    This is by far my favorite tetra. I've ordered in bulk from online sources and had 75% die off. I just ordered 17 platinums from you and only lost one. I was surprised to find 17 little individually bagged fish, definitely worth the extra price.

      I bet they dose a small bit of Prime in their water too or something before they ship it. Very well done it sounds like. Sounds like a great company TBH. I just got back from a local store and they had ammonia burn on all of their rummynose.

      @@brandhark7935 I believe they have a video of their packing process. They seem to give the same care to a $7 tetra that they give to a $150 pleco. I met Dan at a convention once and he's genuinely passionate about what he does in regards to fish health and quality.

    Not enough green on Dan's head and face. I hardly recognize him looking all human like this. I loved my rummy nose tetras when I had them. They were great to watch zooming back and forth in the 90.

    Love the species rating format, would love to see more of them! Rummynoses are a fish I only started keeping in the last year, and they really impressed me with their behavior and overall presentation in the aquarium.

    About 5 pm each night, my rummynose tetras start schooling tightly & fast, back and forth, at the front of the tank, with their heads tilted up at the exact same ~30 degree angle against my filter current for about half an hour. A sight to behold. ❤❤❤

      Usually for shoaling fish you'll want six as a bare minimum, eight to ten being preferred if possible
      For tank size, assuming that's what you meant, it can vary, but I'd say a general rule of thumb would be at least a 20 long for most small (1-2 inch fish like most rasboras, danios, and smaller tetras) and at least a three foot tank for more 'mid-sized' species (closer to three inches like larger tetras, barbs, and livebearers)
      Hope this helps!

    Buy them from a good pet shop or online dealer. Mine our 2 to 5 years old. I buy a few every so often and that way they adopt very quickly with my older group of rummies. I do small water changes weekly.

    I started fish keeping about 5 months ago, I have (I'm told) had a better than average beginner experience than a lot of people.
    Initially I had a Beta which I transitioned into a larger tank. Within a couple weeks I added raspora and neon tetras, finally a school of rummy nose. All was well until for some reason the beta died. I waited and watched my tanks before replacing it 2 weeks later. This time around I noticed almost immediately the rummy nose were territorial, fin nipping and aggressive to the new beta. So bad was it I had to get a fry net to keep separate whilst I cycled an additional tank for separation. In the time the beta was in the fry net the rummy nose would constantly attack the net like a shark cage. Every thing is now tranquil again with the beta out of the aquarium, but from this I would really be hesitant to add fish to an existing tank where the rummy nose have already established territory. Beyond that they are a stunning fish which I thoroughly enjoy.

    I find mine to be a good cleanup crew. It's a species only tank so far, but at least when undisturbed they swim about the substrate and pick up any leftovers. I'm a bit bummed out about them blending in with my light substrate (my own fault, but there will be a carpet anyways). But the coordinated swimming is great. They really give something to look at all the time. I do find that a varied diet is best though, after giving some peas to help with a bladder issue they really coloured up and got even more energy.

    • @DansFish

    Not sure how most fish peeps are when they hit new fish. I have a 10 gallon quarantine tank I hold fish in before putting them into my display tank's. How many would be safe? I have a 40 gallon breeder so even if I have to buy 2 separate batches and quarantine each..I'm willing to do that.

    • @DansFish
      @DansFish  7 місяців тому

      How many in 10 gallons? It depends on how the 10 gallon is setup, but I think you could get 10-20 in there for quarantine as long as the tanks ecosystem can digest the amount of food you would feed them. That's the real variable.

    It is an incredible, beautiful and shoaling fish. But I regret getting it because my aquarium doesn't have a lid. I started with 15 fish 3 months ago, today only 6 rummynose. OMG. That's it, buy a lid. I have other tetras, black phantom, serpae, red phantom and they don't jump as much as rummynose
