A few notes:
- I have a tendency of overusing air quotes :)
- I am out of focus for the first few minutes
- This is my perspective as a professional who gets confronted on a daily basis with desperate requests to help “get rid of” accents. I will never play into people’s fears and hype up false, misleading marketing tactics. This is my honest opinion but it is safe to say that it is a complex topic that can stirrup a lot of mixed feelings. You are allowed to your feelings & opinions. These are just mine and they will continue to evolve over time.
- Moral of the story: don’t be discouraged. There is always room for improvement for any speaker. I just don’t want you hyper fixating on *one* aspect just because other people are being ignorant towards you. Try to focus on what you can control, and the bigger picture.

I don’t normally stop to comment but what a click bait. She spends the entire video explaining that it’s ok to have an accent - doh! That’s not the question woman, I know it’s ok without you telling me it’s ok! You supposedly made a video to discuss how to change this for folks who might need to - say you’re an actor who needs to do multiple accents! No need to spend 13 min being paternalistic about it, just focus on the topic you set up to discuss!

By the video title, video description, first comment, and first few moments of the video itself - I try to make it clear that I am here to discuss the implications behind why people frantically approach me trying to get rid of their accent. I'm sorry if you felt misled as that was not my intention, but I appreciate you watching. I do have older videos that I linked towards the end that are purely focused on accent training, and if you check out my instagram or tiktok accounts, I have endless videos breaking down pronunciation of difficult sounds and words in American English. My aim was not to teach you how to get rid of your accent, but to explain my position and mindset as a coach for those who are feeling frustrated, stuck, and hard on themselves.
