    You can pull power from the balance lead of the 4-cell lipo for the receiver eliminating the other battery. We used to do that with our FPV drones before the video transmitters were high voltage. It works great. You pull from the connector where 6v comes out for the receiver.

    It's hard to change the direction of the axis of an rotating mass (gyroscopic effect), in this boomerang design, the motors rotational axis are changed when the boomerang it's self rotates, so the boomerang is continuously fighting against the gyroscopic effect. So maybe that's why the small one didn't work and it took so much motor power to make it work

  • @LV4TD101
    @LV4TD101 9 місяців тому +17

    If you put a bearing in the center with a tube and attached a second one on the "bottom" going the opposite way, you might be able to make it hover. And if you slow down the top or bottom motors, it might make it turn left or right. Basically a way over complicated drone "boomerang" but would be cool to see 😁

    The FS-i6 will bind to any flysky receiver which uses AFHDS or AFHDS 2A there is a setting in the menu to switch between the two. I have also bound mine to some HobbyKing recievers.

  • @Galileocrafter
    @Galileocrafter 9 місяців тому +14

    4:50 PA: That’s a Flysky FS-i6, don’t cheap out. I am not surprised it doesn’t work… Just get an actually good transmitter, basically anything that runs EdgeTX is ok. I recommend the Radiomaster Boxer, or the TX16S. Also, ELRS for the transmitter and receiver. With Radiomaster, they have an option for a built-in ELRS transmitter.
    Edit: The FS-i6 is literally the cheapest radio on getfpv right now. For just 11$ more you could’ve gotten a Radiomaster Pocket which is IMHO the waaaay better deal.

    Nice! Does your setup allow you to reverse the motors? Maybe just before trying to catch it, a quick reversal might make it easier. Also, if it's about to hit something, maybe there would be less damage if it wasn't spinning as much.

    Great Video!
    Some possible ideas for future revisions;
    - Design it as a 2 part Sandwich to "internalize' wiring and components
    - Split the battery load onto the 3 arms evenly (ie 3 battery packs)
    - Modify the wing design to include the pitch angle for more consistent/uniform pitch angles
    Not sure how feasible, but if you cold program the motors individually you could potentially have full maneuverability and fly it like a "normal" drone

      But authentic boomerangs weren't meant to come back, they were hunting weapons. Not having any knowledge of aerofoils, or the tools to check perfect balance, aboriginals would use trial and error to make ones that flew in a relatively straight and predictable manner. A returning boomerang would be a novelty and fun, but useless as a weapon.

    I thought about making something like this but with two blades and also a servo that moves the battery slightly in order to change the center of rotation which would alter the flight path. The other way to control it would be to have one motor counter rotating from the other and use torque to alter the flight path. It would also be cool but even more difficult to have the motors pulse with more power toward the forward direction on each half of the boomerangs spin propelling it forward.

    the thing with a boomerang is that it was trailing edge stall (like a helicopter's rotors).. where one side is travelling slower than the other cause its going in the opposite direction the boomerang is travelling.. thats what makes a boomerang tilt to one side... The challenge is finding a way to control the motor speed when its either exactly on the leading edge or the trailing edge... that would give you tilt (and hopefully directional) control

    You should try using a flywheel with a brake to power it. That way you can throw it and use the brake of the flywheel to control its rotation as it loses momentum. Plus you can spin it up before throwing it and save weight and complexity on the boomerang. The brake could be as simple as a servo horn rubbing the flywheel

    If you implement altitude hold with a flow sensor and a gyro assisted stabilisation, you will realize that your ThreeWingDrone will spin down the motors at some point of rotational speed, when you actually command the drone to speed up and fly at a more elevated altitude than before.
    This is caused by the upward lift forces that are generated by the wings, providing a much better efficiency compared to a drone with 4 motors and no rotation and Wings to rotate around.
    When you want to increase the height of your ThreeWingDrone, you will recognize, that the motors are actually spinning down at one point of time and are driven at a much slower speed than before the command to nacigate to a Higher altitude. This spin-down happens when the rotational speed has increased to a specific level above which more altitude is gained.
    Lifting your drone by spinning the motors down! This may sound crazy, but it is a real thing with a design like this.
    By the way you are by far NOT the first to fly a ThreeWingDrone, as even i myself have some knowledge to share, how your drone will perform with specific parameter, sensors and configuration applied.
    Please try this yourself, as it really IS a lot of fun flIying stabilized and then at one point start rotating the whole thing, spinning down the motors and gaining height.
    Of course you can also speed up the motors to lift at an even higher speed. Or have the motors run at constant Speed and only through beginning rotation start to lift the drone to the sky.
    Happy implementing of this crazy feature to your ThreeWingDrone, the video you will create about your experience will definetely go viral like crazy, this i can assure you right now before you even have started anything regarding this configuration.
    Good luck making something funky, completely new and never ever seen before...

    Sweet project! I wonder if it can be controlled. Perhaps a servo controlling an aileron to tilt it at the correct rotation angle intervals during flight. Love the spinning transition BTW 👍

    you probably should just use any radio with ELRS, really simple and great range. pretty much all drones use it now days. I do still use my DX6 though, it's great in its own way

    For this you need the pitch of the rotators to rotate plus some form of stabilization in the whole process

    You can't bind your Spectrum to your Flysky, because they use different communication protocols. All manufacturers use different protocols.
    The only exception is Flysky, Turnigy and Hobby King - they use AFHDS and they can be interchanged.
