      @@davidthompson7233 - I have been waiting for this game and couldn't find it anywhere until recently. It arrived at my house earlier this week and have been playing it since it arrived. Great game design. I wasn't 100% sure how it would play and if I would like it but I find it very engaging. It is better than I thought it would be and my expectations were already kind of high when I first saw this review. Anyway, great job and thanks for making this game.

    The artist is Albert Monteys, a very well known Catalan comic book and cartoon creator. In the English Speaking world he might be better known by his adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse 5".
    I'm sure he would be quite pleased to be compared with Tintin 🙂

    I loooove this game. It’s a 9.5 for me. Such slick card play, and it’s the perfect length for the type of game it is. Glad to see a fitting review!

    I definitely want to get this game, I've got an idea of setting up almost like a campaign where the government has like a point total to reach to overthrow it completely, where games contribute to that total. A minor victory would be 1 point, and bigger victories would be worth more, whereas losses would subtract points and so many losses or perhaps not reaching the total in a certain number of games would cause the resistance to completely collapse. Would add a sort of connection across multiple games I feel and add a new level of depth to deciding whether to just take a minor victory or push for more. Making me excited just thinking about it, definitely ordering this as soon as I can. Thanks for the recommendation guys!

    I picked it up when I heard good things about it and very happy I did. Already really enjoyed the first game and it gets better every time I play. The drafting is so exciting, picking your team with which you're going to try to push as much as possible. Love it! Card quality is indeed the only minor thing, it's not that bad really but it does detract a little bit.

    Hey, great to see you guys showing this little game!
    "Maquis" has the stress when pronounced on the "ah" sound, not the "e" ant the end.

    • @JorWat25
      @JorWat25 Рік тому +1

      Wikitionary says both are acceptable. Technically, as it's a French word, neither syllable should be stressed.
      EDIT: The OED also says both are acceptable. In fact, it says that only the 'ee stressed' version is used in the US.

    I only played a few times but found the game very depressing. You often have to choose to sacrifice civilians and/or maquis to barely get by. The mechanics was mostly doing addition/subtraction to see if you succeed or not. I rarely able to add more maquis into the deck which finally did it for me.

    You didn't say how you get those extra (more powerful?) cards into your deck. Also, can you get back cards from the right discard pile and how?

    • @DTChrisYi
      @DTChrisYi Рік тому +2

      Some of your maquis powers and the enemy cards you defeat can affect the revealed cards discard pile, recruit new cards, and gain or get rid of spy cards. Very neat effects, but I didn't want to over explain the rules. Hard balance to know how much to explain to get a feel of the game without teaching everything.

  • @victorgonzalez2927
    @victorgonzalez2927 8 місяців тому

    The color is counterintuitive to the ability. The hidden side is lighter while the revealed side is darker. Same holds true when looking at the spy cards.
    Doesn’t make sense to me.

      Interesting point! I'm not sure if there's some symbolic reasoning to it, but for me the illustrations more than make up for it by making the difference clear.

    Really, Mike? You're docking a $20 game because the cards were thin?! Small publisher, campaign ended in June. Game was received in September. Even with the errata, that the publisher is so small and print so limited, financially it wasn't feasible to correct a single card.
    I'd give it a plus half point because it's about the game and not the excess.. ahem... Everdell... cough ..

    • @DTChrisYi
      @DTChrisYi Рік тому +9

      I think Mike explained his points about the card quality well. I have a ton of respect for the company pulling off a great and quick campaign, and we even had a great time meeting several of them at Essen. Ireally like the company, but the review is for people wanting to know about the quality of the game. Things like card quality are important in a game that's only cards, whether from a small publisher or large. Many people watching don't know Salt&Pepper from Asmodee and don't particularly care, so it's important viewer's know some of the shortcomings too.
