted to each other so the western people stop breading.
In Hollywood, Empowered men are TOXIC, and toxic women are EMPOWERED.
I really hate the argument of having to see yourself on the screen. I never ever had to see someone that looks like me on the screen for me to relate to a character in the show. I watch tons of cartoons during my childhood were 90% of the characters don’t look like me and I love those characters more than any character that looks like me in modern media.
This is true. Kids don't have as much of a problem with representation as people think.I'm black (I hate having to state that, just so my point has greater weight..) and the closest thing to 'yearning for representation' I experienced as a kid was that when I was watching ben 10, I couldn't wait to be 10 years old--just like Ben was on the show--because I figured when I was 10 I'd get to do all the cool sort of stuff he did on the show--travelling the country in a van fighting aliens--then the second series came out where he was 15, and I got so pissed, cause 15 seemed like lightyears away at the time...
Maybe you don't need it, but that doesn't make it wrong that other people want to see themselves represented.

I've argued this at other times in other places, but the problem with Big Entertainment is largely a result of them blacklisting anyone who doesn't fully agree with their politics. This leads to groupthink, which is the bane of creativity and means you don't understand entire demographics of your audience. When you don't understand large segments of your audience, or openly despise them, you cannot create a product that will appeal to them. Further, your work gets repetitive and predictable. These stories and adaptations all use the same talking points, so there's nothing really new about them. They're just taking an established IP, slapping it onto whatever fan-fiction tier story they want to write, and expecting people to buy it. But it's not going to work. It can't work indefinitely. At some point, even the people who agree with them are going to get BORED with the stories they're telling. This model is unsustainable.
Blacklisting to groupthink...

Creativity' Bane thy name is Hollywood ✔
The real problem is that it still makes them money. They've figured out a system to crap out garbage content and still have people pay for it.
Disney doesn't give 2 shits about politics, unless those politics are extending their copyright so they can keep milking as much money out of beloved franchises as they can.
If all the movies come out terrible, they can justify underpaying the crew, and CG is cheap as hell for them nowadays, so they hire bottom of the barrel staff to make the thing, dump it on the fx tes to fix up, and stir up a bunch of controversy to make sure enough people warhc it to make a profit.
its not about the money they have unlimted money its about erasing wyite people
That's why they do it. They want an over medicated and under educated population. Literally just consume next product. They demand diversity but will not tolerate and diverse thinking.

The entertainment industry has filled itself with brainwashed weirdos, who cannot write characters who are believable human beings, never mind compelling people. They are utterly incapable of writing women, without resorting to odious excesses of smugness, entitlement, vindictiveness and sanctimony. It's wretched.
It's not brainwashed, it's bargain bin.
They spend as little as possible and deliberately cast actors in a way that'll stir drama and get people to watch it so they make money.
It's all a bunch of low effort cash grabs that'll keep happening while it's still profitable, with the occasional quality thing tossed in to make everyone think they're still trying.
As much as these people like to champion women, I don't think they've ever met one besides the femenist or business types...IE the most unrelatable types of women.
Flash comes to mind
Well said.
In order to write believable human characters, you need to at least have a good understanding of what a believable human is and I'm fairly sure that the majority of people working in that industry rarely see any actual humans, let alone relatable ones.
They are all NPCs looking at each other.
“To see who controls you, simply find out who you cannot criticize”
The idea of inclusion is a sham, a con. Where are the Asians, the Chinese, the people from the Indian sub-continent and elsewhere? What about Latinos who outnumber black people in the States? If you're going to be inclusive how about people of colour who actually come from Africa, rather than the USA?
In any event, the idea of inclusivity is fatally flawed. Inclusive in whose culture? What happened to the trope of Cultural Appropriation - only mentioned when it suits the social justice activists' agenda? History and myth cannot be ignored.
It's all about power and influence. The con is in trying to make it seem as though it's something else entirely.

It's a good thing that Hollywood doesn't need my money anymore.
All I can say is that it's nice to finally see the public (or at least a portion of the public) no longer accepting the unacceptable. It annoys me that those celebrities and movies are lecturing us about moral sacrifices we must do while they sacrifice nothing, morale ideology we must follow while they do the complete opposite. They will continue unabated anyway. It's not about profit. But for every Rings of girl Power' and Little Mermaid backlash there's a Woman King #1 at the box office. Just when I had a little hope for society at large. Sadly there's enough idiots/normies out there to get them just enough return.

True. That is because I haven't watched a single second of Rings of Power. And I also will not watch "The little Mermaid". Because as soon as I do, the Studios earn money and they don't care if I like the movies or not. They earn and can present viewing numbers. I step out of this mechanism and do not watch it at all. No matter how they write and cast those movies and series, it has to stay believable in some form. Even in Fantasy.
This all reminds me of the Wizard of Oz, when the wizard was slowly being discovered as just a man behind the all powerful wizard. He frantically tried to push back at Dorothy and the others, shouting and chastising them, screaming "pay no mind to the man behind the curtain", all the way until it was no use and the jig was up. Hollywood is in that phase at the moment. They were able to get by chastising the audience, using bigotry and guilt tripping, to get their way. All to avoid the big issue: the product is not good. They will continue to kick and scream, call names to their audience in the hope of deflecting the real problem until the very end. The sky is starting to fall, from the poor sales of most recent films, the Emmy debacle, Woman King, Rings of Power, She-Hulk, etc. Once you chase off the majority consumers what's left? We will see a shift in the pendulum back to a neutral center but how much damage will be in the wake of it?

matt walsh said it best regarding the little mermaid thing, "Hollywood constantly changes white characters to black, but when its done the other way its black erasure, this can only be true if they also engage in white erasure, which they would deny".
White erasure seems to be justified by the statement that blacks are underrepresented. Here’s a revolutionary question, though: Are they?

When I was a young lad my two favorite "Battlestar Galactica" (OG of course) characters were Starbuck and Boomer. One was white and one was black, but I didn't think of that at that age and time, I just saw two great characters that I loved. The sad fact is now, when I hear or see that a character has been race or gender swapped, I don't even give that move/TV show a second of my time.
They have brought race and sex into my consciousness, made me hate the IPs that I once loved, and I will never be able to forgive them for that.
Its what Marxism does. Slap people with labels and segregate them.
Exactly right! What gets me is that people act like there's never been black actors/characters before. I don't have a working TV. But when I'm at my parents' house sometimes I'll channel surf. I'm reminded that for most of my life that I can remember (I'm 50+) there were black characters on TV! The thing was, I never noticed or cared because, as you said, I wasn't fixated on anyone's skin tone. I just watched the shows I loved. It's only now that they're programmed us all, whether we like it or not, to be hyper-aware of skin tones, that I'm realizing, oh, yeah, there was The Jeffersons and The Cosby Show and this and that actor on nearly every show. It's sickening what they are doing to adults, but even worse to CHILDREN, who will never know anything different. They are CREATING racists of all skin tones.

No one is being racist about Little mermaid and LOTR. If a series is sh*t people are going to say it. Little mermaid is murky, dull and dark and isn’t even close to the original vibes from the first little mermaid. No one’s seen the movie yet and already know it’ll be crap. Lotr is wrecking a pre established series and beating a dead horse for more money, years after the writers death. They deserve the criticism
On another channel I heard someone say that Hollywood's writers today "cannot write characters because they have no character."
Tolkien fought in WWI and lived through WW2. He saw true hardship and lost good friends. He also lived in a time when Academics was the pursuit of knowledge, where questions and diverse ideas were welcomed.
What is the most difficult thing these young writers and show runners have had to deal with in their lives? I think the lack of perspective and world experience shows. They're mostly, upperclass, white, college educated Americans. They were given the script in college and told never to question it.
The fact that the ones voicing their concerns are large. Can you imagine the sheer number who say nothing and just walk away?
Who cares if some characters in lord of the rings are black? And what adult male is upset that the little mermaid is black?
I honestly don’t care what happens with the little mermaid as long as it’s good, I don’t care if the race swapped her

I like that, a lot! Let’s stop letting woke issues interfere with our lives! Hey, how about hiking a trail and exploring ; getting into the kitchen and making delicious food? Taking up a new hobby. Watching former TV shows/movies that had quality production and talented actors/actresses and story lines. And sitting on the front porch with a cold beer and gazing at a gorgeous sunset?

Hollywood strategy 101 from the late 2010s on. Use "diversity", "inclusion" etc as a shield against criticism of lazy, cynical, unfunny and boring writing.
If there's any positives to the economic recession is that these entertainment companies are going to get hit hard. No one is going to pay premium prices for this mediocre-at-best schlock when they don't even know if they're going to eat that day.

I am not even white. I hold the same feelings about these stupid directions of the hollywood. Their only argument is that they dont like this shit because you are a racist.
They didnt realize, or perhaps we didnt realize either, we can always choose not to watch it at all. Til this day, I still have not watched the majority of Disney's remakes live actions.
They may have been a great company and an inspire to me as an artist. They are now the villian themselves and plays a hero to sabtoge our childhold dreams.
“Coasting on past glories” is essentially the official motto of the entire Disney company nowadays.
I couldnt even finish watching the 2nd episode of the rings of power, and i have no desire to do so.
It's got to really piss the studios off that they can't force you to pay for these film atrocities. When the ridiculous movie 'red tails' came out it was so bad they had to bus school children to the theaters, at taxpayer expense, and sit through the movie. It, of course, was a colossal box office bomb.
Well, that was the first movie with a black person in it so it's understandable.
This is 110% correct! For example I am a Christian Constitutional Conservatarian who LOVES Star Trek! I have friends on Twitter who are socialists, atheists, black, gay, trans, women, etc. who we all agree that NuTrek is garbage! When NuTrek is supposed to appeal to the likes of my Twitter friends.
Glad to hear people are still capable of being friends with people in a completely different and opposite political views as nowadays people treat The Left and Right as literal factions at war with each other
What I ask myself regarding the new mermaid movie: Why don't they give her her own story? Disney has money and wants more diverse characters. So they should create new stories and not reboot the old, already successful ones. Yes, it seems like easy money, but also a proof of low trust in diversity characters. Overmore, I'm sure Asian or Latina girls would be happy to see 'their' version of the little mermaid with their very own movie. Why stop at black?
Actually, there are examples in casting choices that were really strange.
"Snow-White", whose skin is described as "white as snow" in the fairy tale, played by a brown Latina?
Outside of Disney: Apollo 13 (2020) had a black astronaut despite all of the three historical astronauts being white.
As it seems to me, there is no limit. Neither original fictional story nor history seems to prevent that swapping. All because "people nowadays need to see themselves on screen"? In other words: "I can't relate to this character because of the skin colour". I think we used to be more advanced. Don't get me wrong: There should be stories with heros of all skin colours. But they should be unique, not just a cheap copy of already established ones.
If they made Ariel Asian, I'd go wtf? And I'm Asian. I don't need them to change the color and ethnicity of the characters I grew up loving. That fkn offends me.
People can avoid reality but the will not avoid the consequences of that denial!!!! Your comments are great!
It's a formula. Take an established and well loved franchise, "reimagine" it with modern leftist politics and race swapping. When fans criticise it, blame it on racism and misogyny rather than poor writing, casting and complete bastardisation of the original.
Hey, you talking about 2016 Ghostbusters? Of course, you don't! That's sex swapped. :D
James Bond maybe next on the line.
If the mermaids were scientifically accurate creatures they would be a human species separated from the homo sapiens that evolved into the sea life like the whales.

"Negative press is good press."
I don't remember where that originated from, but it still holds true today. The media inflates the negative hype of a new film/tv series, on either side it seems now, and audiences will flock to see it just to see what the hype was about. Either way, the product wins.
It's like George Carlin had said years ago. "Tell people there is an invisible man judging your every move and most people will believe you. Tell them the paint is wet and those same people will have to touch it to see if you're lying." (Loosely quoted)

I think one of the major problems is that over the past two generations at least is that people don't actually read the source material anymore. Let's just focus on J.R.R. for a moment. I read The Hobbit when I was nine. It was 1979. There was the Rankin and Bass animated movie around and that was great at the time but in order to fully imagine the story and the characters, we actually had to use our imaginations. The only way to consume the stories was by reading. The Lord of the Rings, I read much later when in high school but it was still the 80's and there was no film adaptation for these stories yet and The Silmarillion was just a reference book to use to create Dungeons & Dragons quests.
The point being, we had to read. We had to create the visuals in our mind and all we had to go on was the source material, which was and still is more than enough. Now, don't get me wrong, back then we dreamed and hoped that one day, cinematic versions would be created to fully visualize and tell these stories in full scope. I would see that a movie was being made and make sure that I read or re-read the book so that I could compare the book to the movie. It became a traditional routine that broadened the scope of the stories and also to hold the film makers accountable for whether or they did justice to the source material. It was a determining factor of whether or not I actually enjoyed the cinematic adaptations.
Peter Jacksons LOTR trilogy is actually fantastic even though The Scouring of the Shire was omitted. I have actually watched the movies more times than I've read the books. He took an insanely complex story and brought it to life on screen and did the characters and the true storyline justice. There were omissions and some changes but nothing so major that it did not ruin the continuity or the spirit of the source material, even though The Scouring of the Shire was omitted.
The Hobbit is a completely different story. Literally. Peter Jackson destroyed The Hobbit and it was some of the hardest viewing for me to sit through in my entire life. It was also a beginning to the woke agenda that is so prevalent in Hollywood today as well as, a CGI nightmare. Not to mention also that about 10% of the trilogy is actually from the source material. Creative license at it's worst. All of this being said, how many people born post 2000 even understand or would know about any of this? How many millennials or Gen Z-ers even would know that The Scouring of the Shire is a chapter that even exists? How many know who Glorfindel is? or Tom Bombadil? That there was never a romance between an elf and a dwarf? How many can go back to their memory of the source material and contradict what their peers are writing into the scripts and changing classic literature to suit the woke times and agenda that they must press upon us now? I honestly don't think many could because they don't read it anymore. Why would they when you can just watch the movie?
This to me is a major problem of what is being produced today and it expands way further than J.R.R.s works. Star Wars is crap now. Did the writers of Kenobi even see Star Wars before they wrote that garbage? Marvel is falling into a deep abyss of woke agenda and horrible writing to satisfy their need to spread "THE MESSAGE." It is all becoming such toxic garbage that it is unbearable, disheartening and actually frightening to watch. I use the word frightening because of the toxic ideals it is spreading. I managed to get through four episodes of She Hulk and that was just plain torture. I am not familiar with the source material of this nightmare of a series but from what I hear, it is vastly different.
Okay, so this is my rant and I'm going to wrap it up now. I do not mean any any insult to recent generations and I sincerely hope that you take a small bit of advice and wisdom from someone who grew up on books. Just read the books. Thank you. That is all.
P.S. You're doing very good work Dave. Keep it up!
Just to let you know, I read the hobbit again before each release of each movie. And I'm much younger than you (FOTR movie came out when I was 6). I remember I really wanted to see the LOTR movies in theater and my dad insisted that I read the books before seeing them. So that started him reading the books to me at bedtime starting with the Hobbit. He's the reason I read source material so I can contrast to adaptations. We do exist, but I'm probably in the minority on that
@@lori10155 This is really good to hear and you have an amazing father. The fact that he read The Hobbit to you for bedtime stories warms my heart. I'm glad there are people like you who are part of a younger generation that understand. All I can hope for is that you try influence others of your age to do the same and continue the tradition with your own kids. You are correct though in saying that you are a minority, but a minority of the best kind!
@@lori10155 In addition, thank you for taking the time to read my post! I know I got a little long winded there.

I can't stress this enough, the source is almost always better than the original except in some rare cases. TWD comics were better than the show, invincible isn't as bad as TWD in that regard but I'd still take the comics over the series unless I want to see what new scenes they added.
I think the point that needs to be pressed when it comes to criticism of fans for their ‘racist’ agenda is that there is a complete lack of respect and understanding of the status that Tolkien’s work has for many.
It’s well documented that Tolkien’s objective with Middle Earth was to create a mythology for England, that having been destroyed or bastardised by the Norman invasion in 1066. In my opinion, he succeeded. Tolkien’s work was profound in both depth and complexity, but most importantly, in morality. There is so much to learn from Tolkien’s stories in respect of fellowship, love, trust, how to respond to struggle etc, I find myself quoting it or considering it whenever contemplating my own behaviour or life decisions.
For this reason, I believe Tolkien’s mythology takes on a religious quality for many. I’m not saying the books are holy or anything of that sort, but I’d venture to say the stories and mythology are of so much importance to readers that they are sacrosanct. I mean, what _is_ a mythology if not a steer for how a people is expected to behave? It is this attachment that is most injured by recent attempts to twist or change Tolkien’s work, or indeed suggest that it was rooted in racist attitudes of his day. By disregarding this strength of feeling and attachment that Tolkien’s readers have of his work, Amazon has produced a perversion that disregards this importance, but worse, disregards the objective of J.R.R. Tolkien.
Big Media doesn't care about something's origins; it only cares about its influence and how it can be used in their agenda. In that, their shortsightedness and condescension to their audiences is giving them more trouble than any positive moral obstacle.
Tbh the only reason I’m watching she-hulk is because daredevil is supposed to be in it.
Why would I consume the new product when Disney already released a superior older product decades ago?
All of their live action remakes don't bring me the joy I get when watching the original animations.

As for "The Little Mermaid," Disney is free to do whatever they want with their own creation. If they want to reject 30+ years of promoting and marketing Ariel as looking a certain way, then they're free to do so. Just as Coca Cola was free to ditch their iconic product for New Coke. I watched the recent little mermaid trailer that so many people are angry about. So what exactly makes it woke? Is it because the actress has slightly darker skin than she does in the cartoon?
