Making my UniFi In-Wall access point "HD"!

so these can be mounted down low near an outlet? I was assuming they needed to be mounted higher up on the wall. Can they be behind a desk or other furniture?

We had them behind TV media cabinets, desk height, clear line of sight is always going to be better, the main thing if theres obstructions is 5Ghz band gets weaker (doesn't penetrate as much as 2.4Ghz). We had 5 in our old 3500Sq/ft house, and that was more than enough (probably overkill), but I ran more of them at lower power.
They are more designed for hotels etc, where you put one in each room and they have brick between the rooms to isolate the signals more.

Hi Chris,
With the older AC In-Walls, you CAN turn off the POE on Port 1 by creating a custom port profile and applying it to the Port. I guess, behind the scenes its doing the same thing as the option you found for the HD in-Wall. I do this for my AC in-wall to allow me to use Port 1 with a non-POE device.

I know, problem is that profile isn't applied during boot up on the older ones this one does which is really nice. So I found issues where when it was booting it would deliver power to the attached device. Not great unless you need that..

Just passive, womp womp. We'll see if the InWall 6's are 802 and I think that they will also be 2.5Gbps uplinks

I still wonder why UBNT calls this in-wall when the only thing in the wall is the screws and the ethernet cable.

ikkuranus Older model it was located deep within a drywall box. This is more versatile especially for European homes where smaller in wall boxes are the standard. In my installation we had to crimp our own cables to get them just the right length as the shield around the connector made it almost impossible to fit.

Hello. I am sure you are only supposed to use channel 1 or 6 or 11 for 2.4ghz frequencies, otherwise you will have overlap and cause interference. Have a quick look on google for that topic.

Only if you are using the full 40mhz, which I don't because there's to much interference.
I'll need to channel planning video I guess you show people how to calculate it.

Actually it applies to 20mhz, “With 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, there are four non-overlapping 20 MHz channels: 1, 6, 11, and 14.”

Christopher Jenkins thanks man! I currently have an edgerouter infinity, can I plug the APs directly into it or do I need a special controller?

@@javilionaire the unifi aps require unifi controller for setup. So you can run the controller on your computer if you like once setup they don't need the controller. However with newer features it's recommend to run a controller. They have dedicated hardware, but can run on any vm or docker if you have a server setup.
As for hardware the aps are Poe and run over cat5e+ cables so you would need some form of Poe switch to run the aps as the edge router does not have Poe

Christopher Jenkins awesome, that makes sense, thank you! What PoE switch would you recommend that can take SFP+ as an input? And also has a couple couple SFP+ outputs? While also having a few POEs for the APs? I have a 3gb internet connection and my computer is the only thing that is capable of using the full 2gb, so i’d need to connect to the switch to my desktop as well as the APs

@@javilionaire dang, yeah you need the newer stuff which has more sfp+ port's. I haven't looked into it much, but I think they have a edge switch XG which is 16 10G port's but no Poe, it's tricky they don't really have something which does both. Probably a combination of the 10xp and 16xg. You'll have to weigh up what you need.
You can turn the unused port's on your infinity into switching port's and maybe use a newer Poe switch with the 10g uplinks.
