Have you tried allowing 24 hour shopping in the town centre? The reason people go to Bluewater and Bromley is because they are open late and so after work they can shop. By allowing 24 hour shopping or late night shopping until 8/9pm for the whole shopping centre or up to midnight for the department stores and Sainsbury's it will attract more visitors.

And 6 years on - not "the next couple of years" as Heidi Alexander claims here - there is still utter total chaos in Lewisham between the Clock Tower and Rail stations, "putting Lewisham on the map" - as a place to be avoided.
Pedestrians are the last to be considered and far from attracting people to shop in the area, the misery on the faces of shoppers and residents forced to be here has been painful to see, for the last SIX years. As for the poor drivers who for all those years have desperately tried to avoid spending an hour or so getting through the area, they can also rail at the greatly increased air pollution all these 'improvements' have produced. No winners visible yet, maybe in another 6 years?
Did LBLewisham & London Mayor mess up completely? Or what exactly went wrong and what compensation will the people of Lewisham get - whether it's financial compensation for the failure of commercial companies to meet deadlines, or through LBL recognising they have been totally over ambitious in their 'vision' of what Lewisham wants or needs and so finding ways to make amends by reinstating all the Community Centres, Libraries and parks and sports facilities, child services they've closed or will close under the austerity umbrella?
The "new homes" provided seem to be predominantly for the wealthy who want a pied-a-terre close to good transport. Who else would want to live in an ugly set of new high-rise buildings surrounded by roads? The answer is only those who are so desperate for housing that they'll take anything. Is there actually going to be any social or genuinely affordable housing from all of this? I doubt it.
Mayor Bullock will leave a fine heritage when he retires in a couple of years - not.
