RIP to a legend. Great song don't forget to like it up 👍
In second grade I got a tape player and few cassette tapes, this was one of the cassettes.
JayveeTV please react to Lucille
I liked it!!
@@robertcherman On my 10th birthday my favourite gift was the Best of Kenny Rogers cassette.
👍 before I ever watch- 💛❤️✌️✨ Great song right here, with much deeper meaning than gambling, as the surface might imply- love it!! ✨
The gambler is using poker to give life advice. That's what makes it a good song.
Yeah, I always thought it was a metaphor. You never count your money when you're sitting at the table could be advice to not become complacent in life even when times are good. As long as you're alive the game is on and there will be ups and downs. There'll be time enough for counting when the dealing's done could be a way of saying when you die THEN you can take stock of your life since you'll have all eternity to do it.
Absolutely! Great life advice! 👍
For the longest time I thought this song was actually about playing cards. And I realize it is literally about life❤
@@flibber123 my grandmother said gambling is a good metaphor for taking chances in life at certain times you have more chances of failure but you have to try and take a chance to see what happens
Yeah
FUN FACT: "The Gambler" was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress for being "Culturally and historically significant".
David coming in clutch with the Fun Facts!
David Rose
Well done with the “Fun Facts”, I look out for them on every Jay upload ✌️🇦🇺😊
kerryn67 Thanks so much.
David Rose
Keep it up my friend, I love learning something new every day ✌️🇦🇺😘
kerryn67 thank you so much
He has another one called ‘Coward of the County’ that’s a great story song. A little heavier subject but it’s great, too.
I know Kenny Rogers because of my dad, this song always reminds me of him.
Edit - not that my dad was the coward of the county 😂 he just liked this song.
Yes!!! Play Coward of the County. !
Kazza 8240
My mind goes immediately to my Dad when I hear Kenny as well. Sounds like both our Dads taught us well 😉
@@kerryn6714 😊 💛
I just made a comment and then saw that two people had commented the same thing. I love that song, coward of the county.
Please listen to an earlier song of his called Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town.
Yes when he sung with the first edition before he went solo
Ruby was my favorite when I was just little girl
J's Coffee Talk
It’s still my favourite now. Well, it’s equal with “Lady” 😁
Yes, Always been a favorite of mine.
julio down by the schoolyard
You’ve got the best profile name ever! 👏👏👏👏👏
A point I like to make about this song. When he says “you never count your money when you’re sitting at the table”, he is speaking in metaphor. It means “In life, your wins and losses are temporary. If you are down, you can come back. If you are flying high, you can come crashing back to earth.”
All of what the Gambler says is a metaphor. That's the point.
Although I don't think this is necessarily what this song is about but my grandmother said life itself actually is like gambling not necessarily with cards money or games but with taking chances in life you might succeed and you might failure but you have more chances at certain times. Like when you gamble you might win but you can have more of chance of failure hence every hands a winner and every hands a loser. So gambling can be a metaphor for taken chances and challenges in life.
Please react to “coward of the county.” And this song is much more symbolic and deeper than just literally gambling- if you listen again, it’s about the game of life- The man in the beginning gave him some valuable, sage knowledge, before “fading off to sleep”... forever- 💜❤️✌️✨
"Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town" is a great Kenny Rogers song
Please react to “Coward of the county” if you want to hear a song that really tells a story. Love your reactions... keep ‘em coming!
The first song I heard from him was "I Just Dropped in to See What Condition my Condition Was In". 😜
Love that song
Hi javaughn. It’s not about gambling really. It’s a metaphor about life.
My mom used to give speeches to College Marketing/Sales classes and she always played this song to give the students a different perspective on which battles to fight. Such a great song and one of the most memorable voices.
I remember the comeback back in the day. Someone bummed a cigarette, then asked for a light. You'd look at them and ask "You want me to smoke it for you too?" 😊
This song brings back memories as a kid. Kenny Rogers had a voice that should impress a lover of any genre
Listen to "Coward Of The County" or "Islands In The Stream" with Dolly Parton.
If you didn't catch it, The Gambler dies in his sleep. "Then somewhere in the darkness, The Gambler he broke even, and in his final words I found an ace that I could keep."
Love Kenny singing Lady, but the "Gambler" and "Islands in the Stream" with Dolly Parton are also a favourites.
I love Islands in the stream. His and Dolly's voices are perfect together.
Gambling as an analogy for life in general. Know what to value, know what to let go, know when to stop, know when you're over your head. Every situation can hold the potential for advantage or disaster, depending on how it's worked with. But when life's at its end, it's good if you don't panic about it, and passing in your sleep makes that work.
When the Gambler "Broke even" in the darkness, he died that night, as Kenny made clear with the line "and in his final words I found an ace that I could keep."
Next good song from Kenny Rogers - coward of the county .. 😎👍
In his interviews that I have watched, he would often say that he didn't consider himself a good singer but he did considered himself a good storyteller. Enjoyed your reaction, Jay. Thanks! Take care and be well. Peace.
This whole song is a metaphor for life. The whole thing. Listen to it again carefully.
He did a version of this on the Muppet Show that was also great. Check it out on your own time.
Yup, I was going to suggest that.
"she believes in me" is a beautiful song he did ✌️♥️
This song is such a great metaphor! “You gotta know when to walk away and know when to run.” It is so true! If you are going to play the game of life, you have to learn to play it right. Such truths with his sage delivery..RIP
Checkout one of his older songs from when he was in The First Edition, “I just stopped by to see what condition my condition was in @
Not only is Kenny my music hero, i'm 31 from Melbourne, Australia and I got to see him live at the palais theatre i'm so grateful i got to experience him live meant so much to me,

I'd personally request more but i appreciate what you'll give us with Kenny, Thanks bruv

Doesn’t deserve any thumbs down, these are classic songs from class artists 🇬🇧
I love 'You Decorated My Life' from Kenny Rogers.
Love everything Kenny Rogers did, but Lady and "You Decorated My Life" oh and "Lucille" are three greats
You have to react to Coward of the County!!!!
I had heard somewhere Kenny didn't think he was that great of a singer, but he could tell a story like no one.
What a great song by Kenny Rogers. He was a great story teller. This one used the metaphor of gambling to share some life lessons with the younger man. GREAT song! GREAT reaction!

Ah yes, a classic
This song still fills the dance floor in Glasgow UK 🇬🇧
Loved your reaction. Love this song. You must do coward of the county. It’s another great storytelling song❤️😀👍✌️🌼Love and peace
I love all his songs but this 1 is my favourite
Love Kenny Rogers....such a unique voice and man 💗. Heard no bad song by the man 💯🔥
This is my fav by Kenny R! I LOVE the build up in this song:AWESOME!!!🤩🎶
This is the country music I grew up with...when country was still country!! I miss this kind of country music.
This man never ever let you down. He paints it big.
Txs for reacting to Kenny again. Don't stop, keep goin', Lol... he's got LOTS OF GREAT TUNES!
Kenny rogers The Gambler broke even R.i.p .He left us with a great legacy.
So sad that he's gone...I saw him in concert in the 80's.....my favorite Christmas music is by him...
His Christmas show was fantastic. I saw him in the early-ish 90s (and I’m like 90% sure Martina McBride... joined him). Very fortunate to have seen him. RIP.
@@Jillyconjem I bet that was great....I believe I saw him in the 80s and BJ Thomas was there.
mandy gray Very cool!
@@Jillyconjem 😉
Hi Jay, Kenny was a great singer.
Please react to coward of the county and you are so beautiful a live tribute to his son Christopher. 😊
All us boys in 8th grade knew this by heart and sang it on the bus rides home from school. His biggest hit. I’ll bet anywhere you go if you sing the phrase you gotta know when to hold em whoever is nearby will finish the song!
The Gambler has left the table Rest In Peace Kenny Rogers 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I grew up listening to this song. It’s brilliant storytelling!
I love this song its amazing. Brings back memories of being in the local pub as a teenager and an old guy used to get up on karaoke and sing this every week 😁
Not only one of the great country songs, one of the greatest songs ever!
Kenny's biggest hit and signature song. And a GREAT song at that. Kenny was a helluva good singer and songwriter, and I was lucky enough to see him live a couple of times at the annual San Antonio Rodeo, our local annual county fair. I've played a lot of poker in my life, and I always hear this song playing in the back of my head when I do! I will ALWAYS love this song! And I agree, RIP Kenny! You were one of a kind!
Love his voice and being able to hear the lyrics clearly. 🐕
He's talking about life in this song!! Listen again to it ♥️
Kenny could tell a story with music with the best of them. This classic is the perfect pairing of music and story, delivered by a master of both. Great choice, Jay.
I life lesson using card game terminology that had nothing to do with cards. The old gambler died in his sleep just after sharing his knowledge of life
The old gambler had said that the best you could hope for was to die in your sleep, which he did. Thus the line “the gambler, he broken even.”
Always loved this guy, he had such a unique voice! RIP
Kenny rogers was massively loved over here in ENGLAND uk, he's just a wonderfull talent
One word. Legend.
I grew up listening to him R.I.P Kenny Rogers 🌹❤
This song was such a huge hit in the '80s (I was a kid) that I remember a TV movie being made about it! Kenny starred as the Gambler and there were others in it too. Ha.
But it's his song "Lucille" that gets me every time. Heartbreaker.
I used to play cards for matchsticks lol, never had a lot of money so it was precious and at the end of counting I had a large box of matches to put back in the drawer till the next time. Your summing up of this wonderful song was fantastic, there's no-one like Kenny and it did the normal trick of relaxing my husband who has just gone to sleep bless him. Thank you for reacting to another brilliant Kenny Rogers song, I know there are so many more but I can't remember the titles. Take care and stay safe please my friends God bless you all love hugs and peace Mary-Ellen UK
Me and my uncle used to play poker for mini cheddars, fifty cent was calling himself 'fiddy' at the time, so 1 mini cheddar = 1 fiddy, like, 'I'll see your 5 fiddies and I'll raise you 5 fiddies' 😂 ....... good times 🤣
Edit - mini cheddars are tiny cheesy biscuits.
@@Kazza_8240 I used to love mini cheddars though never thought to use them, what a fantastic idea lol. Love and hugs sweetheart Mary-Ellen
So many words of wisdom. Thank you Don Schlitz. RIP Kenny.
I knew country and I love it because of him, John Denver and Willy Nelson. Besos. 💚🇪🇸
This was one of my favorite songs as an 7 year old in 1980. So great.
Your reaction to Lady was the first reaction I ever watched...loved it!
You Decorated My Life is another great Kenny tune.
I LOVE this song!! Kenny Rogers was a beast! I could not help singing along with this! haha 🤠
I also have fond memories of him playing The Gambler on TV - way back when!
Coward of the County is a great song with an even better story. Kenny was a great story teller.
RIP for sure. I saw him in London two or three years ago and sadly he had got to old to perform, but what a legend.
Love that reaction. Enjoy doing more reactions to Kenny Rogers.
I love this song and I love that you checked it out. You are so fun to watch.
Kenny was a great entertainer I saw him in concert in the 70’s
I love this song, such a classic voice, a true legend! My personal favorite song by Kenny is called "Buy Me A Rose", if you have time you should give it a listen. Also his beautiful song that his family actually had released about a week after his death called "Goodbye". I'm not sure exactly when he recorded that one but from what I've read and understand, it was recorded not very long before he became so ill and had not yet been released and about a week after his death the record company released it stating that those closest to Kenny wished to share it with his fans. It's a beautiful song as well.
He had an amazing voice I just love it, he will be missed
I was fortunate to see him in concert at the Cap Center in D.C. he was on tour with Dolly, but she got sick so Dottie West and the Oak Ridge Boys performed in her place. But Kenny did not disappoint. Will never forget as long as I live. RIP. Kenny Rogers been a fan of yours since Kenny Rogers & the First Edition!
I listen to this song all the time....another favorite is Through the years
The metaphors of the song being you never know what ur life could withhold and about the choices you make affect people
So sad he died Kenny Rogers was amazing his songs were so great and symbolic too
Considers one of the greatest country songs of all time.
he has another one called 20 years ago and it is another great song
God bless Kenny Rogers.
Another great story song from Kenny around the same time period is "The Coward of the County".
Kennny’s best song for me hands down, RIP
Amazing talent , sorely missed ,, try Ruby, don't take your love to town
this brings back memories! the first 2 albums i bought with my very own money were Kenny Rogers "The Gambler" & Def Leppard "Pyromania". i was so excited & was telling all my friends that "i bought my first rock 'n roll albums"! lol. to me they were both rock n' roll cuz i was raised on classical & christian music. 😂
This song and Coward of The County were such great stories that they were turned into movies
A lot of life advice in that one song
I’m not a country fan but this is among the few country songs I love, such a great story told
Love the song❤️❤️❤️
The Baseball Song is Epic! Its of his more current songs, But tells a great story you can visualize in your mind! Its just really fun!
Life is a gamble-you trow out the badkeep the good&stay or walk away from things in our lives!
A great song from an amazing singer
Great track for the car, heading down the motorway on a warm summer day blasting this out. brilliant !!!
I'd use to play this before I went on a job interview.
This song painted such a great picture, a whole movie was made because of it
I love your reaction to this song. RIP k.R.
