wow... to see the cinebench benchmark just puts time into perspective. I had the Ryzen 1800x back in the day and that was an amazing desktop processor. But to see the Surface Laptop 4 actually outbench the 1700x in single core and be competitive in multicore against a desktop processor is just amazing. i wish the Surface Pro 8 had an AMD option! make it happen! AMD does have a powerful 15W chip that would be perfect.
I have little doubt that you'll see more AMD powered Surface's come out. There will probably be an AMD Surface Book at some point as well.
AMD makes custom Ryzen chips for Microsoft so needless to say Microsoft kind of likes them lol
The introduction video for the surface 4 showed Ori when it said optimized for gaming, so it's marketed to play lighter single player experiences like Ori, Lost Words, Little Nightmares and the numerous upcoming indies on Game Pass.
Could it do games like minecraft Java edition Or war thunder?

Microsoft should be making Xbox gaming laptops that directly compete with the likes of Alienware
That would be awesome but it would probably ruin Xbox sales lol. I much rather have a portable gaming laptop than an xbox.

Loving the Surface Laptop 4 setup so far! Haven't had too much time to mess around designing yet but GamePass and xCloud run great. Surprisingly with the PC xCloud beta it ran fantastic and the PC widget tools were crisp. I ran Horizon4, Sims4, a few smaller indies like Rain on Your Parade and Narita Boy from the cloud, my longest streaming sessions yet (normally use my Note20 w Kishi, MLB The Show is fantastic). I did notice in Horizon4 that the frames/focus on the car were pretty bad when playing off the hard drive but clear from the cloud. I was also not able to get FlightSimulator running smoothly as it couldn't process the real-time terrain and kept flashing to black, might be able to tweak the settings but I'll probably just wait to play it on SeriesX.
Overall we're loving the Surface4 with top specs. Definitely a top tier feel and build, screen colors are bright and full even without 4k, and the sound is amazing.
Also played xCloud on iPad (3yrs old) and it worked well, need to run it through some more games. It did recommend with a prompt to use the Xbox cloud gaming link instead of safari fora better experience, made a huge difference.

It didn’t run really well. If you want a sleek, thin laptop that can game and has good battery life look at the Lenovo Ideapad 5 with the mx450 in it. It runs most titles at 1080p with a really good framerate and is cheap

Hey Brad, I cannot help but notice your silence on what's going on between Microsoft and Nintendo right now. In Phil spencer's latest what I presume as an interview, he had a Nintendo switch in the background. Usually these background items mean something, so do you have any inside information you are willing to share?👀
On twitter, he mentioned that they got mad at him last time for leaking the series s. So I don't think he will be leaking or mentioning anything anytime soon.

Yo Brad, does it allow you to get the Radeon app and turn off the Vari Bright option? It's that dimming and brightening feature you mentioned in your SL3 review
You dont need the radeon app to disable it
How else? I don't wanna mess with the registry man, it voids the warranty

My Ryzen 5 4600u beats this. I am shocked to see this. After all you can get a gaming laptop for cheaper and play triple A games. Microsoft really needs to rethink its pricing points.
You're paying for the form factor and building materials. These "Ultrabooks" are always overpriced if you're just looking at specs. You're paying for the "experience" and the small form factor
It would be interesting to compare the games against te M1 MacBooks (Dying light, Black Ops 3, Fortnite, etc)

Would emulators run fine? Mostly psx2? What about games like persona 4 golden on high settings?
I had an acer swift with the same processor for a couple of weeks. It can run some games at low settings smoothly. But games like warzone it will barely run.
You should've tried Halo Master Chief Collection, specially Halo 2 Anniversary at max settings I think it could handle it

Got the Ryzen 5 8GB really just for web browsing, I do have a gaming PC already. I'm just dead curious if I could hop on games like GTAIV and Valheim every once in a while on it
Let us be honest, this is not for anyone that is serious or wants to enjoy gaming! Sad no eGPU support via Thunderbolt on the Intel versions.

Pretty sure it be fine. I'm using a shitty old Mac at the moment. And it plays but overheats a lot. So it should be fine
I'm playing hearthstone on my surface go 2 and it works great, so it probably works even better with this laptop

Do you have an antivirus software ?! When I try to run COD warfare it crashes, Activision states it due to having a antivirus software on my PC and if removed would fix the issue. Well I’m not removing it. How else can I fix this issue ?!

Putting a real GPU would increase the cost, kill the battery and make it run VERY HOT. This is meant a productivity device, not a gaming device.
