Well you sure made my day!! Be sure to check the description box for the equipment list and ingredients. Good luck and God bless you!❤️
Beautiful soap. In the next day or so, I will send you my notes on how I learned to make soap and my recipe, so you can compare them. Isn't it a fun thing to make ♥️
Thank you for the kind words! I use purchased lard in my soaps. My home lard rendered is saved for my cooking. I’ve haven’t tried my home lard in soap making yet but want to eventually. Thanks so much for the question and feedback. Have a blessed week❤️
Usually after 24 hours but depending on ingredients and other factors, I would say to be safe wait at least 72 hrs. That would cover most if not all factors. Curing takes a good 4 to 6 weeks. The soap is safe to use before then but not yet hardened. It would dissolve very quickly when wet. Curing is actually like dehydrating. The water is evaporating, making for a harder shop. Hope I didn’t overwhelm you lol 😂. That was a question that I forgot to cover in the video. Thanks so much for asking!! God bless❤️
Once it hardens, you can gently touch it to the tip of your tongue without being seriously burned. If it tastes electric, like licking a battery, there's still lye left. If it just tastes like soap, it's safe to wash with, but letting it dry for a few weeks will still improve the lather.
Lard really makes the best simple soap. You can use tallow but that’s hard to find unless you have your own. Some people use vegetable shortening but you would need to run that through a lye calculator to get the formula. I use purchased lard for soap and my home rendered lard for cooking. I’m with you, that good home lard is precious. Hopefully I will have more videos up soon where I use a blend of oils and lard. 🥰
Some fats saponify easier and with less stirring than others. At the extreme end, fully hydrogenated soybean oil (which is nearly all stearin) will reach trace in a few minutes of manual whisking.
Unfortunately it isn’t recommended. The lemon juice can neutralize some or all of the lye and your soap would fail. If you are wanting a lemon scent you could add about 10 drops of lemon essential oil when you feel you’re getting close to trace. Thanks so much for asking a great question! Have a blessed evening❤️
Hello before I make a batch could I ask Do you put the soap in the refrigerator to make it stay white will it loose it’s whiteness if you don’t keep it cool ? Thank you from Australia.
Great question! I like to keep my soaps cool for the first 24 hrs so they don’t gel. That causes them to have a more opaque appearance. I don’t care for that affect but some soapers like it. It’s caused by the heating up of the soap while it saponifies. It really does help keep the soap white as well. Thank you for asking and God bless❤️
What size molds did you use? I have a 5 lb mold that I am wanting to make this to fit in. So, im confused on the amount of ingredients needed to do that.
Each of my wooden molds hold approximately 57 oz by volume. They measure 12” long x 3.5” wide x 2.75” high (inside measurements). The formula to figure your mold capacity is L x W x H. Take that total and multiply by .554 (ounces in cubic inch). Then take that total and multiply by .9 (specific gravity wt of oil at room temp). This final total is the ounce capacity of your mold. Hope this helps and isn’t too confusing😀. Thank you for the great feedback and God bless!
What brand of Lard are you using? I bought some off the shelf in a blue container at Walmart. I don’t like the piggy smell so I haven’t used it. Is that odor going to stay in the soap?
The brand I have right now is Armour. It has only a very slight pork smell. I haven’t had a problem with it in my soaps. Haven’t detected any piggy aroma at all. The soap process does help eliminate some of that but if it’s very strong you may still have a bit of that piggy perfume left behind😁. Thank you for the wonderful feedback and may God richly bless you!❤️
We actually raise our own hogs so I’m able to render some for myself. With all the soap I make I usually buy a large bucket of lard at our local old time store. Thanks so much for the great question and for taking the time to watch. What a blessing😀
Goodness gracious, is there anything you can't do Jackie? When is your video showing us how to build a space ship? Jerry,,, OH JERRY, put in a couple windows for your wifey please hahaha.
@@jerryhiers5739 oh. I thought she said she needed a window for ventilation using the lye. I am very hard of hearing, I probably misunderstood. Hope I didn't drag you away from an important job she had you doing haha.
@@LittleCountryCabin 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 frying fish is something even I can do. And I can fry okra too. But those are the only things I ever fry. I tried chicken once - and it was such a flop I never tried again. Oh and occasionally squash. But I love boiled squash and raw squash with dip. Oh and eggplant lol. I guess I can fry a lot. But I rarely ever do. Except okra and I fry a lot of it.
You certainly could but using milk in a cold process soap is a little different technique. You would substitute the water equally with the goat milk and all other quantities stay the same. Because the lye will heat up it can scorch the milk. It’s best to have the milk semi frozen and add the lye a little at a time and dissolve completely each portion you add. I also place the container I’m mixing my lye/milk in a bowl of ice to help keep it cooler. That’s the super condensed version😀. I hope to have a video out in making goat milk soap soon so be on the look out. Thanks so much for the wonderful feedback and have a blessed day❤️
Thank you for asking. I usually do all my soaps at 5% super fat unless I’m making them for laundry. In that case I will do closer to 0%. Hope this helps. Thank you for the great feedback and God bless❤️
It’s really a good all purpose soap. You could certainly grate it, dry the flakes a bit more, mix with washing soda, and have a decent washing powder. There are wonderful UA-cam video tutorials on making homemade laundry soap. Thanks for watching and the wonderful feedback. God bless!❤️
