Ryzen 5 actually has 7 cores (1 for GPU) and you can get the Ryzen 7 in the 13.5” business model.
What is wrong with Microsoft? They already made the move to AMD why can’t they use better AMD cpus in these laptops. Do you happen to run geek bench and cinebench on these AMD and Intel laptops?
We don't use GPU and CPU cores together. It has a 6 core CPU and an iGPU
below is the correct statement . above comment doesn't make sense .
Surface edition Ryzen 5 processors have 6 CPU cores and 7 GPU cores .
Ryzen 5 used in other laptops have 6 CPU cores and 6 GPU cores .
After processor fabrication :
if all 8 GPU cores work it becomes a Ryzen 7
if 1 GPU core fail then it gets rebranded as a Surface edition Ryzen 5 processor.
it 2 GPU cores fail then it gets branded a Normal Ryzen 5 processor .
if more than 2 GPU cores fail then it becomes Ryzen 3.

I rather choose Intel options, its because Intel Tiger lake performs better on virtualization such as emulation also XE graphics is better than Vega on ryzen.
The 13.5" 3x2 has almost exactly the same area as the 14" 16x9. The 15" is 23.4% bigger than the 13.5", and the 15.6" 16x9 is 24.2% bigger than the 14". So if people appreciate the size differene between 14" and 15.6" at 16x9, they will appreciate the difference between 13.5" and 15" at 3x2.

Microsoft makes this choice even more difficult by only offering the Ice Blue color on Intel
With these prices and abysmal performance discrepancy in certain cases, the only thing that matters is battery life.
This is true that aspect 3:2 does give larger display area. Surface 13.5 has 10% larger display area than Dell XPS 13.4
With all honesty, the specs sound so great about the new SL4, but the sad thing is, is that people who'd wish to purchase these laptops in person such as third-party stores, could only get a limited amount of range on these laptops... such as including myself, which is a pain.

on the Microsoft website the 16gb Ryzen is no longer shown for the 13.5". Can only get he Ryzen with 8GB. If you want 16GB, have to get intel. Why have they stopped it?
The fact of the matter is that for 99% of people, all laptops be it intel, amd or arm are fast enough for most use cases. The matter of concern is good optimization and integration and for that, M1 wins hands down. The silent fanless performance, long battery life and optimized software is amazing.
Right on. Although Microsoft said they specifically worked with AMD and Intel to optimise Windows and the chips in the Surface Laptop 4.

To be far it's apple software for much part in terms of optimization of m1
i5 16gb 13.5 inch - Sandstone. If they had 32gb for the Sandstone trim I would have gotten the i7 but they only manufactured that configuration for Black Metal, which is extremely unfortunate. I'm still really happy with my purchase, coming over from Mac, the feel of this laptop is unbeatable. I would get Sandstone above all though. Recommend anyone who is considering this product to go Best Buy to try em out or where they have it for testing.
Now that you have seen tiger lake for a while now, what are your thoughts about i5 vs i7. I have seen where the i7 will throttle down a bit in smaller machines like this and will really perform like an i5 and have seen the i5 actually outperform the i7 in some cases. I got the i5 and I think I made the right choice but I like to hear your opinions. Thanks a lot!

This is a great video I have been confused for so long as what variant to buy and this video really helped me.
Been going round and round on configurations for past week. Have a M1 Mac but need a Windows machine for some specific software. Want the 3:2 aspect ratio of these machines for programming.
Am I the only one who is totally not interested in windows and x86 laptops anymore? I had the SP3. I have not seen the integration from HW and SW and pricing is definitively too high for what you actually get.
🙌🏻 This is so true man..M1 has totally changed the industry...for the ppl who are interested to buy a laptop...wait if u can for the M1X/M2 its worth it...is u cant wait just go with the AirM1 16GB if u are doing anything intense like video editing, trust me i own 8GB variant, its not slow but it uses a lot of swap. In a nutshell it uses ur SSD as a RAM and its not good for ur SSD. Else just get the 8GB u wont regret it!
@@adityams1659 I have a 16gb M1 Mac Mini. It is so worth it. I am using it as my main machine for sw development, not intense graphics works and general productivity. Never seen anything so fast in single core tasks.
@@adityams1659 have you tried switching to safari? my 16GB M1 Air used to have over 100GB daily writes. (probably would have last 5years at that phase)
switched to safari now daily writes are at ~10GB. (means it will take 30+ years to fail the SSD)
few channels pointed out that all browsers except safari writes data to the SSD by default. I tried disabling it in chrome and SSD swap writes was like ~20GB per day. eventually I started to use safari. for me its not that bad.
I haven't pushed my machine hard tho I'm a SWE student so still doing basic shit 😅 so there might be other aspects as well. what I stated above is all above is all about web browsing.

@@carlosortega8643 I’d say I’m impressed with the performance and overall feel. One thing I do not like is facial recognition in the dark is nowhere as good as Apple’s. Also if you close the laptop and come back to it later video playback sometimes lags for a moment.

Ryzen seems a better deal overall. Price Performance. People dont use adobe as much since there is affinity designer and Davinci resolve.

check first if the apps your planning to use is M1 optimized before purchasing, and if it is. than don't hassle to buy the M1.

Unless they massively cut the price after the launch, it's absurd to buy these over the M1 MacBook air. Apple is so far ahead of the competition and the price is so competitive that unless you're on a budget (which you wouldn't be looking at these) or require Windows (though I bet Rosetta can run better than native Windows), most people would be better off buying Apple.

I'm still rocking my SL1 and want to upgrade it to SL4 but I'm disappointed that they don't have metal platinum for 13.5".
Wait for SL5 when they upgrade to Alder Lake and Zen 4 and most likely have a redesign as well, probably gonna come start of 2022
Honestly I prefer the alcantara over the metal build. I've had both. The metal gets hot and you notice the temperature more. You don't notice how hot it gets with the alcantara

Which configuration is good for 3D CAD modelling and little of Animation work?
Look at the difference between single and multi core performance and find out whether CAD uses single or multi-core. Off the top of my head, I THINK it uses single core.
For CAD Software I used to use Campus Computers at my Uni They had core i5 8000 series and RX570s. Now I have my own computer at home and it has only a Ryzen 5 4560G and All CAD software run fine. Blender also Runs fine. I used the BMW Benchmark and it took 3 Minutes to render it.

M1 all the way, unless i need to do PC stuff i use a gaming rig not a laptop. The scrap cips given to pevious laptops are costing me money in Electricity bill.

Depends what you want to do with it. Remember that macs are very limited with regards to ports and you don't get a touch screen. Also take into account what programs you use.

The M1 MacBooks are great, but besides the processing power they’re a bit of a step down from my current device, the Surface Book 2. The SB2 has a better and slightly bigger screen, a superior keyboard, and a more flexible design. The only reason I’d buy, and am thinking of buying, an M1 is for FCPX and the overall value. For a thousand dollars, you get a very capable machine m that’s far cheaper than the newest SB.
