- (2017) Lawrence Taylor, widely regarded as one of the greatest defensive players in the history of American football, had a remarkable career that revolutionized the linebacker position and left an indelible impact on the sport.
Taylor's football journey began at the University of North Carolina, where he played college football from 1977 to 1980. He quickly emerged as a dominant force on the field, earning consensus All-American honors and capturing the attention of NFL scouts with his exceptional speed, strength, and instinctual play.
In the 1981 NFL Draft, the New York Giants selected Lawrence Taylor with the second overall pick, a decision that would forever alter the franchise's fortunes. Taylor's impact was immediate and immense. As a rookie, he earned the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award and helped transform the Giants' defense into one of the league's most feared units.
Taylor's playing style was characterized by his relentless pursuit of the quarterback and his uncanny ability to disrupt offensive game plans. Blessed with a combination of speed, power, and agility rarely seen in a linebacker, he wreaked havoc on opposing offenses, accumulating sacks, forced fumbles, and tackles for loss. His disruptive presence on the field forced offenses to account for him on every play, fundamentally changing the way the game was played.
Throughout his 13-year career (1981-1993), all of which he spent with the New York Giants, Taylor was a 10-time Pro Bowler and a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year. He helped lead the Giants to two Super Bowl victories, in 1986 and 1990, and was named the Super Bowl MVP in 1987. Taylor's impact extended beyond the accolades, as his relentless pursuit of excellence inspired a generation of football players and redefined the linebacker position.
Lawrence Taylor's impact on the sport cannot be overstated. He elevated the linebacker position to new heights, revolutionizing defensive strategies and setting a standard of excellence that few have matched. His combination of skill, athleticism, and sheer dominance make him one of the most influential and memorable players in NFL history.
Why do you have to lowball him like that, he is the GOAT... the greatest football player of all time irrespective of position.

What a great interview
LT is the GOAT and the true Cheetah. He was so fast and covered so much ground, whether going east-west or north-south. Most of the plays he’s in the backfield before the QB could setup to throw a pass.
There aren't many players thar can take on three blockers AND make the tackle. As a matter of fact there is only one.
I know that this is a very old video but man I love both of these guys!!!
Much love and respect to you both!!!
