Sweetie give yourself credit, I have listened to quite a few of your reactions you are so smart and your intuition is so on point! This song was meant as a lesson for life using gambling as the stage for the lesson. Well done!❤
I think this is my favorite from Kenny (RIP😔). Such an awesome song 👍🔥. Also, the *AUTHENTIC RESPECT and FRIENDSHIP* between Kenny and Lionel Richie was *So GREAT to SEE 👀!!!* USA for Africa 🌍 🎵🎶🫡🥹😌; Lady 🎶🎵🔥..... If Kenny was still with us, I wonder 🤔 if he would have enjoyed being a Judge on American Idol like Lionel Richie has been for a few years now??
I think this is my favorite from Kenny also (RIP😔). Such an *AWESOME* song 👍🔥.
Shon I admire the fact that you know all to well that to be successful you cannot pigeon hole yourself ‼️‼️ You listen to all styles of music and appreciate each for their differences. That's why I am a number one fan of yours ❣️❣️❣️💯
Yep, every hand, if played right, is a winner and every hand, played wrong, could lose it for you. It’s how you play the game that determines the outcome. How quickly you stand after you’ve fallen. How graciously you win & how well you handle the losses..knowing when it’s your time to shine and when to take a step back and celebrate the bright light of your brother’s success. This song is the perfect metaphor of how to handle life. Kenny has many great songs and he’s the best storyteller ❤ I’d also like to suggest Humble and Kind/Tim McGraw ❤❤
You're right it does apply to life too. I know you like Home Free. They were asked by Kenny to do a song with him.Children where I send thee. They also covered The Gambler as a tribute when Kenny passed. ☮️
I heard a quote that i really liked, paraphrasing, "in life we have a choice as to how we are going to live. We can choose to be a victim and blame everything bad that has happened to us for our lack of success. Or we can choose to be a victor and point to every bad thing that happened to us and how we overcame them to be successful"
Love Kenny Rogers music from when he was with the First Edition (60's-70's) to his solo career. He was a great story teller in many of his songs like "Coward Of The County" & "The Gambler". He had so many hits "Lucille", "Lady", "Through the Years" etc. He did a lot of duets such as with Kim Carnes "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer", with Sheena Easton "We've Got Tonight" & with Dolly Parton "Islands In The Stream". He also did quite a few duets with Dottie West.
She credited him for reviving her career. Loved it when they were doing a racey song live and her husband was one of the band, they played that so well.
It's definitely a playlist for me and has been for many many years, I have it on an album and I still play my albums every Saturday with one of my grandchildren, the most fun is choosing the next album to play! FABULOUS reaction!
nailed it. Way more life info in this song than gambling. Best reaction and understanding of this song I think I've ever seen. This is a life lesson more than a gambling lesson. Life is gamble. It's all about how you play the hand you're dealt.
Mr. Shon, I just found your page this morning, and I've been listening non-stop since. Your reactions have been amazing. Lots of fun and excellent insight. I've been loving this song since I was very little, and I didn't realize for years what you figured out in just one listen. Glad you're enjoying it, and keep up the great analysis!
Love your channel. You’re reacting to some of my favorite singers. Another favorite Kenny Rogers song is Through the Years. Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton toured together back in the day. Their duet Islands in the Stream is considered one of the best duets ever. It was also written by Barry Gibbs of The Bee Gees.
I love me some Kenny Rogers R.I.P. 🙏🏽that’s why music is life 🎶 it carry’s on through others souls forever! 🎶💿🥰✌🏽💜 Ps : I enjoy you shon you are an amazing soul 😉💙I love your energy and appreciation for music 🎶✌🏽
You are 100 percent correct it's not just about gambling it's about life. The gambler said "the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep" and he did.
I just found your channel. And you hit the nail on the head for what this song is about. If you want another fantastic song by Kenny. Listen to "Lady" it was written by Lionel Richie for Kenny. You will love it. 😊
I will always remember this as the one Muppets episode, where I got to watch a muppet drink whiskey and smoke a cigarette. Heck with Ozzy. Kenny Rogers was the true father of Anarchy! 🤣🤣🤣
Those background vocals are Kenny Rodgers, except for the bass voice. You nailed the message of the song. Loved this reaction. You have a great personality.
I just found your channel and chose to subscribe. I love watching folks react to music outside of their normal listening routine. You’re bright, articulate and have accurate insight! I’m especially a fan of the classic country genre.
Good reaction. I also love the line "Every hand's a winner and every hand's a loser." I've seen people start on top and squander it all. I've also seen people start on the bottom and fight their way to the top.
I love this song and it has been a part of my whole life. Yes, it's life lessons and I've carried these lyrics far with me. I'm at the point in life now where I mostly identify with the line "..the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep.." You seem to have a good head on your shoulders kid, go out and make memories
RIP Kenny! And my condolences to his widow who was from my hometown! Kenny was a great man! He built a really nice house for his in-laws not far from my childhood house
as some people already said give your self some credit because you found him now.The only reason that I knew about Kenny Rogers is because my father was always in charge of the radio station when growing up and he kept it on light FM,
Some other great emotional story-telling songs ate Twenty Years Ago, The Greatest and The Last Ten Years. The last one being a dedication to his close friend Christopher Reeves who play the original movie Superman.
Here's another artist I think you might enjoy "Steve Earl - Copperhead Road (Official Music Video)" Steve Earl is an American singer/songwriter, record producer, author and actor. In 1982 he began as a country music artist, but his music branched out across multiple genres of music including rock, bluegrass, folk music, and the blues.🎶❤🔥 So, Shon get ready to jam out with some rocking, soulful bluesy goodness. Let's keep these wonderful artists and beautiful music alive for more generations to enjoy.
Got to see Kenny in concert at the Greensboro coliseum. Poker is a game of psychology. I won 3 90 player holdem tournaments in 2 weeks plus others. 1 was 1000+. Paid a few bills with the winnings. I do the same with quotes. I never had nice stuff in office (other than my Notre Dame marbles) I would print quotes and tape them to the wall. When people would come in my office I would stall giving them time to read. Then I would hear them repeat them.
I loved your reaction to this -- how you express your thoughts and how you move to the music. If you want to double your pleasure you should see Home Free's cover of The Gambler!! It also has a great walking bass line by Tim, the HF bass. I noticed how much you liked him in "Ring of Fire."
This entire song is a life lesson using poker as a metaphor. Every situation is a poker hand in this metaphor, and depending on how you respond to the situation (playing the hand), you can come out ahead, limit your risks, or come out poorer from the situation.
the terminology is "emotional intelligence"-- and being able to read someones non verbal cues and emotional intelligence/facial expressions -- is a crucial communication skill- sometimes people wont verbalize how they feel, but you can tell by just reading their body language. "And somewhere in the night, the gambler he broke even, but in his FINAL words I found an ace that i could keep"-- he died in his sleep-- but he left his friend a solid piece of life advice
One of the all time great story tellers is Marty Robbins. Start out with El Paso, Then listen to Feleena, and finally the end of the story is found in the song El Paso City.
Kudos, you are one of the few who get the real meaning of this song! "He drank down my last swallow." (of his whiskey of course.) Guess he had more than just a taste of it.
"Every band's a winner..." Is also about perspective because in every hand of poker there are many losers but only one winner. Also you can turn a losing hand into a winning hand by the way you play it because if you're good at bluffing you can make your opponents believe you have a winning hand and thus make them fold their cards.
So many of KR songs are chillers, they send that chill through you in wonder. You should check out his earlier stuff too, like " Just checked in to see what condition my condition was in "
To expand on the idea that every hand is a winner and a loser there is a quote from the movie The Renaissance Man that states "The choices we make, dictate the lives we lead". Personally I have never found a quote more true.
Life is a gamble, every hand is a winner and every hand is a loser, you make the best with what you got, and in the end, the best you can hope for is to die in your sleep. If you can break even you all good man. God bless Kenny Rodgers
Your interpretation was spot on.Good country in general tells stories and life lessons.A few including this one were actually made into movies as well. Some other storytelling videos you would like.Randy Travis 3 wooden crosses. The little girl John Michael Montgomery.Fancy and Thats that night that the lights went out in Georgia. Reba Macintire.
Every hand's a winner, every hand's a loser, in other words your life is under YOUR control and depends on what YOU do , NOT what others do or say, you are the master of your life ❤❤❤
Sweetie give yourself credit, I have listened to quite a few of your reactions you are so smart and your intuition is so on point! This song was meant as a lesson for life using gambling as the stage for the lesson. Well done!❤
he gets it ;)
I think this is my favorite from Kenny (RIP😔). Such an awesome song 👍🔥. Ditto
You're correct. This song is not just about gambling. It is about life in general, and playing the hand that you've been dealt in life.
I'm old enough that I can say it's a treat to see "the next generation" find songs like this. Great reaction! Keep it up!
Kenny was not just a singer - He was a balladeer. Kenny did this song on the Muppet Show and it was so hauntingly awesome.
Your intuition is right on the money. Kenny was a very wise man and is deeply missed.
Dude. You just jumped to one of my favorite reactors. You absolutely nailed it with your take that it's more than gambling he's talking about
When he said "And somewhere in the darkness, the Gambler, he broke even" that means he died, right there in front of him while was giving him advice
Your getting from the song what was intended! Your right on the mark!
"And somewhere in the darkness, the gambler he broke even"......deep.
"every hand's a winner, and every hand's a loser" 🤯
This was always my favorite song by Kenny rogers and it got me hooked on his music right away he was an amazing singer rip Kenny rogers
Me too! Then Coward of the County cane out. A Tie!
I think this is my favorite from Kenny also (RIP😔). Such an *AWESOME* song 👍🔥.
I always remembered his performance of this song on The Muppet Show. (But hardly nothing else from that program.)
Same!!!
Yes the song is about the choices you make though out your life, some good , some bad.
Shon I admire the fact that you know all to well that to be successful you cannot pigeon hole yourself ‼️‼️
You listen to all styles of music and appreciate each for their differences. That's why I am a number one fan of yours
❣️❣️❣️💯

Well said.
I love how you replied. 😢
Kenny Rogers was the most beloved male singer of his time.
You're right it does apply to life too. I know you like Home Free. They were asked by Kenny to do a song with him.Children where I send thee. They also covered The Gambler as a tribute when Kenny passed. ☮️
You're dead on balls right about the depth of the song. You are very intuitive and i'm loving your channel :)
It's ABSOLUTELY about life.
Man when that chorus kicked in ,” … you gotta know when to hold ‘em, you got to know when to fold ‘em…” gave me chills man - what a song
Amen! Exactly right!
React to Kenny's "Ruby don't take your love to town"......a real situation heartbreaker.
Love Kenny Rogers music from when he was with the First Edition (60's-70's) to his solo career. He was a great story teller in many of his songs like "Coward Of The County" & "The Gambler". You are certainly correct about this songs meaning. It's about life as well!
My grandmother who loved to gamble used to say that you can't control the cards your dealt but you can control the cards you play with
One important thing to realize is they were never playing cards. This is definitely not about poker.
Exactly
Kenny Rodgers had a voice like butter
Love Kenny. Yup there's always life messages in old school music. Get caught up on just the gambling part, you miss the lesson. Nice reaction.
100% accurate take. Great song.
nailed it. Way more life info in this song than gambling. Best reaction and understanding of this song I think I've ever seen. This is a life lesson more than a gambling lesson. Life is gamble. It's all about how you play the hand you're dealt.
No you are correct sir, this was a life metaphor. Great reaction!
You're not wrong....this is about life. You nailed it!

Give Willie Nelson and Ray Charles “Seven Spanish Angels” a listen
It's hard to describe how big this song was back in the day. It spawned two different TV movies
Beautiful reaction! It’s absolutely about life. And his stories are the type you pass down.
I love me some Kenny Rogers R.I.P. 🙏🏽that’s why music is life 🎶
it carry’s on through others souls forever!

You are 100 percent correct it's not just about gambling it's about life. The gambler said "the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep" and he did.
Definitely a life lessons song.
Great reaction brother...you have an old soul
I just found your channel. And you hit the nail on the head for what this song is about. If you want another fantastic song by Kenny. Listen to "Lady" it was written by Lionel Richie for Kenny. You will love it. 😊
Insightful summary-you do these various iconic songs justice
Very articulate
I will always remember this as the one Muppets episode, where I got to watch a muppet drink whiskey and smoke a cigarette.
Heck with Ozzy. Kenny Rogers was the true father of Anarchy!
🤣🤣🤣
Country music is storytelling set to music. Love your reaction 🔥👵🏼☮️💜
I like your research and spontaneous balance it’s seamless
Those background vocals are Kenny Rodgers, except for the bass voice. You nailed the message of the song. Loved this reaction. You have a great personality.
You should check out his performance of Lady with Lionel Richie, who wrote the song❤ thanks for your reactions! 💖🦋
This was my favorite song as a kid, I was on the school bus singing this when I was in 4th grade😅🤣😂
The background singers for years were the Statler Boys, the antagonists from the Coward of the County song
A wonderful reaction. The group - Alabama is definitely worth checking out. A good first song would be Angels Among Us or 40 Hr. Week
Very good, Shon. Kenny was teaching, and You learned the lesson.
I heard this song a lot when I was a kid. I was an adult before I realized it's about life.
I just found your channel and chose to subscribe.

He originally was in a rock group, The First Edition. They had a song "Ruby". Try it.
Best Kenny song
This song was chosen to be included in the Library of Congress National Recording Registry

Hope you play the hand you were dealt very well and make the most out of it.
You got it!!! Life is a gamble. My mom always told me life is like poker, always keep an ace to play, don't show your cards too early.
This entire song is a life lesson using poker as a metaphor. Every situation is a poker hand in this metaphor, and depending on how you respond to the situation (playing the hand), you can come out ahead, limit your risks, or come out poorer from the situation.
You are doing great!! Your reactions are some of my favorites!!!!

You are on point, brother! You get this song!
Just discovered a song he and Dolly Parton did on his "Love is strange" album (1990), that title song. It's a good one
Kenny rogers, one of the greatest!
Another reaction for you is the gambler cover from Home Free, you won’t be disappointed!!!
You always get it!! I love your reactions!!
Absolutely love your reactions! ❤
A gambler accused of cheating was often shot on the spot, thus the reference to dying in your sleep.
LOL You are a Country western FAN! Welcome!
You just earned a new subscriber, I love your enthusiasm and your reactions
Really great reaction. Thoughtful. Well timed comments.
Best ever

Yes its exactly that, its about how to navigate life
He is talking about women in this song.
Know when to keep ‘em. Know which ones to let go.
That is the only level.

Great song choice Shon..
It is life in a song
Brotha, keep it up my dawg. You're channel is doing great.
Right on point with your analogy 😎
Life is a gamble, every hand is a winner and every hand is a loser, you make the best with what you got, and in the end, the best you can hope for is to die in your sleep. If you can break even you all good man. God bless Kenny Rodgers
