Dude has more tools and time than most of us, otherwise he wouldn't take the cheapest portable band saw in the world and convert it to a bench unit. Thumbs up.
That's actually a great idea. For my part, it would seem really easy to add one of those flexible arm LED lights to the saw as well. Having a focused light when cutting dark materials (like metal) always makes it easier for me.
I did this and it's great. It does what I hoped it would. I got a table/stand on Amazon to make it bench top, I don't have the tools and materials to easily make my own. It came with a Velcro strip for the trigger and I had an outlet on a switch to plug it into. I was looking into getting a band saw about the time you uploaded this. I have a small shop and need my equipment to be compact while still having enough power, so this was just what I needed. Thanks for the recommendation.
Torches are cool. Fireball tool really sold me on them. They don't need a compressor or electricity. They can basically cut any thickness. Great tool and skill to have. It's old school and some of the old-school ways are still the best ways.
Wow you made this complicated! I'm a custom knives as a hobby. I made the bower saw into a vertical metal bandsaw a couple of years ago. The flat plate was just made out of 1/8-in aluminum that works great! By using slightly longer screws I was able to leave the original steel underneath the aluminum plate so that anytime I want it to take it out of the stand and use a portable I could do that by simply removing the two screws and then putting them back in again.
Yes sir , I'm finally rebuild my humble lil shop after relocating earlier this yr , I'm able 2 step up my game with more tooling and this one is on the list , all always thx for the motivation , peace Gb

I have a Harbor Freight portable band saw that I've used for 10 years now as maintenance at a steel mill. It came with replacement motor brushes. It's variable speed. All around a tremendous buy.
I couldn't agree more!! I built mine from some found bed frame angle iron and some scrap steel, its easily my go to saw for most things. I make a lot of different things and use my portband saw almost every time.

DAD is so far behind the curve on this one. Most folks have one because it's the cheapest alternative to a full size one. And if you go to SWAG off-road you will find the build stands for port-a-bands.
Funny thing about the cure, it reminds me of a box. I wasn’t aware there was a box. Pretty cool build for $150. We are loving it. I think there are some out there for $500+. Good times. Glad you’re here hanging out with us my friend. Cheers Dad
Wish I had built my stand I bought a Swag stand though. Works well, 1 knob to disassemble for blade changes. I also put a cheap HF momentary foot switch and an LED clamp on light that mounted great to the Bandsaw forward handle! Cool project thanks for sharing!
I have a DeWalt portaband and I bought a swag table for it. And I love it. Only thing I don't like about it is I need to remove the portaband from the table to change the blade. I like how you did your table. It's nice.
@@KyleRoyerKnives no I can't mod it. If I do the table top will get cut in half if I want to pull the band out from the front of the table. I like your setup because the band can come out from the front without removing anything. Pretty smart setup.
I’ve seen some of Adams’s build’s but I didn’t see that one. I’ve never seen this done before. Kyle told me about one he used in a shop of one of his teachers back in the day. Cheers Dad
I put one together with a Dewalt portable bandsaw and a manufactured table. After cutting my thumb in half, the only shortcoming of this design is the lack of a guard that comes down the blade like a traditional metal cutting bandsaw. I wish somebody would design and sell an attachable guard that would allow you to put whatever thickness of metal you want through it but keep fingers from the blade. No I’m not an amateur, I’ve been using a bandsaw for 35 years, but all it takes is one slip with a blade that is as exposed as what you see in this video. Yes, I was using a push stick. Just a thought.
Sorry to hear about that my friend. That blade is pretty close to important body parts on the left exposed side. Glad you’re here hanging out with us all Chao Dad

Hey thanks Blaney. We didn’t go to Texas this year. May go next year. Definitely going to BLADE in Atlanta this year. 1 S front row just to the right. We can have a coffee break Cheers Dad
I like your design and it has me rethinking my setup. I built a tabletop version with an enclosed base, however the table blade kerf slot runs to the back. This requires me removing the saw to replace the blade. I really like how you can change the blade in place with your design.
Great video that should help a lot of folks. I have the same saw set up in the Swag Off-Road table. I use it more than most tools in my shop! I like that the swag table has rails for the Miter gauge I use so I can cut decently accurate angles, also like the foot pedal accessory.
@@chrisgoody8018 the convenience of having it pre made was worth it to me, but if you have extra time and material you may be able to fabricate something just as good for cheaper. Just another project I didn’t need on my list just wanted it up and running
