    Try this simple hot process soap making technique if you are a beginner hot process soap maker, have had issues with hot process soap in the past, or just want an easy method that works every time.
    With this technique, you don’t need to stir the soap while it’s cooking, you don’t have to worry about the soap reaching all kinds of different stages and you’ll clearly see when it’s done, so you won’t need to perform a pH test.
    The soap is cooked slowly on low heat on a double boiler, so you don’t need a crock pot for this hot process soap technique.
    Benefits of hot process soap:
    ○ Hot process soap is more gentle to fragrance and essential oils, since the lye has already been neutralized when the scent is added. You might need less fragrance as a result and you don't need to worry about acceleration.
    ○ Hot processing soaps can cut down on cure time. (Personally, I still prefer to cure hot process soaps for about 4 weeks because of the high water content.)
    ○ Hot process soaps can have a different feel than cold process soaps.
    ○ Hot process soaps have a more rustic, unrefined look. This can be a pro or con depending on your personal preferences :)
    ○ You don't have to worry about getting soda ash with hot process soap.
    ○ The clean up is much easier.
    Thank you for watching!

    Please wear proper safety equipment when making soap.
    Super simple hot process soap recipe:
    Oils:
    150 g coconut oil (30%)
    75 g shea butter (15%)
    25 g cocoa butter (5%)
    50 g avocado oil (10%)
    25 g castor oil (5%)
    175 g olive oil (35%)
    168 g distilled water
    10 g citric acid
    Sodium hydroxide lye:
    when adding citric acid: 76.3 g
    without citric acid: 70.3 g
    (29.4 % lye concentration, 5 % superfat)
    2 tbsp dried spinach
    10 ml fragrance oil (I used 'green tea' by gracefruit)
    Cure the soap for about 4 weeks before using it on your skin.
    ○ Citric acid information
    When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. Sodium citrate works as a chelator in soap.
    A chelator traps metal ions such as calcium and magnesium that can be found in tap water.
    These metal contaminants can cause rancidity and soap scum in handmade soap.
    A chelator binds to these metals so that they can’t bind to the soap molecules. This way the soap won’t react with them and the soap's lather improves + shelf life increases.
    Citric acid does not lower the pH of soap. Instead it consumes some of the lye and increases the superfat. Add 6 g extra lye for every 10 g of citric acid added to a soap recipe if you want to keep the superfat % at the same level.
    How much citric acid should be added to soap?
    Usage rate in bar soap is 1-2% of the oil weight.
    How to use citric acid
    Add citric acid to the distilled water and dissolve completely before adding the lye, or make a separate solution of citric acid and distilled water and add to the oils.

      @@joyaghosh2940 I think it’s mostly a personal preference so it depends on what you like! Hot process soap is more gentle to the fragrance so you might need less and you don’t have to worry about acceleration. Hot process can also cut down on cure time (but the soap gets much better as it hardens during the cure)

    my experience started out with wondering what frankincense and myrrh smelled like. so i bought some on line. and then started making little 3 gram perfume solids. then saw a tutorial on soap making and glycerin soap melt and pour. so i bought some melt and pour and put some essential oils in. and had wanted to mmake my own homemade soap for about six years. then i was finally able to make my own homemade soap. and recently ive tried making my own type of melt and pour. its still a work in progress. but im getting it. i love the easy hot process that you have demonstrated. its not as hard as i thought. ive been wanting to do hot process so when i put the essential oils in they should last longer. cause i cook the soap. excited to try this one type. thank you

    • @tellervo.
      @tellervo.  3 роки тому +7

      Cold process and hot process recipes are similar, you just need more water for hot process. And the process is very similar except hot process soap is cooked :)

    • @ココット-h2u
      @ココット-h2u 3 роки тому +16

      The biggest difference is you need to cure cold process soap (usually 4-6 weeks) so you can't use the soap immediately. However, hot process soap is already done the chemical reaction while the cooking, you can use the soap as soon as it hardened(mostly next day or 2 sometime longer depends on recipe)

    • @SuffuseSoaps
      @SuffuseSoaps 3 роки тому +7

      Hot process goes through saponification faster because of the heat and is usually ready to cut quickly. Both cold process and hot process soaps need the same amount of curing. i.e 4-6 weeks

    • @KittenBowl1
      @KittenBowl1 3 роки тому +5

      @@SuffuseSoaps That’s up for a debate and many disagree that HP and CP cure the same way because they really don’t. HP one just gets more benefit by not dissolving as fast as the next day HP version, but CP won’t even bubble up really well the same way after two weeks the way HP soaps do. They’re not the same.

      @@SuffuseSoaps then why go through the bother with the process of HP if it still needs to cure 4-6 weeks?
      Literally nobody I know waits 4-6 weeks on there HP soap, it's on the shelf in 48-72 hours. The benefits of the extra exertion is a faster production to sales ratio.
      Storage costs money, as in time, space.

    Very interesting! I'm thinking of trying your method. Have you done it and added the superfat, etc. after cooking it like in 'normal' hot process? I want to make my first milk and honey soap and wonder if I could add it after it gels to keep it fluid and preserve the benefits of the honey. Thanks

    Thank you for sharing. Where do you get your products for soap making? For hot process, have you ever used a crackpot. This is the first time I've seen soap prepared this way.

    I just love watching you soap, so relaxing! Such an interesting way to HP. I've always did it in a crockpot but may have to give that a try sometimes. As always, your soap always turns out beautiful!
    Do you only soap or do you make lotions, shampoo, body wash, etc. also? I would watch those if you did it too. 😁
    Thanks for the lovely video.

    Hello I am about to get your work book. I do have a question. You used citric acid vs sodium lactate which I notice many other soap makers use. Is there a reason why and does using one vs the other produce a different outcome of soap
