    Hi Jane. I started viewing your videos more than 5 to 6 years ago, but I have not viewed any for a long time. It think your work on this watercolor project is fantastic as all of your other works. The one thing that I noticed is that even after the 5 to 6 years, you don't seem to change - you stay everyoung. I really appreciate your calm and pleasing voice during narration.
    Great work Jane. This was a great video.

    I've watched tons of watercolor technique videos and this one is the most in-depth one I've seen. Jane takes the time to explain and demo without rushing through it. Even to the very end, she patiently goes through the demos...I've found some teachers who seem to get impatient with the demos and rush through at the end. TY, Jane!

    This made me understand more about how watercolor works than other videos. I get now that we're just kind of guiding it along and shaping it to what we want but the paint does most of the work to create the paintings we see. I've always loved the way watercolor paintings look. It always has a very relaxed and happy vibe. It suits me quite well and as I'm watching this and learning more I'm seeing that is becoming more and more true in a more philosophical sense. I'm not sure if that makes sense but I feel like I'm ready to begin painting with watercolors now that I understand much more about them and I'm not intimidated by them like I was with other tutorials.
    On that note I truly appreciate your videos. You always have a very peaceful approach to teaching that makes me feel like I can learn whatever I want. I don't feel stress watching any of your videos because even if I'm not at the level of experience you are I feel like you're encouraging me rather than lording your experience above me. Your videos are what got me into painting and now it's become an intimate part of who I am. So I want to thank you for doing this.

    Stick the paper to a wooden board with masking tape. That'll also give you a good edge for framing later. Then get it wet, using a sponge, wait until dry and flat again. No more warping. I don't like the blocks. Have torn a few paintings when trying to lift them off. Eye shadows can work really great, too.

    You might want to try 100% cotton paper. The difference is amazing! I play around on Canson too when I'm just doodling or practising, but for art you want to keep for a long time, Arches 100% cotton is a lot better. You can also spray water on the back of your paper, and it helps with the warping if you don't want to tape it down :)

    Great video, thank you Jane!
    I have a question if anyone sees this comment at all... :) Why my paints does not stay on the palette? I use plastic palette and synthetic brushes, and whenever I try to lift off paint from the little "paint cubes" I have, they just wont stay on the palette - the brush soaks it all up or they just run together into a very tiny splash of paint, but it's nothing like Jane shows in the video. It's happening because of the paint's poor quality or my brushes are not the best...?

    • @PaintingwithJane
      @PaintingwithJane  2 роки тому

      Thank you! Part of it is probably just because you're still learning how to handle the paint. If you're coming to watercolor from acrylic, you're used to picking up acrylic paint which requires a little more effort. Watercolor requires a delicate touch. Also, I've noticed that brand new palettes are very slick and the paint doesn't stick to them. As you use them, the surface will rough up a little and the paint will stick better. To hasten this process, washe them with dish soap and use a scrubby sponge. Not steal wool, just something a little scrubby. That should help. And keep practicing! Practice, above all else, will make thing easier and bring improvement 💛

      @@PaintingwithJane Thanks for the tips! :) I'll keep practicing. Today I just did my "homework": testing my paints as you said in the video. It turned out to be a good fun, just seeing how the different colors do their thing on the paper.
