    Thank you for saying how/why the temperature rises when dissolving the lye and for explaining what the 'trace' is. No one in any of the other video's did this. It all becomes clear.

    when I lived in California, everyone wanted vegan soaps and was grossed out by tallow or lard. Now that I live in Texas, everyone loves tallow soaps, lotions, and balms.

    I made a basic lard soap because I had not made soap in decades. I gave it to some coworkers. Two of them had eczema, and extremely sensitive skin. No adverse reaction. I had no idea, they were severely sensitive!

    I love tallow soaps, beef and bison as well. Your soap is so beautiful 😻. I use ice cubes or frozen milk or AloeVera juice to dissolve the lye and avoid the fumes and the waiting time

    Thanks for taking step by step. I think I can do this. I'll let you know how it turnes out. You made it look so easy. I am going to use some muffin pans instead of buying soap forms. Just in case I never do it again

    Beautifully white. I would have thought the olive oil would make it a little green.

      Extra virgin OO would make it greener, but processed olive oil doesn't have as much color!

    Should it lather as you do clean up? I followed the precise measurements and your fantastic directions, but clean up was still greasy, so to speak.

    • @GroundedHavenHomestead
      @GroundedHavenHomestead  5 місяців тому +2

      It is a bit of a messy cleanup process. I usually try to wipe up whatever i can with paper towels before washing with water, and that helps a lot!

      It takes a couple of days for the raw soap to cure enough for the oiliness to be emulsified, after which any soap remnants remaining in the mixing bowls or on utensils will lather a bit when washed with water. It took me a little time to realize this but once I did, it was a game changer! Since I was making only enough soap for my family, I had time to set my mixing bowls & utensils aside in a storage room for a few days before washing them to make cleaning easier. Once the soap remnants have aged a little, you can wash the utensils with plain water since the utensils are already coated in more than enough soap to clean them. And yes, it will produce some lather at this point, though not as much as when the soap has fully cured. An added benefit of waiting to clean the utensils is that the longer you wait, the milder the soap will be on your hands. Raw soap is very harsh on skin, but the longer you allow it to cure, the milder it becomes. Hope this helps.
