Practice taking off as fast as you can, you never know when you'll need it linktr.ee/GregWidmar
@motojitsu hey man love what you do. But I have a random question for ya. What boots are you rocking in this video? I like the looks of them
I just started my Motorcycle lifestyle at 49 years old. I finished my MSF taught by a confidence inspiring instructor in NW Houston. Your videos have helped me so much in the last several months that I've been thinking about a bike. Thank you for what you do. Just bought all your books on Kindle. Your content is nothing short of effin amazing.
Just realized I've been doing this since I started riding. It's also helpful to use the rear brake on hill starts. Frees up your throttle hand for better control instead of using the front brake.
Also learned at the MSF course that dragging the rear brake during low speed maneuvers really helps for example a sub 5 mph turn through pylons
Riding 30+ years and never thought about launching the bike from a pre loaded rear end using the rear brake. Here in the UK we are taught to use the rear brake when at a stand still, it's a test fail should you not do it, so therefore I've always set off from having only that brake on. Now though I may time it just that little bit different, so that I do squat the rear suspension 1st for those occasions when I know I'm going to do a spirited start. Wish I'd known this trick years ago
Don’t motogp launches technically do that?
I'll be honest, it never even occured to me to use the front brake as I'm getting ready to move. Probably because I was taught to use the back brake when at a stand still or at speeds bellow 5 mph. UK rider btw. Love your videos brother
I want to say how much I appreciate you lessons. Their are life savers and makes the riding experience so much better. Plus it’s free course online. Thank you
Great skill, just as important as emergency brake or evasion / swerve maneuvering. High quality real world riding skill and wisdom from MotoJitsu.
Your videos are seriously gold! It's helped me in so many ways. Thanks!
I have a Yamaha 155, I'll keep on practicing till I got it. Thanks for the tips @MotoJitsu. Love from the Philippines.
I reckon it is an XSR, or MT15? Probably same as my beginner bike.
Pinoy here, i guess sniper 155.
that bike is nice bro enjoy
Awesome lesson!
Great video, can’t wait to try it out. Thanks.
Nice, practical demo.
thank you love this, and as a new rider i see the importance
Very important 👌 thank you 💯
As always thanks for the great info
This may apply to a prepared racing start, but not so much to an emergency maneuver. If I see a car in my rear view not stopping, I can't waste time loading my suspension. I just hit the gas and let out the clutch and get out of the way.
Love the vids brother
Good tip..thanks for sharing.
When you use the rear brake, you can drag the clutch just slightly to take up the slight slack in the chain, you'll be less likely to stall.
I disagree with your intersection theory though. If am at the front at a light, it turns green, I go, then have to emergency stop for a light runner, I'm not accelerating until the offending car/truck is by. I'd rather be rear ended by a car doing 25mph or less, than hit broadside buy any vehicle stretching a light.
It all adds up to a good reason NOT to jump right out there on a green light. Always take the extra 2 seconds to check for light runners if you're in front.
If I'm behind cars at a light, particularly left turn lanes, I give the car in front of me a couple extra seconds because frequent accordion effect there can cause the cars to stack up fast and stop or near stop right in front of you.
Most of the time, 4 wheel vehicles won't give you room, you can't depend on that, but many times you can make your own room just by not being 'quick' of the line. Takes maybe a 1.5 seconds to look both directions before you go, at an intersection. I can spare the time to avoid catastrophe. Evaluating risk, is not just based on likelihood, it's also based on consequence. Race starts are fun, but rarely ever the right thing at busy intersections.
thanks
Thanks for all explaining In every video I got something and this will improve my skills 👍🤗
Thank you sir this is very great info
If you are at a multilane intersection, you should probably stick to the extreme right or left lane, that way if you need to go and there is cross traffic, you have the option to either turn to the left or right without potentially getting hit by the vehicle beside you if they decide to take off as well.
Thanks!
I need to practice this more. I did the feet down launch the other day and nearly fell off! Time to practice!
Can’t wait till i get my bike man
This is good info. I did not realize this.
2:30 You nailed it. TY.
Noone: nothing
Motojutsu: Im glad u asked...
Thats why we love u :D
Awesome. I would say taking off whike rear braking is more easy and quicker in various situations.
every day I watch many many of your great videos. Everyone is fantastic.I learn so much!
I feel like there’s a slight delay when I apply the gas’s on my gxsr 600. Maybe it’s and old bike or some other issue, or just user error??
Where is that engine crash bar/crash cage from?
You see this would’ve been nice to know before i accidentally WHEELED on my ninja 500 at an intersection while trying to take off fast LMFAOO. Thank you for the video 🙏
clutch replacements are expensive. i know this bec i like it as i try to avoid doing so. however i tend to forget how to do it right!
Beautiful
Good morning bro!!
Hello! Could you made the same video but with motorcycle equipped with drive shaft instead of drive chain, please?
Off topic question, but I was hoping you could share...what leather jacket is that?
OK, since seeing this video and his other video on taking off fast, I've been practicing this on my new bike i just bought. But now i want to know, what about taking off fast from an intersection if your turning? Because i know you dont want to give it too much power and possible skid sideways, so what's the best plan of action at that point?
Go straight and miss your turn. Your safety is more important than the minute or two it will take you to u-turn and come back. The only time you can't do this, of course, is at an intersection where you only have a left or right turn available. In that case, the goal is still to get out of the way, but you can do that by swerving left or right, as long as you make it out of the path of the vehicle behind you. Swerving is a skill that is tested in the MSF course in the US, so most riders should know how to perform it, and if that's something that you're not comfortable with, I would recommend you also work on that skill while doing this one, it's important to know both.
Great vid! I practice these quick take offs - they are harder than you think, especially without practice even if you’re a good rider.
Do spending to much time on the friction zone damage the clutch?
Can we take off like that at every intersection after a stop? Will that burn the clutch?
yea
Does anyone make a good rear view camera for motorcycles that gives a live feed to a screen mounted on the bars etc?
Yes but we do have mirrors...
So can you start and take off like this and not just when the bike is already on?
That is so basic it should be part of the MSF course. I have been riding for 8 years and this commonsense tip never occurred to me. Cheers
Good stuff! I also want to see some videos where you analyze videos of other riders, crashes, and give some tips. 🙏
why not add an Airvest for addtional protection as well?
Someone has been watching cycle cruiser, he does wear gear and practices more than anyone I know... probably other people that should get an air vest first
Hi bro , i think this technique is good for drag racing 😊 definitely will win over your buddy bike
The only thing this vid is missing is the front brake hold launch to wheelie demo😂
Make a wheelie video =)
I feel like you wouldn't want to do this constantly at every intersection. Or else you'll ruin your clutch just like he said. Which means most of the time you'll just be sitting normal at the intersection. If you then see a car not stopping, it makes no sense to then spend the time to preload the suspension for a launch instead of just going. So unless you are doing this all the time just to be ready, you'd never do it. Sounds good in theory until you realize this
Ok
Never had a problem get away fast...
i ride a 400. the one in my pic. I can get a better start than most 1k's can.
Feels like there is a lot of stress on the chain doing that, but it is a good technique to know!
People gonna flip their bikes watching this lol
Gonna rent a 125cc smaller bike in Mexico City. Hopefully I don't get run over.
Yea! Burn that clutch down! :-{
if u think your about to be rear eneded your not going to have time to do this your just going to try and take off as smoothly and quickly as possible. this is kinda nonsense
I try to do yoga before my motorcycle ride on my 125cc. Would love more science on how it benefits motorcyclists vs non yoga motorcyclists.
How would Yoga benefit motorcycling??
It's all in the man bun and crash protection
@@enlightenedidiot9552 it is a motorcycle why would you say that? In the UK we have a different system than America anyway. We cant just hope onto a 600cc after we do our safety foundation course, that would be illegal.
@@log8746 flexibility and full mobility always benefits your riding
Lol
bad teacher with almost bold tyres
Rr
I wonder how often this guy has to replace his clutch 🤔
Not a hard job..
Usually quicker and cheaper than the hospital.
Marzipan
Fast and foolish haha noticed that
Poor helmet
720p in 2023.
Wow. How uninteresting.
Learn by experience.
Learning can come via experience or education. Education is just distilled experience, no? That is, education can be a shortcut to learnings gleaned from experience.
@@mranvo no sense in reasoning with those who don't value reason.
Another ridiculous video. If you're sitting at a stop light and need to take off so you don't get rear ended, taking the time to load the suspension with the brakes would take way longer than just taking off normally. The only way this would be faster is if you're just sitting there holding the brake and slipping the clutch the entire time you're waiting at a light and, in that case, you'll be replacing clutches once a month.
This is one reason why lane splitting should be legal in all states
