I realized I had ADHD when I took it and felt so calm and things just felt like I could actually organize my life and focus. I felt normal and stopped zoning out every 30 minutes. I could actually clean my house ans get my to-do lists done man.
Same here. I was always lost in thought and it was brought to my attention many times. I dismissed it as I’m just a deep thinker or an intellectual (arrogant, I know) Meanwhile I’m getting lost in conversations, especially in groups and my life was completely disorganized. Balancing high school and sports is one thing. But college, a job, health (I’m getting older) and a social life is a completely different animal. My life has been so much better since my prescription (3 yrs) and I hope you all share a similar experience :)
What is this supposed to mean? It's not as if studies can utilise small sample sizes in a way that surveys cannot... Your sample size is going to affect the validity and reliability of your results; it's as simple as that.
well, usually it's difficult to find participants and/or funding for studies. Studies like these are, as far as I know, meant to give a pointer and something for practising professionals (e.g. those that deal with people taking Adderall for varying reasons) to take into account and document. At some point what these professionals have found might find its way into a different paper that then has more validity. (technically a number of replication studies would be ideal to increase validity and reliability - but no way in hell you find anyone who provides the funding for those replication studies)
32 people is definitely is too small sample size to be anywhere conclusive. Since assuming they divide the group equally, it would be 8 people in each group, this is too small and other affects might come into play like gender, age, physical and emotional well being and their base intelligence in the first place.
"Adderall is a growing problem" NO. Misuse and abuse of Adderall is a growing problem. This video is contributing to the stigma surrounding a medication that can really help people with ADHD lead more stable, fulfilled lives. If you're going to focus on only the negative effects and abuse, say that. Don't act like this is really a helpful, all-encompassing video about how the drug works as intended.
@@Rhettm0413 If you think its a crutch for people to take Adderall for an unpreventable and untreatable neurological disorder you're incredibly ignorant beyond help, or you're just an edgy 10 year old trying to sound cool. Either way it's almost funny
@@lukesanchez1024 I looked it up like you said; read from about 3-4 different websites and I see a long list thats common with many neurological medications, is there one in specific you're referencing?
It's not all about learning easier most the time, it's about just helping motivate a person to study in the first place. Meth is notorious for having people tweak out and clean their house all day. Adderall is like Meth Ultra Light, you become much more motivated to get stuff done. That's why people take it to study, because otherwise they just wouldn't or would study less.

@@sh4dow_164 No, unless you're taking pure amphetamine and even then still no. Adderall is a mixture of like 5 different amphetamine salts. They all have different effects, hence why they use a mix of salts and not just prescribe straight up amphetamine. Amphetamine itself has a similar molecular structure. The only difference is the Methamphetamine has an extra methyl-group (CH3) which on paper looks insignificant, but in actuality it makes meth SUBSTANTIALLY stronger in terms of its effects the "high" that it produces.
"LoL iTs baSIcAlLy mEth" my husband has adhd and this statement is what stopped him at first from taking the medication. This was until an educated person taught him what it really was and it has changed his life. And a blind test with 32 people is not near enough to make any arguments.
If you take ten times the proper dose it is basically meth with a worse come down. Of course there's a big difference between use and abuse, but it's a bad drug to abuse.
@@popinmo If you're technical then it's not meth. It's not the same molecule and meth is a lot more potent. If you abuse Adderall by taking a way too large doses however, the subjective experience is almost identical to that of using meth. Meth is also worse because you smoke it. It makes you react almost instantly, thereby making your brain associate the high with the act of smoking meth.
Adderall are amazing. I was severely traumatized years ago as a teenage, got diagnosed with ADHD. Spent my whole life fighting ADHD. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my mom recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.
I love hearing great life changing stories like this. I don't know much about these mushrooms. Really need a reliable source!! Can't wait to get them
YES sure of mycologist Predroshrooms. Mushrooms literally got me off my feet and turned my whole life around. I am currently a housing manager for a recovery program. I wouldn't have been able to do that shit without psilocybin.

What we know as Adderall today was actually sold as Obetrol, a weight loss pill, but in the 90s was rebranded as Adderall to treat ADHD. This video glosses over a lot. As someone with ADHD myself, more could've been said about how it's abuse has made legitimate treatment of ADHD less accessable. It's getting harder and harder for people with ADHD to get prescribed medication or even be diagnosed for ADHD.

"Take measures to protect people" orrrrr maybe fix the school system so kids aren't overloaded with work to the point where they feel like they have to use adderall to meet these ridiculous expectations
Oh yes what a hard life we have, the problem with the school system is not the amount of work, the problem is how schools teach. Instructional based teaching is not the way to go, teach why we really study, and not just to get a good job, make kids and die. Once you know why you study and learn, the amount does not matter anymore.

it's all flawed. being brought through the American school system, it's ingrained in your head that "more is better". More AP's, more extra curricular, more everything. All of it riding on you getting into a good college. Currently, as a junior in highschool, I take 2 AP's, 2 honors, 2 regular classes, school band, I participate in my schools Model UN program which is very time consuming, and I have a job. On any given night my school work will consist of 2-3 hours of work and that's after I get home at 5 on a regular day. With after school activities sometimes I can get home at 7 and work on the weekends leaves me with very little free time. It's incredibly stressful and there's no disputing that. Kids need social lives and free time to be kids! I know kids who are taking 4 AP's as juniors and when I ask why they take them they say "it's what colleges want". No one can tell me that's the right way to think about school

Something that needs to be added to the conversation is the perspective of those of us who need stimulants due to ADHD. I love that you said we need to protect people, I totally agree with that. Just remember that needs to include folks who are neurodivergant and need the medication, not just the neurotypical folks who are abusing it.
100% agreed. I'm a chronic pain patient, and people like me are getting hit hard by all these new restrictions and laws on our medications. I'm certain that it's the same for ADHD patients who take Adderall. And I can't help but roll my eyes when people in favor of restrictive laws tell us "you can get your medicine". Doctors are way too scared of the DEA to prescribe certain meds, and they are trained to view everyone with suspicion. We need better addiction resources, not further prohibition for people who get their medication legally.
THIS. My adhd meds allow me to function normally in life and at my job. I hate that its referred to as "study candy" by so many. Without it I would be an absolute disaster in daily life and work.
Yes. ADHD has been absolutely horrific for me, before I was diagnosed I couldn't hold a job, was extremely depressed, tried to take my life multiple times. I always had an inkling that I had ADHD, but I didn't realize it was affecting my life so drastically. If you think you have ADHD and need to try stimulant medication, don't let others make you feel badly about it. You know yourself the most. ADHD is real, and it's also Really hard.
Absolutely. This video even makes it seem like Adderall and meth are equivalent and is super misleading. It also points out the increase in people taking it. An estimated 8% of the population has ADHD, and stimulants like Adderall, Ritalin, Vyvanse, etc. are the most effective treatment. As more of that 8% gets diagnosed, of course we are going to see the increase in use of these drugs. Even more damning is drawing attention to a study with a very small sample size and ignoring the fact that stimulant medications are among the most studied in pharmacological history, demonstrating that these medications work for those that take them, and are safe if taken as prescribed. Videos like these don't do those who actually need these medications to treat their condition any favors. They just stigmatize the use of the drug (whether use or abuse), and, whether intentional or not, contribute to public perception of these drugs being bad, and making them more difficult to obtain for those who need them to function normally.
I love this discussion and am fascinated by this conversation. Why shouldn’t nuerotypicals be able to use the stimulant drug to help them write an essay or get things done as they find the medication helpful too? If they want to use it in a controlled way that isn’t hurting themselves or anyone else why can’t they? I mean I understand why not for professional sports, but I’m talking everyday life. If someone without adhd wants to enhance their cognitive performance for their job per say- why should we limit them from doing so?
Took it for years and it helped so much. A couple of years ago I came off of it immediately (thinking there were side effects that actually were attributed to my birth control) and I didn’t have any dependency issues or withdrawal. It helped me so much and I’m so thankful to be able to take it again and feel like a normal student with decent attention.

So if you have ADHD (like myself) and take Adderall (like myself) you’re saying I’m no better than a methhead? Sorry I just wanted to focus🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♂️ edit: i (now 18f) have learned sooooo much about Adderalll and ADHD since i commented this and i am still very correct. Someone with ADHD isn’t comparable to a drug addict in the slightest. We don’t take the medication to get high, we take it so that our brains can function normally. we lack dopamine and serotonin and our brains aren’t properly stimulated like others. the medicine stimulates our brains allowing us to focus and have clarity while also helping with depression, anxiety, RSD, and many many more things that go hand-in-hand with adhd. this video is not only ignorant, but is STILL spreading misinformation and stigmatizing a very real mental illness and struggle for many people.
@Ryan Solecki I would ask you go watch the video again (I also have ADHD) if you pay attention a bit more you can see the little tidbits of bias and misinformation. Examples "The amount of prescriptions has doubled since 2007!" Yeah that was more then a decade ago, also what was the original percentage of prescriptions? Also the study w/ 32 people come on. And the fact that they suggest that adderall is the same as meth (side note pharmaceutical grade methamphetamine is used to treat ADHD and I have heard its relatively safe and possibly better than adderall) can we stop comparing highly complicatedly engineered pharmacological pills with crystals of undistilled and most likely overused(in this context i mean taking more than a recommended/safe dose) street drug?

Thanks for adding stigma. As someone with ADHD, it was hard enough to get Concerta to actually be able to focus in school. Took me YEARS to get the treatment I needed. This year, with a combination of medication and therapy, I graduated sophomore year with all A’s except for a B in Geometry.
I'm really trying not to be all "offended by nothing", but it kind of bothers me that they're comparing it to Meth and not having clear disclaimers/wording about its affects. For someone with ADHD, it can be a live-changing medication that they need to function. There ARE significant improvements in cognitive tests for people with ADHD, but not for people without ADHD. They don't make the clear distinction between someone with ADHD taking a therapeutic dose, and someone who is abusing. It only adds to the stigma of people with ADHD taking these medications :(
And you know that they'll never address this. There won't be any apology video that clears it all up. The amount of people who have ADHD who are complaining is tiny and they can just brush us all off.
Methamphetamine and amphetamine are quite similar. The main difference is that methamphetamine is a lot stronger than amphetamine/dextroamphetamine. However, there is a huuuuge difference between a therapeutic dose to treat a medical condition and recreational usage. Desoxyn is actually a brand-name version of methamphetamine that is used to treat the same conditions that amphetamine/dextroamphetamine treats--ADHD and narcolepsy.
To put it plainly, if you abuse ANY medication, you can have some nasty consequences. That doesn't mean that the medication is bad in the regular dosages. Tylenol can cause liver damage when in high dosages, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't take the recommended dose (if you need it, obviously).
They also want to plausable deniability because adderall is actually meth.. the only difference is that you smoke or inject meth.. You could do the same with adderall..
@@mike-0451 Ofcoarse not. Meth is smoked and/or injected and adderall is ingested and is a smaller dose and full of fillers. But you eat 20 adderall expect to be tweaking later on... I have never taken either of these substances so I only know by others experience. I could be wrong.
@@enrott8560 I've taken both but I don't need to take them to know they're different. Methamphetamine is significantly stringer as it passes through the blood brain barrier much quicker. Also you don't "eat 20 adderall". That's called an overdose and people don't take adderall because they like the taste.
@@mike-0451 I meant taking a lot of adderall will make you feel high. Not specifically '20'... Also you cannot smoke or inject adderall. So how do you know meth actually passes your blood brain barrier faster? It could literally be due to how you take it?
It's not all about learning easier most the time, it's more about motivation. You become much more motivated to get stuff done and focused on the task. You don't do the Task better but your more motivated to start and more detail oriented. It's not about absorbing the information, it's about getting yourself to actually TRY and absorb it. With the same motivation levels Adderall doesn't help...but most people aren't super motivated to do monotonous assignments or study sessions hence the Adderall

Thanks for putting out a video that harmfully stereotypes a medication making it more difficult (in a very small measure) for people who need stimulus medication, for their nuero divergences, that much harder to get. Saying it’s meth or “cousins” of meth is like saying a prescribed painkiller is similar to H…. Thanks.
The only stereotype comes from your head. Adderall produces similar effects and is chemically similar to Meth, that's just a fact. Also ironically, a prescribed painkiller IS similar to Heroin. Both Codeine and Heroin get metabolized into Morphine. The differences between the two are more extensive, but they're both opioids and they both produce effects in similar ways. Not only that, but Heroin is regularly used as a painkiller in some hospitals as "Diamorphine". Societally, we learn to think of 'meds' and 'drugs' very differently, even though there's literally no reason to believe this. The truth is, we have many chemicals that affect the brain, and many of them can be used safely if proper measures are taken.
As someone with really bad ADHD Adderall keeps me employable. Before Adderall, I had been fired 7 times. Now I'm a top producer at my job. It grinds my gears to see 'normal' people abusing using it as it makes it really difficult for people like me that really need it to get it.
That was a pretty inconclusive study mentioned, and video in general. 1. Sample size was way too small (32 people, really?) 2. The drug was administered to ONLY those who do NOT need it. (Equivalent to someone with 0.5% body fat taking diet pills, then wondering why they didn't lose weight) 3. Many variables were not mentioned. (Such as; people who actually have ADHD, Age, Gender, length of time administered, release rates, dosage, etc.) 4. The fact that when some people take Adderall when they are not diagnosed with ADHD, the effects of the stimulant can be the opposite of those expected. 5. And much more You can do better than this AsapScience!! There is much more relevant research readily available, and I hope you decide to create a much more accurate video about a drug that you see as a generation-wide issue. .....Or maybe its just my lack of dopamine that causes me to keep researching, rather than stopping after finding one study and being happy with that......
Yes, but the first thing mentioned in the video is what the drug was developed for. Yet the study they quote is regarding the "abuse" of adderall because they studied people who are not supposed to be taking it; like the example I stated regarding a skinny person taking diet pills.
Also the participants in the study took adderall and completed a cognitive test. The reason non ADHD people take adderall in the first place is to help with STUDYING for a test. The participants never studied for an exam. No one takes adderall and immediately expects to be smarter
@@NothingMoreThanMyAss I agree with your point. I'd assume it's used more for short-term gain, like for passing exams, as opposed to long-term information retention.

Definitely not the feeling of a “high” from alc or weed, so I don’t see a need to abuse it, for those with an addictive personality. But feeling “normal” and seeing how literally 80% of the world lives their lives on easy mode is so life changing haha.
I can personally testify, after 26 years of untreated ADHD. After taking 10 MG of prescribed adderall, iv never felt better. My concentration is unmatched, I am not full of energy 24/7. I can think, and talk clearly for once. Definitely a blessing, if used upon diagnosis of course.

It's true though. You're only choosing to believe it's a scare tactic because you already have a negative view on meth. The only difference between amphetamine and methamphetamine is a single methyl group. The effects and "high" are almost indistinguishable. Methamphetamine can even be prescribed in rare cases under the brand name Desoxyn. The reason meth sees more abuse is because of the route of administration commonly used. Smoking allows for faster onset and more compulsive redosing while adderall has a smoother/longer onset especially if it's adderall XR.
@@cornheadahh exactly. This is why we need to get rid of the labels and stigmas around drugs. Most people here wouldnt dream of doing meth but seem to happily take it from the doctor. The only difference is some imaginary human concepts.

Gotta love medication stigma. Adderall helps ADHD as well as many other ailments. Im narcoleptic and take stimulants to create an induced circadian rhythym. It would be great if the vid talked about all the benefits and disorders it helps at a prescribed dose, and talk about the dangers of overdosing seperately.
Same here! I have narcolepsy T1. People don't understand that when you have narcolepsy, your brain doesn't know when you should be awake or asleep, and it also doesn't know how to direct wake- and sleep-promoting neurotransmitters at the correct times anymore. So that's your job now 🙃 Narcolepsy T1 and T1 diabetes actually share some surprising similarities: they're both autoimmune responses caused by genetic and infectious triggers, they both cause extremely low or absent levels of an important hormone (insulin) or neuropeptide (orexin), and they both result in the patient using medications to try and restart those important processes. We take stimulants during the day so our bodies can release stimulating neurotransmitters at the correct times. Then we take sleep meds or sodium oxybate to do the opposite.
depends on what your taking, i feel like for straight adderal 10mg is a lot. i take vyvanse (which is a type of adderall) and 30 mg is my average. but adderall is more strong

It’s called *_meth_* amphetamine for a reason. There’s a methyl group attached to it. The methyl group causes different cognitive effects, so the comparison between adderall and meth is so unrelated and bias.
Methamphetamine and amphetamine are pharmacologically very similar. So much so that some studies don't even bother distinguishing them. The main difference is that METH tends to be studied in an abuse/recreational use context, and AMPH tends to be studied in a therapeutic context. But when you actually look at studies that compare the two substances on equal footing, there isn't much difference. Context is everything with these particular drugs.
I'm noticing a lot of comments here saying that key info is missing from this video, even as a summary it seems to be lacking in substance. I recently was diagnosed with ADHD(add subcategory) at 20 years old, but it was suggested by a teacher many years ago that I get checked for it when I was in 3rd year elementary school. I started vyvance yesterday and immediately noticed EVERYTHING changed. I've only just now come to understand that I've never once been able to truly focus and retain information like everyone else does. Day 2 of vyvance today at work and I'm functioning fully. My entire school career was shitty with average grades and it's cause I never got treated properly for ADHD. I'm almost pissed, but I'm happy now that I'm finally on track. The relief is insane
Adderal works quite well. Of course on my off days I do not take it and then if I'm on vacation I don't take it, so that way my body never gets used to it, mostly I call it my work pill
Famous, it is actually the way you are supposed to. People get hooked on it because they use it everyday and then suddenly get taken off it. If a person has ADHD severely, they should take it everyday. Just depends on the person and severety.
I was gonna send this to my dad partway through to be like "see, this is why I need it for my ADHD" but then it went on a "it's basically meth, addiction, dependency, cannot feel pleasure without stimulants after taking it" and I was like what the hell -.- no. what is this?
Sow your dad vids from a channel called "how to adhd", she has extensive research, gets the help from actual professionals, and has adhd herself. Changed my life
Adderall 30 Mg IR and XR are ADHD Pillls the only place to get them without prescription is at www.darkwaymarket.com They are good and their service is good
As an adult with ADHD, it took a long time to find the right prescription and dosage for me. I’m on Vyvance 60 mg and I can still comfortably eat meals, focus, and I don’t feel like a zombie like the others.
Well it is unfortunately, this medication is bad for your health over time as the video said which is why it’s classified as a CII drug and still they give to kids smh UNBELIEVABLE
I had a 4.0 GPA before Adderall. Took it because it was the only treatment that cured my anxiety disorder. It dropped my GPA by half a point because without anxiety I could actually socialize, so I would spend more time with people instead of skulking off to study alone night after night.
I feel like, especially these days, everybody is struggling with mental health and could benefit from careful/ intentional therapeutic use of substances like these.
I disagree 20people is only 7.06171323e-6% of the population of in usa. that's nothing. even for one school, university of florida for example 23/ 55,776= 0.041236374%. thats nothing yo
I have ADHD, I can feel the difference in my life since I been taking it, I only take 10mg but I haven’t need increased the dosage, I been taking it for about 2 years, what i do is i don’t take it over the weekends or in the afternoon, I only take in the mornings for work.
I used to always study last minute. Only the last minute stress was enough to make me able to focus. It was like that stress released some chemicals in my body that made me focus. But outside of that moment it was impossible to read books and notes until i started taking medication. For me it realu did change everything.
I wanted to like it, but I can't. It's irresponsible to compare Adderall to methamphetamine without explaining the difference in the brain between therapeutic use of Adderall and abusing stimulants. You have made the works a worse place.
Yeah especially because having similar chemical structure means very little for how the drugs function in comparison to each other. Just because it has meth in the name of the drug doesnt mean its just watered down meth yet in the video they basically say it is like 4 times
Matthew Stinar Matthew I think you probably watched the video once without paying close attention to it. The narrator describes how Adderall is therapeutically being used to treat ADHD, and also being abused by students to supposedly enhance studying performance.
It's not irresponsible, it is watered down meth. I was prescribed it when I was 12 and after only a few months got hooked on it because the ADHD I had wasn't severe yet I was given it. I stock piled it and in high doses it is the exact same thing as meth. I've tried different amphetamines and I have the right to say that it is practically the same thing so don't just say that it's irresponsible or some bullshit like that. BTW I'm a little over a year sober. I deal with my ADHD without a chemical that fucks you up, the problem is over prescription
It definitely helps with studying. Not only does it make me study for several long hours and stay incredibly focused and be incredibly efficient, it makes me LOVE studying and love the material I’m studying and I find it so interesting. But hey I know it’s dangerous so I limit it to finals weeks.
I remember the first day I took Adderall I was in shock at how I felt. It's like you sit there and think "so this is what normal people feel like?", and it's kind of depressing because sometimes you take it and feel great and other times you just feel steady. But it definitely is interesting.
Sadly, there's substantial misinformation and bad science in this video, mostly by omission of certain facts to fit the subjective nature of this narrative.
Could you elaborate on that? I'm not trying to prove you wrong, I'm simply just curious on learning some more about this! If you've got the time I mean! Thanks!
Aspect Science Of course. So Adderall is mixed amphetamine salt, as the video mentioned, in an enantiomeric ratio of 3:1 dextro:levo. Dextroamphetamine has the stronger action at both TAAR1 and VMAT2 of the two, and as such is the stronger central nervous system stimulant. Levoamphetamine is much more peripherally active, leading to a higher incidence of cardiovascular and vasoconstrictive side effects. Serotonin is released by amphetamine, but substantially less so than is dopamine or norepinephrine to the point that it can be considered practically negligible in context of dependence or general effects. Methamphetamine is of course the N-methylated "cousin," as the video said, of amphetamine. There is a tendency of videos discussing Adderall for a laymen audience to employ the scare-tactic that amphetamine is “basically meth.” And while that may be correct in the context of molecular structure, even a small change chemically can have functionally major implications in vivo. M-amp is much more resistant to metabolism by MAOs and also has a much higher involvement with serotonin than amphetamine does. Its stimulant effect is more potent and lasting, controlling for all other variables. Most importantly, it’s apples to oranges when implying the negatives of recreational methamphetamine abuse to a stimulant naive student taking a typically or less than typically prescribed dosage of Adderall. If an individual consumed a 10mg Desoxyn tablet (pharmaceutical d-methamphetamine HCl: a rarely prescribed med indicated for refractory ADHD responsive to ATM and inadequately treated by first-line, esp. presenting with comorbid social/general anxiety disorder(s) and/or dysthymia), it would be very comparable to the effect produced by 20mg of Adderall, but most likely with fewer side-effects, and not anything like the general public perception of “METH,” with that image of an emaciated, scab-picking tweaker with dental damage robbing a 7/11. The key pharmacological difference other than those aforementioned is that methamphetamine is neurotoxic in a dose-dependent matter, but even at a therapeutic dosage its effect on dopamine, serotonin receptors is still considered neurotoxic, whereas the former is all true for amphetamine but opposite in the latter in that amphetamine is not considered neurotoxic at therapeutic dosages. This difference probably has to do with excitotoxicity and greater oxidative stress as a result of methamphetamine's longer duration of action . This equating the two is also unfair in that 10-20mg Adderall is equivalent in effect to one or greater orders of magnitude fewer than the typical dose of street meth (racemic and often highly adulterated) used by a meth addict, but most essentially, the RoA is very different between the two. Amphetamine tablets are taken orally the vast majority of the time, whereas recreation meth is typically smoked or injected, significantly changing the effect on the brain as the release of neurotransmitters is so strong and so immediate. I hope this cleared some things up, and I’m always glad to help. Know that it wasn’t the video with which I was upset per se, but rather the general tendency of nearly all educational videos aimed at laymen that discuss this topic in a pejorative narrative. Even when the discussion is limited to diverted stimulant medication as study-aids, implicitly equating these medications with the recreational use of street methamphetamine ultimately perpetuates a stigma of individuals with ADHD prescribed these substances as dishonest drug-seekers and tweakers in the eyes of the public and may dissuade someone with the disorder from seeking professional testing and/or help. As a final note, the media tends to focus on Adderall as the primary prescription ADHD med. or as the only ADHD Rx med. of an amphetamine type, and that may also make one think that treatment for ADHD is Adderall or bust, but it’s actually a combination of therapy, support, exercise, diet, and medication (when indicated) that highly improve quality of life for the patient. Additionally, there are many ATM besides Adderall for treating ADHD, and they don't all work the same for everyone. Just as Prozac is not a one-size-fits-all SSRI for depression/anxiety, the same is the case for ADHD with respect to Adderall. Strattera (atomoxetine), Provigil (modafinil), Wellbutrin (bupropion), Kapvay (clonidine), and Intuniv (guanfacine) are all non-amphetamine type medication. The active compound in both Vyvanse (lysdexamfetamine dismesylate; prodrug, sustained release) and Dexedrine (dexamfetamine sulfate; active, immediate release) is amphetamine's dextro enantiomer, which is more ideal for reduced peripheral side effects and increased therapeutic effective potency than Adderall typically is. For mixed salt compositions equivalent to Adderall's, options include Adenzys (3:1 d,l-amphetamine liquid base, sublingual, sustained release) and Mydayis (3:1 d,l-amphetamine salts of a single entity; 33% immediate, 67% delayed). Then, of course, there are the methylphetidate medications (all the focus of media and parental concern in the 90s and 00s but has since shifted to Adderall for some reason), for which immediate and sustained release racemic USP formulations exist as Ritalin (d,l-methylphenidate HCl) and Ritalin-SR respectively. Concerta is a popular non-USP SR racemate, as is Daytrana, differing in RoA as a transdermal patch. Then, there is the enantioselective SR preparation Focalin XR (dexmethylphenidate HCl), which is analogous to the therapeutic potency of Dexedrine as compared Adderall IR or, more accurately, to Benzedrine. Lastly, the aforementioned Desoxyn (dextromethamphetamine HCl) is a rarely prescribed and highly scrutinized second-line medication, but it has its place for cases when its benefit would demonstrably outweigh its risk. All this goes to show, is that there's a lot more to this topic than can be surmised in a four minute youtube video where half of its evidence is anecdote or soundbite, and attempting to do so in this manner has potential to arguably be harmful.
Thank god, I thought I was going insane since my comment was the only one calling out the horrendous amount of misinformation in the video. I hope more people do rants like us so they take the video down or better yet, redo it with proper science.
I asked for more information - and man did you deliver! What an interesting read. It's rare you find people put the effort into explaining a topic in detail like you have here, so I can only thank you for it! A couple of things: 1.) "image of an emaciated, scab-picking tweaker with dental damage robbing a 7/11" is a surprisingly poetic way of putting it. Nicely done. 2.) Your final line of how the oversimplified and casual way a lot of people (including myself unfortunately) have drawn the comparison between the two can actually perpetuate a stigma of medical usage of the drug is extremely important and eye-opening, so again thanks for including that. 3.) Just in case you aren't aware, my channel is actually a different one to this (still science-based), and I'm not involved with ASAPScience, although I can understand the confusion, the names are pretty similar haha!
I was on Adderall for 8 years. I did the best I ever did in school while I was on it but I was literally a zombie. I had no emotion. I rarely talked. You’d be lucky to get a “hey” out of me. Sure it’s wonderful if you’re falling behind but if it’s changing the person you are and makes you feel empty as a person on it then don’t take it. I’ve been struggling with school since I got off it but I know emotionally I’m a much better person off it. I work hard at my job and try my absolute best to get my work done. In fact- It’s 10:16PM and I’m trying to get 10 assignments done and I randomly clicked on this video.
It's frustrating to see so many people around me using medication like Adderall when they don't actually need it. As someone with ADD I need my medication otherwise simple daily tasks don't get done. It took me years for them to diagnose me since I wasn't hyperactive and was quiet (and very confused) as a kid and teenager. It was hard to get a diagnosis and I ended getting mine so late in life because of everyone faking symptoms to get medication. I've been on Vyvanse for years and have recently noticed a lot of my friends going to the doctor for medication when they don't need it. I hate when people abuse it because it affects my accessibility to it and people never take my diagnosis seriously.
Jada The same thing happened to me, I was always moving but I wouldnt look "hyperactive" because I was really shy and I had really good grades even though I wasnt studying or doing work, so the teachers just thought I was lazy, all because of people getting meds. I didnt want to be one of those but I knew there was something off when my grades started to drop in college: not paying attention or not being able to sit and do work for more than 10 minutes isnt great in college, so I got diagnosed by 3 different doctors just to be sure. This video is very misleading in many ways
I was diagnosed with ADHD as a kid and it's still prevalent into adulthood but I stopped taking medication for it. Is it even worth trying to get it again?
If you have a family doctor you've been seeing a while it probably won't take too long to get back on it. If you've been seeing them for quite some time they will have trust that it won't be taken for the purpose of abuse. It may be harder to get a prescription if you don't know the doctor
Trill I think you should ask your doctor to discuss with you the good and bad effects of taking the medications again. You probably changed (metabolism for example), so the dose you were taking before might not work for now. Your doctor is the best thing to give you the right dose and advices
Your pharmacology is extremely inaccurate and very biased. This is extremely unscientific research, and I've never been so disappointed by an ASAPscience video. Please do better research next time or actually, contact someone in the field. Regards, a Behavioural Neuropsychopharmacologist
Amphetamine doesn't increase the effect of dopamine and serotonin. It increases the release for dopamine and noradrenaline, and to a lesser extent serotonin. (It has a far higher affinity for dopamine and noradrenaline then for serotonin. and it reverses the re-uptake transporters to doesnt even touch the receptors itself) This made it seem like dopamine and serotonin were being "affected" by this drug which is just not the whole picture. Amphetamine can increase focus and attention in lower doses, but it is a bell curve and can inhibit them at higher doses. he focused on the sympathomimetic effects of noradrenaline and didn't even talk about the role of NA in the CNS and where the main stimulatory effect comes from. shocked there was no mention on the actual sympathomimetic effects like pupil dilation, sweating, and pilli erection etc. the single test he quotes is pathetic and isn't very strong statistically. there are heaps of better studies on amphetamine. the relation to methamphetamine is EXTREMELY biased. the difference between the two of them is one single carbon atom. Meth is also used for ADHD, its called desoxyn. Methamphetamine and amphetamine are were found indistinguishable between users of meth or speed. These drugs arnt scary they just have abuse potential and the negative stigma they portray is horrible for future drug research. the mention to addiction was extremely weak, and only focused on one "form" of addiction. The negative reinforcement aspect of addiction, in that you need to take it to feel normal. (He mentions this without even talking about tolerance too..) What about the fact that it feels good so you take it. What about the moment before they take the drug the "winnie the pooh theory of addiction". what about social isolation theory of addiction (rat park). many highly successful people can use drugs of abuse, on and off without becoming addicted. furthermore he focuses specifically on Adderall. Adderall is a mix of amphetamine salts with the L entonimer found to be significantly weaker then the D. Street amphetamine is usualy purley D or a half half mixture of both. Furthemore many other adhd medications include purely the D isomer. Further more as far as ADHD medications went there was also no mention to ritalin, whichh works similar to cocaine and is also as equally a drug of abuse. where the hell did generation Adderall come from, I have never heard that before. finally he makes it seem like the population is abusing adderall like a street drug. remeber adderall is a prescription medication, so doctors are prescribing and people like you are supplying it. Why try to put such a negative impact on the drug itself, when it should be put on the way society treats the drug. Its the dose that makes the poison.
Nice response. It's true they should have clarified 'release' of neurotransmitters into the synapse not just 'increase.' I was happy that they eventually mentioned norepinephrine and its cardiovascular effects (it seemed like they were going to skip it entirely). Thanks for mentioning Desoxyn, although rarely prescribed, it is commercially available, and most of the comments from others don't want to admit how similar Desoxyn and Adderall are, pharmacologically speaking. From my experience, I have seen a large increase in stimulant prescriptions over the past 10 years, and lots of people 'losing' their meds, needing it filled 'early', and are on massive doses (70mg Vyvanse am + Adderall 30mg pm, or 120mg-150mg Adderall per day, Concerta 108mg/day, Ritalin 120mg/day), and even kids 5-8 years old starting on Vyvanse 10mg or Concerta 18mg who I assume will be at the massive doses eventually. There seems to be a need to have one's children compete competitively with the other children in the classroom, and a lot of parents put their kids on stimulants solely because their neighbors' kids take them too...keeping up with the Jones'. I hope prescribers are aware an epidemic may be afoot, and to use caution when prescribing.
@@ettoresalice975 -Sample size of 32 is not reliable for a conclusive study -Just because it has similar chem composition as meth, doesnt mean they have similar properties -The video barely explained anything about the drug itself. It just want to say that its basically meth. -Its like they barely did any research about adderall -If you just take 15 mins of a google search you can get 10x the info you can get here, the side effects after taking, the benefits, possible alternatives, etc.
Chad Lastowski Lol the only same symptoms of adderall and meth are long term usage causing paranoia. But yet most drugs give paranoia. Depression is also one long term effect but that yet again that is common in most drugs including medical.
But it kinda is. Both are opiods derived from the poppy flower. They are both highly addictive, can cause respiratory failure and even the antidote for overdoses is the same one. Pretty much the only difference is that heroin is as twice as potent.
I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD for 8 years and I take 20mgs of Adderall a day. It’s effects are crazy I feel like a completely different person when I don’t take it as opposed to when I do
Feels nice to finally know why watching even short videos like this are sometimes difficult with me zoning out or "spacing" sometimes less than a minute into a video I genuinely want to watch.
I went to rehab earlier this year for abusing adderall. (Was on it for over 10 years, most days taking over 100 Mgs) It’s been a hell of a journey and I wish I never took it in the first place. Gained a lot of weight coming off of it, dealing with depressive symptoms, but slowly starting to feel like a human again. I still think about it all the time...
I have ADHD and my medications just allow me to actually have a conversation with people with out getting distracted. It’s crazy that for people that don’t have ADHD it works and helps them for exams and stuff. Must be nice to have a brain that don’t hate you.
You guys should watch How to ADHD, especially her review of Take Your Pills. Maybe you guys could collaborate some time, and hopefully revise this video.
Adderall 30 Mg IR and XR are ADHD Pillls the only place to get them without prescription is at www.discreetblackmarket.com They are good and their service is good
OUTSTANDING suggestion. I abdolutely love, and whole heartedly appreciate that channel more than I can put into words. It frustrates me so much how opinionated - yet uneducated so many people are about this.
Thank you for stating what it actually does for someone with ADHD. I have friends who are not prescribed this who are not diagnosed with ADHD who take it and they keep telling me about all of these things that they are experiencing whereas for me it just feels like I can finally function normally in society specifically in my courses at University and keeping my home life on the right track and making sure everything gets done in a timely manner. otherwise I'm just putting the broccoli away in the bookshelf because I was thinking about a book I was reading while cooking dinner
EXACTLY I just wish they would've focused at least a little bit more on how it works for people with the condition that it's prescribed for because frankly, it DOESN'T work the same for people with ADHD, we're not staying up all night tweaking out of our minds, we're finally functioning like the rest of the world already was!
I can't remember the last time that I ever gave a UA-cam video a thumbs down and I certainly didn't think it would be on of theirs. As their subscriber count rises so does the potential for the spread of information. Them saying that Adderall is addictive and that it requires increasing dosage really surprised and disappointed considering medications like Adderall can actually help people recover from substance abuse. I also have been taking it almost daily since I got my first prescription and have never felt any cravings for it when I didn't. And the only reason I said almost every day is because I forget to take it occasionally and sometimes I am not sure if I did take it. I have had that feeling many times but when I feel unsure I don't just take another, I wait until my next scheduled dose.
@@MasterRuss I mean... It is addictive xD Cool that it helped you out with other substances. For me it made me forget 😅 sadly. Ended up throwing out my pills since it didn't help me in university. I'll try out modafinil probably.
MasterRuss you unfortunately are using your own experiences as an analogy to infer about the general pharmacodynamics of a drug. Anything that releases dopamine on a measurable level is to some extent addictive. No one has ever said that Adderall is as addictive as heroin or meth, however it is also deceptive for you suggest that Adderall is not addictive at all.
@@MasterRuss good for you but I got hooked because my ADHD wasn't severe enough, so just because it is helpful for extreme cases doesn't mean it's not addictive. It releases dopamine higher levels of dopamine so that alone makes it addictive to many. This isn't propaganda, it's the truth. As for the studies I don't really care but the underlying problem is that they are giving these pills to kids like candy
Generation Adderall is a bit extreme. Also, I don't think people should minimize the seriousness of ADHD and compare the use of a prescription drug to help treat this disorder to meth heads. I am interested in digging into the study you cited and how they came to that conclusion with n=3.
Any drug can be abused. The idea with ADHD, you work with your therapist and doctor as you take it to help with ADHD and use practical means as well to elevate symptoms. Study tips alone do not help. I have had ADHD all my life and this medication has helped me a lot. You have to be your own advocate, educate yourself, and talk with your doctor on any changes you feel. This video was very misleading. I respect you guys for the work you do, but I suggest you make another video on the positives of the medication on ADHD and Epilepsy, cite other studies, and talk to people who use this medication to study and work. You guys can do better.
Currently not subscribed adderall but have taken it freely. I feel like ADHD is something ive struggled with for a longtime. I am the kind of person to say I’ve never resorted to anything to get stuff done. As I got older and my job/career got more demanding. I started resorting to adderall. It got me far and is getting me far today. It does help ADHD but yeah taking it often I couldn’t imagine. The come down is terrible and you can get hyperfocused
That voice and the speed at which he talks made me think that i had used the speed playback feature in the previous video and carried over to this one.
Umm don't forget people do use the drug who are properly prescribed it. So yes there are a lot of abusers but please don't think so black and white to think this means people with ADD fall in the same catagory. Also yes there are people with ADD who abuse it... But please don't think so black and white that this means all people fall into the same category. Basically don't be simple, cause life is complex.
Such a disappointment, this video. Insensitive, far too little scientific evidence, and focused on the effect... On people who don't need it? Seems like you just needed to pump out a video that would attract viewers. How disappointing.
As someone with ADHD who has been on medication for many years, I would like to point out that although it is similar in chemical structure to meth, it is still very different, especially when it comes to dosage. I do understand that the abuse of Adderall and similar ADHD meds is an issue, however I believe you could of handled talking about this problem better, as you and many other nerotypical people covering it, barely touch on people with ADHD using these medications to help them. The problem with this is that treatment for ADHD and other mental disorders, especially medications is stigmatized for unknown reasons, and when people with a large influence like AsapSCIENCE talks about it in this way, it increases the stigma around stimulent medications, which can discourage people who need it to seek out treatment
I take adderall but I make sure to use it in moderation. Even though I have ADHD. I've learned to funtion at work without it and only use it when I'm off and need to focus on getting stuff done. If I'm just hanging out, I never take it. What this did is allow me to funtion way more effectively than I was before without making me rely on it. On average I probably only take 1-2 doses a week. Usually on my off days to focus on getting important stuff done
Thank you for sharing. I’m making an appt tomorrow or Monday for a diagnosis. I’m almost 40, really need to get this taken care of. How would you describe how it feels to be on Vyvanse and the benefits you get from it? Do the non stimulant days feel different than they did before you were diagnosed and taking the Vyvanse? Also, do you or have you done any cognitive behavioral therapy or any other interventions?
We're actually called generation Adderall? I have not once heard that said by anyone
Kevin Chang That’s because it’s not a thing.

You can focus for 30 minutes, must be nice
how you gonna make a conclusive study with a sample size of 32 PEOPLE?!?!?
It’s a study, not a survey.
Since assuming they divide the group equally, it would be 8 people in each group, this is too small and other affects might come into play like gender, age, physical and emotional well being and their base intelligence in the first place.
also, 10 mg not enough adderall
"Adderall is a growing problem" NO. Misuse and abuse of Adderall is a growing problem. This video is contributing to the stigma surrounding a medication that can really help people with ADHD lead more stable, fulfilled lives. If you're going to focus on only the negative effects and abuse, say that. Don't act like this is really a helpful, all-encompassing video about how the drug works as intended.

Oh yes what a hard life we have, the problem with the school system is not the amount of work, the problem is how schools teach. Instructional based teaching is not the way to go, teach why we really study, and not just to get a good job, make kids and die. lmao school made many of my friends actually suicidal
it's all flawed. being brought through the American school system, it's ingrained in your head that "more is better".

It helped me so much and I’m so thankful to be able to take it again and feel like a normal student with decent attention.

edit: i (now 18f) have learned sooooo much about Adderalll and ADHD since i commented this and i am still very correct.

It only adds to the stigma of people with ADHD taking these medications :(
_no pe_ I know. I feel like a drug addict now, when I’m only taking it because I’m prescribed
And you know that they'll never address this. There won't be any apology video that clears it all up. The amount of people who have ADHD who are complaining is tiny and they can just brush us all off.
So...methamphetamine and amphetamine/dextroamphetamine are not chemically similar? They don't have the same pharmacodynamic effects?
I couldn't make it to the end because of the narrators voice

@@mike-0451 I meant taking a lot of adderall will make you feel high. Not specifically '20'...
Also you cannot smoke or inject adderall. So how do you know meth actually passes your blood brain barrier faster? It could literally be due to how you take it?
It's not all about learning easier most the time, it's more about motivation. You become much more motivated to get stuff done and focused on the task. You don't do the Task better but your more motivated to start and more detail oriented. It's not about absorbing the information, it's about getting yourself to actually TRY and absorb it.

Scare tactics with the repeated emphasis on its similarity to meth?
I’m disappointed ASAP science
The only difference is some imaginary human concepts.
and that SINGLE methyl group makes all the difference in the world.. just because a simple chemical change doesn seem drastic doesnt mean it is.. meth is literally like cocaine times a hundred according to the people who take it, while the same amount of adderall doesnt will just make u feel more focused and energetic .. not to mention all the negative side affects of smoking meth , including seeing hallucinations like bugs crawling out of your skin and rots your teeth.
@@alirocksize the high of meth and adderral is indistinguishable. When you say "a bit more energetic and focused", you mean having your dopamine shot up to a level that is literally multiple times more than naturally possible. And yes if you abused adderral you would get the same psychosis of seeing shit as meth. If you are in denial that they are a similar drug, adderal is the same as street speed, and look at the effects of that. Im not saying adderal is even a bad thing, its just dangerous to give them good and bad labels. Same thing as when people take oxys from the doc thinking its all fine and dandy when its really not much different to heroin. Yet heroin is given such a horrific image.
Enumber adderall is similar to cocaine in that it is snortable And has similar affects, it definitely does not come close to meth... all ur “research” won’t convince me of anything cause I have multiple friends who were addicts of meth and did adderall and coke before.. meth is DEFINITELY on a different level than both coke and adderall, and it 100 times worse. I am prescribed adderall and I’ve taken it for 2-3 years now.. and yes sometimes I do take it recreationally, never have I ever experienced any form of psychosis or hallucinations, so again ur research does not affect me

Narcolepsy T1 and T1 diabetes actually share some surprising similarities: they're both autoimmune responses caused by genetic and infectious triggers, they both cause extremely low or absent levels of an important hormone (insulin) or neuropeptide (orexin), and they both result in the patient using medications to try and restart those important processes.
We take stimulants during the day so our bodies can release stimulating neurotransmitters at the correct times. Then we take sleep meds or sodium oxybate to do the opposite.

during his last year of college, my cousin used to take adderall almost daily. he finished at the top of his class, got into one of the best universities in our country, acing their exam, and even got medals from math/cs olympiads. he went cold turkey but said that it wasn't _that bad_ apart from getting a bit fat because of increased apetite and mood swings here and there.
Interesting, but it would be really good if you remind of how these drugs helps and are very important for ADHD people. The way said here just demonize it, increasing the prejudice burden for ADHD people.
Take some Adderall, maybe you'll type a proper sentence.

pakmule88 I agree 100%. A LOT, if not all, that he/she (couldn’t tell by the voice) mentioned was super biased science and research information. A sample size of 32?! This is supposed to be a science page. An intro to a bio or math class teaches how important sample sizes are and 32 is clearly not enough. Seeing all the likes to this video just shows how gullible people are and how important it is to teach science and ethics in science.
@@lbryan5041 You do know that med doctors write papers based on samples of 2 to 4 people right?
It’s called *_meth_* amphetamine for a reason. There’s a methyl group attached to it. The methyl group causes different cognitive effects, so the comparison between adderall and meth is so unrelated and bias.
yeah i take methylphenidate tablets for ADHD so I guess im really doing *mEtH* OMG
I like the paper animation. But seriously where did you get some of this information. "32 People, Generation Adderall"

I don't think the people who made this video have ever taken Adderall before.
Agreed.
Yeah especially because having similar chemical structure means very little for how the drugs function in comparison to each other. Just because it has meth in the name of the drug doesnt mean its just watered down meth yet in the video they basically say it is like 4 times
@itsC0ll0n
It is just watered down meth.. In high dosages it has basically the same effect. (like ~10x therapeutic dose)
Should Adderall be used only on doctor's prescription???
@@ranapratapsingh9570 no who cares just don't take it daily

Is it wrong for me to just take it two times cause I want to get a better act score and that is it?

@AsapSCIENCE

As someone who’s been using adderall for a few years now im absolutely at a loss how you can get addicted. I literally forget to take it all the time.
@AndrewFreetinger im not trying to get a trip. Im trying to get make sure a building im working on not collapse lol

These comments have me rollin 😭
ahahaha same
Currently not subscribed adderall but have taken it freely.
Stereochemistry makes all the difference . Chemical structures may look similar but the orientation of atoms gives rise to different function .
While it definitely helps your grades, over time it’ll be the worst shit you’ll ever go through in your life
Such a disappointment, this video. Insensitive, far too little scientific evidence, and focused on the effect... On people who don't need it? Seems like you just needed to pump out a video that would attract viewers. How disappointing.
Also, "the study drug"? Really? How insensitive and superficial can you be?
Well I'm overdosing tonight cause my grades are in shambles.
