i made kinda the same thing but put a base on it and a foot peddle your the first iv seen with a similar design .made mine a few years back. and shop class was my favorite back in the 80s. i know they will appreciate it down the road.
Very clever ... I also couldn't agree with you more about shop classes for your children. I know when I grew up back in the 60's that shop gave me a love and respect for what it takes to make something both with my head and hands. Good for you and your wife giving them the tools they will need to truly be successful and self sustaining.
I really like that you teach your kids skills they'll be able to use throughout their lives. So many people don't have ANY idea how to use their hands to make things now days. Other than trouble that is. Nice job on that bracket.
You're absolutely right about the loss of shop classes in school. My my fascination with tools started long before shop class but it taught me a lot. I'd love to see what you were using to mill your pieces too. A small milling machine is on my bucket list. Thanks for the cool video.
Really love your shop setup! Also think it's great to educate kids with practical skills. Too many young people leave school with academic knowledge but little ability to apply it to the world around them. Kudos!
It was awesome to hear after watching and learning from many many of your videos as an aspiring knife maker, the fact that you also homeschool your kids for the same reasons we do makes it even more enjoyable.
Much respect. Most people today think can't fix a flat tire much less do anything else. You will be putting your kids in a great position in life by teaching them how to work with their hands. This gives them problem solving skills that are almost lost in kids today.
Great idea and fabrication. I think it's awesome that you're teaching your kids how to work with their hands - something that's mostly lost in our society today. Most kids today only seem to use their hands to text or play video games.
I took metal shop in high school. I'm now in my mid-50s with a computer job, but I can still go out to the garage and cut/bend/weld a lot of useful stuff. Shop class was one of the few educational experiences in high school that have followed me all my life. Great job passing those skills on to your kids!
great mount and i like how quick it go's back to a hand held. glad your teaching your kids how to use tools. I learned a lot from my uncle. the memory's are priceless to me.
Great idea for the mount. Also good for you home schooling and doing a shop class. Kids nowadays can't do anything when it comes to woodworking or metal working or mechanical in nature. Our school system sux. Back many years ago, shop classes were my favorite classes and the stuff I learned along with having a dad who was a carpenter has been extremely useful my whole life.
I’ve always enjoyed your content and all your builds. I gained a whole new level of respect for you, in regards to your position on our children needing to learn to work with their hands .... Amen on that friend!!!
Wow ,Just found your channel,Nice shop out of a storage container, all your tools and a wood burner ,Nice ,Great thing to teach kids how to work with their hands ,we don’t need anymore 30 year olds that can’t put air in their tires ,Good Job !!!
I've always held you and your work in high regard Jeremy and now that I know you are passing on your skills to your kids, that respect has increased ten fold. Here in Australia, our country started going down hill once the government stopped supporting local industry in favour of imports. We don't make anything here any more. Hands on skills will always serve your kids well later in life. Even if they don't use them to make a living, they will know enough to respect the effort of others. Big fan man.
Old video but I still enjoyed it and got some great ideas for my own holder build. Love that you teach your kids about shop. I loved shop class in high school. I'm retired now but that class gave me a great head start in the life I chose to live. Taught us how to use oxy/acc torch, arc weld, small engine repair, electrical wiring, plumbing, carpentry. Even now, hardly a day goes by that I don't use some of the knowledge gained from one of those skills.
Bravo that you home school and bravo that you teach your children a trade. God bless you and your family. I have been a tradesman my whole life and I love teaching my grandchildren.
boy is that ever true about shop class I'm old school and like to do everything I can myself to it seams people want someone to everything for them. keep up the teaching of the boys you grow closer and they will be rewarded down the line
I couldn’t agree with you more on teaching children to appropriately and safely use tools! So many adults now have never had the chance to use their hands to make something, but it’s great to see a renaissance of sorts with people want to reconnect with “making”. We homeschool and I’m a woodcarver, so my children have learned about carving and how to safely use those tools. Keep up the great work!
First, I bow to your amazing imagination that came up with this excellent idea...so simple, but so effective! Second, there is no measure for the level of jealousy I have for your being able to home school your kids in shop class! From the kids' point of view, It's *THE* most fun class in Jr high *AND* high school, but to get to make the projects at home, with your *DAD* teaching you...? Awesome!!
I like this option, especially the lower hanger when I am in production mode I can now sit at the band saw sweet thanks for taking the time to share this with us. Play Safe From Elliot Lake Ontario Canada.
I have to agree the shop classes were an important part of helping kids decide if the trades or college was their preferred path. It also lit the creativity ug in some kids. Truly a lost coursework in high school. Your kids are very fortunate to have a good mix of technology & trades experience exposure.
Great idea to use the handle to hold it. I'm on a small budget for my knife shop, so I bought the new Harbor Freight version. It's actually very nice. $99.99 on sale. anyway I went to our local machine shop and asked for a piece of scrap steel. They came up with a 6x9x1/4" piece for me for free.. awesome.. I used your clamp idea on mine and that worked great. I can even pack my table in my case to go...
I have the same saw, so I'll be making the same mount. You're right about shop classes. From what I hear and see, I don't think most kids can could change the oil in their cars if their life depended on it. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Great job!.....Hi five on teaching your kids how to use their hands and be creative. It is very sad that Art, Shop and music have been cut from so many schools. Keep up the good work
I made a similar gravity / friction mount for my porta-band last summer. I powered mine with a footswitch, which has been awesome. I wish I had room for a shipping container shop. Very cool setup.
So rite about public schools eliminating shop classes. I don't know how I would have ever gotten through high school without Wood Shop and Power Shop. Kids today really got shafted with that one.
I have been in the trades for a few years, 2 of my favorite injuries I have seen involve gloves. The wrap the hand around the drill press (big clausing beast at that) and shove the hand into the bench grinder. Honorable mention for shove the hand into the vertical band saw and dig the 4 1/2 grinding wheel out of belly ( I did not watch this one but I was there like 5 minutes later). I let my kids weld but I do the tools that will put them in the er.
Outstanding! And I commend you on the home schooling of the kids and teaching them the shop skills! One of my three daughters chose to follow me out to the shop to learn those things as well.
Great idea but more than the mount, just hearing your passion when you speak about your kids its amazing!! I don't homeschool but I try to teach my kids in my makeshift shop (aka garaga) too!
great stand. I built a table style one for mine. I don't use it enough because its a pain to put on and off . I'm seriously considering redoing it like yours. you have the best of both worlds
Great idea. I will build a similar one. Thanks for sharing. I have nephew came to our house last year, didn’t know how to use a screw driver. Sad at 18 no dad, schools here East Texas dropped shop years ago. Kids need to have at least the basics. Good thing we have built new public school here in Tyler just to deal with skilled trades, there is hope. Thank you again for the share, especially the logic at the end, gave clear understanding of design.
If it wasn't for my uncle teaching me the in's and out's of how things work (yep, just about everything) I wouldn't have been able to pass the information down to my two son's. Now they have their friends come over to our house asking them to look at their cars or help them with some type of complex mechanical project. Oh, by the way, both of them have become Mechanical Engineeers. So God Bless you for doing this with your kids. And yes, it is extremely sad that our educational system fails to recognize the importance of using our hands to fix things ourselves.
Love the container shop. Have watched before and remembered after watching this one. The container shop is a great idea. I have two with 8ft of space in between, covered for the TLB to stay dry and out of the sun. Also make great storage and shop space. One idea for you, a quieter compressor. They are making much less noisy everything now and when I'm working I always try to replace when I can with quiet machines, especially in a confined space. Save the eyes, ears, and lungs when you can. Good projects!
That's great you're teaching your kids this stuff! Like you said it is such a shame that shop class isn't getting taught too often. I go to college for engineering and we have a decent size workshop, but they cut the classes that actually taught us how to use the machines. It's a waste, but I try to go in there myself and learn when I can on my free time.
Great idea Jeremy! We too homeschool and use my shop as well as our property to teach. When the funds get available, I've been eyeing a Milwaukee too. I was thinking about a SWAG table but that there is a great alternative.
I was going to say that swag off road makes wonderful stands for your/mine bandsaws, but I really like your idea maybe a little bit more. Nice build and great choice for your kids!
Great video, always good to see how you adapt to make your work shop space work for you. I think I saw something similar a while back while looking for a similar solution and I can't remember who posted be video but they used bike hooks into two 2x4's they happen to have at the right distance. Just something to think about for the rest of us just getting into metal working and not as well practiced.
Kudos to you for teaching your children REAL LIFE SKILLS they may not otherwise receive in our "modern" education system.
i made kinda the same thing but put a base on it and a foot peddle your the first iv seen with a similar design .made mine a few years back. and shop class was my favorite back in the 80s. i know they will appreciate it down the road.
KUDOS TO YOU FOR TEACHING YOUR KIDS, IT REMINDS ME OF MY DAD WHEN HE TAUGHT ME USING TOOLS WHEN I WAS YOUNG.
Super cool that you’re passing along your building skills to the kids!
Very clever ... I also couldn't agree with you more about shop classes for your children. I know when I grew up back in the 60's that shop gave me a love and respect for what it takes to make something both with my head and hands. Thank you 👍
Drill and tap a hole in the receiver and use a thumbscrew to lock the assembly in place. Great job ... and it's great you're bringing the kids along!
Great idea. Thanks for being a real dad to your kids. We home schooled ours as well and it has paid some big dividends.
Great idea getting the kids involved Jeremy. It'll serve them well to know how to work with tools for their whole life.
Nice work on you're shop and you're kids. Teaching them life skills they can use and home schoolers are the best people on earth.
Its great to see someone imparting not just education but life skills to kids... so many are totally clueless through no fault of their own.
This is one of the best solutions I've found for this or any portaband. Congrats!
Thank you!
I love that you have a lower mount for the kids to use the band saw. That's epic!
I had a little buddy years ago that absolutely ADORED shop time with "uncle". Very cool porta-shop tool mount sir.
I like this solution the best for the portable bandsaw stand. Thank you for posting!
Learning to work with your hands , builds confidence and self esteem!!!
Good input to UA-cam's discussion of portaband possibilities and special thanks for teaching kids to manipulate physical reality.
Great idea and fabrication. I think it's awesome that you're teaching your kids how to work with their hands - something that's mostly lost in our society today. Most kids today only seem to use their hands to text or play video games.
I’m happy to hear about you teaching your kids shop skills. My grandfather taught me how to use lots of tools and it has always helped me.
I took metal shop in high school. I'm now in my mid-50s with a computer job, but I can still go out to the garage and cut/bend/weld a lot of useful stuff. I like that quenching method.

I was just looking for an idea on how to hold my porta band, but you are absolutely right about training the kids. 2 thumbs WAAAAY UP!
Thanks! 👍
We home school too. And here I am looking for mount ideas for my porta-band. I like your option very much. Keep making great videos.
So true. Good for the young ones to learn these basic shop skills and they can progress to whatever level of proficiency they are inclined. Very cool.
I couldn’t agree with you more on teaching children to appropriately and safely use tools! Nice job! Way to think outside the box!
Thank you so much!
great home teaching... i had a couple of shop classes back when but not today...
First, I bow to your amazing imagination that came up with this excellent idea...so simple, but so effective! Very nice ! Love your attitude towards bringing back 'Shop Class'! My fondest memories of high school. 😊
I have to agree the shop classes were an important part of helping kids decide if the trades or college was their preferred path. It also lit the creativity ug in some kids. Truly a lost coursework in high school. Your kids are very fortunate to have a good mix of technology & trades experience exposure.
Awsome, and great job getting the kids involved thats awsome.
Thank you!
Glad I watched to the end. Your comments about teaching your kids skills and how to use their hands had me reaching for the like button right away!
Great idea to use the handle to hold it. I'm on a small budget for my knife shop, so I bought the new Harbor Freight version. Thank you ... You have given me some great ideas for mounting my portable band saw in my shop .... Teach the children well and they will never starve
It is awesome that you set something up for the kids. I agree, we do need to ensure that the kids have the knowledge.
Thank you. Yup, even if they never go that route as a career, being able to use tools and make stuff is a great skill for kids to learn.
This is the best diy mount I've seen, its now on my project list right after i finish my welding cart..
Thank you 👍
Really like what your doing here especially with teaching your children industrial arts which will turn into life skills!!!
Nice use of space.. and congrats on teaching the kidz… that’s our future
Amen to shop class, everyone needs to have shop knowledge. Great video.
Good job man. Great to see someone concerned with raising their kids to be a cut above. Love the quick release on the saw.
Great design for the band saw mount. The kids have a good teacher--more power to you.
Great job! Love hearing about getting the kids some life skills as well. Be fun to see some of the projects they are working on.
I have the same saw, so I'll be making the same mount. You're right about shop classes. From what I hear and see, I don't think most kids can could change the oil in their cars if their life depended on it. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Nice! Nothing wrong with teaching kids how to safely use tools and then their minds can build.
I watched the entire video and the snow scene three times for good measure. I WILL be making this in the future. Excellent job!
So rite about public schools eliminating shop classes. I don't know how I would have ever gotten through high school without Wood Shop and Power Shop. Kids today really got shafted with that one.
Good on you, Jeremy! We love homeschooling as well. Love the time flexibility to do shop stuff.
Nice. Love that you made it child inclusive.
Very cool young man and great that you are taking responsibility for your kids future
Great idea but more than the mount, just hearing your passion when you speak about your kids its amazing!! I don't homeschool but I try to teach my kids in my makeshift shop (aka garaga) too!
Very nice, I agree on the shop class.
This mount is far better than what I was thinking about building for myself. Your version will be great fun to make with my everlast welder.
great stand.
I built a table style one for mine.
I don't use it enough because its a pain to put on and off . I'm seriously considering redoing it like yours. you have the best of both worlds
Wait, so you teach your kids that they can make things with their own two hands instead of buying everything? What a concept! Nicely done sir!
+d f haha yeah crazy right?! Thank you! 👍
Grt video and even better idea about teaching your kids. Awesome
Thank you!
Great idea. I will build a similar one. Thanks for sharing. I have nephew came to our house last year, didn’t know how to use a screw driver. Great job. I like how you cool your welds in the snow. I do the same when we have any. You make excellent use of your space in that shipping container
Well done! The kids will be the wiser than their counterparts with knowledge of how to getter done! Cheers
the best days are when I get to watch your channel one of my favorite keep the great videos
Awesome design, I love how easy it is to install and remove. Can you do a video and how you made the removable platform also? Thanks!
was fairly impressed with the mount (I have the Harbear Frought version). But that you home school your kids, just WOW!
Agreed about the hands on learning ......... Good Job Dad
this is a awesome idea i like the way its out of the way but still useful even when stored.
If it wasn't for my uncle teaching me the in's and out's of how things work (yep, just about everything) I wouldn't have been able to pass the information down to my two son's. What a great idea. I really need to weld up a mount with my everlast like you have there.
This is the 1st video I watch from your channel. Great idea 👌. Dad teaching kids how to use their hands is totally amazing thumbs up for that.
wow have the same saw love to find time to make this was just going to grab the base on line thanks mate for ur time on this video
Love the container shop. Have watched before and remembered after watching this one. The container shop is a great idea. Perfect for my next tool purchase. aaaand mine will be kid height just for me! Thanks for Sharing!

Loved your cooling mechanism....lol
awesome idea, going to borrow this idea for sure!
Great idea Jeremy! We too homeschool and use my shop as well as our property to teach. When the funds get available, I've been eyeing a Milwaukee too. I was thinking about a SWAG table but that there is a great alternative.
Is there a video for that plate that you have quick connected to the actual base of the saw?
If you can't figure that out, you probably shouldn't be using a band saw...
Enjoyed the video and the message. Your kids are actually going to have some real skills.
Great videos from a great dad. We need more people raising their kids right. :-)
+Problematic Polar Bear thank you very much. I really appreciate that. Cheers!
Cheers! :-).
Well done! Nice, straightforward design. I love that you are teaching your kids mechanical skills and to use their hands.
I was going to say that swag off road makes wonderful stands for your/mine bandsaws, but I really like your idea maybe a little bit more. Nice build and great choice for your kids!
Frickin brilliant! Nice work. Ill be making a mount like this over the weekend
Sounds like a wonderful life
LMAO! Nice to see that our typical Canadian winter snowdrifts are actually good for something practical! Loved that mounting idea.
