that lyrics, from the early 90ies, are still conspiracies for a lot of people in the 2020ies !! ruhe in frieden, lieber chuck (see you live, at the "full of hate"-tour, in summer1993)
I was only 6 years old when I heard this album. Which was about 2003. I was going through my older brother’s CD collection when he wasn’t home and this was the first album I picked up. Put it in the CD player, and I was blown away. I remember it clearly. I was a fan of Death and Metal pretty much my whole life. 23 years old now, and still going strong with my love for Death!! I’m extremely jealous of the people who got to see Death live back in the day. You are all truly lucky and must’ve been kick ass. Sad that I will never get to attend a Death concert. R.I.P Chuck and Sean
Amen brother. It’s sobering for me to read that. I did get to see them on this tour and individual. Also met Sean after a cynic show. I can say even then you knew you were seeing something special, but I wish I appreciated it more. They were the tightest live metal band at the time.
I find his vocals enjoyable and interesting to listen to in all of his work. Pretty amazing package when you add that to his technical guitar playing and compositional skills.
I've always been a thrash metal kind of guy. I've recently submerged myself into Death and now I have a whole new appreciation for death metal. I had a pretty bad stereotype in my brain about death metal and Chuck really fixed that! Stay metal dudes.
What stereotypes did you have? Dig into the other unique bands early recrods that bring something specific to the table like Autopsy (Death's first drummer's band), Incantation, Suffocation, Demilich, Blood Incantation (recent band but they are astoundingly original and fresh), Dismember (for having obvious melodic parts tastefully laced into their savagery). There's a plethora of other crucial bands but those should be enough to get you wanting to keep on exploring IMO.
Jordan I honestly thought it was going to be meaningless lyrics with repetitive guitar riffs with no solos or musical talent. obviously I was wrong and love it
Well that's awesome. In my personal opinion its possibly the most varied and intricate genre in metal but that's partially because I love the rhythms and raw, crushing production styles that sound primal/cosmic. If you ever need some recs just ask!
Jordan hey man can you recommend me some good death meta?, I don't really care so much for the gore/brutal aspect of it, meaningful lyrics and riffs that go well with it, thanks!
@@sheldoncooper8199 Pantera did something new too dude, genres like Nu-Metal, Groove Metal and heavier riffs and vocals in general wouldn't be around today if it wasn't for them
this band used to stand out of the crowd of the death metal scene. Lyrics are mature about human psychology, music is so marvelous, the brutal voice of Chuck expressed pain, melodies are mind tripping, each one band member was so ridiculously talented.
Same been listening to metal here and there since middle school but didn't get INTO it since about last year . So many crazy Timeless bands that are melting my mind. Heard necrophagist last week.
RIP Sean. Your drumming helped refine me as a metal drummer. Your precision and discipline on the instrument. You stood alone. You made even the simplest fills sound like the way they were meant to sound. Only you had that unique feel. Dynamics, power, speed, precision, heart.
Well said Chris. Sean will be with us forever in our hearts and mind. he kicked it too the next level as you described it fully in detail his awesome skills in drumming but mainly a super down to earth person who i meet twice.

Right!? The bass lines are out of this world. I remembering buying this album when it first came out and thinking what an incredible transition for Schuldiner but the bass wasn't as audible.... Hail Steve Di Giorgio👊
Is this the remaster? It only says reissue (which would imply its not remastered) but I seen to remember barely being able to hear the bass in the original mix, but it's super clear here
WeWantYouToStay I'm pretty sure its remastered because Scream bloody gore's mix is the same with the bass pretty loud and high in the mix compared to original that you could just about hear the bass. not positive tho.
I'm nearing my 50s...yet I have rediscovered the sound of Death... Refreshing as it was back then when I had my first leprosy album... Listening without prejudice. Chuck, deeply missed.
Human was the first death album I heard when I was fourteen. It blew me away! I was barely getting into heavy music then and once I found Death, I never was the same!
Flattening of Emotions. What a masterpiece of a song to start this violent rollercoaster into the bowels of metal...and what a legacy Chuck and Death left for us. Blessed to have lived during his time and enjoy a band that evolved into a technical monster that is overshadowed by none other than themselves.
So sad to hear about Sean's passing... One of the best drummers metal has ever had... Godspeed my friend... Say hi to Chuck for us, ok?... you will be dearly missed.
This album is , arguably, one of, if not, THE greatest technical death metal albums ever made. Chuck Schuldiner… Sean Reinert…Paul Masdival… Steve Digiorgio… all masters at their craft. R.I.P Chuck… taken WAY too soon😔
I actually prefer Individual Thought Patterns slightly to this one, but that doesn't mean I don't consider this one of the best metal albums ever. Symbolic is a masterpiece. I think if they would have mixed Steve's bass the way it was intended to be this one would maybe be my favorite.
This Album started the all technical battle!!! Even Gene Hoglan said it was only after hearing this album he started to incorporate his jazz influences and technics in Metal drumming.... Human is a legendary album Sad that a lot of new very gifted kids dont know this band.
Fuck man, everytime I come back to this album, I remember high-school me plucking this off the shelf of my local FYE in 2009 and being totally unprepared for the life altering course it took me on once that cd hit my little Sony boombox. Chuck is still the GOAT to me all these years on, and all the talent he brought along with him made Death the gold standard of the genre. To this day a profound source of inspiration to the music I make.
Probably my 20th time listening to this album... never noticed how much "See Through Dreams" slams at 23:34 or how bodacious that solo right before it is. That's the real sign of a classic. Every time you spin it there's new appreciation for parts you missed the first couple of dozens of spins through.
RIP Sean. An absolute monster. The best Death record, and Cynic would not have been the same without this guy's chops. This man literally changed the metal drumming landscape forever.
I just want to point out that this is probably about the best death metal lead guitar you will ever hear anywhere. The technicality. The phrasing. The feeling. Chuck was a visionary and virtuoso. You don't hear guitar solos like that anymore, if you hear them at all... The rhythm section's brilliance speaks for itself as well here.
Death is the only band that I struggle with deciding what my favourite album is. I have some that I prefer over others but narrowing it down to one is next to impossible for me.
I've listened to them all and I like 'Human' and 'Individual Thought Patterns' the best because these two are just so fucking brutal and ferocious. I got 'Human' ahead by a hair because the songs are more catchy and enjoyable. I also prefer Chuck's vocals on these two albums because he sounds like a fucking lion as opposed to an emo girl on the final two albums.
You know you've reached middle age when you're listening to a 25 year old album at a reasonable volume in your living room. Yes, even if it's death metal.
Ok, I think i have a problem with this album, i like it too much!! Since it's release, i abused of at least 2 cassettes and 3 cds, they all died of exhaustion. 30 years later, i still listen to it AT LEAST once a week, it's like i'm possessed by it! I'm sure if i have childrens, their first words will be "Human"!
FAREWELL SEAN! You set the bar for Progressive Death Metal drumming bringing different influences to the game, super creative and incredible musician. Our songs wouldn't be the same without your contributions to music. Give a listen to Human and Cynic today... RIP Master!
Me and Chuck were in the same high school. Lyman in Longwood. Suburb of Orlando. A year a head of me i saw him in his MANTAS cut off jean jacket...awesome
My favorite death metal album of all time. I still remember my jaw dropping the first time I heard it. Everything is amazing, the riffs, the arrangements, the bass, etc... but what caught my attention most was the incredible drumming. RIP Chuck and Sean.
Anyone who's thinking about writing a metal album : take notes ... This is the Dead Sea Scrolls of music right here ... a Bible for those attaining higher writing abilities. Wonderous ... Magical ... Dimensional ... Inspiring ... Thought Prevoking ... Incredible. Even the Basslines are a " life changing " experiance, LISTEN !!! " Suicide Machine " … listen to the bass and Chuck's vocal placement …
When I first heard Sean behind the kit,I could hardly believe that such complicated patterns were incorporated into metal drumming.Sometimes it almost made me quit drumming, but fortunately I didn't.Sean was and still is one of the drummers that I will always look up to and pay homage to.Keep on drumming on the other side, brother.🖤
Never heard the remastered version before. I've got an original CD pressing and it sounds a lot flatter in comparison. This is one of the rare cases where I think a remastered album sounds better than the original.
Yup, this is a full on remix done by the legendary jim morris of morrisound. The same studio where this album was recorded btw, which is why this sounds a LOT better than the other poorly done remasters and remixes
Though I've never met Chuck personally, I do miss him so much!... Imo, he was also the most influencial person and human being in extreme metal, redefining and shaping death metal, album after album and creating not just music, but new forms of art. RIP Metal Brother!

[Solo: Schuldiner]
Close your eyes and imagine to be without
What we take for granted every time we open our eyes
A permanent shadow to never step away
Feel the dark in the cold
Feel the warmth of the light
Which has been denied
Hands change into my eyes
Body senses intensified
Sight so close yet far away
In dreams my thoughts take their form
To give memories identity
Through dreams I obtain
The ability to connect sight with sound
7. Cosmic Sea
[Instrumental]
[Solos: Schuldiner, Masvidal]
8. Vacant Planets
Mysterious object of flight on a voyage
To correct what they have done, what we are doing
Perhaps submerged, living in the inner most
Recesses of the planet - no choice but
To adapt to an underground world
Limiting our passages of thought
Are they the examples of regression
A life form's abusive progression
In a realm so vast, we sit among the Vacant Planets
[Solos: Masvidal, Schuldiner]
So many worlds yet to be seen that once have shared
The same effects that come from greed, mass production
Perhaps submerged, living in the inner most
Recesses of the planet - no choice but
To adapt to an underground world
Limiting our passages of thought
Are they the examples of regression
A life form's abusive progression
You sir, are the real MVP.

I’m a bit of a Death geek and a bigger Human one, and I can 100% say that there’s no Masvidal solo on Suicide Machine.
that lyrics, from the early 90ies, are still conspiracies for a lot of people in the 2020ies !!

Bravo
Hands down one the best metal albums of all time
Up there with Rust and Follow the Reaper.
Lack of comprehension, Suicide Machine, Secret Face, Flattening of emotions... What a great album Human is.
together as one too
Juan Carlos Sevinones Vacant fucking Planets, Cosmic Sea; all the songs are magnificent.
John Melgoza
I mean that these songs are my favourites.
Even the kiss cover is fuckin great
Do you even See Through Dreams and Vacant Planets?
That drum Intro at Flattering of Emotions is one of the greatest drum intros i ve ever heard

I’ve always appreciated how intelligible and crisp Chuck’s vocals are. Always lyrically interesting, always musically pummeling.
Mayank Dastane kalmah And amon amarth both melodic DEATH Metal
Chuck Schuldiner was one of the biggest geniuses in the history of metal!

this band used to stand out of the crowd of the death metal scene. Lyrics are mature about human psychology, music is so marvelous, the brutal voice of Chuck expressed pain, melodies are mind tripping, each one band member was so ridiculously talented.

So true. Probably on my 20000 listen and still hearing new stuff.

What an absolutely perfect album, a masterpiece in every sense of the word.
