i should of kept it, and put the forks, front end and shocks on the vfr as they are a direct swap, although i ended up putting Wilber's springs front and 641 rear but kept the linked brakes.
My Tahitian Blue F4i was my first big bike. Put close to 30k on her but got tired of messing with the fairings for every little maintenance item. Nice to see you putting one back on the road!
I picked up a 2005 Yamaha R6 this last summer as my 2nd bike moving up from a Ninja 250. Had to do a bunch of work to get it ride-worthy but it was a fun process. Was able to ride it for a couple months before winter showed up. It's been a decent learning curve but also an absolute BLAST! Biggest thing I had to learn was to manage the weight and seat height. Yeah I dropped it a couple times at a stop. You're so right in your points you stated with that classic motorcycle sound with the inline-4. Definitely feels super stable at speed in a lean. Can get into law-breaking speeds pretty damn quick lol. Was only able to fit in some spirited street rides but already signed up for a cornering course and a track day next year to really get my comfort peaked on this. Can't wait! Until then, some winter wrenching to be done. Thanks Spite!
I have an ‘01 F4i, white & red with the split seat. Yeah, touring capable my foot. It’s definitely a 600 supersport, first. I will also confirm that Spite is correct about the party starting at 10,000 rpm. It’s plenty quick, and I bought it primarily for track riding. It’s more capable than me. Glad you got it, Spite. It’ll be a great bike. But the lack of side fairings makes me sad. I know, it’s easier to work on, but come on, don’t let it run around without pants!
I had the F3 as my first big bike. loved it apart from the weight. F4i got the alloy frame. I actually miss it sometimes it was very daily-able compared to my current bike (big bang r1) which is not.
I have the 2000 model and absolutely love it... every time I took my girlfriend out for a ride... once we retuned home she'd say she's never coming out again... two weeks later she'd be begging me to take her out again for another ride.... can't wait for spring
Yep, I tracked my Yellow 06 F4i.. track record lap was 1:29 in 2021. I was dragging knees in the 1:50s. Front suspension held me back some m, dives bad... But at 50 to 63 years old riding this, I'm still loving this bike. Its a great Canyon carver..It's best on lonely Colorado Canyon roads. I know many. 9000 to 12000rpm at 75 to 120 mph is Buttercups sweet spot. I did get busted and pulled over 1 time in my 50 years of riding on public roads ..fully leathered at 135mph.. one stupid squid day in 2022. Cop let me off because I was 61 and didn't run. I quit canyon racing by myself after that. 12 years the gig was finally up. But it is a fun bike. I will keep her forever.
My second ever bike, and haven't had any bike before or after I enjoyed as much. Might be time to get one again, despite the fact I sold it, cause I would often ride in German Autobahn with unlimited speed, which wasn't safe for me 😅
Started with a '92 F2 recently & boy are these things fun. Its been a bit a learning curve but worth saving it from being junked. Hard to find mechanics that want to work on carbs in Miami, so I had to do trial & error to get it running. It was the best decision ever to learn how to work on your own bike. Little more tlc & fresh paint & she'll look better than showroom quality.
I loved my r6 and only street road it. Lovely 45-55mpg, reliable and comfortable when you're a 20 year old. Only road it on 1 hour to 1.5 hour trips but worked fine as a mini touring bike.
Its a good bike. Its pretty much bullet-proof. Had 2 bad accidents with it and all it got is a cracked stator cover and cracked fairings but still runs. 😂
I had a chance to ride the F4i when they were still being produced and fell in love with it. I've had the little dream in the back of my mind of adding an 06 in yellow/black to the collection. They're getting hard to come across here thou. On a side note Spite, I always enjoy the wrenching videos
Nothing beats a screaming I4 or I6. Anyone remember the Honda RC166? Redline 18k rpm. Woohoo...just music to the ears. There's a local that has a green F4i who screams through town and just sounds so glorious. Of course, screaming a 599cc is easier to do street legal than my 06 cbr1000rr but would still like a F4i in the stable some day along with a supermoto converted CRF450R or CRF450X again. I agree, newer bikes are adding way too many rider aids, technology that is taking away from the true essence of the raw riding experience and freedom. All my bikes are or have been mid 90's to mid 2000's. Can't wait to see what you do with this F4i.
As my 01 KLR started making engine rebuild noises I started looking around and found a red and white 01 F4I with like no miles... Despite previously saying I'd never own a sport bike I picked it up and almost got a ticket on the ride home they really just wanna go. Currently commuting on it until I can source replacement plastics and give it the resto it deserves.
the joy of the f4i was it was perfectly centre ballanced, very light, perfect all round. the rr although good on paper, was a lot more unconfortable for touring and commuting.
I had an f4i and sold it. I loved it for many reasons but ultimately didnt like waiting for the power delivery for street use. I loved the shape of the gas tank and how it supports your knees, helps keep your weight off the bars. Ultimately, my sv650 power delivery was hard to match compared to the f4i waiting to wake up. You HAVE TO be mindful of gear position when getting technical in twisties- if you're in too low a gear, you get on the throttle and...nothing there. Not too fun for street use.
Much agreed about middleweight inline-fours getting us arrested. I've owned a CB650F for maybe 3 years as my daily (almost 60k miles) and I finally decided to get something smaller as a supplement because it only wants to be ridden at speeds inappropriate for the streets. Riding these types of bikes are incredibly frustrating at a normal pace despite being entirely competent and sharp machines. Looking at maybe a 300 for my next daily while I set the 650 aside as a track toy/sport tourer. It's still got plenty life left, but I'm getting tired of the urgent care visits and having to replace the handlebars and plastics every year. Funny enough, I highsided off my 650 shortly before the police scooped me up.
I was seriously considering an older R6 or F4i, but their insurances were quite high for their power and predicted their peak powerband would be annoying in street riding. Went with Blackbird instead. Now I have only marginally more expensive insurance, but torgue for days.
I had a 2001 F4. Last year of carb. Wrecked it. Thing was fast. First time watching one of your videos since you left yammi. They were never advertised to me.
It's frustrating to me that it's always about "you don't need this for the street". No one even needs a motorcycle. It's a toy. Get what you want. I'll take my liter bike on the street unnecessarily hauling my giant ass around at ease vs a ninja 400 struggling to move me up a hill. Same goes for 600s. People like what they like. Not sure what sentence triggered this rant, but I'm sorry either way. Just tired of hearing anything related to "not necessary for the street" I guess.
The F4i's are just solid motorcycles, also really popular here in Europe. Looked for a 600RR when I wanted to get into riding. Then thought about the ergo's, looked around found the F4i and predecessors. Few were available for sale and saw the Hornet, Bandit's, Z750, GSR's, GSX-S, Z8 and 900 etc. Adored them instantly, and went the naked bike route. 0 regrets. Riding wise, comfort wise, ergonomics wise a really fun commuter or long trip capable motorcycles. More then content with my Z750. Little less top RPM's but more torque from mid and still a nice play area up to 11 to 12k RPMS.
I have a little mt03 as my first bike, and its ergonomics are perfect... its so easy to ride. I also have an iron 883, and I love the torque on that bike, but it doesn't handle anything as easily as the little yamaha.
@@jerichostevens2711 Nice! MT03 are really good as first bike. Also if you have the bigger engine one which is pretty much a detuned MT07 engine. Fun little rippers and being naked, flickable, easy and comfy to ride and so on. An 883 is also pretty common here and are to this day very liked still as nice cruiser style bike. Fun bikes you got there, for sure!
I like the "relaxed" ergonomics. You don't need anymore for the street and it is a bit more comfortable than the others. I owned a ninja 1000sx with relaxed ergonomics for sport touring and it was more than enough to have a ton of fun and not break your back in long rides.
I had an 2002 F4i. I got it as a project and to be my First Bike(not a good idea in hindsight) Got it all fixed up and was good to go got my MSF done and thankfully trailiered it to a parking lot to practice before going on real streets. Was super nice low speed was really great had good parking lot manners with me surprisingly but I made the mistake of wacking the throttle just a little in first gear to "see what it'll do" and the front tire lifted up on me. I about S%^# myself and decided this was a terrible idea and listed it for sale that next day. Would love to have another in the future with more seat time under me.
I Love these videos, especially the rebuild of this CB and the van, but you have to find a different mounting spot for your 360 on this particular bike. You look like you're riding a mini bike with a green screen background.
I'm sorry, I thought the uniform for riding a 600 was board shorts, a No Fear T shirt, Crocs & a helmet with a fluffy animal cover. When was sensible riding gear made an option? I love the ridiculous soundtrack of an inline 4, but with our local draconian road laws I wouldn't be able to get a 600 out of 1st gear most of the time. Luckily we have an abundance of i-4 250's that make around 45 hp at 14,500 rpm. And mine just needs the carbs balanced to get back on the road.
@@spitescorner Fortunately I have 10 days off over Christmas to tackle the problem. Unfortunately it's summer here, so I might be off riding my 3 other bikes instead.
I have the '11-'13 cbr600f and that bike really is a more sport touring oriented 600, I love it, comfortable enough for my f***d up joints but still screams to 13500 rpm ❤

im tossing the idea of my first bike right now... ive been riding dirt since i was 3 over 20 years on 2 wheels... anyways im looking at a 2000 cbr600 f4 for 2400 with 10k miles and a street triple with like 5k miles for 4k... i already hear the flood of comments coming in those are bad beginner bikes yeah yeah yeah... im 6'4 280 pounds all those baby bikes squat way to hard for a big guy like me... and the last bike i rode was a ktm 500 english kick... ive ridden a friends ninja 400... its all the same regardless of how much street riders want to gatekeep a bike is a bike... i know the basics i know how to roll on my throttles and i still fear machines ill be fine... besides ill be starting riding only to and from work in speed zones of the highest being 50 until i feel comfortable on it to acclimate to the nuances of asphalt...
I love my 636. I put 8k miles on between June and September. Didn't ride it to work, didn't use it to commute. Strictly im going for a ride miles to no where. I never get on it and experience disappointment or regret.
Spite, the closest thing I had to that thing you are on now was the Honda 599 (little Hormet?!), but I didn't own it too long because it enflamed my karpal tunnel. The engine was the same as your's but I think they de-tuned it. At the time (2013--14) I had two other bikes at the that I could ride, the '88 Hawk GT and the '01 SV 650. So, I unloaded the 599 for 31 hundred and a guy road up from Grand Rapids (I live in the U.P. of Mich) , bought it, stuffed it into a Honda Element and drove back down state. I had both the Honda and Suzuki at the same time and considered them to be very comparable bikes, except the Suzuke had 25 to 30 more horses over the Hawk gt even though they were both v-twin 650's.They both fell right into the curves with very little effort.
Im going back to a 2000 cbr600 f4 and selling my fz09. I had an f4 as a first bike its so good and practical for the street with a windshield and handles awesome. Plus it will give my girlfriend a chance to keep up with me, when I am on a "fast" bike we are no longer riding together.
Used to ride a 600. Switched to 750. Which is very same as 600 but without all 600's problems. Never ride on track. Probably becoause no race tracks in my country.
I am installing new body work, but I found a set from a company online that does fancy colors specifically for the F4i. You're not going to be able to use RR body work.
This is a great video as to why the CBR650R is the best street inline 4 sport bike out there. Theres just zero competition though so its in a class of its own.
I think the reason people stunt it over a 636 is because it has a stronger frame, subframe and front end. 636 has more power but more likely to fall apart if you drop it learning stuff. And also the throttle is way smoother than an rr, you don’t want a twitchy throttle in a wheelie 😂 Although I have 2 stunted rr’s but I’ve never wheelie’d anything else so I don’t know any better
You said "squid-iest squid bike" but it needs at the very least a dark smoke windscreen so dark you can seen nothing though it while in the pocket. Bonus point if it's mirrored and/or doesn't quite fit right.
I love the screaming inline 4 sound track... But I totally get why a 600 is kinda lame on the street... by the time you get to the juicy part of the power band you are doing blazing speeds... I think this is why 650s are so popular... gives you close to 600 super sport characteristics but with more usable power for street duty. Looking forward to a track day with this thing
stunt it out bruv, the 03/04 636 is incredibly hard to find but the f4i is great because it's bulletproof. all it needs maybe is the saggy arse fix and you can pancake them all day. 636's have a weak frame.
I like both my 98 vfr 800 and 01 gxsr 600, I won't lie though the gxsr is like a bullet and the vfr is more like a fat beginner bike, although I still have all stock suspension on both of them rn they still certainly feel powerful enough for the streets.

I had the F3 as my first big bike. loved it apart from the weight. F4i got the alloy frame. I actually miss it sometimes it was very daily-able compared to my current bike (big bang r1) which is not.
Why can't you daily it?
I own this same bike, 06 CBR f4i and I still love it. I've had it a decade, ride it like a bat outta hell and have never had any major issues.
I have the 2000 model and absolutely love it... every time I took my girlfriend out for a ride... once we retuned home she'd say she's never coming out again... two weeks later she'd be begging me to take her out again for another ride.... can't wait for spring
Loving the motion graphics on the intro. Getting that branding spot on 🔥
Yep, I tracked my Yellow 06 F4i.. track record lap was 1:29 in 2021.
My F4i was one of my favorite bikes. Absolutely a perfect sport bike.
I used to have this bike, was called the F-sport in Europe. Absolute gem of a bike
I have the f sport here in America
My second ever bike, and haven't had any bike before or after I enjoyed as much. Might be time to get one again, despite the fact I sold it, cause I would often ride in German Autobahn with unlimited speed, which wasn't safe for me 😅
Got a 06 f4i at 19k miles on new years. It has 22k miles now and let me tell you. I love it
Started with a '92 F2 recently & boy are these things fun.
I wish I got 45 MPGs lol
@@spitescorner if a 20 year old can refrain from twisting the throttle you can too 🤣
GAWD! I actually love these bikes and it's amazing how well they handle considering it's about 23 years old. They were great back then and great now!
They handle like new with a good set of tires.
I find your lack of faith in 600 supersports for the street disturbing.
I like the "mechanical sympathy" part.
I put 55,000 miles on mine sport touring. Had full Givi luggage on it including a top case.
I've got a gsr 600 and I love it, perfect for the road. It has the excitement of the small i4 paired with the usability of a naked bike
Spite, Great Video! I had the red/white/black/green F3 back in the late 90’s! I’ve forgotten how high pitch and revy the 600’s are! lol….love it ! 💪🇺🇸
3:00 Squid Mirrors? Spite, squids never look back, no regerts.
the joy of the f4i was it was perfectly centre ballanced, very light, perfect all round. the rr although good on paper, was a lot more unconfortable for touring and commuting.
I've had both bike and I promise you, the f4i will lap the sv650
It's fully road legal.
Just wait until it's fully track ready.
It's coming.
I got a 99' Cbr 600- I always said it was very comfortable but it hated going slow now I have proof for my GSXR friend
Low budget content is appropriate for a lot of us now🫤👍🏼
I was seriously considering an older R6 or F4i, but their insurances were quite high for their power and predicted their peak powerband would be annoying in street riding.
Went with Blackbird instead. Now I have only marginally more expensive insurance, but torgue for days.
I have a 07 GSXR 600 that I love. She's for the track, but I keep the lights on her just for the ocasional squid moments we all need.
Honestly those mirrors are less vibey than some OEM ones. Not bad.
Great video! Is that/would that normally be Lake Travis in the background at the beginning? Sad...
Yeah it's more like Travis Pond now. Guess that's what happens when you have record braking droughts and scorching temperatures for years on end.
i daily a 2004 600f it's a fun bike and it rips it's a city bike !!!!!!!
Yessss I love just goofin around spite
Here's to just goofin around! Love ya brother! Merry Christmas Everyone!
I have a 98 VFR800. As a second bike. Love it. The v4 power cuts in earlier
Damn good job cleaning the ol f4i up spite, seriously such a beautiful bike and you brought her back to her former glory
Just wait. I've got a surprise in the mail for this bike!
Ooo digging the new intro!
It's just nice to watch the video of you riding down the road.
Think I’ll stick with my ‘02 FZ1, love the midrange grunt. Lighter weight does sound good though+center stand.
My first sport bike was an F3. I can't wait to finish this video
I Love these videos, especially the rebuild of this CB and the van, but you have to find a different mounting spot for your 360 on this particular bike. You look like you're riding a mini bike with a green screen background.
I got a Hornet 599. Great road bike but I've never compared to CBR600... Gotta wind it out a bit but it's fine at lower RPMs.
It "just" needs the carbs balanced... Yikes. Syncing carbs is a nightmare.
syncing carbs is the easies part of doing carbs,it can be done in 15 minutes on an inline 4
@@spitescorner Fortunately I have 10 days off over Christmas to tackle the problem. Unfortunately it's summer here, so I might be off riding my 3 other bikes instead.
Just got one a few weeks ago got a new tire getting a new ape cam chain tensioner gonna be a monster in the swervies
I have the '11-'13 cbr600f and that bike really is a more sport touring oriented 600, I love it, comfortable enough for my f***d up joints but still screams to 13500 rpm ❤
I’m looking fo my first track bike. Can you still find parts for that thing?
Doesn't the RR has _shorter service intervals_ in comparison to the F4i?
By the way, how similar is the F4i in comparison to the CB600F Hornet?
I love mine it for town use an back roads n goes great aint let me dwn since i boight it i had to clean carb i have a r1 01but prefer the 600 for the handling n its nippy
N there's 27 kmp in the difference if the r1 n cbr6
Smile, Sweet, Sister, Sadistic...
SQUIDMISSLE!
im tossing the idea of my first bike right now... ive been riding dirt since i was 3 over 20 years on 2 wheels... anyways im looking at a 2000 cbr600 f4 for 2400 with 10k miles and a street triple with like 5k miles for 4k... i already hear the flood of comments coming in those are bad beginner bikes yeah yeah yeah... im 6'4 280 pounds all those baby bikes squat way to hard for a big guy like me... and the last bike i rode was a ktm 500 english kick... ive ridden a friends ninja 400... its all the same regardless of how much street riders want to gatekeep a bike is a bike... i know the basics i know how to roll on my throttles and i still fear machines ill be fine... besides ill be starting riding only to and from work in speed zones of the highest being 50 until i feel comfortable on it to acclimate to the nuances of asphalt...
I had both the Honda and Suzuki at the same time and considered them to be very comparable bikes, except the Suzuke had 25 to 30 more horses over the Hawk gt even though they were both v-twin 650's.They both fell right into the curves with very little effort.
where did you get those mirrors man ! need them for my 03 F4i
how still do you like this bike ?
i found one in my country for RM 17000 approximate to $ 3600 USD . is ok ?
Hey mate do you have a link for those adjustable fork caps by any chance?
Put little over 40,000 street miles on a 2007 CBR600RR. Only miles on a racetrack were from taking it to the local drag strip a few times.
What camera and chin mount are you using?
Im going back to a 2000 cbr600 f4 and selling my fz09. I had an f4 as a first bike its so good and practical for the street with a windshield and handles awesome. Plus it will give my girlfriend a chance to keep up with me, when I am on a "fast" bike we are no longer riding together.
Used to ride a 600. Switched to 750. Which is very same as 600 but without all 600's problems. Never ride on track. Probably becoause no race tracks in my country.
Just curious, are you going to install a track bodywork set? Can you use a set from the CBR600RR?
I am installing new body work, but I found a set from a company online that does fancy colors specifically for the F4i. You're not going to be able to use RR body work.
@@spitescorner I found that Hot Bodies makes a complete set of bodywork for the F4i… I use Hotbodies on my CBR250R race motorcycle
Will you be doing a long term review of this bike? I'd love to see it. I'm thinking of selling my mt07 and making this my forever bike
I love my 06 f4i great bike and jts great on the twisties
I wanna see the upgrade videos!
I own an 05 f4i stunt bike one of the best purchases iv don in a loong loong time
also, please link those $30 Risotto replica mirrors... please and thank you.
This is a great video as to why the CBR650R is the best street inline 4 sport bike out there. Theres just zero competition though so its in a class of its own.
600rr u mean
I think the reason people stunt it over a 636 is because it has a stronger frame, subframe and front end. 636 has more power but more likely to fall apart if you drop it learning stuff. And also the throttle is way smoother than an rr, you don’t want a twitchy throttle in a wheelie 😂
Although I have 2 stunted rr’s but I’ve never wheelie’d anything else so I don’t know any better
Wish you would talk about the Harley Davidson Fatboy comparison the twin and the new m8 I'd like to know what you think of it
Me and you are about the same size I believe and I was wondering how it rides for a taller guy?
Hey Spite´s Corner. May i ask how tall you are?
My son has the same Amazon mirrors on his Cbr 500r lol
You said "squid-iest squid bike" but it needs at the very least a dark smoke windscreen so dark you can seen nothing though it while in the pocket. Bonus point if it's mirrored and/or doesn't quite fit right.
Lol you just described the one I took off the bike. I would've put it back on but the tabs broke when it came off.
my poor back hurts just looking at a supersport
Me too, that's why I like nakeds! I'm still looking forward to watching this.
It's not a supersport, but a sports touring bike.
It's a previous generation of CBR650F/R.
@@Fearless154 Very cool, thanks.
@@Fearless154 it seems to sit like one. still crouched over
@@SummitCoyote
It is because spite is a big guy, but the bike sits pretty upright, like the R3, Ninja 400, rather than the R6 and ZX6.
These bikes are rad, super underrated machines!
He said their USELESS but that man still having the time of his life lol 😂
Two things can be true. A bike can be impractical and also fun to ride.
Sick mirrors man
stunt it out bruv, the 03/04 636 is incredibly hard to find but the f4i is great because it's bulletproof. all it needs maybe is the saggy arse fix and you can pancake them all day.
I have a 03 vfr and a 125cc town bike, the scooter is the mule and the vfr is the thoroughbred
