I agree mostly, but what do you think about Jar Jar Binks (and all the other things that went wrong in the prequels)? And have you ever read the first draft of the Star Wars script? Sorry, but that wasn´t the creation of a genius at all.
@The Galactic Senate of the Republic I´m not sure, if I like the Prequels better than the Sequels, in addition I haven´t seen "The Rise of Skywalker" but what I´ve seen and heart of it on UA-cam seemed to me like a total disaster. Sorry, but I find Jar Jar much worse than Baby Yoda.
@The Galactic Senate of the Republic Now that you say it... I agree: to make Yoda cute is also in my opinion wrong...but just as wrong as to present Darth Vader and Boba Fett, these two menacing villains, as innocent children. As for Jar Jar I have to disagree: To me it is not much an accomplishment to act over the top goofy and clumsy and to play the beating boy for the so called heroes (to me it is little heroic how Qui-Gon treats Jar Jar) .
Yeah that one is perfect. Also, he is a film making icon, he became insanely rich and that BECAUSE not IN SPITE of his principles. I believe you need that to create a film series that includes forgiveness, redemption and ultimately love and respect for a parent to save the galaxy. That is why so many people passionately love Star Wars. On the other hand, Kathleen Kennedy thinks that political correctness and pushing feminist and sjw agenda will lead to success. She can't be more wrong.
I know Lucas gets bashed a lot and there are apparent reasons for that in terms of decisions about how the prequels were made and the story focus, but if you listen to Lucas speak he is remarkably intelligent and has clear and deep understanding (by the standards of this Western civilisation's media/public debate). I watched a UA-cam video that included Lucas talking to several employees about how the Force works (both light and dark sides) and it was wonderful to listen to him lay out spontaneously his understanding of spirituality and human frailty. It's frustrating the he couldn't reproduce kind of clear insightful presentation in the prequels, but I recommend anyone watching this video seek out more of Lucas' interviews.
Numinous20111, I don't think Lucas ever deserved the bashing he got for the prequels. Bunch of fan boy cry babies. It was his vision. Damn, Lucas made an effort to give us fans more Star Wars, and all people did was bitch about it. How many people are brilliant enough to accomplish what this guy has? And he still had a desire to try some things weather they worked or not.
Sweet. Thanks for putting this together. Good job. I liked the part of his industriousness while at school. It reminded me of "Things move along so rapidly nowadays that people saying: 'It can’t be done,' are always being interrupted by somebody doing it.". Cheers bro!
Thanks for compiling this #EvanCarmichael. All were amazing! #8 "Pursue joy, not pleasure" is my favorite. #10 "Helping others" is my second favorite. Beautifully said #GeorgeLucas!!!
Evan, I am a 44 year old Dad of 6 children. I work full time and own and run a food business on the side that I have been running for the last three years. I just wanted to tell you that I have been listening to various "Top Ten Rules" for about a year now. I am starting to implement some things I have learned here and am extremely grateful for what you have put together. A friend and I have been studying and investing in another business model that we hope to have launched very soon. I hope to implement much of what I have learned on your channel. Several tidbits I have heard, can be life changing if implemented. Wanted to express my gratitude for you taking the time to do this. May God bless you. Travis C. Smithfield, KY.
Help other people. In big ways, small ways...... sometimes just a smile and a "Hi" can go farther than you may think at the time, in the moment. I know that this is true, I've seen it and lived it. It's real. Best Wishes Always, Evan.
Outstanding video!! While not everything George Lucas has done has been brilliant, you have to admire him for being true to himself. I always have, I've always looked up to him both as a storyteller AND as a businessman, and will forever be grateful to him for the joy he has brought to me, my family and my friends' lives. I especially liked "Don't make excuses." While all of Lucas' classmates were moping around saying, "I wish I could make a movie," what was Lucas doing? Taking what little he had (a minute of film) and MAKING A MOVIE!!! That initiative shows right there that he had what it took to be successful. I also loved his speech about pursuing happiness as pleasure versus joy. Relating it to a drug high is the perfect analogy! That which gives immediate pleasure and THEN makes you pay the price isn't worth pursuing. But that which you struggle and pay the price for out of a real love for it will eventually bring long-term happiness. I wish Mr. Lucas all the happiness in the world in his retirement. When he eventually passes, I WILL mourn.
Joy, not pleasure! A very important teaching. While the concept has been around for centuries, in this modern age you hear this less and less. A great reminder :)
A large portion of highly successful people have been told that they were crazy growing up. This is one of the most inspiring speeches I have ever heard.
My favorite George Lucas' rules of success are follow your passion and Be true to yourself. You cannot allow someone to persuade to become a mechanic if your heart is not in it. If you want to become a cartoon artist; be a cartoon artist, if your heart is in; and yoh love it. Ignoring the opinions of others is a key factor being true to your craft and not allowing distractions slow your creativity. Great video.
My favorite of George Lucas' rules for success was number #10 - Follow your Passion, because totally true to me as I was a kid I was done everything I did, then following something I really cared about. Is something that I loved, something I was very passionate about to it. And I always kept following that passion. Everything I passion for whether it was filmmaker, whether it was anthropology, whether it was artists, whether it was scientist or whether it was art, music, science, humanism. And eventually, it led me to my huge passion, my real passion, which is making a fan fiction story by use of themes and motifs in philosophical way of thinking by the way you view the world as major miracle, which is combined all of those things I really cared for. Also noted by being influenced by various filmmakers, animators, writers, directors, actors, fans, journalists, scientists and etc around the world. And I realized that, had I gone to get my degree. Everything I really cared for is part of me in personal as well as Evan Carmichael is being inspired to do good things from everyone around the world really understand.
Great video! These rules we should all live by. Especially now, when we close our doors to other people and lets the egoism win. Sad that Lucas won't share is movies in the future, hope he change is mind, because he still inspire me and others.
A person becomes moral by considering their actions, weighing the consequences, and deciding whether they are doing more harm than good to themselves and other people. People don't like to be hurt, and they usually recognize that other people getting hurt is a similarly undesirable thing. When people are in danger of being mistreated, they seek out protection through cooperation and relationships. Society is simply a much larger extension of those relationships.
I like his information about the pursuit of joy, and that with an achievement that is everlasting. Though I believe that the higher levels of happiness can and will remain, in the pursuit and accomplishment of fulfilling dreams.
Hi Evan, thanks for making the videos. it's becoming my regular consumption these days. could I humbly request a top 10 rules for success by Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Thank you.
"You don't get successful by pushing others down. You get successful by pushing others UP." And, you get successful and happy by helping each other. Thanks, George Lucas That's what I'm talking about :) Thanks, Evan! xx
@@EvanCarmichael very much so. I've been watching some of your shows on and off for a while. And today, for some reason, I've binge-watched lots of your '10 Rules' (mostly film directors, because I'm writing a movie, some of the gems you gathered are so brilliant!). Thank You for your important work, it makes a huge difference. George Lucas' attitude is great! xx
Another great video, thanks a lot ! I think my favourite rule may be "don't make excuses". It's true that as an aspiring director like a million others, I have to do the best short movies I can do with absolutely no money nor other crew than my friends, and I hope it will finally have helped me a lot to learn filmmaking ^^ But let's mention "help others" too, that's so true that you can't do anything in an extremely competitive spirit unless you want to be an asshole ! Helping others to succeed and be compassionate toward them is a great philosophy of life indeed.
Great to know you loved it and cool to know you'll start making movies Connor. Here is a video that I hope will also be helpful to you: ua-cam.com/video/jTS2uOW-EHQ/v-deo.html All the best! :) #Believe #BTA453 Shine
All of what he said had an impact on me:-) However, at the end with the bonus clip, he said that the project he was most proud of was raising his children:-) That is priceless and I pray that is my biggest accomplishment as well! Take care--- Brandis
+MrsLoveAboveAll Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this great Lucas video! Family and children are most important. George is an inspiration! #BTA60 GT
I'm inspired by his insights and convictions in life. Living in a country that is not a good starting position for when you want to get into making movies, I have the passion in me I see in George Lucas and his attitude toward life and his love for the collaborative process of making his vision happen. Because I see this in another man who is a world builder and someone who gets the wonder in cinema and can direct that creative energy so well, my mind is made up to reach that level and to do the impossible, which is to make films and live for it every day. Regards from Belgium.
1) Passion doesn't necessarily equate to success. Opportunity leads to success. 2) True. Face the brutal facts... especially about yourself. Don't just not make excuses, get off your ass and do something. 3) Yes... critical. Major in your talent. 4) Vague and generic statement unless you know what your true essence is (see #2). What if one is true to themselves but they're a drug addict? Doesn't work in this case. 5) Only if that feedback is from valid sources or from the best in your field. I wouldn't want feedback from an idiot who has no clue what my skill and talent does. 6) True... never quit. Most people quit just right before they're successful.. It's easier to succeed than fail. 7) Agreed 100%. 8) What George means is to find happiness in being grateful. Carnal pleasure NEVER leads to happiness. 9) YES. Be kind and considerate and compassionate. 10) YES. A rising tide raises all ships. Overall, a great video.
0:12 "I can´t make the movies to make money, I just make the movies to make them good." And that´s what he did. He is a true genius. His Star Wars epsiodes 1-6 are timeless masterpieces. Not to speak of THX 1138 and American Graffiti.
This is an awesome video! I am currently in transition mode to get into making a motivational youtube channel. What are a few tips I need to realize to get some movement?
always make a Great video +Evan, I think I love 'old' starting videos: you said his description then shout his name, it look cool and make me wanna know more about (for me) and the video background it's not really good. it look plain, make videos with outside 'real' background is better (again it's my opinion ) :D
The difference between pleasure and joy, for me that's the point. About other rules that's okay, fortunatly I live with them everyday, thank you for this video 😎
also Shakespeare - no one has analyzed his success ever - off the wall maybe a little off topic - again no one examines how he was and is so memorable - that is it for awhile - you know whats up Evan
Lucas'*. If it's a name ending with "s" it just adds the apostrophe. Like, "In Jesus' name." Not Jesus's. "Tom hanks' Top Ten Rules for Success" Not Hanks's. The apostrophe shows possession. It's George's top ten rules. An apostrophe can also stand in for other letters for contractions. Like, "Cannot" can be contracted to "Can't." "Will not" can be contracted to "Won't." etc.
No. They aren't. Not originally. When a word is incorrectly spelled enough, they make it a proper word. Like, "alright" which is now proper even though it wasn't before but everyone kept saying it. It's "all right" like "all wrong". I don't know where you're from but you're wrong. Schools stopped teaching English, grammar and spelling a long time ago so I don't hold it against you.
Thank you very much for your suggestion but it would be great if you could post your request under this video: ua-cam.com/video/0arZb0xLIDM/v-deo.html If more people would vote or like your request and there are available videos/clips for it, we might do a Top 10 rules video for it. Much love. :) #BelieveNation #BTA923 Luka
I may not have been a fan of Episode II, but I liked the other Star Wars prequels and I think George Lucas can be a very good idea man and can be a great storyteller.
I have a lot of ideas and material for a sci-fi series ever ! problems with the studio and I never dealt with movies ! possibly for a new series of Star Wars !
This man has inspired countless storytellers from a young age. Whether it was indiana jones, labyrinth, or star wars, many of us are storytellers (either in private or in public) because George mystified us with his magical worlds
Say what you will about him as a Director or businessman (on most of which, I agree). But, as a creator, Lucas is awesome. He was one of my inspirations to become an artist along with Walt Disney. I hope I can someday leave a worthwhile legacy as they did. I've accepted all my works won't be good but that won't derail me from my passion. That's all I really want, not to be rich (though I would be grateful for what I make) but share what I love with others for better & worse. Lucas is like the Shyamalan of sci-fi and I mean that as a compliment because I find Shyamalan similarly great as a creator compared to his lackluster track record as a Director. Neither deserves ALL the hate they get. The problem isn't whether he has talent (he does) but how he utilizes it. You have to play to your strengths in film, which several actors as well as creators struggle with. As an idea-man, an experimental risk-taker, Lucas is one of the best. For all the inspirations he took for *SW*, he also crafted many original elements in his world that became what we know today. Granted, he had a lot of help from others who deserve credit but, in the end, we owe much of this franchise's foundations to Lucas. He's certainly gone downhill at points over time but remains an endearing example of what art should be about.
Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and for watching Keith. Great to know he and Walt Disney inspired you. All the best to you! :) Always #Believe. #BTA369 Shine

Thanks for watching. #Believe :) #BTA1457 Veljko
Glad you're feeling inspired! Much love :) #BTA1138 Luka
one of the best video i have ever seen... Thank u
So glad to know you liked it Anish. Thanks for the appreciation and for watching! :) #BTA461 Shine
He is a great inspiration for entrepreneurs
Indeed 😊 #Believe - Feb
Awesome video as always Evan really enjoy and appreciate the views of George Lucas he thinks a lot like me.
+Evan Sargent Nice. :) He's awesome. #BTA60 Ivan
Now I get it. George Lucas is joy. Those whose who hate him and the StarWars movies is pleasure.
Thanks for sharing. :) #BTA1036 Luka
You should make a Top 10 Featuring Folorunsho Alakija - Africa's Wealthiest Woman
0:12 "I can´t make the movies to make money, I just make the movies to make them good."
And that´s what he did.
He is a true genius. His Star Wars epsiodes 1-6 are timeless masterpieces. Not to speak of THX 1138 and American Graffiti.
💛💛 #Believe - Feb ( from Evan's team )

Evan can you do a top 10 rules for Rev Run?
+Devon Triche Adding him to our to do list. :) #BTA73 Ivan
Thanks Ivan.
always make a Great video +Evan,
I think I love 'old' starting videos: you said his description then shout his name, it look cool and make me wanna know more about (for me)
and the video background it's not really good. it look plain, make videos with outside 'real' background is better (again it's my opinion ) :D
+Aris Setiawan Thank you. #BTA60 Nina
Great video, thank you, Master Evan! :-)
Glad you enjoyed it :) #BTA1450 Veljko
The difference between pleasure and joy, for me that's the point.
About other rules that's okay, fortunatly I live with them everyday, thank you for this video 😎
Thanks for watching :) #BTA1385 Veljko
also Shakespeare - no one has analyzed his success ever - off the wall maybe a little off topic - again no one examines how he was and is so memorable - that is it for awhile - you know whats up Evan
+Speed Racer Thx for watching. #BTa62 NIna
Immortalised LEGEND.
+Aidey75 Thank you for watching. :) #BTA141 Luka
+Evan Carmichael thank you!
+Billy Wilson Arante Thanks for watching. :) #BTA125 Monzur
Look it up - both are grammatically correct :)
"I don't make the movies to make money, I just make them to be good" yeah just like the Prequels and the Crystal skull
Thanks for the comment and for watching Brandon. :) #BTA237 Shine
Could you do Frank oz next please, these video really help, I really want to be a director
Number 8 and 10 is truth that can't be refuted.
+WOLFMAN305 :). THX. #BTA59 Nina
I may not have been a fan of Episode II, but I liked the other Star Wars prequels and I think George Lucas can be a very good idea man and can be a great storyteller.
Thanks for sharing and thank you for watching :) #BTA977 Luka
I have a lot of ideas and material for a sci-fi series ever ! problems with the studio and I never dealt with movies ! possibly for a new series of Star Wars !
+Stranger From Space Thanks for sharing with us, and thank you for watching. :) #BTA110 Luka
This man has inspired countless storytellers from a young age. Whether it was indiana jones, labyrinth, or star wars, many of us are storytellers (either in private or in public) because George mystified us with his magical worlds

Hey Evan, I would love to see the top ten for CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien!
Thanks for the suggestion. I till pass it on to #BelieveTeam. :) #BTA450 Shine
