I know this video is a little old, but I have one of these Nano HDs and it works great. I have 400Mbs cable internet, with my old all in one type wireless router I only go about 130Mbs on my phone and laptop. Then I got a Ubiqiuti USG, Cloud key and a Nano HD ap. Now I get around 480Mbs average from the Nano HD. I'm planning on adding 3 more around the furthest parts of my house away from the first one, love these things.
Do an IPerf benchmark of these APs. Not an internet speed test. These aps are significantly faster than an average US broadband connection can throughput.
Hi Chris I’ve got 5 access points around my property and a few inwalls. Do i need to set each one to a different channel or leave them on auto. I only ask because i notice they seem to use the same channel. Can you let me know what you think. Thank you
On auto, they should pick different channels, if they are far enough apart they might choose the same channel or one that is least busy. I manually see what frequency is least popular on each unit the set them manually. Making sure you leave a gap. I think crosstalk or Willy Howe might have some better videos on setting up bands for your aps. But check your WiFi experience chart, if everything is green and seems to be working you can leave it alone. :)
Chris, what has Ubiquiti said about doing a UA-cam review of a Beta product, I heard they did t really like them getting done? The unit looks great I have just installed a AP-Lite for my upstairs which will is not a high density user area. What about the distance usage is it better than a AP-Lite?
As for distance, I haven't tried. Even through released they are still smoothing out the firmware so I want to give it some time before I do my follow up.
Hi Chris, I live in a densely populated apartment complex with heavy bearing walls where 2.4Ghz wifi is pretty much unusable and 5Ghz wifi has poor coverage. I recently decided to run 3 unifi APs only in 5Ghz along with unifi router and switch at home. But I haven't decided on which AP to buy yet. I have a 1000Mbps symmetrical connection, and I use NAS quite heavily to transfer large files. Would you say the nanoHD is a better choice over the AC-PRO? I found it difficult to resist the "latest product", but the AC-PRO is more proven. Thanks in advance!
AyazakuraRinne hey, so I'm on many many more firmware revisions since this video. It has improved allot. It's still missing a few things like the frequency scanner. But it's a small capable unit. If you want something stable the AC pros are the way to go, but this being newer will get more attention now on. And with wave 2 being the newest protocol, that can't be back ported to the older hardware. So I would say yeah pick this up you won't be disappointed. If you're in busy areas run your hardware on low to medium power, this let's you're devices swap between points quicker and will significantly improve dead spots. I'm still trying to find a wave 2 client to test through put!
Really appreciate that! I will definitely give nanoHD a shot! I currently use a intel 9260 that should take advantage of wave 2. I have also seen some qualcomm based 3x3 and 4x4 wave 2 cards available in shops in Tokyo, not sure how these perform though.
I dont think any of the HD lines come with injectors. They are guessing only pros with poe switching will install these. I bought a switch 8 poe+ for 199 that powers my cams and wifi aps
Technology that is still not working and only available on 802.11ac downlink / not uplink spectrum only when 2 devices are connected to same ac signal Because 2g 802.11n creates self interference with poor download on anything less than 80mhz frequency that ac uses Qualcomm / broadcom still unable to get mu-mimo chips working correctly in 2019 but still marketed on every router packaging Mu-mimo / wave 2 introduced by asus rt-ac87u & netgear c7500 nighthawk x4 in 2014 still have no firmware upgrades to enable this feature So the next step is introduce expensive multi antenna twin radio 802.11ac devices that switch back to single mimo in the hopes people would not notice Even new 802.11ax coming soon still plagued with same issues So when you see little to no benefits you know why Apple will not produce any mu-mimo enabled device and samsung s6 and onwards work poorly/ only tested mu-mimo smartphone with little speed increase is google pixel line Save your money until manufacturers stop hiding details in fine print
Yeah, there is literally no one supporting this, even UniFi bump a firmware update for this device multiple times a week. Looks like we still have a ways to go. For now I will maintain, use a cable where possible.

Cool, glad to hear it!
You should really invest in a mic and cut the background music
hteichmann I have picked up a lav mic now, I'll knock the background music down some more. Thanks for the feedback! 👍

Got my hopes up hearing British accent that you can pick these up in the UK alas by the Speedtest he is in Colorado.
Robin D'Arcy Really annoying because I recently picked up more AC Pro's would love to have gotten these instead.
Sorry

You shouldn't do it, and ask for permission or wait for the device to be released before publish.
As for distance, I haven't tried. Even through released they are still smoothing out the firmware so I want to give it some time before I do my follow up.
Is the Nano HD big enough still to cover the holes from a Unifi AC Pro?
Brett no, it's smaller, like the AC lite.
Where did you pick this up at so early?!
Stellar Moig it was a testing unit. It's improved allot since I filmed this
Try being farther away from it. I've always had the best luck being at least 20 feet away from Unifi equipment.

AyazakuraRinne cool, feel free to link, would love to try one out so I can do a follow up video
If you are part of the beta program part of the agreement is that you don't show or talk about beta products before general release.
Jarrod Hinkle yup correct.
Can i power this AP with the 8 port switch (NON 60 WATT just the 8 port switch)
yes
No PoE injector in box?
John Malkovich very good point I forgot to mention that! Yeah no Poe injector
I dont think any of the HD lines come with injectors. They are guessing only pros with poe switching will install these. I bought a switch 8 poe+ for 199 that powers my cams and wifi aps
I got a poe injector with my nanohd, my box was white
I believe it does now come with a POE injector

Background music is a no no
yeah, removing that from future vids (also got a lav mic now).
how the hell did you get this so early
houssem feliachi as mentioned in another post this was a beta unit. I'll do a follow up with the latest firmware.
Any amount of jitter whatsoever is a nono for gaming. Even 1ms jitter.
Technology that is still not working and only available on 802.11ac downlink / not uplink spectrum only when 2 devices are connected to same ac signal
Because 2g 802.11n creates self interference with poor download on anything less than 80mhz frequency that ac uses
Qualcomm / broadcom still unable to get mu-mimo chips working correctly in 2019 but still marketed on every router packaging
Mu-mimo / wave 2 introduced by asus rt-ac87u & netgear c7500 nighthawk x4 in 2014 still have no firmware upgrades to enable this feature
So the next step is introduce expensive multi antenna twin radio 802.11ac devices that switch back to single mimo in the hopes people would not notice
Even new 802.11ax coming soon still plagued with same issues
So when you see little to no benefits you know why
Apple will not produce any mu-mimo enabled device and samsung s6 and onwards work poorly/ only tested mu-mimo smartphone with little speed increase is google pixel line

Hi Mr.Jenkins
get a lav mic please please please
On my list. If you have any suggestions let me know.
where poe adaptor?
Mulyadi Mustamin no Poe adapters with these units
