I remember these guys from their Molesting the Decapitated days. That is when their drums sounded like hitting the side of a Cheerios box just to see how much Cheerios was left. This one rages.

Nickenator8 Devourment's first album was slam for sure and few ones after that too. This is a bit different, but I'd still call this slam and who really cares anyways. The music is great

For non metalheads it's hard to believe that you can relax while listening to this kind of music. But for me heavy music is always a way to let the anger out but I also get that it's not everybody's taste. Thats okay at least you should listen to whatever you like.
Not a metal head myself but every genre from the Extreme Metal umbrella make me calm and relaxed

Never even heard of these guys before today but you're right there's something to the tempo or melody that makes this totally chill for death metal but at the same time intense and bad ass and totally aggressive.
there's an article in the scientific journal Frontiers called Extreme Metal Music and Anger Processing that corroborates what we've all been saying for years

loving the straight forward, groove oriented sound on this song
I think Defeated Sanity's "Chapters Of Repugnance" takes that crown, personally. The production was dirty but just clear enough, AJ's vocals are beast, the drumming is absurd, the basslines were clear and accented the atonal guitar playing perfectly. Don't even get me started on how the hell they figured out some of the signature/tempo changes. Really solid group of musicians.

I hate how people complain about the "lack of slams" in their newer albums. Quit your bitchen Devourment pioneered that shit they can do what they want with their style.
For real man, tbh the more sparing use of slams makes them sound so much more brutal and crushing
For some reason this gives me flashbacks to when I first listened to Cannibal Corpse

that's interesting, I always figured slam came after deathcore just because it was so much more extreme. you learn something every day
Slam started shortly after brutal death metal was made and yeah, a lot of oldschool deathcore bands used slam riffs so it can mislead you.

Don't mind me, just having my daily dose of SLAM.
In terms of musicianship and creativity blending atonality and melody, DS is the pinnacle of it in every regard. I've heard Abominable, but honestly it just sounds like a better produced version of the same stuff that has been around since the early 90's. I felt Chapters Of Repugnance was a really original release, pretty unmistakable sound.
