I think when your product is better its not to hard to sell it. A modern day example is Elon musk, tesla cars are simply better then the competition, and he just tells people this with some enthusiasm and a genuine excitement about his products.
@hotech man He was super technical... he never was professional programmer, but dammit he had deep knowledge and questions so good that employees found it difficult too
What Steve Jobs is an absolute genius with is understanding what the customer wants and understanding the importance of simplicity with his products. At this time in 2004, there were companies that were more technologically sophisticated than Apple, but they didn't have the vision that Jobs provided in applying that technology to provide a simple customer experience. Brilliant man.
Honestly, I can never get enough of Steve. He's such a brilliant man. Both he and Woz are such stars! I miss him so much.. I vividly remember crying when I heard the news of his passing (I was in elementary school).
If you think about it, this is about the time jobs gave ''the order'' to make a touchscreen for a pad.... then saw it and knew instantly it was a phone he had to make first....
Actually that’s not true. He wanted the touchscreen ipad, but the iPhone was very much iPod-like with its click wheel for a long time. That was the original long lasting concept even when the touch screen table was a thing. That was Tony Fadell’s idea and he was the head of that division. Scott Forstall was the new underdog and came up with the idea to shrink the touch screen down to a phone. Jobs pit the two teams against eachother but thought Fadell would come out on top but Scott Forstall surprised everybody and Jobs then saw how the touchscreen can be applied to the phone. Jobs is great but people give him the credits for everything.
"Have to wait and see"...if I recall correctly, the iPhone began initial development in 2001 and by 2004 it would have made some significant progress. When he said "Have to wait and see", there's a good chance this is what came to his mind when asked about what other electronic devices Apple had planned in the future.
The real genius of the man is simply this: 2004 was the time when they started working on the iPhone and he's sitting there saying -- in order to do this and that, we'd need to get into the phone business -- there's no way you can get your music library on a smart phone, nobody wants to listen to music on a phone, nobody wants to watch video, etc....knowing all the time they were working on just that. BRILLIANT.
“more and more consumer product’s core is software” - clear insight. Asian companies are not making software they are making hardware. Sansung is, Sony is and Huawei also is.
This men was super intelligent. Would be amazing to take advantage of advanced technology intelligence , be creative and build him a replica and provide him with the Nobel price. Not that he needs it but is is great to recognize what this great men had done for the world! 🙏 technical save us from WWIII.
I miss the excitement every year he got up on stage to announce the new iPhone. Before we got all these design and spec leaks. It’s ridiculous I just got my iPhone 13 pro, and there are rumors about the 14. I don’t even click on those links or videos. I wanna be kept in the dark until the keynote. I miss the old days.
its amazing how fast this man aged at the last 10 years..i was watching a clip from 2003 and its like night and day..i think he already got cancer here
Also, DVD burners didn't do anything to hurt Hollywood, it has been torrenting using the bandwidth that Jobs didn't foresee. I guess he is human after all :)
not really. Just recently during last couple years. You must be like 21 years old or something. Obviously didnt live through the horrors of the ethernet era!
amazing how things have changed, internet is fast, Apple made a phone, iCloud is alive and well as a service where things could be backed up in the cloud, everyone has 1,000 or more photos and songs on their phones. WOW.
It's 20 years ago, but Jobs didn't see this coming. Although Apple had iTools for on-line storage, the direct connection from device to Cloud was something they just didn't think.
And what a release it was. There are comments thrown about discussing whether or not he was the smartest guy in the room. I say "who cares" because he's the only person in the room I want to meet and learn from.
Even after all this time. His words make you want to buy Apple, even if Apple isn't like it used to be after Steve's passing. His words transcend time, and makes you believe Apple is a great product.
at 33:31..."aren't you headed for real trouble...you can't possibly believe that Microsoft will have no impact" (referring to digital music players) ...If you have watched enough D conferences you see how wrong Walt was on a lot of predictions
Microsoft had tons of impact in the music player market. They were the main reason iPods got so affordable. Before the Zune iPods sold for $400+, after the Zune the iPod Classic was quickly reduced in price to $350, $300, and eventually to $249 where it was until it was discontinued.
RoastBeefSandwich He said “aren’t you headed for real trouble”. I wouldn’t say Apple experienced “real trouble” over the next decade as they passed Microsoft in market cap and became a trillion dollar company. As for reduced pricing, if you listen to Jobs and apply any critical thinking, he states Apple was entering lower markets to own them, as they were not being served by these cheap players...ie Microsoft Zune
Steve Jobs saying he's not interested in working behind the scenes to develop something for the cellphone market and wouldn't be very good at it is the most hilarious troll in the history of trolls lmfaoooo. Little did everybody know.
The PC/Mac is still and will be for some time the digital hub. I have several computers, iphones and an ipad as well as two HD TVs and DVRs. They are all connected for the most part as none other than the digital hub. He was right and continues to be.
He didn't say that. Also, this was 2004, the phone idea came only after Jobs' team showed him the touch-screen tech they were working on for the iPad. When Jobs saw that he put the tablet aside and took on the iPhone project.
At 40:40 with Larry: You have to appreciate the wit of the audience feedback on the iPod and the "single digit" impact, very smart and very appreciative for "serving the consumer." Yes, it feels good.

This is like watching a conversation between a 4 year old (interviewer) and a (very smart) adult (Jobs), the adult smiles politely while getting basic questions and has to repeat their answer over and over because the other person just doesn't get it. How many times does buddy have to ask him about getting one or two percent more market share and Jobs replies 10 different times in 10 different ways that specific metric is missing the point of what they are doing. Even now that they are approaching 3 trillion in market cap their market share in PCs is still only high single digits.
48:40 Actually no, there was a huge pirate scene involving VCD (Video CD in MPEG1 format, typically 352x288 resolution) over ED2K network, which is, compression artifacts considered, actually even lower quality than VHS...

Steve was a guest at this event and somehow was able to turn it into his own mini product keynote that still excites 19yr later. Legend.
How does Steve present a product so well 15 years ago that it makes me excited and want to buy one today...
Andrew Flores Indeed! I just watched a video of him presenting in 1980, and it makes me want to go get an Apple II.
He is not a sales man! But he was a guy who loved and understood his products.. he didn’t just sell things he helped create them :)
Because he is speaking with true passion.

About 3 weeks after this, Jobs was to undergo surgery for his pancreatic cancer. But here he was presenting like a gangsta.
The hardest part was that Jobs has spent years in pain after that, even during interviews.

Yeaah.. Keep grooving.
These people cant help but always ask "yeah MS kinda sucks but um arnt you worried about them?" His questions miss the point so many times.

The Apple TV does this now and it even does what they were talking about, stream video and audio from your phone or computer to tv
