I wanted to pop by and thank you. This was the first soap tutorial I ever watched and it set me on the path to having my own soap business. I am now making botanical soaps with herbs from my garden and last year I netted almost $10k. It's a lot of work going to county fairs and whatnot but it's fun nonetheless. So THANK YOU.
Oh my gosh, you have made my week! Thank you so much for sharing your story. It's incredibly inspiring to hear how my tutorial helped you start your own soap business and achieve such amazing success. I love that you're using herbs from your garden - your botanical soaps sound beautiful! Keep up the amazing work, and best of luck with your business. I can't wait to see what you create next! ✨ If you have a social media channel where you share your soaps, do let me know and I will happily feature you to give you some extra exposure.
Olive oil is so expensive at the moment,I've turned to lard,I don't sell soap, its for the use of my family and myself,it just goes me things to do at the glorious ae of 60,I've been making products for last 10 years, for me it's relaxing 😂
I've been binge watching your videos this morning - they are GREAT. I'm an american girl, and I LOVE your accent! I prefer the ones where you're talking - vs the one I just watched (it's a lavender soap video) where you just let the music play, and had text boxes explain your process. I'm a new soap maker, so it's a little harder for me to learn if I have to read AND concentrate on what you're doing in the video, but your content is still, FANTASTIC. I've subscribed to your channel - yay! I'm leaving a comment here to boost your channel, and I've tried to remember to like everything I'm watching with a thumbs up response. (It's early morning right now, and I'm still trying to get my coffee to kick in... lol... so no promises about the thumbs up. Sending you LOTS of love.
I love your recipe! I've made several batches and, because your recipe is so small, I can make a wider variety of scents and colors that my husband and I really love! Thanks so much for sharing!
Might be a good idea to use goats milk instead of water seeing as though we're going for a very moisturizing bar. Usually it would soften a bar but that's not a problem here with such a hard bar. Also the milk sugars may help it bubble a little better. I would greatly reduce the water content of the goats milk first to get more of it in the bar.
Absolutely love lard soap, it's like holding *fine bone china* in your hand! I personally find, your own rendered lard does have a scent when first made, but that soon dissipates within a couple of days of being made, whereas shop/supermarket is more neutral like you said. As always, a fabulous video! Thank you, Sarah
When I render my tallow or lard, I will continue to run it through the process 4 to 6 times until the water is completely clear. That does eliminate the majority of the smell from the animal but yes, lard soap seems to be the best. I absolutely love it. I really appreciate the recipe on this site here in the US it’s difficult to find a lye Calculator that tells you how to calculate for lard. They all tell you how to calculate for tallow, and there must be a difference even if it’s minimal.
❤ good morning. I'm your new subscriber, I'm from Switzerland, your videos are wonderful, your voice is so serene that it sounds like a lullaby. you are wonderful thank you so much for passing us your knowledge❤❤❤
tryin it in the morning! thanks for the video! i may try a 90/10 lard/coconut just for a little more suds, now. i love lots of lather!! lol just got into the homemade soaps!! made my first batch of 100% coconut just to see if i could do it, and it turned out great!! the experimenting is on now!! lol
Hi Sarah I made this soap this afternoon it was lovely to work with lard for the 1st time. I am so excited to see how it is when I take out the oven in the morning :-)
I have fallen in love with your channel with this recipe for lard soap. What I did was infused it with Rosemary before making the soap, I also loved your video of nutela soap, I'm going to try it.
Hi loved the video, just wondering what temperature you were aiming for? I made this today and it seized on me and I thought maybe my oils were too cool? Thank You
Yes absolutely. You would need to use an online SAP calculator to find the new amount of lye needed for your chosen tallow but it will make a wonderful soap similar to this one :)
I think that's not a bad lather at all, but I prefer creamy lather. I just made a batch with lard in it for the first time. I was tired of waiting so long for my bastile bars to cure. Looking forward to seeing the difference.
Homesteader here with too much lard! I am excited to try this. I love silky/creamy soaps. Can I add essential oils without altering the rest of the recipe, and if so when in the process should I add them?
I never used lard before in soap, will definitely try it. In this recipe can I add any essential oils and/or even goats milk? When using lard in other soap recipes using soap calculator, what other oils go together with lard to make a good bar of soap? Olive oil, coconut oil, castor oils? thanks
It can be used if you are making just for yourself but it is good practise to kee it just for soap making especially if you start using essential oils and fragrances as Kat mentioned
Thank you for sharing this amazing lard soap. But I just have one question. After you left the soap in the mould for 24 hours then you cut it. Was it ok that you didn’t cure the soap for 4-6 weeks?
Hello soap school, I have aa small doubt, is it okay to use fruit puree or vegetable puree in aa soap making process, because I heard that using puree in aa soap it may chance to form fungal in a soap with in month, so what about that, can you explain me? And I'm from India🇮🇳
I have never had them go mouldy and I have been making them for over 20 years. CSS our safety assessor sells a whole bundle of safety assessments CPSR's for fruit and veggie soaps so these types of soaps are safe and do comply with the requirements to sell int he UK & EU. It is however important to make sure that your fruit etc is pureed really well. If you leave chunks of raw food in anything it will go bad.
Lard and tallow are not the same thing at all. So if one is using tallow for this recipe instead of lard, would they use less tallow? Tallow is MUCH harder than lard. Also, can vegetable glycerine be used to make it lather?
67 grams of lye is slightly under 5% superfat, which is not ideal for the skin. Most people use 5% to 8% superfat percentage for lard soap. Also, the water is on the lower side too based on the many lard soap calculators out there. Great explanation otherwise. Thank you.

I love lard in soap. I am in the US and find that lard is quite affordable to purchase. I use it in all of my soaps.
Christina, I love it too :D. So glad you use it
I love the way that you have just kept going despite your thermometer not working! LOL! BRILLIANT!!!
I've been binge watching your videos this morning - they are GREAT.

That is a beauty. I ordered to much lard from Amazon during the holiday baking season. Now I know how to use it up n thank you.
I love your recipe! I've made several batches and, because your recipe is so small, I can make a wider variety of scents and colors that my husband and I really love! Thanks so much for sharing!

Hi Gavin, Great points and I agree the milk does create sugars which seem to increase the lather as well as a better skin feel in my opinion.

Thanks for the tip! I am so glad you like lard soap too, it has such a creamy fine texture and I think its the whitest of the natural soaps

Can you plz do a film with lard and coconut oil? 🙏
I would love to se the different from plain lard soap 😍
You are the best!
Love from Sweden 👋
Thank you for sharing! Lard is wonderful for soapmaking
I think so too :D. I'm so pleased you do too
tryin it in the morning! thanks for the video! i may try a 90/10 lard/coconut just for a little more suds, now. i love lots of lather!! lol just got into the homemade soaps!! made my first batch of 100% coconut just to see if i could do it, and it turned out great!! the experimenting is on now!! lol
In my experience, and others, when coconut oil is added,is creating less suds. Not sure why.Maybe depends on the lard used.
Hi Sarah I made this soap this afternoon it was lovely to work with lard for the 1st time. I am so excited to see how it is when I take out the oven in the morning :-)
I hope it turns out beautifully Sarah x
I have fallen in love with your channel with this recipe for lard soap. What I did was infused it with Rosemary before making the soap, I also loved your video of nutela soap, I'm going to try it.
Did the smell of rosemary stay? Did it change the colour?
I will definitely be making this. Thank you for this tutorial.
I can't wait to hear how it goes for you Denise
I love lard soap!
Me too :)
Seemple !! (I was just searching for a simple recipe, and foundedz.)
Hi loved the video, just wondering what temperature you were aiming for? I made this today and it seized on me and I thought maybe my oils were too cool? Thank You
I recently rendered down lard so definitely will give this a go.
Thanks Sarah
That's fantastic, I hope it works really well for you Nerina
What size loaf do you use for this amount? Do you think buttermilk would work well to replace the water?
I love your words
Thanks Terri, we appreciate you
Looks fab. Would this work with beef tallow/dripping?
Yes absolutely. You would need to use an online SAP calculator to find the new amount of lye needed for your chosen tallow but it will make a wonderful soap similar to this one :)
I think that's not a bad lather at all, but I prefer creamy lather. I just made a batch with lard in it for the first time. I was tired of waiting so long for my bastile bars to cure. Looking forward to seeing the difference.
I hope you like it Elaine, its a lovely affordable soap to make and I think it is just as lovely as a castile soap
Homesteader here with too much lard! I am excited to try this. I love silky/creamy soaps. Can I add essential oils without altering the rest of the recipe, and if so when in the process should I add them?
At trace is best.
In chemistry you always add your solvent to your solute meaning you add the water to the lye
Thanks 😊How long in the oven?
Hi :). I prewarm the oven to around 75C then turn the oven off, pop the soap in and leave it overnight in the warm oven.
How do I get a soap mold like the cute one in this & many of your fabulous videos?🌻❣️🌻
We get them online from GMarket in S. Korea.
@@SoapSchoolUK ❣️Thanks 😁
Fantastic recipe thanks. Without fragrance oil does it have any natural scent?
Hi Anne, Honestly no real scent at all, completely neutral
@@SoapSchoolUK Thanks ever say much. That's great. Sounds like a good soap to try.
I never used lard before in soap, will definitely try it. In this recipe can I add any essential oils and/or even goats milk? When using lard in other soap recipes using soap calculator, what other oils go together with lard to make a good bar of soap? Olive oil, coconut oil, castor oils? thanks
Absolutely, they would all be great choices!
What size mould I get for this recipe?
Should the stick blender be used for soap only or can it be used for food blending after cleaning?
Use it only for soap. Even cleaned it's bad practice to use soapmaking tools interchangeably between soap and food. It can be dangerous.
It can be used if you are making just for yourself but it is good practise to kee it just for soap making especially if you start using essential oils and fragrances as Kat mentioned
Can this be doubled or do I have to make two separate batches?
Thank you for sharing this amazing lard soap.
But I just have one question.
After you left the soap in the mould for 24 hours then you cut it. Was it ok that you didn’t cure the soap for 4-6 weeks?
How long does does it need to sit to cure?
4 to 6 weeks is a normal time amount
Can u mix in any other oils with the lad
Hi Lorraine, You would use lard as part of an more expanded recipe with other oils but you would need to recalculate the lye amount
How long do you keep it in the oven at 75C?
How long does it take to cure? Is it the same as vegetable oils?
Hi Angelica, yes it takes the same amount of time as plant oil soaps
"let's celebrate soap making in it's purest form!"
.. grabs the stick blender 😅
Hello Sarah mam . How are you . I like your lard soap making video .
Mam I need to know that , how long time I rest all the soap .
Can we add some lactic acid???
Yes you can
When is it possible to add lactic acid? I have the liquid form, 80%.
Is it possible to know how many bars the recipe will yield? Thanks!
I get 6 from this small batch normally
Where can the lard be purchased?
Most supermarkets or even local stores sell it in the UK and America
You keep it in the over for 24 hours?
Hello soap school, I have aa small doubt, is it okay to use fruit puree or vegetable puree in aa soap making process, because I heard that using puree in aa soap it may chance to form fungal in a soap with in month, so what about that, can you explain me? And I'm from India🇮🇳

Lard and tallow are not the same thing at all. So if one is using tallow for this recipe instead of lard, would they use less tallow? Tallow is MUCH harder than lard.
Also, can vegetable glycerine be used to make it lather?
What is the superfat?
The lard I guess
Just to let you know, lard is not tallow. Tallow is made from ruminant animals and lard is made from pigs. Hope that helps.
Thanks Donna, I actually use both and they both make great soap. I do prefer tallow for shaving soaps though
❤😊
as long as my eczema won't attack me again
67 grams of lye is slightly under 5% superfat, which is not ideal for the skin. Most people use 5% to 8% superfat percentage for lard soap.

You say 130g of water in your recipe but then the recipe says 120g water. Which is right???
