makes me miss our local track. Every memorial day weekend they had a 4spd gear jammer class that brought out 8 or 10 cars. worth every minute of them. Leaving at 7 grand on the bumper. sounded horrendous when they side stepped the clutch. I love it!!!
That's one beautiful Mopar. You did a great job driving and maintaining control. I think you might have better success if you lower those wheelie bars. The sooner those front tires are back on the ground, the sooner you can steer again which will prevent you from getting too far off center and having to let off. It would also help minimize lifting and bouncing which means better acceleration and faster ET's. Great job and I love that B5 blue!
Tubbed rear end is when you shorten up the rear axle in order to fit big(ger) slicks. Hurst shifter is a aftermarket manual transmission shifter. Google next time :)
Doesn't get much better than this. A built Hemi cuda with a lever between the seats. In days of old they all had levers in them, but with the technology in converters and slush boxes being what it is today there becoming more and more scarce.
I took my 70 SE challenger to ADCO raceway in south jersey...i had a boat 318 2 barrel an AAR CUDA 727 Auto trans i raced a 78 GS skylark i beat him to 60 foot mark by 3 cars almost had the front wheels off the ground with a stock 2 barrel 318 truck boat motor....it was fun.....same color as ur car thanks for sharing beautifull photos of ur cuda....
your instant center is too low .. move your top bars on the 4 link up one hole and then go from there .. this car look great in a wheelie but your loosing et everytime it goes up
Ass end is jacked up too high as well. Needs to have the tubs reworked and get the ass down lower. Maybe he didn't want to do so much cutting to the body. But when he one day hits a wall he'll wish he had. If you watch close when the ass squats there is a spring board action that lifts the front. Better shocks and lower stance will solve that. Moving the bars up one hole is a good start. Get racing bump stops for it to sit down on at full squat. WHeelies are fun and look cool but eventually they lead to breaking shit or hitting walls.
If he owns a Hemi Cuda and knows how to shift like that I'm pretty sure he knows about 4 link setup but doesn't care about e.t. as much as running it like an old school superstock car . Which is exactly how it launches . Awesome car ! and props to him for knowing how to shift that beast .
My ideal racecar: b5 blue....or any stock color, really. And thank God- not covered with stickers. A mopar big block. A 4-speed. And it runs in the 9's. Amazing! Sounds and looks great.
Me too but mine wasn't a cuda it was a barracuda gran coupe b5 blue with a white vinyl top and a 383 automatic console slap stik. I bought the car in 81' for 320 bucks. Loved that car
when i first saw the wheelie bars i said what?,then i noticed it was a stick car climbing that ring gear, all the greats had trouble racing the stick hemi's,the hemi made so much power and torque under 8000rpm it was frightening, the DANA even had trouble holding them, about 60 runs and and its ring gear time, mopar or nothing
I loved seeing vintage muscle like this Cuda on the track back in the eighties when they were frequently still seen. Problem is now that cars like the Hemi Cuda have shot up into the stratosphere in terms of value, you are hard pressed to see one running quarter miles like this in 2018. I can't blame the owners of cars like this though, if you own one nowadays, its almost an investment or retirement fund, your talking serious cash so you want to be careful with it.
I still see tons of them in Ga. A lot of those cars are clones or cars that had 318’s and such but are now modified with money. It’s their toy and they have fun with it. I built a 67 gear jammer and I have tons of fun with it. Now an original hemi Cuda….those are rare to see racing but you’ll see tons of non factory hemi cars still blasting down the strip.
@MotorsbyShooter No, he"s all over the place because the wheelie bars are set so high there of little use, drop those bars down about 8" and that thing would go forward in stead of sky word.
I swear this is a car I use to watch in Cicero NY at ESTA drag strip called "The Blue Angel" It was the exact same color Cuda, with a Hemi, and he was pulling wheelies too!!
you said it brother, ive had a 55 chev,2 68 impalas,4 camaros,a 72 chevelle and any cuda would make me an instant mopar guy.A.A.R ,440,hemi,340 whatever
That's a badass machine right there and looks soooo much better than any ricer and will still be admired and around in 100yrs, unlike the plastic toy carz. They will be a recycled coke cans and someone's laptop or toilet seat for all of its plastic which is about 90 %, so it will be good for lots of shitters hahaha. Most importantly that good old Detroit iron has so much incredible personality and a continuous long lasting history with many generations that absolutely love these cars, and I am one of them and had my son around these rides since he was a little guy. It goes pretty deep and when he was just a toddler, his mom would put him in the front seat of the 70 Plymouth Roadrunner that I was restoring so that he could play as he watched me work. So we have a lot of memories that are priceless and were centered around these rides, so there's much more to their story that the ricer guys will never possibly comprehend or understand. The others have no soul or personality and pretty much all basically look the same, but these awesome V8 powered machines are true drag cars with American spirit and represent the greatest generation to ever live as far as ingenuity, strength and productivity goes anyways...its the way it is and just sayin
Pretty car....u know i miss the quality...i had 6 cudas an challengers..all bought in 1982 era for 1200 to 1500 dollars everything worked nothing on the car used was broke...except AC because it didnt have AC all the windows locks worked door handles etc...not like todays junk....i bought a 71 b5 blue 383 cuda rust free AT trans but lost my storage 800 dollars i d wish i d held on to that one but i loved my challengers more i was driving a 73 340 RT challenger at the time....i didnt know big blocks were more valuble then.....peace nice sunday driving hah hah
He really ought to adjust them wheelie bars so as to minimize that wheel stand. That is unless he is trying to get some insurance money or something out of wrecking that car.
Gotta love a gnarly hemi! And to all the keyboard racers who reckon they could do better, let us see your nine second passes with a four speed manual then!
Yeah she definately got some work done to it 9 .45 at 145 mph that a nice number for a 4050 pound car ....probably could tighten the shocks or tortion bars a little an it would carry the front more an lift it slower an hold it longer....guy said ur driving a 4 speed nice driving too...do they make adjustable compression an rebound shocks front shocks for ur 70 cuda...i race bikes.....
I could watch this video all day long low 9´s hahahaha holy shit ... and the ´Cuda is NATURALLY ASPIRED and looks still like a daily driver :D that´s what I call a BAD FISH
nope he would not go faster if he lowered the bars... he shifts to second during the lift which means he gains momentum whilst the car is on its way down, rocketing him of even more. thats a tactic they use in alot of classes
Gotta admit, I prefer stock sized wheels on muscle cars. Drag slicks are definitely better than gangster wheels though, so I've always hated what Foose does to cars. I also like that he manages to get respectable power out of it without having an ugly ass blower sticking out of the hood.

Even with a high and bouncy wheelie launch, the guy cut a 9.49 with a stick. Respect!
makes me miss our local track. Every memorial day weekend they had a 4spd gear jammer class that brought out 8 or 10 cars. worth every minute of them. Leaving at 7 grand on the bumper. sounded horrendous when they side stepped the clutch. I love it!!!
This deserves the title as king of all muscle cars. LONG LIVE PLYMOUTH!
long live the 60's and 70's mopars. the best.
Holy shit! What a beautiful beast! Amazing!
I love the Coda.
That's one beautiful Mopar. You did a great job driving and maintaining control. I think you might have better success if you lower those wheelie bars. What an awesome car..Thanks for sharing the video.
What a beautiful color it is. My 1970 Plymouth Duster was the same color. 318 CI with a three speed manual in the floor. I really loved my Duster.
Tubbed rear end is when you shorten up the rear axle in order to fit big(ger) slicks. Hurst shifter is a aftermarket manual transmission shifter. Google next time :)
Fast.
A Cuda
& a 4 speed.
Life is complete.
My car when I was 16 years old (Shaker Hood). Won a trophy at So. Glens Falls NY beating an A-Modified.
Doesn't get much better than this. A built Hemi cuda with a lever between the seats. In days of old they all had levers in them, but with the technology in converters and slush boxes being what it is today there becoming more and more scarce.
Mopars were good looking cars and fast!
Awesome ride,'70 was the best look imo.. says it all "Badass "Cuda!!!
Love the '70 Cuda,and especially in the B5 blue.I'll take it,thank you.
I took my 70 SE challenger to ADCO raceway in south jersey...i had a boat 318 2 barrel an AAR CUDA 727 Auto trans i raced a 78 GS skylark i beat him to 60 foot mark by 3 cars almost had the front wheels off the ground with a stock 2 barrel 318 truck boat motor....it was fun.....same color as ur car thanks for sharing beautifull photos of ur cuda....

fingers967 iii
Armful lot of money in that to be bouncin up and down the track.
my 64 malibu lost time also in wheeling and jumping but i managed to also tune the 4 link to run 9.6 on pump gas 468.
If he owns a Hemi Cuda and knows how to shift like that I'm pretty sure he knows about 4 link setup but doesn't care about e.t. as much as running it like an old school superstock car . Which is exactly how it launches . Awesome car ! and props to him for knowing how to shift that beast .

It has way MORE than 650 hp! I have his DYNO sheets in my office!
I dig that gear drive whine!
How can anyone that likes racing not like this car?? I'm a Ford fan and I love it!!
Had a '70 B5 shaker 'Cuda in 1981. paid $300 for it , no Hemi, 383.
Me too but mine wasn't a cuda it was a barracuda gran coupe b5 blue with a white vinyl top and a 383 automatic console slap stik. I bought the car in 81' for 320 bucks. Loved that car
That's one awesome Cuda right there!!
This was & still is a factory race car from 1970. It has been raced since day 1 of purchase.
Best of the Mopars IMO. Wonder how much the wheelie slows the car down?
I admit I don't know much about cars, but can't help admire this beast. It's like a friggin rocket taking off.
Its a 8 second car if he could get it not to wheelie and get it to leave straight.
The black guy flipping out in the background is hilarious.
I agree with him.
Oh yeah, and this car is like the best ever!
Anybody who has the Cajhones to grab gears while they are looking at a really high Horizon like that is ok in my book!
when i first saw the wheelie bars i said what?,then i noticed it was a stick car climbing that ring gear, all the greats had trouble racing the stick hemi's,the hemi made so much power and torque under 8000rpm it was frightening, the DANA even had trouble holding them, about 60 runs and and its ring gear time, mopar or nothing

I grew up in those days. Hemi Cudas were always rare.
Wheelie bars are adjusted for showing off instead of going straight and fast.
He hooks really good, and he ain't hate'n on those tires. Here's proof you don't always need a big smokey burn out to hook.
Massively
Over
Powered and
Respected
That is just one BADASS CUDA!!!
Another of top ten muscle cars❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hands at 10 and 2, and 6, 8, and 4! bet that was a hell of a ride!
I check my favorites here oh say every other month, the very first one is this vid, cAnt get enough of this beauty of a car :)
Now this is the way they were meant to be ..Thumbs up..
Aaah - going back to the day when cars like this were the norm, not the exception . . .
That's a beauty. Need to do some tuning on the wheelie bar though...
That is a beautiful blue color.. Yepppp it's a MOPAR world...Shweeeett...
my friend Duster ran that Down at Capitol with Koffels Place 500" B-1 , 1990S
THAT SWEET HEMI SOUND!!!
How about some info on this car; engine build, owner, location, etc., that would be interesting. Love the car; the sound brings back memories.
Shit now I want one.
Such a badass old ride.
im a chevy guy all my life, but the hemi cuda with a stick will convert me
Same here dude!
you said it brother, ive had a 55 chev,2 68 impalas,4 camaros,a 72 chevelle and any cuda would make me an instant mopar guy.A.A.R ,440,hemi,340 whatever
larry lomascolo new I've seen some bass ass 6 second chevys
My friend's '69 Chevy Nova with a 434 sbc runs 9:0's on a 10" tire. On N2O, it's in the 8's.

I think I came a little when he started it up. Wow that's a nice cuda! Reminds, me of ny dads,
This one ran more like mine, I ran B (Stock) and beat an A-Modified Chevelle - most fun car I ever owned.
yeah, you had a 9 second cuda when you were 16,please add details, pics etc.
10.13
Nice video and a thumbs up for you.
He really ought to adjust them wheelie bars so as to minimize that wheel stand. That is unless he is trying to get some insurance money or something out of wrecking that car.
Insurance won't pay if you reck your car at the dragstrip
@@lemans3507 lol 💯
Super clean and bad ass..
Awesome cuda
that is the most badass car
Gotta love a gnarly hemi!
And to all the keyboard racers who reckon they could do better, let us see your nine second passes with a four speed manual then!
It's been 9years, and you only have 1 thumbs up, and you probably did that.👍
If you could ever that thing to launch straight your times would be awesome, LOVE THE WHEELIES....BAD MOFO HEMI.....my dreams to run 8-9s
first you'll need a car,then you'll need 900 to 1000 horsepower,then you'll need a driver that can manage it.
Add 2 leaf springs to the passenger side will help it track straight.
+James Mackinlay
That is an old trick that worked back in the day, this car has coil overs & ladder bars.
so ,should he take the race prepared 4 link setup out of the car and install leafs?whats your professional opinion"?
Ford guy for life it I do like the old mopar cars Sharpe and fast.
Damn twice the weight of a ricer and twice the fun!
i imagine this guy was like god damn im ganna get robbed or something at the begining of this video lol but awesome vid. and sweet mopar!
I could watch this video all day long
low 9´s hahahaha holy shit ... and the ´Cuda is NATURALLY ASPIRED and looks still like a daily driver :D
that´s what I call a BAD FISH
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 9:49 ET !!!!!! 145+ MPH on the 1320 !!!!!
I don't give a fuck how he drives, it's still a bad ass car.
Solid numbers 9.49 seconds easy 8 or 6 second car when going straight it's a lightweight muscle car 9.49 seconds is quick
If we who owned Cuda in the 70s knew how much they would be worth in the future, would have taken better care of em.
Man that thing Hooks!
I wonder where that beast is today in 2022?
What!.. Ya makin up excuses for him?...LOL! That's a neat car!!
a true beautiful Beast! but truly narrow that rear end a bit or you will end up on the wall
Very very nice!
too badass for it's own good
and a chainsaw (honduh) starts running around 2:14
looks like one of those muscle machine toys.
Insaneicuda
nope he would not go faster if he lowered the bars... he shifts to second during the lift which means he gains momentum whilst the car is on its way down, rocketing him of even more. thats a tactic they use in alot of classes
Nice car!!!
Pure American muscle!
King Kong right here buddy!
very sick, brutal car with a baddass driver.i love that car,i mean more than any female on earth,i love it that much.
oh yeh he can drive real well,im betting you would have a hard time on a bicycle
Too much tip in at the top of front tire for the mopar front suspension.
Maybe too much rear air pressure.
Bad ass machine
he appears to know a whole lot more than these keyboard idiots that dont even own a drag car
Are you replying to me?
And are you calling me a keyboard idiot who doesn't own a drag car? Just curious
yhanks for the responce, being honest here, but what does that do for the hemi? :)
Gotta admit, I prefer stock sized wheels on muscle cars. Drag slicks are definitely better than gangster wheels though, so I've always hated what Foose does to cars.
I also like that he manages to get respectable power out of it without having an ugly ass blower sticking out of the hood.
Bad boy Cuda
For sure
Now that's what I call a pair of "Fat Daddies" bringing up the rear!
WOW. LISTEN TO THIS BABY PUR!
How's that beast doing these days ? Stay safe
i love how its some old duffer driving it
This is why God invented wheelie bars
+Jim E thank him lol

Thank you,,,heh.heh Did not want to see body parts today...he he.
That's when Chrysler Corp could build a vehicle! No more. Those days are gone 😭
At least he knows how to drive it! Wheels up are cool but you Need a better rear suspension
