I made an electric go Kart about 50 years ago. I took an old Sears & Roebuck 2.5 HP gas engine Kids Go Kart and removed the tired old lawn mower engine. I used a motor I found at a military surplus store where I lived. It was a huge motor and ran on 24 volts. Two Marine batteries in series made the power. I made a motor mount that would hold the electric motor and mount to the old gasoline motor mounting plate. It took me three tries at different drive socket sizes to get the kart to go fairly fast. In fact, it was much faster than the gasoline motor version! The acceleration was neck-breaking!
I am a child, but i dont understand why does it needs to be a multigear ratio, wouldnt a simple gear ratio of about 1 to 6 be enough for a good torque?

You should use the ackerman principle for the steering arms - point them toward the centre of the rear axle to allow the turning differential circle radius when turning.

No , nothing to limit current apart from the lead batteries own internal resistance and the really low gears. The switches will burn out eventually. I doubt would work for long with lithium cells, too much current for those little switches.
@@rickyroaster Ah I see, a simple solution. I'm trying to build a gokart myself but the motor i'm using is from a treadmill. It operates at 90V and 25A and I've had trouble trying to find a suitable DC PWM controller for those specs.

conservation energy law, you can´t multiply energy, the total energy output must mandatorily be the same you input to the system, traditional cars can use and alternator because they spend fuel as energy in order to power it and charge the battery, besides, the 100% energy output is only feasible in an ideal system, the efficiency of a ¨ let´s say ¨ internal combustion motor is equal or below 70% which means the other 30% becomes useless heat . in a battery based system happens the same, the efficiency is not 100% so an amount of that energy is doom to be wasted as heat and how the amount of energy adding up ¨ thermal, electric and mechanical ¨ energy must be the same contained in the battery before it is used it´s imposible adding an alternator to have infinite energy.

Cool build although the electrical diagram could use some work. Interesting design but the drawing doesn't make sense. It works in the end but anyone else building it would have to figure it out on their own.
As long as you get good penetration you'll do just fine. Practice with the same gauge material you are going to use. Once you get good penetration than go for it. Good luck.
Not sure what a 100 Amazon welder is. Im guessing it's a stick welder. Do your research on the different types of welding rods (electrodes),make sure that they correctly match your welding machine i.e. AC or DC and output Voltage. Practice by welding pieces of the same material you plan on using for the kart. Then take a sledge hammer and see if your welds hold. Have fun
