    You should take the transparent model and use colored smoke to see the airflow, it would be amazing!

    Epic build! Made me fall in love with hovercrafts again. Btw, an idea I had years ago which you may be interested in: use an air hockey table as the lift/circuit, then make a micro hovercraft with the smallest components you can find, which just channel air from the table for lift and thrust. Imagine an air hockey table with a bunch of micro hovercraft racing around on it.

    *Well done indeed!*
    I built one of these back in 1986. This was 12 feet long, and was based on the method that your design uses.
    Back then, this design was referred to as "Simple Cyclone."
    The power source for this was a 400cc twin cylinder 2 stroke engine.
    My hovercraft performed admirably, and it supplied me with endless fun :) .

      @entozoon 5 років тому

      @Blauer Elefant That's quite a tough one to answer because it very much depends on what transmitter, receiver and motor you buy. Prices vary wildly, but I tend to go for the cheapest for hobby stuff like this, so the cheapest suitable motor would be around £7 and £35 for transmitter with receiver. You can of course re-use the same transmitter for multiple projects

    • @entozoon
      @entozoon 5 років тому

      @Blauer Elefant Yes. I've given you all the prices in previous comment, plus printing costs of course, maybe £1 for the servo and £10 or so for a 3S lipo battery

    Hey Tom, I make lots of coroplast swamp boats and have the same problems of lateral stability as with your hover craft. I found that using a helicopter single axis gyros work really well for holding the nose straight once you let go of the sticks. It becomes really locked in and doesn't get effected by wind at all, keeping the boat track G dead straight even in the long straights. Also, I use a single axis thrust vetoring system to steer, turning the whole propellor and motor set on a heavy duty hinge hanging over the back of the boat. This gives it immense amounts of authority in turns and stability, being able to turn in its own length.

    • @calebsherman886
      @calebsherman886 6 років тому +8

      Jamie You can get pretty cheap, especially if you make things on your own. Once you get a transmitter, depending on the project, the motors for a simple robot are pretty cheap. I made a 3D printed RC Tank that's fun to drive around with 2 geared motors and cheap ESCs.

    • @charleslittle458
      @charleslittle458 6 років тому +2

      Jamie man you have got to try it! I bought a $15 drone and put a $20 camera on it and got a $20 receiver and I wish I could afford more. Totally worth your time make sure you buy plenty of batteries and it's game on.

    • @Pijawek
      @Pijawek 6 років тому +2

      Jamie RC was never cheaper. You can get a FrSky QX7 - an insanely powerfull 32-channel transmitter - for about 100 bucks. And if you don't get on the hype train and don't mind waiting for packages from China you really can do it on a budget.

    Hello, Tom.
    This video has given me great insight on a few of key elements (in my opion) on rc hovercraft design. For a past month Ive been working on a ducted fan hovercraft using a single 64mm duct and a hard foam skirt. I used a similar method to flow the air under the craft using an airflow system under the main chassis and a double rudder steering mechanism. Both are extremely simple and make the craft inexpensive and energy conserving due to having a single motor and exceptionally responsive while steering due to the double rudders.
    The craft can reach speeds up to 60kph and is powered by a 3 cell 2500mah lipo. Ive had runs that go up to 30 minutes. Ive run the craft on a local velodrome because of its ludicrous speed. In high speeds it tends to understeer due to the nature of aerodynamics of it flying like and arrow, but its possible to turn on a huge radius because it can drift like a hovercraft.
    If I ever plan on publishing this hobby project ill be sure to point to this video. These are great concepts.
