- This video uses the TYT MD-UV390 radio but I chose this because the programming software is similar to most Chinese DMR radios and Motorola DMR radios too.

About to take my Foundation licence, looking into DMR and hotspots. This is the clearest explanation I've heard for all the technology Ben. Thanks very much!
Mucha gracias por su clara, didáctica y sencilla explicación de configurar el CPS para un radio TYT Uv-390.
Thank you so much for this and your related videos - they're very clear. I'm a professional engineer and have needed to resort to *a lot* of online help in order to get a TYT MD-UV380 and more recently a MMDVM + Pi-Star running.
Almost exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, I cannot get the TYT software working, so I am using RT Systems with the TYT cable. But close enough, this is still very helpful info. Sometimes hearing the same concept explained different ways is even better for understanding.
Thank you. After banging my head against a brick wall trying to understand the relationships between contacts/channels and zones your video really helped. Now for my Tytera and MMDVM talking at long last!
Glad to help!
This video fixed all the issues I was spending hours trying to solve! Outstanding!
Just a note to say thanks for a great job of explaining DNR programming. Best explanations I've found!
Nice one. I still have to RTFM, but this made it easier to tweak. Thanks.
Great video it’s enabled me to write a basic code plug , I’m now trying to program a local repeater on to the same code plug with a couple talk groups as well but I’m having problem a video on that would great 👍🏻
very helpfull. your videos managed to get me on DMR. i was getting very confused and muddled with a code plug somebody sent me, was too much going on.
VERY helpful! Best video that I've watched on this subject. Thanks! 73, George K2WO
Great Video as always Ben, have had my Hotspot for a year and couldnt get my head around the MD380 and zones etc, now just got to do the same with my Ailiance HD1 :-D thanks again mate Stu 2E0UHV
That's great, glad you got it running Stu!
@@radiosification setup the MD380 with my repeaters but am struggling with adding the jumbospot, do i need to add new channels with the hotspot freq then add the existing contacts that are already in the contact list from the repeaters or do i create new contacts with a hotspot abreiviation say in the title? thanks again for your help Ben, 2E0UHV
@@trainspotter427 the radio side of things only looks at the number so it doesn't matter, you can use the ones already in the contacts
One of the best videos I have seen -- Great! keep it going and thanks.
Excellent, thank you. It was very use full.
Nice little guide, I've just setup my old FT8800 to become a hotspot with a mmdvm pi hat. Seems to be working well, Needs some fine tuning.
With the FT880 as the transmitter and receiver for the hotspot? Sounds cool
@@radiosification Yes, Currently into a dummy load. Plan is to try get lower power or use a commercial mobile radio instead.
just what to say thanks for the help :)
Great job - thankyou again
I followed this to the T using open GD-77 on my Radioddity GD-77. But I cannot hear anything from the talkgroups??
Your tutorials are outstanding and easy to understand and follow. The trouble is the software I have is so much different than what you are using that I was unable to make it work. When I clicked the PTT all I got was No Contacts. Can you please give me a link to the software you are using?
That sounds like you didn't set a contact for the channel. Make sure you set a talkgroup as the "contact". Alternatively, go into the contacts list and PTT on a talkgroup from there and it should work.
I have just set up my hotspot and TYT as per your videos but seem to have a problem getting any response from Echo.
I've checked Pi Star the dashboard and it's showing my connection but at the bottom left of the screen that TS1 as disabled and TS 2 enabled.
I wondered if this could be the reason so I tried setting the channels all to TS2 but still no echo from Echo?
how to feed a dynamic
talk group?
This is very confusing for a newbie. You end Part 1 which was setting up your Pi-star hotspot. Then you begin Part 2 doing a code plug for your transceiver with no bridge explanation of what you are doing or how to get to this code plug set up site. I assumed that you would pick up exactly where you left off in Part 1 when I began Part 2. Like many of these hotspot teaching sites it assumes too much Tribal Knowledge but I have never been here before. This is all new to this old ham of 60+ years (age 75). So I struggle on.......
Dave K8WPE since 1960
there are an awful lot of videos with info missing....like you say, there is no continuation. Ive followed part 1 2 and nothing works......i will leave that there.
thx for teaching! Do you know how to create a new room in mmdvm?
Please show PI Star configuration before test the radio.
I did everything you did, BUT my radio says D 450.000 on top line and 450.000 on second line, Open Spot 4 on bottom (my zone). i dont see the TGs on line one and two. what am I doing wrong. My hot spot is programmed with freq etc, just like you did. HELP please. so far, you got my on the right track.
figured it out, setting is for CHANNEL on front page. BUT, i am still transmitting on 450.000 even though i programmed in the code plus to my hot spot FREQ, that is my only hold up now. it is not transmitting on the freq i set with the talk groups, just like you did, HELP
@@ScottAReid did you set the right frequency on every channel when you programmed them in?
Very insightful! I've been messing with this stuff almost a year, and that is a great walk-thru of DMR. When is part 3 coming out? Specifically, why would I care to dynamically vs statically link a talkgroup on the hotspot? I can connect either way, right? Is there a benefit one way or the other?? Great work man!
Thanks. There was no part 3 planned. I finished the guide in this video. The difference between static and dynamic is explained in part 1.
Is there a way to use a hotspot without a valid license to just listen to talk groups?
No, because it transmits on amateur frequencies. There are some websites that let you just listen like brandmeister hoseline
Hi, I followed your videos and have my UV380 setup, but not hearing anything. Even when I tried Echo, no receive audio even though my hotspot shows the radio being received. I'm new to DMR and I'm sure I'm missing something. Any ideas? Thanks for the videos.
You could try tuning the Rx frequency and put the same value you find after following the steps in for the tx frequency. See here: radiosification.blogspot.com/2020/05/tuning-your-hotspot-pi-star.html
Well, it turns out I had to reset my hotspot from scratch and now it works great! Thanks for the reply.
When i use Echo and after i received my own transmission, i have, at the screen " Missed List" like you at 8 min 26 sec. Why ?
It private calls you back. When you get a private call that you don't reply to the radio thinks its a missed call
Great video it’s enabled me to write a basic code plug , I’m now trying to program a local repeater on to the same code plug with a couple talk groups as well but I’m having problem a video on that would great 👍🏻
What's the problem you're having?
@@radiosification hi the radio btw is a rt3s Iv managed to get it working with my hotspot on Hubnet . Following your video.. but I’m trying to now program a local repeater so I added the repeater as a digital contact but when I try and add a Tg9 it pops up saying it already exists, which it dose I guess as I added it to the tc list for the hotspot
