      Just FYI, conventionally speaking, computer memory refers to the memory in RAM(random-access memory), while storage refers to drives in which data is written to for long term storage without power. RAM requires constant power and loses its data without power while storage drives such as SSDs, HDDs or even DVDs can retain data without power.

      I bought one of these used for 140 US dollars with the intention of upgrading the SSD. I was worried about destroying the rubber feet. After a little google time, I found replacement rubber feet directly from Microsoft for $13.00 shipped. Problem solved.

    I got this laptop as a lottery prize from my landlord and I love that it runs far smoother than my ancient 00s lenovo, but the paltry memory made me think there's far more it could do if the right upgrades were implemented. Props to you for showing that's the case, will be holding out for a good SSD to install in the future (with a little technical help.)

    Great, informative video. Glad you were able to figure this out and help others do the same. But overall I'm disappointed by the design here by Microsoft. There is no need for it to be this complicated to upgrade storage or ram. I've upgraded these components on dozens of laptops without hassle, but even with this teardown as a guide I'm not personally comfortable attempting this fix for a family member who needs more storage for the work they do. If it was my own laptop I'd likely take the risk but for someone else who relies on their device I'd be quite hesitant to try this.

    All I'm asking is why. Why would Micerosoft need to hide the screws under the rubber pads, and why the stupid plastic clips? MS could easily just put a nice looking screw next to the rubber feet, like many other computers, and use weaker clips on the deck. No one will complain about 7 visible screws if they look nice (even MacBooks have them!) and since you already have screws holding on a metal deck, the plastic clips are completely unnecessary. I guess they gotta give you a better reason to buy their more expensive models

    Can you just put blank ssd into the laptop? Than where is window stored?

      Hey sorry I meant to respond to this quicker.
      You can either image your SSD before you make the switch (I use Macrium Reflect which has a free trial)
      Or you can install windows by making an USB boot drive

    • @innoiso
      @innoiso  2 роки тому +2

      If you preinstall Windows before booting the Go, the most important driver that you need is the Wifi driver. If you don't have it, you'll have to plug your laptop into Ethernet to connect to the internet and start downloading all of the drivers.

    • @innoiso

      The 256GB model is not EEMC, it's an SSD just like the 128GB. I haven't tested it, but I'm guessing a third party SSD would be faster

    Literally yesterday I bought another small form laptop, because I didn't find this video until today (well, UA-cam recommended it to me today).
    I need a small form laptop, and the Surface would have been great, but with the old-ish CPU, and just 8 GB RAM, and 64GB eMMc storage...I was afraid it would be too slow for what I'd use it.
    Had I known the storage is upgradable, I think this is what I would have bought.
    Can any of you guys tell me if the RAM can be upgraded?

    Pretty sure I've found more than 1 video but I've looked at so much SLGo in the last few weeks, I may have imagined it.
    You really need to use a heat mat/ pad or similar to warm things up. That way the feet will come off easier.

    • @innoiso
      @innoiso  3 роки тому +1

      I was only able to find one video with a teardown of the 8GB / 128GB model, but yeah I didn't think of a heatpad. In previous teardowns / repairs I've done I've just peeled off the rubber feet, but they haven't been this long. I usually don't break out the heat until it's really needed
